Production of Renewable p-Xylene from 2,5-Dimethylfuran and Ethylene over MWW Zeolite Catalysts

Xinqiang Feng,Xiangcheng Li,Xiao Han,Hongyu Qu,Chuang Liu,Weimin Yang,Zhendong Wang

The production of biobased p-xylene (PX) from 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) and ethylene has gained more and more attention from the aspects of both the environmentally friendly route and practical application. Despite the catalytic activity of the reported catalysts, the design and synthesis of new zeolite-based catalysts with strong durability are extremely desirable but still remain a significant challenge. Herein, we report MWW-type zeolite as highly efficient catalysts for PX production. The lamellar structure and external hemicavities endow MWW zeolite with a favorable mass transfer performance. Al-MWW synthesized with the H3BO3 additive exhibits a remarkably higher PX selectivity than conventional MCM-22 due to its lower Brønsted/Lewis ratio of 2.0 and a less strong Brønsted acid proportion of 53%. The incorporation of heteroatoms into the zeolite can further regulate the Brønsted/Lewis acidity, and Ga/Al-MWW zeolite with a B/L ratio of 1.0 and the least strong Brønsted acid proportion of 43% was found to be the most efficient catalyst (PX selectivity of 80.3%). This work pushes ahead the knowledge of MWW-type zeolite catalysts for PX production, which would also be constructive for the development of new zeolite catalysts.

Interpenetrating Nanofibrous Composite Membranes for Removal and Reutilization of P (V) Ions from Wastewater

Guibin You,Hongyang Ma,Benjamin S. Hsiao

Elevated phosphorus levels in wastewater created significant environmental concerns, including the degradation of surrounding soil structure, inhibition of plant growth, and potential threats to human health. To address this issue, a self-standing nanofibrous composite membrane based on PA-66/PVA-15%La(OH)3was fabricated via electrospinning, followed by glutaraldehyde (GA) crosslinking and alkali hydrolysis to create an interpenetrating structure, where PA-66 provided the overall mechanical strength of the membrane, while La served as a functional component for the adsorption of phosphate. The chemical composition, surface morphology, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of the resulting membranes were characterized using ATR-FTIR, SEM, TGA, and tensile testing, respectively. Furthermore, the adsorption performance of the membranes was evaluated systematically through static and dynamic adsorption. The Langmuir isotherm model yielded a theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 21.39 mg/g for phosphate ions. Notably, over 96% of this capacity was retained even in the presence of interfering ions. Moreover, dynamic adsorption experiments demonstrated that the membrane can deal with 1.74 L of phosphate-containing wastewater at a low flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and 1.46 L at a high flow rate of 2.0 mL/min, respectively, while consistently maintaining a phosphate removal efficiency exceeding 90%. A controlled release of phosphate ions from a phosphate-adsorbed membrane was successfully demonstrated using Mougeotia cultivation, implying the potential for phosphorus resource recovery.

P-type doping strategy for hole-transport polymer in blue perovskite light-emitting diodes

Jian Chen,Yifan Wang,Jiajia Gao,Jialiang Tian,Yuelong Ma,Wei Shen,Kun Cao,Yingying Fu,Lihui Liu,Shu-Fen Chen

The inferior hole injection efficiency in blue perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), caused by the large hole injection barrier and low hole mobility of conventional hole transport layers (HTLs), remains a critical limitation to achieving higher external quantum efficiency (EQE) and device stability. To address this challenge, we propose a rational interfacial engineering strategy employing p-type molecular doping to optimize device performance. By incorporating 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7',8,8'-tetracyanodimethyl-p-benzoquinone (F4TCNQ) as a dopant in the poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-co-N-(4-butylphenyl)diphenylamine) (TFB) HTL, we significantly enhance hole mobility from 3.96×10⁻⁶ to 1.13×10⁻⁴ cm²/(V·s) and adjust the highest occupied molecular orbital energy level from -5.40 to -5.56 eV, facilitating efficient hole carrier injection and transport. Additionally, perovskite films deposited on the doped HTL exhibit improved crystallinity and a reduced defect density from 3.47×10¹⁸ to 3.18×10¹⁷ cm⁻³. Owing to these synergistic improvements, the optimized blue PeLEDs achieve a maximum EQE of 4.57% with an emission peak at 484 nm, representing a 4.02-fold enhancement over the pristine device. This work highlights the effectiveness of molecular doping in tailoring interfacial properties and balancing charge transport for high-performance blue PeLEDs.

