Cancer metastasis is a serious threat to human health. Cancer stem cells (CSC) are closely related to tumor metastasis, but it is difficult to achieve accurate drug delivery and effective inhibition of CSC due to the complex tumor microenvironment. Herein, we report a living cell delivery system, C-H@M2, engineered by loading M2 macrophages with carrier-free Ce6/Honokiol self-assembled nanoparticles. This system is designed to harness the tumor’s intrinsic recruitment mechanism for targeted anti-metastasis therapy. Acting as a “Trojan Horse”, C-H@M2 exploits the active recruitment of M2 macrophages by CSC to achieve precise tumor homing. Upon laser irradiation, the macrophages undergo photo-triggered immunogenic lysis (“self-explosion”), leading to the burst release of therapeutic payloads and the induction of robust immunogenic cell death (ICD). HK as an inhibitor of Forkhead box M1 (FOXM1) inhibits CSC stemness and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) in tumor tissues. In vivo experimental results demonstrate that C-H@M2 significantly inhibits tumor and lung metastasis through a triple-modal strategy: Self-explosion enhanced ICD effect, stemness and EMT inhibition, CSC killing by stemness inhibition and PDT. Our study provides a novel strategy for CSC targeted therapy and cancer metastasis inhibition. Graphical

A dual-mode sensing platform has been developed for ultrasensitive malathion (MAT) detection based on bifunctional rGO@ZnO/Zn-Fe 3 O 4 composites (reduced graphene oxide-supported ZnO nanorods and Zn-doped Fe 3 O 4 microspheres). The rGO@ZnO/Zn-Fe 3 O 4 nanozyme is fabricated via a one-pot hydrothermal strategy and integrates favorable electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emission and intrinsic peroxidase-mimicking activity to realize dual-signal readout. In the K 2 S 2 O 8 ECL system, Au NPs@UiO-66 serves as a coreactant booster to further magnify the ECL intensity of the composite. Meanwhile, the nanozyme catalyzes the H 2 O 2 -mediated oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce a colorimetric response. MAT suppresses both ECL and colorimetric responses by occupying Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ catalytic sites and scavenging of reactive radicals. The sensor achieves limits of detection as low as 2.8 × 10 –13 mol/L under ECL mode and 1.32 × 10 –6 mol/L under colorimetric mode. In practical testing of MAT-spiked vegetable samples, the sensor exhibits acceptable recoveries and low relative standard deviations, demonstrating its practicability for field food safety supervision and rapid pesticide residue screening. Reducing sugar content while maintaining palatability remains challenging, particularly when functional ingredients introduce bitterness. However, sweet-bitter interactions are rarely quantified at detection and discrimination thresholds. In this study, we applied a threshold-based psychophysical approach to characterise the bidirectional modulation between sucrose and three bitterants: iso-α-acid, epigallocatechin gallate, and quinine hydrochloride. Absolute and difference thresholds were determined under reciprocal background concentrations, concentration-difference strength functions were established, and a computable bidirectional interaction model was developed using quinine hydrochloride as a representative bitter compound. The absolute thresholds were 0.173% w/v for sucrose, 0.00018% w/v for iso-α-acid, 0.0093% w/v for epigallocatechin gallate, and 0.00025% w/v for quinine hydrochloride, indicating the following bitterness potency order: iso-α-acid > quinine hydrochloride > epigallocatechin gallate. The Weber fraction was 18.43% for sucrose and 11.09%, 21.40%, and 21.24% for iso-α-acid, epigallocatechin gallate, and quinine hydrochloride, respectively. Under sucrose backgrounds ranging from 1% to 8%, bitter absolute thresholds increased by 188.9% for iso-α-acid, 201.1% for epigallocatechin gallate, and 28.0% for quinine hydrochloride, while the corresponding Weber fractions increased by 148.9%, 51.2%, and 45.0%, respectively. Conversely, bitter backgrounds increased the sucrose absolute threshold by 74.1% to 116.2%. Despite these threshold shifts, the concentration–difference strength functions remained consistent with Weber–Fechner behaviour, with R 2 values greater than 0.97. These findings provide a quantitative, compound-specific framework for preserving perceived sweetness and mitigating bitterness in sugar-reduced food formulations.

