In this paper, UiO-66 nanoparticles were synthesized through the hydrothermal synthesis technique. Subsequently, a series of metal-organic framework/polyvinylidene fluoride (MOF/PVDF) composite films were produced via a solution-casting approach. The dielectric properties of UiO-66/PVDF (U/P) composite are improved with the addition of UiO-66. The dielectric constant ( ɛ r ) of 20 wt% U/P composite film at 10 2 Hz is 11.20, 1.44 times that of pure PVDF film ( ɛ r = 7.78). However, the breakdown strength ( E b ) was only 95 kV mm −1 . To solve the problem of sharp decline in E b , TiO 2 with a wide band gap was introduced to form an insulating layer on the surface of UiO-66. This reduces the difference in electrical properties between the filler and PVDF, hinders the formation of the conductive path within the composite, reduces leakage current, and increases E b . Compared with the U/P composite, the ɛ r and E b of TiO 2 @UiO-66/PVDF (T@U/P) composite film are increased, and the dielectric loss (tan δ ) and leakage current density ( J ) are decreased. The energy storage density ( U e ) of 10 wt% T@U/P composite film is 4.51 J cm −3 and the charge and discharge efficiency ( η ) is 84.61% at 150 kV mm −1 . These results indicate that the dielectric properties of UiO-66 can be significantly enhanced by using titanium dioxide as an insulating layer. Highlights By introducing UiO-66, the ɛ r of PVDF material is improved. Modifying UiO-66 with TiO 2 can improve its breakdown strength significantly. The U e of the T@U/P-10 composite modified with UiO-66 is 4.51 J cm −3 .

The implantation of covered stents has significantly contributed much to the rescue treatment of coronary artery perforation (CAP). The ability to achieve rapid hemostasis in cases of severe coronary artery perforation using covered stents alone has so far been elusive. Here, we investigate a Janus composite covered stent for rapid hemostasis in CAP. The covered stent has the dual functions of sealing perforation and rapid hemostasis, which is suitable for the rescue of CAP. This achievement is realized by assembling the tough polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane and the drug-loaded hemostatic coating, thereby amalgamating their distinct functionalities. The PVDF membrane served as a physical shield that prevented blood leakage and blocked procoagulant drugs from forming the thrombus in the vessel. Meanwhile, the drug-loaded hemostatic coating, when in contact with the perforation area, swiftly procoagulant. The in vitro cytocompatibility and coagulation property tests demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and hemostatic performance of the Janus composite covered stent. The approach is applicable across almost all sizes of common bare stents in clinical, which has great potential for the rescue of CAP.

The photocatalytic membrane systems show great potential for water purification and wastewater treatment with efficient energy utilization. Herein, we develop a synergistic photocatalytic-photothermal route, based on Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT composite immobilized in PVDF membrane, for effective water permeability and reutilization property. Novel Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT/PVDF ultrafiltration membrane is prepared by the phase inversion method with immobilizing Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT obtained by ultrasonic irradiation. During the removal of HA under light irradiation, Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT/PVDF membrane presents an unexpected increasing in water flux, when compared to pristine PVDF, Pd-TiO 2 /PVDF and PEDOT/PVDF membranes, with the highest normalized flux reaches up to 2.1 and remains as 1.3 even after 300 min of irradiation. This significantly enhances the water transport, along with the achieved high rejection and anti-fouling performance. It can be attributed to synergistic photocatalytic-photothermal effect of Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT, which is realized by their strong interaction and uniform distribution. The addition of PEDOT promotes photocatalytic effect of Pd-TiO 2 by enhancing separation of photo-induced charges. High photothermal conversion efficiency of Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT and low temperature difference in Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT/PVDF membrane facilitate effective thermal storage, beneficial for water transport. Meanwhile, thermal energy promotes generation of more ∙OH and ∙O 2 – radicals to remove pollutants. Synergistic photocatalytic-photothermal contribution in Pd-TiO 2 /PEDOT/PVDF membrane shows significant potential for practical application.

