In this paper, NdFeO 3 nanofibers were synthesized by the electrospinning method for the first time and used for the detection of triethylamine. XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, XPS, and gas-sensitive test instruments were used to detect the morphology, structure, and gas-sensitive properties of the synthesized products. The results show that the average diameter of the nanorods is about 275 nm. The specific surface area is 10.298 m 2 /g, the total pore volume is 0.112 cm 3 /g, and the average pore diameter is 43.469 nm. Gas sensing tests were carried out on NdFeO 3 nanofibers. The gas-sensitized element was found to have a low optimal operating temperature of 190 °C. The response to 100 ppm triethylamine was 18.9. The response time and recovery time were 72 and 35 s, respectively. A series of test results showed that the sample had excellent selectivity, reproducible detection, long-term stability, and a low detection limit for triethylamine. It has a lot of potential for practical TEA monitoring and detection.

Background: Sucralose and benzo(a)pyrene (B[a]P) are widespread foodborne substances known to harm human health. However, the effects of their combined exposure on kidney function remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms by which sucralose and B[a]P induce kidney injury through P-glycoprotein (PGP/ABCB1), a crucial protein involved in cellular detoxification. Methods: C57BL/6N mice were co-treated with sucralose and B[a]P for 90 days to evaluate their impact on kidney histopathology and function. In vitro experiments assessed cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and B[a]P accumulation by flow cytometry. Molecular docking and cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA) were used to determine the binding affinity of sucralose to PGP. Furthermore, PCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry were performed to analyze the expression of PGP and its upstream transcription factors. Results: Ninety days of co-exposure to sucralose and B[a]P significantly exacerbated renal dysfunction in mice, as evidenced by the elevated level of serum creatinine and urea nitrogen, which could be reverted by ROS scavenger N-acetyl cysteine (NAC). In vitro, sucralose promoted cellular accumulation of B[a]P, consequently enhancing B[a]P-induced cell growth inhibition and ROS production. Consistently, B[a]P accumulation was enhanced by PGP knockdown in both HK2 and HEK-293 cells. Mechanistically, sucralose can directly bind to PGP, competitively inhibiting its efflux capacity and increasing intracellular B[a]P retention. Prolonged co-exposure further downregulated PGP expression, possibly through the reductions of its transcriptional regulators (PXR,NRF2, andNF-κB). Conclusions: Co-exposure to sucralose and B[a]P exacerbates renal injury by impairing PGP function. Mechanistically, sucralose inhibits PGP activity, resulting in the accumulation of B[a]P within renal cells. This accumulation triggers oxidative stress and inhibits cell growth, which demonstrates that sucralose potentiates B[a]P-induced nephrotoxicity by directly inhibiting PGP-mediated detoxification pathways, thus underscoring the critical need to evaluate toxicity risks associated with combined exposure to these compounds.

P-Xylene is a prevalent indoor hazardous volatile organic compound(VOC). A long-term exposure limit of 100 ppm for p-xylene is generally recommended. Therefore, sensitive and selective detection of trace p-xylene is crucial. This work presents a method for detecting p-xylene gas by combining terahertz (THz) metasurface sensor with a metal-organic-framework (MOF) material, copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (HKUST-1). The sensor with double split ring resonators is fabricated using a micromachining process and characterized by a terahertz time-domain-spectroscopy (TDS) system. The test results are consistent with the simulation. Subsequently, the sensor's surface is modified using the MOF material of HKUST-1 to enhance its sensitivity to the p-xylene gas. At room temperature, the sensitivity for p-xylene gas concentrations is between 1-100 ppm .The modified sensor has a maximum response frequency shift of 14 GHz for p-xylene gas at 100 ppm. Furthermore, the specificity, repeatability and stability of the sensor are characterized. The proposed method for highly sensitive and specific detection of p-xylene gas has important reference significance for the development of other types of gas sensors.