Microwave absorption materials play a vital role in electromagnetic compatibility applications, where electromagnetic coupling between dielectric and magnetic components is crucial. However, in most reported systems, the magnetic loss capability is generally weaker than dielectric loss. To address this issue and achieve ultra-high loading of magnetic particles, concave SiC fibers were designed and fabricated via electrospinning, providing abundant active sites and enhanced surface curvature for effective deposition of magnetic components.Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were in situ grown on SiC fibers via a hydrothermal method to prepare lightweight Fe 3 O 4 /SiC composite fiber microwave absorbers. Systematic investigations reveal that an appropriate Fe 3 O 4 loading uniformly covers the fiber surface, forming abundant heterointerfaces and enhancing dielectric and magnetic loss.Query A high Fe 3 O 4 loading of up to 90 wt% was successfully achieved in the composite system. The Fe 3 O 4 -1:2 sample achieves a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of−40.62 dB at 6.95 GHz with a 4.0 mm thickness, effectively absorbing over 99.99% of incident electromagnetic waves and exhibiting a wide absorption bandwidth. These results indicate that the synergistic dielectric–magnetic loss and multi-interface polarization mechanisms significantly improve electromagnetic wave absorption, providing a promising strategy for designing lightweight, high-performance ceramic-based absorbers.

Hydrogel matrices for flexible electronic devices need to meet multiple criteria, including robust mechanical properties, appropriate skin adhesion, and high conductivity. Conventional hydrogels, however, often suffer from limitations such as hysteresis fatigue, poor adaptability, and structural fragility. In this work, we designed a series of polymerizable, water-soluble molecular slide-ring (MSR) units with precise host-guest molar ratios. These MSRs are based on bile acid guests functionalized with hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) chains of varying lengths, which specifically recognize host acrylate β-cyclodextrins. Subsequent photopolymerization of the MSRs with acrylamide yielded a range of SR hydrogels exhibiting wide tensile fracture strains and low hysteresis. Furthermore, the incorporation of nanoclay particles of laponite-RDS led to a composite slide-ring hydrogel system with improved toughness, high strength, and stable sensing performance. The composite hydrogel-based sensors not only demonstrate excellent skin adhesion and minimal skin irritation, but also monitor human motion and electrocardiogram signals with high sensitivity in both humans and mice, highlighting their potential for flexible wearable electronics. This study addresses key synthetic challenges associated with traditional slide-ring hydrogels and establishes a new paradigm for developing high-performance slide-ring materials using versatile MSRs.

The growing demand for lithium has underscored the urgency of developing efficient extraction technologies from brines. Conventional methods suffer from low efficiency and high energy consumption. Inspired by the selective ion uptake and storage mechanisms of Salicornia , we designed an ion-selective hydrogel pump (ISHP) system to achieve ultra-high throughput lithium extraction. ISHP consists of a crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel block and an ultrathin ion-selective polyamide (PA) membrane grown in situ on its outer surface. The ultra-strong hydration capacity of the hydrogel enables the generation of an osmotic pressure of up to 47.86 bar inside it under sunlight, providing a powerful driving force for the efficient uptake of Li + ions from high-salinity brine. The Li + flux of ISHP reaches 1.20 g m −2 h −1 , which is over one order of magnitude higher than the current report. A device composed of multiple integrated ISHP units connected in series is designed to enable continuous lithium extraction under natural outdoor sunlight. A comprehensive techno-economic analysis is carried out on the full process of ISHP-based Li 2 CO 3 production technology. Compared with the conventional evaporation-precipitation method, this technology can shorten the production cycle by 90% and increase the annual economic benefits by eightfold.

