A color converter is a critical component in realizing new-generation laser lighting because it displays thermal-induced luminescence saturation due to substantial heat accumulation. Herein, a multi-channel thermal design was introduced in a phosphor-in-glass film (PiGF) color converter, and a double-sided heat-conducting BN@PiGF@Al2O3 converter was proposed for high-brightness laser lighting. The BN@PiGF@Al2O3 was prepared via low-temperature sintering of a PiGF on a reflective Al2O3 substrate, which was then topped with a BN-in-glass (BiG) layer. The PiGF thickness was adjusted to control the photo-thermal performance of the laser-driven BN@PiGF@Al2O3. As the Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ (YAG) PiGF thickness reached 80 μm, the laser-driven BN@PiGF@Al2O3 emitted white light with a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5823 K and a chromaticity coordinate of (0.3251, 0.3441) under a laser power density (LPD) of 30 W mm−2. The BN@PiGF@Al2O3 yielded a high luminous flux (LF) of 4784 lm@30 W mm−2, which was 1.39 times that of the traditional PiGF@Al2O3 converter with an LF of 3445 lm@18 W mm−2. Furthermore, the BN@PiGF@Al2O3 displayed a working temperature of 232 °C under an LPD of 30 W mm−2. The results demonstrate that the BN@PiGF@Al2O3 displays efficient double-sided heat transfer and improved luminescence saturation, making it a promising reflective color converter for high-brightness laser lighting.

Phase relationships in the Yb 2 O 3 –Al 2 O 3 –SiO 2 system are critical for the design and corrosion protection of environmental barrier coatings (EBCs), the available data remain scarce and primarily limited to studies from the 1990s. The isothermal phase diagram of the Yb 2 O 3 –Al 2 O 3 –SiO 2 system at 1600°C was conducted using a classical high-temperature equilibrium quenching technique, followed by XRD, SEM, and EPMA phase analysis. The data were reported in the form of liquidus projections and an isothermal phase diagram at 1600°C, with one single-phase region, six two-phase regions, and seven three-phase regions. A comparison of the liquid phase regions at 1550°C and 1600°C revealed a systematic expansion with increasing temperature, consistent with thermodynamic expectations. The experimental results from the present work are essential for the development of a thermodynamic database for rare earth oxides, providing vital guidance for designing next-generation EBCs.

Aiming at the key issues of current vehicle Ammonia Slip Catalyst (ASC) catalysts, such as poor low-temperature activity, high noble metal content, and narrow operating window, this study aims to construct multi-scale pore structures in Al 2 O 3 supports of supported catalysts to regulate selective catalytic oxidation of NH 3 (NH 3 -SCO) across broad temperature ranges and space velocities by improving convective diffusion, conduction, migration, and adsorption processes within catalyst voids. Characterization results show that a series of catalyst supports with different pore structures was successfully prepared using different templates. Pt was loaded using an optimized supported catalyst preparation method. Meanwhile, the coating amount of the prepared catalyst on cordierite monolith substrates was significantly reduced, and NH 3 -SCO performance tests were conducted. The results indicate that single mesoporous structures have limited regulation on the intrinsic activity of catalysts, while macroporous structures enhance the influence of desorption and void diffusion of gas-phase reactants and products on catalytic reactions. In the presence of macroporous structures, the promotional effect of mesopores on NH 3 -SCO reactions is enhanced. Among all catalysts, hierarchical porous catalysts with larger pore diameters and better interconnected pore structures exhibit NH₃ conversion rates exceeding 99 % across the full temperature range of 200℃ - 500℃, with NH 3 concentrations below the regulatory limit of 10 ppm throughout the operating window. Macroporous structures and their pore diameters play a dominant role in regulating NH 3 -SCO reactions, particularly with stronger regulation at low temperatures. Increasing space velocity enhances the diffusion rate of NH 3 gas molecules while amplifying the influence of pore structure regulation on catalysts. Notably, compared with traditional Pt/Al 2 O 3 , pore structure regulation does not significantly increase the generation of N 2 O while effectively enhancing the catalytic activity of the ASC catalyst.

