A peroxidase-like MOF coated magnetic surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probe as Ni@Mil-100(Fe)@Ag nanowires (NMAs) was developed, which can detect multiple cationic dyes with a good recyclability and a high sensitivity. Specifically, Mil-100(Fe) with peroxidase-like activity was fabricated on the magnetic prickly Ni nanowires through layer-by-layer (LBL) method. With the presence of 10 mM H 2 O 2 , hydroxyl radical (•OH) produced by peroxidase-like catalytic reaction of Mil-100(Fe) layer can easily eliminate the pollution molecules within 1 min without any requirement for expensive equipment or complicated process. The magnetic NMAs can provide a rapid refreshment for at least 10 times. In addition, carboxyl-functionalized Mil-100(Fe) can not only increase the decoration efficiency of Tollens but also promote the selective enrichment of the cationic dyes, which endows the probe with a greatly improved sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 10 −10 M for crystal violet (CV). Following the erasure by H 2 O 2 , multiple cationic fishery drugs in pond water can be sequentially detected. Such a recyclable SERS probe holds a great potential in various applications as aquaculture, biomedicine and chemical analysis.

Cysteamine-modified silver nanoparticle aggregates has been fabricated for pentachlorophenol (PCP) sensing by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) using a portable Raman spectrometer. The cysteamine monolayers could preconcentrate PCP close to the substrate surface through the electrostatic interaction, which makes the SERS detection of PCP possible. Moreover, the Raman bands of cysteamine could be used as the internal spectral reference in the quantitative analysis. Qualitative detection of PCP was carried out by SERS without any sample pretreatment. Quantitative analysis of PCP was further realized based on the prepared substrate, as the log–log plot of normalized SERS intensity of PCP versus its concentrations exhibits a good linear relationship. The SERS signals collected on 20 randomly selected points show that the relative standard deviation of the normalized Raman intensity is 5.8%, which indicates the substrate had good uniformity. The PCP sensor also shows good long-term stability in the analyte solution. The substrate was cyclic immersed into PCP and methanol solution; after several cycles, the sensor still had good adsorption to PCP, which revealed the sensor has good reusability. Coupling with a portable Raman spectrometer, the cysteamine-modified silver nanoparticle aggregates have the potential to be used for in situ and routine SERS analysis of PCP in environmental samples.

The development of sensitive and rapid methods for analysis and detection of small molecules is highly desirable for medical diagnostics and therapeutics. We report an acupuncture needle functionalized with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and a macrocyclic amine (MA) Raman tag as the platform to realize the sensitive detection of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The assembled Au NPs with abundant hot spots on the surface of the needle avoids the aggregation of Au NPs and results in a good signal response. Moreover, there is strong combination between ATP and MA through electrostatic adsorption, hydrogen-bonding interactions, and π–π stacking, and as a consequence, this functionalized needle can be used as a SERS platform for detection of ATP (25 nM) through a decrease of the Raman signal of MA resulting from the high chemical affinity of ATP for MA. Specially, the Au NP/MA-functionalized needle is conveniently used to monitor ATP (100 nM) added to serum, and demonstrates great promise in the study and detection of ATP in a complex sample, laying the foundation for SERS applications in complex acupuncture specimens with fast response and simple operation.

A Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) substrate based on Ag/β-AgVO3 nanobelts deposited on copper foil (Cu@Ag/β-AgVO3) was used for the detection of carbamate pesticides: carbofuran, carbaryl, isoprocarb and propoxur. Cu@Ag/β-AgVO3 has shown an excellent SERS activity for carbamate pesticides compared to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Under optimized conditions, detection limits of 2.5 pM, 10 pM, 50 pM and 75 pM were obtained for carbaryl, carbofuran, isoprocarb and propoxur respectively, suggesting that Cu@Ag/β-AgVO3 is a good candidate for use as a SERS substrate for the trace level detection of these pesticides.

In this work, we have developed a novel SERS-based approach to detect hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) scavenging activity by using gold nanoshell precursor nanocomposites (SiO2/GNPs) as nanoprobes. H2O2 can reduce AuCl4− to Au0 and enlarge the gold nanoparticles (GNPs) that attached on the surface of SiO2. As the concentration of H2O2 increases, the surface coverage of resultant gold on silica cores increases accordingly until continuous gold nanoshells (GNSs) are formed. During the growth process, there is a strong correlation between the SERS-activity of the GNSs and the amount of H2O2 that is used as reductant. When H2O2 reaches 250 μM, the resultant GNSs show the highest SERS-activity. H2O2 can be scavenged by antioxidants such as tannic acid and L-apple acid. Their H2O2 scavenging activities were determined by restraining the H2O2-mediated (250 μM) growth of SiO2/GNPs. The decrease of the SERS-activity was proportional to the H2O2 scavenging activity of the antioxidant. The results showed that tannic acid had a much higher H2O2 scavenging activity than that of L-apple acid.