Recovery of cobalt from wastewater is a key method for achieving resource sustainability. A novel temperature-sensitive Co(II)-ion-imprinted composite membrane based on polyvinylidene fluoride was synthesised using N-isopropylacrylamide as the temperature-sensitive monomer and diisooctylphosphinic acid as the ligand. The preparation conditions for the imprinted composite membrane were systematically optimised, resulting in an optimal polymer with an adsorption capacity of 938.61 mg·g −1 that achieved adsorption equilibrium in approximately 30 min, outperforming most reported cobalt ion adsorbents. The surface morphologies of the Co(II)-IICM 6 membranes prepared under the optimal conditions were analysed. The results showed that the ionic ligands enabled the polymer particles to grow successfully and uniformly on the membrane surface. The imprinted composite membrane's pore size increased as a result of this expansion, with the specific area increasing from 13.01 m 2 ·g −1 to 16.84 m 2 ·g −1 . The imprinted composite membrane maintained a high adsorption capacity over ten cycles and exhibited excellent selectivity for Co(II) ions in aqueous samples containing Co(II), Ni(II), Cr(III), Cd(II), Cu(II), and Pb(II). These results indicate that the prepared temperature-sensitive imprinted composite membrane is promising for the separation of Co(II) from real water samples.

The eco-friendly nature and energy efficiency of polymeric membranes have established them as pivotal materials for oil-in-water emulsion separation. However, persistent membrane fouling caused by oil deposition remains a major challenge, significantly hindering their practical implementation in industrial settings. In this work, thiol–ene photochemistry was employed to synthesize PEGylated silica nanoparticles (SiO2-g-PEGDA) using poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) and hexanedithiol (HD) as monomers. Biomimetic PVDF membranes were engineered via vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) by integrating SiO2-g-PEGDA nanoparticles, followed by secondary coagulation in a dopamine (DA) solution. The experimental results demonstrate that the biomimetic membranes exhibit a characteristic sponge-like cross-sectional morphology and well-defined rough surface microstructures, which are attributed to the synergistic roles of SiO2-g-PEGDA as nanofillers and DA as interfacial cross-linker during secondary phase separation. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses confirm that the combined action of nanoparticles and PDA significantly increases the density of hydrophilic functional groups on membrane surfaces and within pore channels. The membranes exhibit excellent hydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity, achieving an outstanding emulsion flux of 3537 Lm–2 h–1 bar–1 and an oil removal efficiency of 98.5%. After 15 cycles of oil–water separation, the membranes maintain a high flux recovery rate of 85.6%. Moreover, the biomimetic membranes possess exceptional operational stability, as evidenced by consistent surface wettability under organic solvents, strong acid and high-salinity conditions.

Composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs) are considered as promising electrolytes for next-generation lithium batteries due to their superior advantages in safety, mechanical stability/flexibility, cathode compatibility, etc. However, achieving high Li + conductivity remains a major challenge, particularly at low temperatures. A key obstacle lies in the limited understanding of the complex interplay among amorphous components, including fillers, plasticizers, and residual solvents, which significantly hampers the rational design of high-performing CPEs. In this contribution, a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based composite electrolyte has been developed, exhibiting high room-temperature ionic conductivity/mobility (>1 mS cm −1 /0.95 × 10 −11 m 2 s −1 ), along with excellent electrochemical performances, including a wide stability window (4.8 V vs. Li/Li + ), superior charge/discharge capacity, and reversibility. By performing advanced solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) techniques, in combination with systematic investigations into solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs), gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs), and CPEs, we establish an efficient NMR-based strategy for deconvoluting the structural and dynamic features of complex electrolyte systems. Notably, the simple 1 H magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy enables the identification and monitoring of nearly all components in the composite matrix. Motion-Sensitive 1 H- 13 C and 1 H- 7 Li correlation experiments further reveal that the rigidity of PVDF polymer chain segments and the presence of residual solvents are two critical factors governing Li + mobility. Moreover, we demonstrate that the order of the filler and plasticizer addition during the CPE fabrication significantly influences the performance of the electrolyte by regulating the retention of residual solvents. This work not only provides molecular-level insights into the structure-ion mobility relationships in the PVDF-based CPEs but also establishes a general NMR-based characterization approach for investigating other complex composite electrolyte materials.

