To address the environmental challenge of sulfur hexafluoride (SF 6 ), a CuO@ZnO catalyst was prepared from a Cu/Zn-BTC bimetallic precursor. This enabled a synergistic treatment system with sulfur element-catalyzed conversion and fluorine element-fixation. The experimental results show that under mild conditions of 500 °C and 0.2 MPa, during a 20 h catalytic process, the catalyst achieves a maximum degradation efficiency of 96.34% for 2% SF 6 , with high selectivity converting it to SO 2 , while fluorine was fixed as CaF 2 . In-situ XRD characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed a key in situ activation process. Under NH 3 induction, CuO is reduced to metallic Cu, forming an optimal Cu@ZnO interface that enhances SF 6 adsorption and bonding. This significantly lowers the energy barriers for S-F bond cleavage and SO 2 formation. The rate-determining step, the energy barrier for SO 2 formation, dropped from 2.74 eV to 0.48 eV compared with CuO@ZnO, thus providing a kinetic explanation for the catalytic mechanism. Overall, this work offers a high-performance catalyst for SF 6 treatment and a new theoretical basis for designing MOF-derived materials for fluorinated greenhouse gas conversion.

Cyclopropane-based aerospace fuels exhibit the excellent volumetric calorific value, leading to broad application prospects in aircrafts. However, due to the highly rigid structure of the cyclopropane (compared to cyclobutane or cyclopentane, etc.) and the difficulty in forming metal-carbene intermediates, there are still significant challenges in the precise synthesis of multi-cyclopropane-based high-energy fuels ( ≥ 2 cyclopropane structures). Herein, via the introduction of bending strain on metal organic complex, we report a single-site Cu/single-walled carbon nanotube catalyst (Cu/SWCNT), which possesses 2.6-fold conversion (up to 77.4%) and 4-fold selectivity (up to 45.7%) as that without bending strain for the preparation of bi-cyclopropane-based fuels from dienes. XAFS and DFT calculations show that bending strain enhances the upward shift of d-band center of β electrons (−4.370 to −4.366), thus promotes the adsorption and activation of CH 2 N 2 and alkenes. Moreover, bending strain elongates Cu-O bonds (1.91 to 1.96 Å), making it easier for CH 2 N 2 to insert and form Fischer carbene intermediates. These two aspects obviously reduce the reaction energy barrier from 40.3 to 33.7 kcal·mol -1 for the cyclopropanation process. Our work provides a method of strain engineering to regulate C-C coupling reactions at the molecular level, and achieve highly efficient cyclopropanation from alkenes.

The thermally activated persulfate (PDS/thermal) system has been widely explored for removing refractory organic pollutants, yet its efficiency remains constrained by energy demand and limited radical generation. In this study, Cu(II) was introduced as a homogeneous catalyst to enhance carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation in the PDS/thermal process. Under optimal conditions (40 μM Cu(II), 1 mM PDS, 60 °C), complete CBZ removal was achieved within 20 min, with the pseudo-first-order rate increased by 62 % compared to the PDS/thermal system without Cu(II). Probe experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations verified that SO 4 •− , • OH, and high-valent Cu(III) jointly contributed CBZ degradation, with SO 4 •− remaining the predominant reactive species. Arrhenius analysis revealed a reduction in apparent activation energy by 22.11 kJ·mol −1 , further supporting the the catalytic role of Cu(II) in facilitating O O bond cleavage and radical production. UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS identified hydroxylation, epoxidation, and deacetylation as major transformation pathways, yielding products with generally lower or comparable toxicity relative than CBZ. Moreover, the Cu(II)-PDS/thermal system demonstrated strong adaptability to pH variations, background ions, natural organic matter, and diverse organic pollutants, and maintained high efficiency in real water samples. These findings highlight the synergistic role of Cu(II) in thermal persulfate activation and provide mechanistic and practical insights for its application in the remediation of pharmaceutical-contaminated waters.

A dual-phase copper-doped iron oxide nanozyme (Cu-α/γFO) was synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method for efficient organic pollutant degradation. The as-prepared Cu-α/γFO exhibits excellent peroxidase-like activity, degrading 99.5% rhodamine B (RhB) under optimal conditions (pH 4, 40°C) while retaining 40.73% of its initial activity after three cycles. Critically, it demonstrates broad-spectrum catalytic efficacy, efficiently degrading diverse organic dyes (e.g., cresol red, methyl violet, methylene blue), and retains high catalytic activity even in complex environments containing coexisting cations (K⁺, Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺), anions (H₂PO₄⁻, HCO₃⁻, NO₃⁻), or organic solvents (acetone, ethyl acetate). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the Cu-doping-induced α/γ-Fe₂O₃ phase crystal structure, while minimal copper leaching after 21-day aqueous storage validated structural integrity. The mechanism of enhanced peroxidase-like activity of Cu-α/γFO was proposed based on integrated characterization, including electron spin resonance (ESR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and density of states calculations. Degradation pathways were elucidated using high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) identification of intermediates and theoretical calculations. This work presents a dual-phase engineering strategy through targeted metal doping, advancing high-performance nanozymes for sustainable environmental remediation.