The valorization and toxicity reduction of phenolic substances are critical challenges for achieving green and sustainable development in the petroleum, coal, and biomass industries. This study investigated the phenolic model compound guaiacol hydrodeoxygenation over Ru/Al 2 O 3 catalysts, demonstrating that synthesis within an anaerobic glovebox significantly enhances catalytic activity compared to ambient synthesis. Four solvents (ethanol, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, and n-dodecane) were evaluated for their impact on guaiacol conversion and product distribution. Experimental results demonstrated that non-polar n-dodecane achieved 100 % guaiacol conversion and 92.8 % cyclohexane selectivity, attributed to weak catalyst-solvent interactions verified by first-principles calculations. Reaction optimization enabled > 90 % yields of 2-methoxycyclohexanol, cyclohexanol, and cyclohexane. Crucially, a novel low-temperature demethoxylation pathway via the intermediate 2-methoxy-1-cyclohexen-1-ol was identified through quantum chemistry calculations, offering a strategy to enhance cyclohexanol production. Kinetic analysis revealed apparent activation energies of 55 kJ/mol (demethoxylation) and 72 kJ/mol (dehydroxylation). The catalyst maintained stable performance over five cycles. These findings underscore the critical importance of catalyst synthesis, solvent environment, and reaction control in achieving efficient and selective guaiacol hydrodeoxygenation, offering strategies for green valorization and toxicity reduction of phenols.

Direct dehydrogenation of alcohols to aldehydes is a pivotal transformation in fine chemical synthesis. However, conventional thermal processes often suffer from low efficiency and high energy consumption. Herein, we propose an emerging and sustainable strategy that employs CO 2 -assisted in situ hydrogen extraction to drive the dehydrogenation of alcohols under mild conditions. Specifically, CO 2 as a soft oxidant adsorbs and activates on the Cu–ZnO–Al 2 O 3 composite oxide catalyst surface, generating reactive species (COO*) that selectively abstract hydrogen from the α -C of the alcohol. Combined Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic analysis and density functional theory calculations reveal a higher formation rate of the aldehyde product and the lower activation barrier for the key C–H bond activation process under the CO 2 atmosphere. As a result, the CO 2 -assisted dehydrogenation markedly enhances reaction efficiency, achieving a 60.21% conversion of 2-ethylhexanal under a low temperature (240°C), which is nearly twice that observed under the pure N 2 atmosphere. This CO 2 -assisted dehydrogenation strategy in this work exhibits a cooperative catalytic pathway that not only enables efficient aldehyde production but also utilizes CO 2 as a chemical resource.

Supported Ag catalyst for ethylene epoxidation was prepared by an impregnation–bioreduction process with Cinnamomum camphora (CC) extract. Influence of bioreduction temperature, concentration of CC extract, silver loading amount, calcination temperature as well as Cs promoter on catalytic performance were thoroughly investigated and the catalysts were characterized. The results showed that the catalyst prepared from bioreduction process exhibited excellent performance for the ethylene epoxidation with O 2 . Proper amount of Cs addition could effectively improve the catalytic performance of the catalyst. The optimal catalyst 15Ag/α-Al 2 O 3 -150Cs gave the EO concentrations of 1.70%, EO selectivity of 87.46% and EO STY of 223.07 g h −1 L −1 cat at 200 °C, showing high catalytic stability with no significant decrease in the activity and the selectivity during 50 h.

The surface of alumina (Al2O3) particles was modified by a blocked isocyanate silane coupling agent, which was synthesized by using methylethyl ketoxime (MEKO) to block isocyanate-propyltriethoxy silane via nucleophilic reactions. For comparison, the surface of Al2O3 particles was also modified by propyltrimethoxy silane (KH-331). The thermally conductive and electrical insulating Al2O3/polyamide 6 composites were prepared by dispersing modified Al2O3 in polyamide 6 (PA6) using a twin-screw extruder. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results revealed that blocked isocyanate-propyltriethoxy silane and KH-331 were successfully attached to the surface of Al2O3 particles with chemical bonds. The blocked isocyanate silane modified Al2O3 were well dispersed in PA6 as revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). When the Al2O3 content was 70 wt%, the tensile strength (85.2 MPa) and flexural strength (136.4 MPa) of blocked isocyanate silane modified Al2O3/PA6 composites were higher than those of KH-331 modified Al2O3/PA6 composites (52.5 MPa, 77.8 MPa), respectively. The thermal conductivity and impact strength of blocked isocyanate silane modified Al2O3/PA6 composites were also higher than that of KH-331 modified Al2O3/PA6 composites at the same content of Al2O3. The volume electrical resistivity of modified Al2O3/PA6 composites decreased with increasing Al2O3 content, but they still were good electrical insulating materials.

Recent studies revealed that both the Al 2 O 3 –Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce (YAG:Ce) composite ceramic (YAG-CC) and single crystalline YAG:Ce (YAG-SC) possess very high luminescence-saturation thresholds (LSTs), which makes them promising for laser lighting applications. The present study is aimed to conduct a comparative investigation between YAG-CC and YAG-SC on aspects of the laser-pumped luminescence and the associated thermal behavior. The colorimetric and photometric properties (e.g. luminous flux/efficacy, correlated color temperature, and color rendering index) were investigated systematically, by conducting the measurements using a custom-built sphere-spectroradiometer system in the transmission mode. It was found that YAG-SC has a superior LST and it could maintain a high luminous efficacy (106 lm/W) under the irradiation of a 15.33 W blue laser , while the YAG-CC saturated at around 7.76 W. Moreover, by combining the thermal imaging data with the spectral variation of the YAG-CC, novel experimental insights into the origin of luminescence saturation were revealed and proposed as the “thermally-induced absorption saturation”.