A miniature multi-channel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is constructed to achieve rapid delivery of polluted water and specific identification of multiple components. Hg 2+ , organic pollutants, and sodium nitrite are successfully identified by the multi-channel SERS sensor using Cy5, cyclodextrin, and urea in the corresponding detection area. This multi-channel sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity and specificity, with detection limits of 3.2 × 10 −10 M for Hg 2+ , 1.0 × 10 −8 M for aniline, 6.9 × 10 −9 M for diphenylamine, 9.1 × 10 −8 M for PCB-77, and 7.5 × 10 −9 M for pyrene, and 5.0 × 10 −7 M for sodium nitrite. Compared with traditional analysis techniques, this method exhibited excellent recovery for the water pollutants ranging from 82.1 to 115.8%. The PDMS-based microchannel allows for simultaneous and rapid identification of multiple environmental pollutants, offering a portable detection method for emergency testing of environmental pollutants and routine determination of water pollutants. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a novel spectroscopic technique that enables the identification of analytes through analysis of their unique chemical signatures. Its high sensitivity, specificity, and rapid response make it a valuable tool in a range of fields, including biological detection, food safety, and environmental monitoring. However, traditional SERS nanoparticle substrates are susceptible to instability and agglomeration. In this study, Ta4C3 MXene/gold nanostar (AuNSs) hybrids were prepared as SERS substrates. By optimizing the experimental conditions of AuNSs, the optimal preparation method for the Ta4C3 MXene/AuNSs composite structure was identified. The addition of MXene to the Ta4C3 MXene/AuNSs hybrid substrates was found to enhance the sensitivity of the composite for Raman detection, as evaluated using 4-aminothiophenol (PATP) as a Raman molecule. This improvement in sensitivity is attributed to the enhanced electromagnetic properties of the hybrid substrates, which facilitate more efficient charge transfer and enhance the Raman scattering process. The limit of detection (LOD) of Ta4C3 MXene/AuNSs is 10–9 M for PATP and 10–7 M for thiram solutions. In addition, good reproducibility and spatial uniformity were obtained for the Raman signals of Ta4C3 MXene/AuNSs. Furthermore, Ta4C3 MXene/AuNSs were combined with filter paper to create paper-based SERS substrates that could be used for detection. By directly wiping the apple peel and subsequently detecting the thiram residues using Ta4C3 MXene/AuNSs, the level of detection of thiram residues on the peel surface was down to 7.8 ng/cm2.

This work presents a novel flexible imprinted membrane-made surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for selective detection of microcystins-LR (MC-LR) in water. Silver nanocubes decorated with titanium dioxide (Ag NCs@TiO 2 ) nanoparticles (NPs) are dispersed on a flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane as the SERS substrate. The PDMS exhibits excellent optical properties, ensuring the detection accuracy. A photo-initiated polymerization process is employed to maintain the molecular integrity of MC-LR while improving the resistance of the SERS substrates to air-induced oxidation. By optimizing the reaction condition, optimal SERS imprinted membrane is applied to selective detection of practical samples. The characterization results indicate that the Ag NCs@TiO 2 molecular imprinted membranes (ATP-MIMs) present accurate detection property to the MC-LR molecules from complex solution. Rapid detection within around 1 min is achieved by the as-prepared flexible molecularly imprinted SERS sensor. The limit of detection of MC-LR is 0.0313 μg·L −1 and the ATP-MIMs exhibit a high stability of more than 86.6 % after 28 days. It clearly exhibits from results that ATP-MIMs hold significant potential applications to trace MC-LR detection and provide a novel approach to the water quality monitoring.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) offer unique chemical selectivity for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), yet their intrinsically weak light–matter coupling fundamentally limits sensitivity and has long hindered their practical deployment as plasmon-free SERS substrates. Here, we report a photonic-crystal strategy that fundamentally amplifies charge-transfer (CT)-mediated SERS in MOFs by exploiting slow photons at the photonic stop-band edge. Using UiO-66(Zr) nanocrystals as the model MOF, the assembled ordered MOF photonic crystals (PhCs) with tunable Bragg reflection are precisely aligned to the excitation wavelength. The resulting slow-light effect dramatically increases photon residence time and local electromagnetic field within the MOF pore domains. This slow-photon confinement synergistically couples with CT processes between MOFs and analyte molecules, resulting in a tenfold enhancement in SERS intensity compared with disordered MOF assemblies and an enhancement factor up to 5.15 × 10 8 without any plasmonic components. By leveraging the intrinsic band-structure tunability of MOFs, selective CT-SERS is further demonstrated across different molecular systems and environments. The optimized MOF-PhCs substrate enables ppb-level detection and multicomponent discrimination of lung-cancer-associated volatile organic compounds, which are digitally encoded into machine-readable Raman barcodes. This work establishes slow-photon-regulated MOF photonic crystals as a versatile platform for plasmon-free, chemically programmable, and functionally integrated SERS sensing.

Squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) a magnetic enrichment–assisted core–satellite surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) biosensor for ultrasensitive squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) detection is reported. Magnetic nanoparticles functionalized with SCCA capture antibodies act as enrichment cores, while 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (MBA)–encoded Au@Ag core–shell nanoparticles conjugated with SCCA detection antibodies serve as SERS satellites. Target-mediated sandwich immunorecognition induces a dynamically assembled core–satellite structure, bringing plasmonic nanogaps into close proximity and generating reproducible electromagnetic hot spots for signal amplification. Magnetic pre-enrichment and controlled assembly help reduce nonspecific protein interference in serum and contribute to stable signal generation. The biosensor exhibited a monotonic concentration-dependent Raman response over the range of 1 fg/mL to 10¹¹ fg/mL and achieved a limit of detection (LOD) of 60.0 fg/mL. Quantitative determination of serum samples was performed using an independently established matrix-matched calibration curve. The platform was further validated using real human serum samples from early-stage lung SqCC patients ( n = 8) and healthy controls ( n = 8), showing higher SCCA concentrations in patient samples than in healthy controls and clear discrimination between the two groups. Overall, the proposed magnetic enrichment–assisted core–satellite SERS immunoassay provides a robust analytical strategy for sensitive SCCA quantification in complex serum matrices. This study addresses the critical need for rapid and sensitive detection of cisplatin, a widely used chemotherapeutic agent often limited by severe toxicities and drug resistance. Traditional detection methods are time-consuming and unsuitable for point-of-care applications. We developed an surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platform leveraging novel gold nanooctahedra‑silver nanocube core-shell (AuNO@AgNC) nanoparticles. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations predicted a local field enhancement factor of 153.30 for the isolated nanostructure and further supported the use of 633 nm excitation by revealing a red-shifted coupled dimer plasmon mode near 644 nm in the film-relevant configuration. A facile oil-liquid interfacial self-assembly method enabled the fabrication of highly uniform SERS films. Evaluation with Rhodamine 6G (R6G) demonstrated a linear detection range from 0.5 nM to 500 nM, an impressive SERS enhancement factor of 1.57 × 10 8 , and excellent signal reproducibility (relative standard deviation, RSD, of 14.85%). Applying this platform for cisplatin detection yielded a calibration range from 5 nM to 1000 nM, with an S/N-based limit of detection (LOD) of 1.9 nM and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 6.5 nM. This research highlights the significant potential of our AuNO@AgNC SERS substrate for quantitative monitoring of low-concentration anticancer drugs.

Accurate and multiplexed detection of metabolic small molecules is essential for the management of metabolic and renal diseases. However, due to the diverse chemical structures of metabolic molecules and the wide range of their concentrations, the accurate analysis becomes extremely challenging. Herein, a reliable ratiometric surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing platform based on Au@4-MBA@Ag core-shell nanocubes is reported, which effectively resolves the SERS signal fluctuations and severe background interference during the measurements, enabling the quantitative analysis of uric acid (UA), creatinine (CRE), and pH in human urine. By confining 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) reporters within a sub-nanogap between the Au core and Ag shell, a shielded internal standard is established, effectively mitigating external environmental and matrix interference. Furthermore, a morphology-selective purification process elevates nanocube purity to over 90%, which effectively mitigates systematic errors induced by morphological heterogeneity, providing the substrate with uniform electromagnetic hotspots and reliable signal reproducibility. Upon functionalizing the outer Ag shell with pH-sensitive 4-mercaptopyridine (4-MPY) probes, this spatially decoupled nanoplatform enables self-calibrating pH monitoring within the 4.0–7.0 range. Concurrently, it achieves the highly sensitive quantification of UA and CRE, with limits of detection reaching 2.16 × 10⁻⁹ M and 2.29 × 10⁻⁸ M, respectively. Coupled with a facile pretreatment, the sensor demonstrates robust matrix tolerance in real human urine. This proof-of-concept validation yields recoveries of 93%–102%, confirming the method's accuracy. The blind-test results show high concordance with clinical gold standards, which hold great potential for the non-invasive detection of metabolic and renal diseases.