Porous poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) attracts considerable attention for mechanical energy harvesting and self-powered systems owing to its exceptional electromechanical coupling capabilities. Supercritical carbon dioxide foaming (SCF) that features solvent-free and green nature is one of the most preferable approaches to construct controllably porous polymers. Nonetheless, the electroactive β-phase of PVDF remains elusive during SCF due to its instability under an elevated temperature. Herein, we pioneer the use of ionic liquid (IL)-assisted SCF for the fabrication of self-polarized β-PVDF piezoelectric foam with tailored cells. IL incorporation not only facilitates CO2 infusion but also catalyzes the formation and preservation of β-phase crystals throughout the SCF process, culminating in a PVDF foam with an exceptionally high β-phase content (98%). Furthermore, the constructed honeycomb-like pore can effectively absorb external forces and significantly amplify the compressive strain, substantially enhancing the piezoelectric output of the PVDF foam. Impressively, PVDF foam with circumferential pore delivers a maximum piezoelectric output of 19.1 V, setting a new benchmark for SCF fabricated PVDF-based foam PEH. This advanced piezoelectric PVDF foam demonstrates significant potential as a flexible sensor for real-time monitoring of human foot pressure, highlighting its utility in adaptive sensing applications.

Membrane distillation (MD) is a viable technology and potential candidate for desalination of hypersaline wastewater. Nevertheless, MD membranes with high flux and superior antiwetting ability face a significant challenge for realizing high-efficient desalination. Herein, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hydrophobic porous membranes are fabricated by non-solvent induced phase separation. The structure of PVDF membranes, such as pore type, size, porosity, and surface hydrophobicity, can be well tuned over a wide range via adjusting phase separation conditions. To enhance the robustness of PVDF membrane, hydrophobized halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are blended for membrane fabrication. The enhanced mechanical strength of membrane increases wetting resistance via inhibiting pore deformation and LEP reduction during salt crystals growth. In the treatment of hypersaline wastewater (70 g∙L −1 ) containing 3 g∙L −1 CaCl 2 and 3 g∙L −1 Na 2 SO 4 via VMD, the HNTs/PVDF membrane with 50 wt% HNTs shows a high flux of 54 L∙m −2 ∙h −1 , over 99.99 % NaCl rejection, and outstanding stability for 100 h. Our work not only offers a novel strategy to enhance wetting resistance of MD membranes for hypersaline wastewater treatment, but also demonstrates that the mechanical strength of membranes also significantly influences antiwetting ability of MD membranes.

Membrane fouling represents a substantial barrier to the progress of ultrafiltration membranes. The catalytic membrane integrates ultrafiltration with advanced oxidation processes; this provides an efficient solution to mitigate membrane fouling. In this study, CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were integrated into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to develop a novel composite ultrafiltration membrane (PVDF@CoFe 2 O 4 ). The chemical composition, surface morphology, filtration performance, and catalytic ability of the synthesized PVDF@CoFe 2 O 4 membranes were systematically assessed. The hydrophilicity of the PVDF@CoFe 2 O 4 membrane was enhanced, and its water flux increased by up to 1.4 times using CoFe 2 O 4 doping. The PVDF@CoFe 2 O 4 membrane demonstrated the lowest degree of irreversible fouling and superior stability. In the presence of peroxomonosulfate (PMS), the 2.5 wt% PVDF@CoFe 2 O 4 membrane achieved a norfloxacin (NOR) removal efficiency of 82.5 % within 120 min; this value significantly exceeded the 17.82 % efficiency recorded for the pristine PVDF membrane. The synergistic effect of SO₄ •- and •OH led to the conversion of natural organic matter (NOM) into smaller molecules following oxidation, thereby enhancing the antifouling performance of the membrane. These findings provide a promising approach for mitigating NOM-induced membrane fouling in natural surface water.