Natural skin receptors use ions as signal carriers, while most of the developed artificial tactile sensors utilize electrons as information carriers. To imitate the biological ionic sensing behavior, here, we present a kind of biomimetic, ionic, and fully passive mechanotransduction mechanism leveraging mechanical modulation of interfacial ionic p–n junction (IPNJ) through microchannels. Sensors based on this mechanism do not rely on an external power supply and can encode external tactile stimuli into highly analogous signal outputs to those of natural skin receptors, in terms of both signal type (i.e., ionic potential difference) and signal intensity (≈120 mV). More importantly, the instant interfacial IPNJ regulation characteristic endows the sensors with superior performance when compared to the state-of-the-art piezoionic sensors, including a low detection limit of 0.01 N, fast response/recovery speeds (16 ms/16 ms), ultralow power consumption (pW level), excellent reproducibility (over 100,000 cycles), and good capabilities to resolve both static and dynamic mechanical stimulations. As demonstrations, machine-learning-assisted high accuracy (over 99%) surface texture recognition and object classification are successfully demonstrated with the sensors integrated on robotic hands. This work enriches the family of mechanical sensing mechanisms and provides a path to mimicking natural tactile sensory systems for smart skins, artificial prostheses, and intelligent robots.

In light of the escalating severity of water pollution, the development of innovative and efficient photocatalytic materials has emerged as an urgent requirement. In this study, P-doped ultrathin g-C3N4 was successfully synthesized using the chemical vapor deposition technique, specifically to enhance the photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) and the dye rhodamine B (RhB). The purpose of P doping was to modify the electronic structure of g-C3N4 and increase its photocatalytic efficiency. The microstructure, chemical state, and light absorption properties of the material were extensively analyzed using advanced characterization techniques such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). The study revealed that P doping not only enhanced the structural stability of the nanosheets but also effectively broadened the material's light-responsive range by creating new band structures. Photocatalytic tests showed that under visible light irradiation, P-doped ultrathin g-C3N4 demonstrated outstanding degradation efficiency against TC and RhB. Specifically, the doped catalyst reduced the concentrations of TC and RhB by more than 90% within 60 minutes, markedly surpassing the performance of undoped graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets. Moreover, the phosphorus-doped materials retained high catalytic activity and stability after repeated usage cycles. From a theoretical perspective, this research applied density functional theory (DFT) based on first principles to deeply investigate the electronic properties of P-doped ultrathin g-C3N4. The calculations disclosed that phosphorus doping led to modifications in the band structure, particularly an increase in localized states at the valence band top, which is vital for facilitating the effective separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Additionally, the doping significantly altered the charge distribution on the material's surface, enhancing the catalyst's capacity to adsorb and activate molecules of TC and RhB. Overall, this research not only provided an efficient photocatalytic material for addressing persistent pollutants in aquatic environments but also explored the fundamental mechanisms by which P doping improves the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4, thereby offering theoretical and experimental bases for the design of novel photocatalysts.

Recently, the development of conductive epoxy nanocomposites has garnered significant attention due to their potential applications in advanced electronic devices. However, uniform dispersion of nanofillers in epoxy matrix remains a challenge in the composite engineering, directly governing the interfacial adhesion and macroscopic performance. In this study, aniline-p-phenylenediamine copolymer (P(ANI-PDA)) nanofibers with microscale length are successfully synthesized via interfacial polymerization methods, which are employed as conductive nanofillers in epoxy nanocomposites. The imine groups in the copolymer backbone enhance its dispersion within the epoxy matrix, as evidenced by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, which confirms interactions between P(ANI-PDA) and epoxy. The optimal mechanical performance is achieved at 5 wt.% loading of P(ANI-PDA), where the epoxy nanocomposites exhibit a tensile strength of 83.83 ± 2.62 MPa with a 11% highe than that of pure epoxy (74.70 ± 0.94 MPa). With increasing the loading of P(ANI-PDA) to 15 wt.%, the volume resistivity of epoxy nanocomposites reaches 7.23 × 10 6 Ω cm, which is six orders of magnitude lower than that of pure epoxy (6.50 × 10 12 Ω cm), suggesting the potential application in the antistatic field of materials.

