Regorafenib, an oral multikinase inhibitor of angiogenic, stromal, and oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinases, has been approved for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors and hepatocellular carcinoma by the US Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency. However, regorafenib-induced cardiotoxicity increases the risk of mortality. Despite reports that regorafenib can cause mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiomyocytes, the molecular mechanism of regorafenib-induced cardiotoxicity is much less known and there is an urgent need for intervention strategies. Here, we treated mice with vehicle or 200 mg/kg regorafenib daily for 42 days by gavage or treated cardiomyocyte lines with 8, 16 or 32 μM regorafenib, and we found that regorafenib could cause apoptosis, mitochondrial injury and DNA damage in cardiomyocytes. Mechanistically, regorafenib can reduce the expression of EPHA2, which inhibits AKT signaling, leading to cardiomyocyte apoptosis and cardiotoxicity. In addition, we showed that recovering EPHA2 expression via plasmid-induced overexpression of EPHA2 or schisandrin C, a natural product, could prevent regorafenib-induced cardiotoxicity. These findings demonstrated that regorafenib causes cardiomyocyte apoptosis and cardiac injury by reducing the expression of EPHA2 and schisandrin C could prevent regorafenib-induced cardiotoxicity by recovering EPHA2 expression, which provides a potential management strategy for regorafenib-induced cardiotoxicity and will benefit the safe application of regorafenib in clinic.

Serious solvation effect of zinc ions has been considered as the cause of the severe side reactions (hydrogen evolution, passivation, dendrites, and etc.) of aqueous zinc metal batteries. Even though the regulation of cationic solvation structure has been widely studied, effects of the anionic solvation structures on the zinc metal were rarely examined. Herein, co-reconstruction of anionic and cationic solvation structures was realized through constructing a new multi-component electrolyte (Zn(BF 4 ) 2 -glycerol-boric acid-chitosan-polyacrylamide, simplified as ZGBCP), which incorporates double crosslinking network via the esterification, protonation and polymerization reactions, thereby combining multiple advantages of ‘liquid-like’ high conductivity, ‘gel-like’ robust interface, and ‘solid-like’ high Zn 2+ transfer number. Based on the ZGBCP electrolyte, the Zn anodes achieve record-low polarization and stable cycling. Furthermore, the ZGBCP electrolyte renders the AZMBs ultrawide working temperature (−50 °C ~ +100 °C) and ultralong cycle life (30000 cycles), which further validates the feasibility of the dual solvation structure strategy and provides a innovative perspective for the development of high-performance AZMBs.

Sintering-induced aggregation of active metals is a major cause of catalyst deactivation. Catalysts that can operate above 800°C are rare. Here, we report an unusual noble metal catalyst with sintering-induced activation at temperatures up to 1,000°C. The catalyst consists of atomically dispersed palladium embedded in a reducible SnO 2 support designated for lean methane combustion. High temperature reaction simultaneously causes favorable changes of palladium ensemble state combining synergistically with lattice oxygen activation. Such changes lead to at least one order of magnitude improvement of the intrinsic reactivity, which compensates the surface area loss. Extensive characterizations such as atom probe tomography, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and isotope tracking together with theoretical calculations illustrate the structure and surface chemistry changes and their impacts on the reaction mechanism. The catalyst also shows notable long-term stability and facile regeneration after poisoning. Our work may provide new insights into designing active and thermally stable catalysts.

Herein, a novel SnO 2 -based lithium-ion battery anode has been obtained by constructing well-designed hierarchical composite consisting of carbon coated SnO 2 nanosheets decorated with carbon coated Sn nanospheres. It is demonstrated that thus as-prepared SnO 2 -based composite anode exhibits good lithium storage performance due to its beneficial structural features which can enhance both conductivity and structural stability of the whole composite electrode. This work may provide new insight into the construction of SnO 2 -based composite anodes with new structures.

Abstract Nano γ-Al 2 O 3 support was prepared by sol-gel method, and the Mg 2 Si/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst was prepared by impregnation method from Mg 2 Si and the γ-Al 2 O 3 support. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction, N 2 adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy and CO 2 temperature-programmed desorption analysis. The catalytic hydrocracking of lignite-related modelcompounds, 1-methoxynaphthalene (1-MON) and bibenzyl ether (BE), was investigated. Mg 2 Si was well distributed on the surface and in the voids of γ-Al 2 O 3 support. The Mg 2 Si/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst had high specific surface area, large amount of mesopores, strong basicity, and exhibited high catalytic efficiency in hydrocracking of 1-MON and BE due to the synergic effect between Mg 2 Si and γ-Al 2 O 3 . Under an initial hydrogen pressure of 3 MPa and reaction time of 60 min, the conversion of 1-MON and BE reached 100% when the reaction temperatures were 225 and 175°C, respectively. The selectivities for naphthalene and toluene were close to 100%, only traces of the hydrogenated products were detected. After 4 cycle tests, the catalytic activity of Mg 2 Si/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalystdropped to 50%.