Removal of p-Nitrophenol in high-salinity wastewater by chlorine-mediated electrochemical advanced oxidation

Tangrui Hou,Yujun Zhou,Yang Zhao,Jiansheng Li,Lixiang Zhou

Chlorine-mediated electrochemical advanced oxidation (EAO-Cl) process, which converted Cl - into highly oxidizing active chlorine species under electricity, exhibits exceptional performance in wastewater pollutants removal. In this study, degradation of p -Nitrophenol (PNP) through EAO-Cl was investigated with RuO 2 /Ti foam as anode and Ti foam as cathode. Under high salinity (342 mM NaCl) condition, 95.4 % of PNP with initial concentration of 20 mg/L was removed within 120 min. The reaction kinetics constant was 0.0265 min −1 , which increased nearly 14 times compared to that of in low salinity (25 mM NaCl). ESR and quenching experiments were employed to identify the in-situ generated reactive chlorine species and evaluate their relative contributions to the degradation process. It was found that chlorine radicals (·Cl) was the dominant oxidants and contributed 60.0 % to PNP degradation. The reaction mechanisms and PNP degradation pathways mediated by chlorine species were further elucidated. Long-term continuous reactor operation revealed that PNP was near-completely removed in single-pass mode with energy consumption of 5.22 kWh/m 3 . This study proposed a novel “waste to treat waste” approach for contaminant removal in high-salinity wastewater by in situ conversion of unwanted chloride ions into useful reactive chlorine species, simultaneously enabling pollutant degradation and resource utilization from inherent wastewater salinity.

Regeneration of NAD(P)H and its Analogues by Photocatalysis with Ionized Carbon Nitride

Zaixiang Xu,Fengcang Zhou,Hanchi Chen,Jianguo Wang

The regeneration of NAD(P)H and its analogues is crucial for biocatalytic processes. However, despite the efficiency of enzymatic catalysis in regenerating NAD(P)H, the sustainability of enzymes is often compromised, particularly under extreme catalytic conditions. Moreover, artificial cofactors may present advantages in certain reactions due to their stability and versatility, yet the substrate specificity of enzymes poses significant challenges to their regeneration through the enzymatic method. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a highly stable regeneration method that can be adapted to both natural and artificial cofactors. In this work, employing potassium-ion-doped carbon nitride (ionCN-0.2) as a catalyst not only achieves high-efficiency photocatalytic regeneration of NAD(P)H, comparable to that of glucose dehydrogenase (GDH), but also a remarkable ability to regenerate nicotinamide analogues. This enhanced performance stems from the tunable negative ζ-potential, which effectively adsorbs the positively charged [Cp*Rh(bpy)H2O]2+ mediator, resulting in enhanced regeneration kinetics of the nicotinamide moiety. The catalyst demonstrates superior performance compared to the reported systems; the optimal regeneration rate reaches 0.55 mmol L–1 gcat–1 min–1 and approaches enzymatic regeneration efficiency. Expanding the reaction conditions to a wider temperature and pH range also confirms the effectiveness and sufficient stability of this photocatalytic system, offering a promising strategy for stable cofactor regeneration in biocatalytic processes.

P-selectin-targeted Polyguluronate sulfate-copper peroxide Nanomicelles for Chemodynamic therapy of breast Cancer

Dingfu Wang,Xiaolei Qiu,Lihua Hao,Zirui Fan,Shixin Wang,Chunxia Li

The exploration of efficient and safe chemodynamic therapy (CDT)-based cancer treatment is expected but still faces challenges. Herein, a kind of multifunctional nanomicelles was constructed for CDT, combined with biocompatible polysaccharides as nanocarriers, pH responsiveness and active targeting of P-selectin overexpressed tumors. The P-selectin-targeted ligand, polyguluronate sulfate (PGS), complexed with copper peroxide to form PGS-Cu nanomicelles by electrostatic interactions. Under acidic conditions, PGS-Cu nanomicelles released copper ions with H 2 O 2 and were able to produce •OH by Fenton-like reaction. In vitro data demonstrated PGS-Cu nanomicelles had high selectivity targeting P-selectin over-expressed cancer cells and induced cell death via CDT. In vivo evaluation showed PGS-Cu nanomicelles were enriched in tumor tissues and significantly inhibited tumor growth. This study identified that PGS-Cu nanomicelles could be a highly effective strategy for CDT cancer treatment.