The detection of p-nitrophenol (PNP) is of great significance for assessment of environment pollution and potential health risks. In this study, based on inverse opal polymeric photonic crystals (IOPPCs), a selective and visual sensor for high-performance PNP detection is developed. Due to their unique optical properties, IOPPCs report events by change of color, which can easily be observed by the naked eye. Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was selected as the functional monomer with which to fabricate the IOPPCs. By precisely adjusting the molar ratio between the functional monomer and the crosslinker, the sensors were only able to be sensitive to a specific solution, thus realizing the visual, selective, and semi-quantitative detection of PNP. When the sensors were immersed in different concentrations of PNP solution, their Bragg diffraction wavelengths showed different redshifts. The color of the IOPPCs changed from green to red as the peak shift of Bragg diffraction occurred. In addition, the IOPPCs displayed good interference immunity and reusability. Keywords:polymeric photonic crystals;structural color;p-nitrophenol

We explored the feasibility of using urinary metabolites of p-chloronitrobenzene (p-CNB) as exposure biomarkers of occupational p-CNB exposure. Forty-two workers exposed to p-CNB during their jobs at a chemical enterprise in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China were included in the exposure group, while administrative personnel who do not come into contact with p-CNB at work were included in the control group. Each worker in the exposure group was equipped with a personal air sampler to collect airborne p-CNB samples, and urine samples were collected at the conclusion of each shift. After sample collection, the airborne p-CNB concentrations and urinary metabolite concentrations were detected by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and ultra-performance liquid chromatography - quadrupole - orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometry, respectively. The urinary metabolite concentrations were corrected by the content of urinary creatinine. Subsequently, the correlations between the urinary metabolite concentrations and the p-CNB time-weighted average (TWA) concentrations were assessed using correlation analysis. All p-CNB TWA concentrations measured in this study were below the occupational exposure limit in the Chinese national standards. In the exposure group, N-acetyl-S-(4-nitrophenyl)-L-cysteine (NANPC), 2-chloro-5-nitrophenol (2C5NP), p-chloroacetanilide (p-CAA), p-chlorooxanilic acid (p-COA), 2-amino-5-chlorophenol (2A5CP), and p-chloroaniline (p-CA) were detected at varying levels. The percentages of NANPC, 2C5NP, p - CAA, p - COA, 2A5CP, and p - CA were 64.1%, 5.1%, 0.3%, 15.1%, 5.1%, and 10.3%, respectively. We found extremely significant positive relationships ( p < 0.01) between the urinary metabolite concentrations (p-CA, 2C5NP, 2A5CP, NANPC, and p-COA) and the p-CNB TWA concentrations, with respective correlation coefficients of 0.827, 0.673, 0.790, 0.714, and 0.741. Thus, these five metabolites may be used as exposure biomarkers of occupational p-CNB exposure. Moreover, among these metabolites, NANPC was identified as the most suitable exposure biomarker because it had the highest correlation coefficient and the highest content in urine.

The superb properties of poly- p -phenylene benzobisoxazole nanofibres (PNFs) have been realized in research institutes for advanced applications, such as military and aerospace industries. However, PNFs experiences major challenges in production and retaining their integrity after breaking into nanoscale. The current study succeeded to efficiently prepare reinforcing PNFs within considerably short time via ball-milling sol-gel disruption (BM-SGD) method. The BM-SGD method was able to produce ultrafine PNFs with diameters of 20 ± 5 nm at a concentration of 1 wt% in only 24 min; the method is ready for rapid and scalable production of PNFs. The intense collisions and shear forces during ball milling improve contact between fibres and reactants, accelerating the dissolution of fibres into a PNF sol. A wall-breaking step is used to disrupt PNF network to be integrated into polyurea matrix. The ultra-high specific surface area and surface functional groups of PNFs facilitate strong physical and chemical cross-linking with polyurea (PUA), leading to significant enhancement in its mechanical properties; tensile strength and Young's modulus of polyurea increased by 111.75 % and 106.10 %, respectively upon adding only 0.25 wt% PNFs. Additionally, the PUA/PNF nanocomposite demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance, as evidenced by the Tafel polarization test. The PUA/PNFs demonstrated high recyclability achieving 85 % recycling efficiency after the third cycle. This research pioneers a cost-effective strategy for the mass production of ultrafine PNFs, paving the way for advanced elastic and functional nanocomposites with broad industrial applications.