This work demonstrates a facile molten-salt synthesis of carbon-titanium nitride (C-TiN) nanocomposites. The C-TiN nanoparticles showed excellent electrocatalytic activity and thus were employed for the electrochemical determination of dopamine (DA). By using a differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method, a C-TiN modified glassy carbon electrode (C-TiN/GCE) presented a high sensitivity (9620 µA·µM·cm −2 ) in the determination of DA and its detection limit (LOD) was 0.03 µM (S/N = 3). Moreover, the C-TiN/GCE sensor was used to detect DA in human serum, and acceptable recoveries were obtained.

Developing simple and efficient synthesis methods for electrocatalysts is the key to advancing the process of electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). In this study, we employ the simple hydrothermal method and modulate the pH to prepare the CuO-In(OH)3 heterostructure catalyst. It is found that the prepared lamellar CuO-In(OH)3-12 hetero-composite catalyst accelerates the reaction kinetics, provides more active sites, and strengthens the electronic interaction between Cu and In. The obtained catalyst achieves a notable Faradaic efficiency of 40.26% for C2 products at a current density of 18.5 mA cm-2. This work provides a new approach for the development of hetero-catalysts under synthetic regulation methods and different metal combination selections.

Polymer films offer advantages for capacitors, but high-temperature operation requires new dielectric materials. This study develops a molecular engineering strategy for poly(amide-ester-imide) (PAEI). Skeleton customization via amide groups and ultra-long chains enhances the dielectric constant (ε r ) through optimized dipole alignment. Simultaneously, electrostatic interactions between PAEI and the organic semiconductor [6,6]-phenyl-C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) promote hydrogen bonding, constructing a robust crosslinked network. Leveraging PC61BM's unique high electron affinity, the composite exhibits strong electron-trapping capability, significantly reducing high-temperature conduction loss (achieving an ultralow conductivity of 4.97 × 10 −13 S cm −1 at 200 °C). This synergistic effect suppresses carrier mobility by constructing deep electron traps. The resulting nanocomposite demonstrates breakthrough performance: ultralow conductivity and exceptional energy storage characteristics ( U e is 5.16 J cm −3 with η is 90.7% at 200 °C). Multiscale validation-integrating DFT calculations, MD simulations, phase-field simulations, and experimental characterization-confirms that the molecularly engineered crosslinked network suppresses leakage current by trapping charges and restricting chain segment motion under coupled thermal/electrical stress. This work establishes a robust molecular blueprint for extreme-condition dielectrics, demonstrating how nanoscale interfacial engineering bridges molecular design to macroscopic high-temperature capacitive performance. The strategy provides a new pathway for next-generation energy storage materials operating in harsh environments.

Ti(C,N)-based cermets are widely used in cutting tools and high-temperature structural components, but their application is limited by difficulties in fabricating large and complex-shaped parts. In this study, Ti(C,N)-based cermets were prepared via gel-cast using a CoCrCuFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) as the binder. The effects of solid loading on slurry stability and green body formation, as well as the influence of sintering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties, were investigated. The results show that stable slurry and uniform green bodies were obtained at a solid loading of 55 vol%. With increasing sintering temperature, densification and mechanical properties improved concurrently, while the fracture mechanism transitioned from intergranular fracture to matrix tearing. The Ti(C,N)-based cermet sintered at 1550 °C for 60 min exhibited excellent properties, with a relative density of 96.42%, hardness of 1665.67 HV30, bending strength of 671.75 MPa, and fracture toughness of 6.44 MPa m 1/2 , comparable to conventional Ti(C,N)-Ni cermets. These results demonstrate that gel-cast with a HEA binder is a promising approach for fabricating large, complex-shaped Ti(C,N)-based cermets.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is one of the most essential biomarkers for the early detection of inflammation and infection. In this study, we developed a sensitive and selective electrochemical immunosensor for CRP detection, leveraging the unique properties of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). A nanostructured layer of AuNPs was deposited onto a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE), followed by the formation of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of L-cysteine and EDC/sulfo-NHS chemistry. The antibody was covalently immobilized onto the modified electrode through optimized dual-crosslinking chemistry. Detection conditions were systematically optimized, with pH 8.0 in Tris buffer providing the best electrochemical response. Electrochemical characterization was performed using cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in a 5 mM K3[Fe(CN)6]/K4[Fe(CN)6] redox probe solution containing 0.1 M KCl. CRP detection was achieved by monitoring the increase in charge transfer resistance (Rct) upon specific binding of the target CRP antigen to the immobilized antibody. Spiked recovery experiments showed spiked recovery rates ranging from 98.01% to 107.14%, with a standard deviation below 4%. Regeneration studies demonstrated high efficiency, confirming the suitability of the sensor interface for repeated and reliable measurements. Under optimized conditions, the immunosensor exhibited excellent analytical performance, including a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.16 µg/mL, a wide linear detection range of 5–100 µg/mL, high selectivity against 13 potential interferents (including inflammatory cytokines), and good reproducibility with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.69%. The sensor also showed strong stability, retaining more than 95% of its signal after 15 days, and high regeneration efficiency of 97% over seven cycles. These results highlight the strong potential of the proposed immunosensor for point-of-care (POC) applications due to its simple fabrication, cost-effectiveness, user accessibility, and robust analytical performance.