Conventional catalytic ozonation of electron-rich sulfur-containing pollutants shows limited efficiency due to nonselective oxidation of hydroxyl radicals ( • OH) and sulfate-induced deactivation of active metal sites. Here, we synthesized a high-entropy spinel, (CuNiMnCo)Fe 2 O 4 , featuring sublattice-resolved electronic reconstruction that enables selective ozone activation and suppresses sulfur poisoning. The catalyst achieves 99% removal of methyl mercaptan (CH 3 SH), significantly outperforming 51% of CoFe 2 O 4 . Spectroscopic analyses and density functional theory calculations reveal that high-entropy doping induces lattice distortion and local coordination disorder, which strengthen A–O–B covalency and inter-site electronic communication. This structural perturbation further drives a sublattice-resolved electronic reconstruction, enriching Co/Mn sites while depleting Fe/Cu/Ni sites. This electronic differentiation promotes cooperative dual-end activation of O 3 on Fe–Co/Mn motifs and preferential CH 3 SH adsorption on Cu/Ni sites. Orbital modulation of Co t 2g and Fe e g states near the Fermi level balances interfacial charge transfer, favoring formation of a surface-bound *O 3 species over conventional O–O bond cleavage. The resulting spatially separated activation and oxidation sites enable CH 3 SH mineralization via an electron transfer process while suppressing • OH generation and minimizing sulfate accumulation. This spatially differentiated reaction environment ensures durable performance under humid conditions. These findings establish sublattice-engineered electronic asymmetry as a strategy for selective catalytic ozonation.

An effective approach to eliminating organic pollutants is to develop step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction photocatalysts, because such heterojunctions can effectively promote photogenerated carrier separation while maximally retaining strong redox capability. Herein, S-scheme Bi 2 S 3 /BiOI (BBS) photocatalysts were synthesized using the in situ ion exchange method. Morphology and structure of BBS, as well as its photoelectrochemical properties, among others, were studied and analyzed. The photocatalytic activity of BBS was evaluated by degrading formaldehyde (HCHO) and methyl orange (MO). Compared with BiOI and Bi 2 S 3 , BBS catalysts demonstrated a remarkable improvement in photocatalytic performance under irradiation with visible light ( λ > 400 nm). With the highest photocatalytic efficiency, BBS-0.01 achieved degradation rates of 80% for HCHO (0.16 mg L −1 ) in 90 min and 97% for MO in 210 min. This notable enhancement in photocatalytic performance is attributed to the in situ ion exchange method, which constructs heterojunctions with intimate interfacial contact, uniform component distribution, high carrier separation efficiency, abundant active sites, and excellent stability. Furthermore, the S-scheme heterostructure further enhances catalytic performance owing to its well-matched energy band structures, efficient carrier separation, and the combined effect with the internal electric field (IEF). In addition, BBS photocatalysts exhibit a stronger visible-light response capability, consequently enhancing the overall photocatalytic efficiency. Hence, the BBS heterojunction photocatalyst presented in this work is a highly promising material for environmental applications under visible light. Graphical

Heat stress is prevalent in industrial biomanufacturing processes including Baijiu brewing and bioethanol production. It disrupts the membrane structure and lipid homeostasis of Saccharomyces cerevisiae , interferes with genome-wide gene transcription and retards cell growth, thereby greatly lowering fermentation efficiency and product yields. There is an urgent demand for food-safe additives to alleviate heat-induced damage to industrial yeast. Although vitamin D₂ (VD₂) shares a similar sterol structure with endogenous yeast ergosterol, its regulatory effects on yeast under heat stress remain poorly understood. Here, we adopted an integrated strategy combining phenotypic characterization, lipidomics, transcriptomics and molecular docking to explore the protective effects and regulatory pathways of exogenous VD₂ against heat stress in S. cerevisiae . Phenotypic assays showed that VD₂ supplementation effectively alleviated heat-induced growth retardation, elevated intracellular glutathione peroxidase activity and reduced membrane injury. Lipidomic analysis revealed that VD₂ remodelled cellular lipid profiles by increasing triglyceride levels, decreasing phosphatidylcholine content and promoting sphingolipid synthesis. Transcriptomic results further demonstrated significant upregulation of key genes involved in the S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) metabolic axis. Integrated multi-omics data and molecular docking prediction support a tentative mechanistic hypothesis: VD₂ may interact with Opi3p and potentially interfere with its catalytic function, which could further drive downstream metabolic reprogramming. In conclusion, this study reveals that VD₂ alleviates heat-triggered growth suppression by remodelling the SAM-dependent lipid metabolic network. As a food-grade additive, VD₂ possesses promising potential to alleviate heat-induced growth retardation of yeast starters in industrial fermentation. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for developing natural additives to mitigate yeast heat damage and optimizing high-temperature fermentation bioprocesses.