Epoxides, a class of ethers with a three-membered ring structure, are widely used in the textile, pharmaceutical, and packaging industries. Chemoenzymatic epoxidation presents a promising method for synthesizing epoxides. However, its epoxidation efficiency is hindered by low chemoselective perhydrolysis, which is caused by the hydrolysis side reaction in the aqueous phase. In this study, a chemoenzymatic epoxidation process in the aqueous phase was developed by utilizing an acyltransferase from P. litoralis (PlAcT) for its chemoselective perhydrolysis. Crystal structure analysis, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum mechanics calculations, along with site-specific mutagenesis, revealed that the selectivity of perhydrolysis is due to a lower energy barrier in the acyl transfer step compared to that in hydrolysis. Furthermore, the mutant PlAcTM3–2 exhibited a 7.6-fold improvement in solvent stability and a 1.3-fold increase in perhydrolysis activity compared to the wild type, achieved by reshaping interface interactions. As a result, the engineered strain Y07, harboring PlAcTM3–2, successfully synthesized compounds 3a–3n with conversions ranging from 11–99%, and the titers of compounds α-pinene oxide(3i), β-pinene oxide(3j), 3-carene oxide(3k), and limonene dioxide(3l–3) reached 55.8, 16.7, 75.2, and 21.4 g/L, respectively. These results demonstrate a sustainable method for chemoenzymatic epoxidation in the aqueous phase.

The well-designed internal electric field (IEF) with band bending effects will effectively accelerate the separation and transfer of photogenerated charges to foster a photocatalytic performance. Hence, in this work, the IEF-induced BiOCl/TiO2 p-n heterojunctions are prepared through the hydrothermal method for photocatalytic H2O2 production. The BiOCl/2TiO2 composite performed a superior H2O2 yield of 4.75 mM h–1, which is 4 times higher than that of pristine BiOCl. The p-n heterojunction mechanism was investigated via XPS and photoelectrochemical property tests, in which BiOCl/2TiO2 showed the highest photogenerated charge separation efficiency for boosting photocatalytic activity. This work provided an effective strategy for the design of p-n heterojunction photocatalysts to enhance photocatalytic performance.

Disinfection by-products (DBPs) in drinking water represent a significant public health concern. The contribution of non-natural organic matter compounds, such as rubber antioxidants, as DBP precursors has not been unveiled. This study investigated the degradation of four commonly consumed p -phenylenediamine (PPD) rubber antioxidants under chlorination and chloramination, evaluating their roles as DBP precursors. Results showed that PPDs degraded rapidly in both disinfection processes, with chlorine exhibiting a higher reactivity (59.38 − 139.42 M −1 s −1 ) than chloramine (0.69 − 1.36 M −1 s −1 ). The degradation of PPDs lead to the formation of known chlorinated DBPs (Cl-DBPs), constituting 32 % − 44 % of total organic chlorine. These known Cl-DBPs demonstrated significantly lower acute toxicity than unknown DBPs. Taking N -(1,3-dimethylbutyl)- N' -phenyl- p -phenylenediamine as an example, nontarget high-resolution mass spectrometry identified eight chlorination-derived and six chloramination-derived new DBPs. Proposed transformation pathways mainly included chlorine substitution, oxidation, amine hydrolysis and hydroxylation. Quantitative structure-activity relationship modeling predicted acute toxicity (LC₅₀) values as low as 0.15 mg L −1 for Fathead minnow and 0.91 mg L −1 for Daphnia magna , suggesting that these newly identified DBPs could substantially contribute to the overall toxicity of disinfected waters. These findings highlight the importance of considering rubber antioxidants as DBP precursors in drinking water systems, emphasizing the need for more effective control strategies to mitigate the risks posed by these emerging contaminants.