Mg-Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) adsorbent was synthesized in situ on γ -Al 2 O 3 for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. The material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electronic microscopy and thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis. Compared to the LDHs powder, the calcined LDHs sorbent prepared in situ on γ -Al 2 O 3 had higher specific surface area and was easy to recover and reuse. The adsorptive capacity for removing Cr(VI) from aqueous solution was resulting from the memory effect of LDHs based on the XRD results. Both the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir model fit the experimental data well. Furthermore, the adsorbent exhibits excellent sorption–regeneration performances.

Traditional steam reforming technology encounters two primary challenges: catalyst deactivation and fuel system instability, which limit its hydrogen production efficiency and potential applications. This work addresses these challenges through the concurrent development of novel catalysts and highly stable fuel emulsions. In this work, ultra-stable quasi-homogeneous “water + JP-10/RP-3” systems were formulated utilizing binary Span 80/Tween 80 emulsifiers. The alloy-structured Ni 0.93 Pt 0.07 /Al 2 O 3 catalyst was synthesized via stirred impregnation followed by annealing. The catalyst demonstrated superior reforming efficiency and resistance to coking: with exo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene (JP-10,one of jet fuels) at 740 °C, a gas yield of 28.8 wt% and a hydrogen output of 4.68 mmol·g −1 were achieved alongside a consistent 20 % level of aromatic coke precursors. Furthermore, its capability with complex fuels was affirmed by reforming RP-3 aviation kerosene at 700 °C, which yielded 3.48 mmol·g −1 of H 2 . By combining steam reforming performance tests with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis, this study clarifies the dual synergistic effects that contribute to its exceptional performance: (1) Platinum-induced electron-rich nickel significantly decreases the adsorption energy of critical intermediates, hence improving the efficiency of C-H bond activation. (2) The Pt addition markedly diminishes carbon deposition by reducing the tendency of CH x * intermediates to undergo further dehydrogenation into carbonaceous deposits, facilitating their effective removal.

CF 4 , is a highly potent greenhouse gas emitted by the electrolytic aluminum industry, with a global warming potential 7390 times that of CO 2 . Its urgently necessary to effectively control and decompose it. Alumina industry is the upstream of electrolytic aluminum industry, from which the red mud (RM) generated should be recycled. In this study, the decomposition performance of CF 4 was improved by loading γ-Al 2 O 3 on hydrochloric acid-treated RM. Under optimal conditions (reaction temperature of 650 °C, WHSV of 1500 h −1 , and material dosage of 1 g), the decomposition efficiency of Al 1 HRM 2 for CF 4 reached 85 %. Compared with the unmodified acid-treated RM (HRM), the conversion rate and stability were significantly improved. The results of NH 3 -TPD, Py-IR and XPS indicated that acid treatment and addition of γ-Al 2 O 3 significantly increased the Lewis acid site and medium-strong acid site of Al 1 HRM 2 . During the reaction, CF 4 adsorbs and dissociates at the strongest Lewis acid site (Al Ⅲ ), forming an intermediate (CF 2 O) and CO 2 to achieve the decomposition of CF 4 . In comparison with existing decomposition techniques, the method proposed here avoids the generation of corrosive HF, while also promoting the development of a greener aluminum industry and the formation of high-value fluorides.

Complete oxidation of propane has attracted widespread attention in the treatment of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from Fischer-Tropsch synthesis tail gas. Pt-based catalysts have been considered highly promising catalysts for the catalytic oxidation of propane due to their high-activity. However, despite the recognized importance of the synergistic effect between Pt nanoparticles (NPs) and support materials, the detailed reaction mechanism investigation remains limited. In this work, we demonstrate that the Pt/Al 2 O 3 catalyst exhibits improved propane catalytic performance, which is attributed to the synergistic interaction between Pt NPs and surface hydroxyl groups on the support. The improved Pt dispersion in Pt/Al 2 O 3 catalysts with smaller Pt NPs facilitates the spillover of gaseous oxygen species and the stabilization of active sites for propane oxidation. Furthermore, in- situ DRIFTS characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculation confirm that surface hydroxyl groups on Al 2 O 3 effectively reduce the activation barrier for C-H bond cleavage, thereby improving the reactivity of propane molecules. This work provides a novel insight into metal-support synergy for propane oxidation, which offers strategic guidance for the rational design of efficient catalysts in hydrocarbon conversion processes.