Self-Powered UV Photodetector Construction of the P(EDOS-TTh) Copolymer-Modified ZnO Nanoarray

Aygul Kadir,Tursun Abdiryim,Xiong Liu,Ruxangul Jamal,Yaolong Zhang

To solve the problem that zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs)-based self-powered ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors cannot obtain both higher responsiveness and shorter response time, P(EDOS-TTh) was prepared using 3,4-ethylenedioxyselenphene (EDOS) and terthiophene (TTh) as copolymers, which modify the ZnO NRs surface, and the ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) P-N junction self-powered UV device is assembled. The effect of the number of electrochemical polymerization cycles on the UV photodetection performance of ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) P-N heterojunction was studied by adjusting the number of electrochemical polymerization cycles at the monomer molar ratio of 1:1. Benefiting from the enhanced built-in electric field of the ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) interface, balancing photogenerated carriers, and charge separation and transport. The results show that the contact between N-type ZnO NRs and P-type P(EDOS-TTh) is best when the number of polymerization cycles is 3, due to the fact that EDOS-TTh and ZnO NRs form excellent P-N heterojunctions with strong internal electric fields, and the devices show good pyroelectric effect and UV photodetection performance. Under 0 V bias and 0.32 mW/cm2UV irradiation, the responsivity (R) of ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) reaches 3.31 mA/W, the detectivity (D*) is 7.25 × 1010Jones, and the response time is significantly shortened. The rise time is 0.086 s, which exhibited excellent photoelectric properties and stability. UV photodetection performance with high sensitivity and fast response time is achieved.

Dual-channel sensing system for p-nitrophenol based on Rhodamine 6G-Sulfur quantum dots

Feng Zhang,Han Lv,Xuanyi Wang,Li Wang,Yanli Wei

Background Based on the biocompatibility and excellent photoluminescence, sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) have been applied to detect metal ions, lactate dehydrogenase, tartrazine and other compounds. But most of the reported sensing SQDs have a single emission, which is greatly affected by external conditions such as sensing environment, photobleaching, and other factors, and then decreasing the accuracy of sensing system, especially for the sensing in real samples. This often requires more accurate and reliable ratio fluorescent detection to overcome these drawbacks based on its self-correction to environmental interference. (86 words). Results Herein, Rhodamine 6G modified SQDs (Rho-6G-SQDs) with dual emission at 414 nm and 516 nm were synthesized, which are independent on the excitation wavelength and possess great stability. The emission of Rho-6G-SQDs at 414 nm can be significantly quenched by p -nitrophenol through the static quenching and photoinduced electron transfer, along with a visible color change of solution from blue to green under ultraviolet light. Based on this, a dual-channel sensing system was developed for the ratio fluorescent and colorimetric sensing of p -nitrophenol. The system has a rapid fluorescence response towards p -nitrophenol in the linear range of 0.117–20.0 μM and LOD as 35.6 nM (3σ/k) and colorimetric sensing with the linear correlation up to 200 μM and LOD of 9.90 nM (3σ/k). The sensing application for p -nitrophenol in sewage water sample achieved the spiked recovery from 99.3 % to 110 %. (138 words). Significance This is the first attempt to prepare fluorescent SQDs using small organic dye molecules as passivators instead of polymers. The developed dual-channel sensing system based on Rho-6G-SQDs provides great convenience for more accurate and effective p -nitrophenol detection in real water samples at low concentrations. Poly(p-phenylenediamine)-Doped Reactive Nanofiber Membrane for Self-Enhanced Solar-Driven Interfacial Evaporation

Jiulong Zhao,Guipeng Dong,Dingyuan Xue,Xufeng Yu,Chunhui Du,Guoqing Zhang

An efficient solar evaporation system with a nanofiber membrane as carrier and poly(p-phenylenediamine) (PPPD) as a photothermal agent was fabricated, and an incredible self-enhancement effect was discovered during the water evaporation process. The PPPD nanoparticles are first synthesized in situ in the spinning solution, followed by the formation of photothermal nanofiber membranes (PTNFMs) with reactive amino-imine groups through electrospinning technology. Under one sun intensity, the membrane evaporator shows a photothermal conversion efficiency of 91.2% and achieves a water evaporation rate of 1.77 kg·m–2·h–1. During continuous operation, the photothermal performance of the PTNFM is progressively enhanced with the evaporation rate increasing up to 1.91 kg·m–2·h–1, indicating an apparent self-enhancement effect. Particularly, a photothermal differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was introduced to precisely measure the photothermal conversion energy of the membranes, revealing that the PTNFM is improved by 1.3 times in photothermal conversion efficiency after six consecutive days of use. Contrary to those conventional membranes, which are prone to fouling and experience a decline in performance due to salt deposit in desalination processes, this system demonstrates a self-reinforcing performance. Furthermore, the research uncovers the enhancement mechanism of the present system in the photothermal process based on the interaction between salt ions and PPPD.