Background Germacrone, a major bioactive component of Curcuma zedoaria , exhibits promising anticancer activity across various preclinical models. However, its molecular mechanisms in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), particularly regarding metabolic regulation, remain largely unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential and underlying mechanisms of germacrone in RCC, specifically focusing on lipid metabolic reprogramming. Methods This study integrated network pharmacology and RNA sequencing transcriptomics to identify potential molecular targets of germacrone in 786-O and Caki-1 cells. In vivo antitumor efficacy was evaluated using the subcutaneous xenograft tumor model in BALB/c nude mice. In vitro, cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and cell cycle distribution were assessed using CCK-8, flow cytometry, transwell, and colony formation assays. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, de novo fatty acid synthesis was examined by quantifying intracellular triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels. Interactions between germacrone and the c-Fos/SREBP1 signaling axis were analyzed using Western blot analysis, cellular thermal shift assays (CETSA), and molecular docking. Functional validation was performed using c-Fos overexpression plasmids to assess the extent to which germacrone’s effects were reversible. Results Germacrone significantly inhibited RCC growth in vivo, as evidenced by reduced tumor volume and weight, without detectable systemic toxicity. In vitro, germacrone suppressed proliferation, migration, and invasion in 786-O and Caki-1 cells, while promoting apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Transcriptomic and molecular analyses indicated that germacrone targets the c-Fos transcription factor, leading to the downregulation of the SREBP1 signaling pathway and key lipogenic genes ( FASN and ACC1 ). This regulation resulted in a marked reduction in intracellular fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis. Notably, c-Fos overexpression significantly reversed the germacrone-induced suppression of lipid metabolism and cell viability, confirming that germacrone functions primarily by modulating the c-Fos/SREBP1 axis. Conclusion Germacrone serves as a novel modulator of the c-Fos/SREBP1 pathway, effectively inhibiting the growth of renal cancer by disrupting c-Fos-mediated lipid metabolism. These findings identify c-Fos as a potential therapeutic target and highlight germacrone as a promising candidate for RCC treatment strategies targeting metabolic reprogramming.

Triple-layered C@SiC@SiO 2 microspheres were successfully fabricated. • Superb RL of −62.95 dB and 3.05 GHz bandwidth are achieved at thinness. • Gradient impedance structure boosts wave penetration and attenuation. Gradient structural engineering holds great promise in boosting microwave absorption capability by realizing smooth impedance matching and manipulating electromagnetic wave transportation within materials. Herein, well-defined triple-layered C@SiC@SiO 2 microspheres with a dielectric gradient architecture are rationally constructed via hydrothermal self-assembly followed by carbothermal reduction. By delicately regulating the composition ratio of C/SiC/SiO 2 , the optimized absorber achieves outstanding room-temperature microwave absorption properties: a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −62.95 dB at a thin thickness of 1.73 mm, and a broad effective absorption bandwidth (EAB max) of 3.05 GHz (RL < −10 dB) at merely 1.68 mm, which covers the most of the X-band. The excellent absorption performance is synergistically contributed by the significantly optimized impedance matching originating from the three-layer dielectric gradient architecture, abundant heterogeneous interfaces inducing intense interfacial polarization, as well as rich dipoles favoring strong dipole polarization. Moreover, the gradient structure also promotes multiple scattering and reflection of electromagnetic waves, further enhancing energy attenuation. This work not only develops a high-performance microwave absorber but also offers a feasible strategy for designing gradient heterostructures toward advanced electromagnetic wave absorption applications.