Calcium-ion batteries (CIBs) are promising candidates for post-lithium-ion batteries but face challenges including unsuitable cathodes and unclear failure mechanisms. Herein, a reconstructed vanadium oxide (Li@MgVO) is employed to investigate interlayer ion evolution during Ca 2+ -storage. Experiments and theory reveal that the previously overlooked non-electrochemical (de)intercalation processes of interlayer ions critically impact Ca 2+ -storage. Specifically, although Ca 2+ can intercalate into host materials without an applied electrochemical driving force, they do not contribute to the discharge capacity and, more seriously, hinders complete Ca 2+ deintercalation. Encouragingly, pre-intercalated Mg 2+ and Li + in Li@MgVO interlayers can exchange with Ca 2+ during cycling, and this “pre-intercalation-exchange” mechanism effectively minimizes the undesirable Ca 2+ intercalated via non-electrochemical processes. Consequently, the assembled Ca-ion hybrid capacitor exhibits a high capacity of 60 mAh g −1 at 500 mA g −1 with a capacity retention of 97.13% after 300 cycles, significantly higher than that of unmodified vanadium oxide (18 mAh g −1 and 80.45% capacity retention).

This work reported on boron-, fluorine-, and nitrogen-co-doped carbon dots (B/F/N-CDs) produced via a straightforward one-step hydrothermal process, followed by a detailed characterization of their properties. The B/F/N-CDs exhibited bright visible fluorescence, which was rapidly quenched by doxycycline (DOX) through a dynamic quenching mechanism. A fluorescent sensing platform for doxycycline was established, showing good linearity within the concentration range of 0.138–0.421 mM. Satisfactory recoveries (97.79-102.77%) and low relative standard deviations (RSD ≤ 4.45%) were achieved in spiked water samples, demonstrating reliable practical applicability. Moreover, when incorporated into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films, the B/F/N-CDs reduced the second after-flame time in vertical burning tests from 9.5 s to 5.2 s, indicating improved flame-resistant performance. The results confirm that heteroatom co-doping was a viable tactic for producing multifunctional carbon dots capable of serving dual application roles.

Hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) have emerged as promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), yet their practical application is hindered by intrinsic limitations. Excessive internal voids reduce the tapped density and volumetric energy density, while poor interparticle connectivity increases transport resistance and compromises rate capability. Here, we present a series of nitrogen-doped hollow carbon sphere clusters (HCSCs) with varying hollow diameters (20 nm, 100 nm, and 300 nm), achieved via a combined spray-drying and solution-stirring approach. The 20-HCSCs with ultra-small cavities (20 nm) markedly enhances tap density, while cluster-level interconnectivity establishes continuous pathways for efficient Li + and electron transport, thereby enabling rapid charge/discharge kinetics and high volumetric capacity. Consequently, the 20-HCSCs electrodes exhibit an exceptional reversible capacity of 447.3 mAh cm -3 after 90 cycles at 0.2 C, surpassing that of 100-HCSCs, 300-HCSCs electrodes and conventional graphite electrodes (around 372 mAh cm -3 ), and demonstrate remarkable high-rate cyclability, retaining 68.5 mAh cm -3 after 3000 cycles at 50 C. The ultrahigh volumetric capacity mitigates the volumetric penalty typically imposed by hollow structures, offering a viable strategy to reconcile high capacity, fast-charging capability, and competitive volumetric performance in carbonaceous anodes.