Addressing industrial fluorine waste disposal while enhancing fluorinated triboelectric materials constitutes dual critical challenges. By compounding oxygen-free CaF 2 nanoparticles synthesized from solidified fluoride ions with PVDF, this study achieves simultaneous environmental remediation and triboelectric enhancement. The synergistic mechanisms include: (1) Intrinsic negative triboelectric polarity enhancement (work function increased from 4.97 to 5.31 eV); (2) Aggregated state modulation ( β -phase: 76.8 % to 90.8 %; crystallinity: 43.5 % to 48.9 %); (3) Interfacial polarization (>25 % dielectric constant increase at 1 kHz). The 20 wt% CaF 2 /PVDF composite film exhibits 128 V open-circuit voltage, 43 nC transferred charge, and 403.3 mW/m 2 power density - representing 2.79-fold enhancement over pure PVDF. The composite maintains >95 % output stability through 3000 bending cycles and functions effectively as wearable strain sensors for human motion monitoring. This integrated strategy establishes a sustainable paradigm merging waste valorization with high-performance triboelectric material design.

Hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) is a high-energy explosive widely used in composite explosives and propellants, but its application is severely limited by thermally induced ε-to-γ polymorphic transition and high solubility in nitrate ester solvents. The transition reduces energy density and increasing sensitivity, and the solubility causes dissolution-recrystallization defects (e.g., voids, compositional inhomogeneities) during long-term storage. To address these issues while preserving its high energetic performance, this study developed a polydopamine@polyvinylidene fluoride (PDA@PVDF) dual-coating strategy, fabricating CL-20 composite particles with a core-shell structure. In-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that the ε-to-γ phase transition temperature of CL-20 increased from 110 °C (pristine CL-20) to 140 °C. Meanwhile, the CL-20@PDA@9%PVDF sample exhibited the lowest solubility and the best solvent resistance, and the solubility of CL-20 in nitrate ester solvents was drastically reduced from 0.229 g/100 g to 0.026 g/100 g, an 88.6% decrease, effectively enhancing its structural and solvent resistance stability. For energetic performance, when mixed with aluminum powder at a 7:3 mass ratio, the CL-20@PDA@9%PVDF/Al composite achieved a combustion heat of 8275 J/g, 8.7% higher than that of the unmodified Al/CL-20 system (7611 J/g). Combustion pressure tests showed that although the modified system exhibited slightly lower initial peak pressure and pressure rise rate due to dilute CL-20 content from inert coatings, it presented a unique "delayed enhancement" effect, with pressure gradually surpassing and ultimately exceeding that of the unmodified system in the middle and late combustion stages, enabling more sustained high-pressure output. This work realizes the synergistic optimization of CL-20’s polymorphic/solvent stability and energetic performance, providing a feasible and scalable approach for the practical application of CL-20 in advanced energetic systems.

Surface modification of membranes through facile coating methods is a promising way to improve their pollution resistance and separation performance. Herein, a tea polyphenol (TP)-coated PVDF membrane (PVDF-TP) was prepared via a simple temperature-regulated oxidative polymerization. The obtained membrane exhibited a water contact angle of 0° and underwater oil contact angle of 168.2°. This superhydrophilic/underwater superoleophobic membrane showed good separation capabilities with fluxes of 88.3–169.9 L m−2 h−1 and separation efficiencies of over 98.7% for various oil-in-water emulsions under a gravity-driven process. The PVDF-TP membrane exhibited excellent stability and was capable of withstanding ultrasonic waves, bending, and agitation. Even after recycling for more than 15 times, the separation efficiency of the membrane was still above 98.7% and the flux decreased by approximately 37%, demonstrating a good antifouling performance. Considering the characteristics of its simple preparation, good antifouling performance, high separation efficiency, and good stability, the PVDF-TP membrane has broad application prospects in the field of oil–water separation.