P-N heterojunction to boost photoelectrochemical H2 evolution of CdS/AgVO3 nanorod arrays photoanode

Hong Tian,Yumin Li,Qingping Dai,Shunlang Wei,Zhibin Qiu,Wenzhong Wang

Cadmium sulfide (CdS), as a potential photoelectrochemical (PEC) photoanode candidate, generally exhibits unsatisfactory hydrogen generation because of the serious recombination of charge carriers and photocorrosion. In this work, a feasible p-n heterostructure CdS/AgVO 3 nanorod arrays (NRAs) photoanode was fabricated by modifying n-type CdS nanorod arrays with p-type AgVO 3 nanoparticles for enhancing PEC hydrogen evolution property of CdS NRAs photoanode. In this p-n heterostructure CdS/AgVO 3 nanorod arrays photoanode, AgVO 3 with narrower band gap not only distinctly heightens the visible light absorption ability of CdS, but also significantly integrates with CdS to establish charge transfer path at CdS and AgVO 3 interface. The built-in electric field of the p-n junction improves the separation and transfer efficiency of photogenerated electrons (e − ) and holes (h + ). The CdS/AgVO 3 NRAs photoanode achieves an evident hydrogen evolution rate of 165.05 μmol cm −2  h −1 , higher than that of bare CdS (121.85 μmol cm −2  h −1 ) NRAs photoanode. This work offers an effective scheme to fabricate photoanode for efficiently turning the solar energy into a green and clean energy.

N-Type Surface Design for p-Type CZTSSe Thin Film to Attain High Efficiency

Yali Sun,Pengfei Qiu,Wei Yu,Jianjun Li,Hongling Guo,Li Wu,Hao Luo,Rutao Meng,Yi Zhang,Shengzhong (Frank) Liu

As a low-cost substitute that uses no expensive rare-earth elements for the high-efficiency Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se) 2 solar cell, the Cu 2 ZnSn(S,Se) 4 (CZTSSe) solar cell has borrowed optimization strategies used for its predecessor to improve its device performance, including a profiled band gap and surface inversion. Indeed, there have been few reports of constructing CZTSSe absorber layers with surface inversion to improve efficiency. Here, a strategy that designs the CZTSSe absorber to attain surface modification by using n-type Ag 2 ZnSnS 4 is demonstrated. It has been discovered that Ag plays two major roles in the kesterite thin film devices: surface inversion and front gradient distribution. It has not only an excellent carrier transport effect and reduced probability of electron-hole recombination but also results in increased carrier separation by increasing the width of the depletion region, leading to much improved V OC and J SC . Finally, a champion CZTSSe solar cell renders efficiency as high as 12.55%, one of the highest for its type, with the open-circuit voltage deficit reduced to as low as 0.306 V (63.2% Shockley-Queisser limit). The band engineering for surface modification of the absorber and high efficiency achieved here shine a new light on the future of the CZTSSe solar cell.

Hierarchical Precision Nanoplatform for Synergistic Radio-Immunotherapy in Glioblastoma via Controllable P-Selectin Targeting

Caiting Meng,Chenyang Qiao,Qian Hao,Jiahong Shi,Chunju Lou,Jiaqi Song,Leyan Wang,Jinfan Yang,Xiaobin Ma,Huafeng Kang,Hao Wu,Zhengquan Yu,Shuaijun Li

The combination of radiotherapy and immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy has demonstrated considerable efficacy in oncological treatment. However, the clinical PD-L1 antibody (anti-PD-L1) for glioblastoma (GBM) imprecisely accumulated in intracranial radiotherapy target and is often compromised by the formidable blood-brain barrier (BBB). To address these challenges, the study innovatively engineers a hierarchical precision delivery nanoplatform (FB-aPD-L1). This nanoplatform leverages sulfated fucoidan, which exhibited targeted affinity for P-selectin, an adhesion molecule expressed with spatiotemporally restricted specificity in response to radiotherapy. Following precise capture FB-aPD-L1 and crossing BBB, there is ultrasensitive release of BPA 4 -aPD-L1 and fucoidan in the tumor microenvironment. The targeted conjugation of 5-borono-2-pyridinecarboxylic acid (BPA) and sialic acid (SA) augmented tumor-specific targeting and retention of anti-PD-L1, while fucoidan reprogrammed the immune microenvironment, thereby synergizing with the anti-PD-L1 to increase CD8 + T cell infiltration and enhance radio-immunotherapy efficacy. This work exemplifies a novel paradigm for brain-targeted precise drug delivery.