Herein, a novel sunlight-independent tribocatalytic system with efficient friction energy harvesting capability is proposed. This system demonstrates enhanced tribocatalytic performance of cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) nanoparticles driven by the friction between Cu coated on the glass beaker bottom and a Teflon (PTFE) magnetic disk. An apparent rate constant of 0.045 min −1 was achieved for methylene blue (MB) degradation, representing a 2.7-fold improvement over the CeO 2 @glass/PTFE system (0.01682 min −1 ). Notably, the system achieved > 90% degradation efficiency for high-concentration MB solutions (40 mg/L), surpassing the performance of previously reported tribocatalytic systems. Through multiscale tribo-interface characterization and radical trapping experiments, the synergistic catalytic mechanism was elucidated: Friction-induced charge carriers in CeO 2 are efficiently transferred via the interfacial electronic effects of the Cu/PTFE friction couple and the active surface with Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ redox couples. Electron paramagnetic resonance analysis confirmed that Cu coating modification on the surface of the beaker bottom enhanced hydroxyl radical (·OH) yield by 2.3-fold compared to glass, enabling complete pollutant degradation through hole (h + )-dominated oxidation pathways. This work transcends conventional catalyst modification strategies, establishing a new paradigm for interface engineering in mechano-chemical energy conversion systems.

With the widespread utilization of biomass resources, the released sulfurous gases during its pyrolysis will cause environmental pollution. The Cu-Y adsorbent offers an effective solution to this issue due to its superior sulfur adsorption capacity. In this study, the effects on the performance of biochar and the sulfur adsorption capacity of the adsorbent were investigated by adjusting the Cu loading and the co-pyrolysis temperature. The results indicated that increasing both these parameters will facilitate the decomposition of organic sulfur in biochar, leading to the formation of sulfurous gases. The 15 wt% Cu-Y adsorbent exhibited the best synergistic catalytic-adsorption performance at 300 °C, achieving a maximum sulfur adsorption capacity of 9.88 mg S/g. And the biochar desulfurization efficiency reached 83.7 %. Characterization analysis revealed that excessive Cu loading (>15 wt%) reduced the specific surface area and mesopore volume of the Cu-Y adsorbent. Furthermore, Cu species tend to aggregate into metal clusters ranging from 130 to 300 nm, which can mask active sites and consequently reduce the adsorption capacity. Additionally, high temperature (350 °C) caused the structural collapse of the Cu-Y adsorbent, leading to a significant decline in sulfur adsorption capacity. This study further clarified the adsorption mechanism of various sulfurous gases, including dimethyl disulfide (C 2 H 6 S 2 ), dimethyl sulfide (C 2 H 6 S), carbonyl sulfide (COS), carbon disulfide (CS 2 ), thiophene (C 4 H 4 S), methanethiol (CH 3 SH), and hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S). These results confirmed the dual functionality of Cu-Y adsorbent in enhancing biochar quality and adsorbing sulfur emissions, providing a sustainable strategy for cleaner biomass conversion.

In this study, an ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) was synthesized by coordination induced self-assembly, in which the tannin was used as carbon precursor, Cu 2 + and Ce 3+ cations were as both crosslinking agents and catalyst precursors. The results indicated that the Cu 0 , Cu + and oxygen vacancies were in-situ formed by self-reduction of the nascent CO gas during carbonization, and well-dispersed within the OMC substrate. Moreover, the resulting Cu + species and oxygen vacancies were firmly stabilized in the Cu-CeO x interfaces induced by the strong electronic interaction between Cu 0 and CeO 2 . Simultaneously, the OMC substrate created abundant ordered mesoporous structure to disperse and confine the Cu-CeO x species. The balanced Cu 0 and Cu + species in the Cu-CeO x @OMC catalysts synergistically boosted the hydrogenation of cyclohexyl acetate. Benefited from those, the Cu-CeO x @OMC-550–3 catalyst exhibited the excellent activity and stability for hydrogenation of cyclohexyl acetate into cyclohexanol even without reduction by hydrogen. Specifically, under the optimal reaction conditions of 250 °C, 4 h, 4 MPa H 2 and 50 mg catalyst dosage, the cyclohexyl acetate conversion and selectivities of cyclohexanol and ethanol achieved 95.9 %, 96.6 % and 98.4 %, respectively. Moreover, the catalyst showed no significant changes in structure and activity after five reusing times, delivering robust stability and reusability.

Cu bismuthate nanosheets have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal process. The structure and morphology of the nanosheets are analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM). Electrochemical performance for the determination of tartaric acid using Cu bismuthate nanosheets has also been analyzed by cyclic voltammetric (CV) method. XRD pattern shows that the Cu bismuthate nanosheets are composed of tetragonal CuBi 2 O 4 phase. Electron microscopy observations indicate that the Cu bismuthate nanosheets have the polycrystalline structure with the thickness of about 50 nm and width of 300 nm-2 μm. The morphological and structural evolution of the products have been analyzed by controlling the hydrothermal temperature and reaction time. The Cu bismuthate nanosheets modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is used to investigate the electrochemical performance for the detection of tartaric acid in 0.1 M KCl electrolyte. A pair of semi-reversible CV peaks are located at −0.45 V and −0.02 V at the Cu bismuthate nanosheets modified GCE in 2 mM tartaric acid. The calculated detection limit is 1.6 μM at the signal to noise ratio of 3 with tartaric acid concentration of 0.005–2 mM. The nanosheets modified GCE shows good application promising for the electrochemical detection of biological molecules.

An efficient conversion of biomass-derived cyclohexanone to cyclohexanol by in situ-formed hydrogen over Cu catalyst under hydrothermal conditions was reported at first. Among the catalysts tested, Cu exhibited high catalytic activity for the conversion of cyclohexanone, and the highest yield of 100% was obtained when Zn acted as reductant. The experiment was carried out by using gaseous hydrogen as the external hydrogen source indicated that the yield of 75.1% was lower than in situ-formed hydrogen by oxidation of Zn in water. The present study provides an efficient route by environmentally benign, commercially available Cu powder as a catalyst for cyclohexanone conversion to cyclohexanol.

Ammonia (NH 3 ) is one of the important chemicals in human society. Conversion of air and water to NH 3 by plasma treatment and electrocatalytic reduction is a prospective approach. Herein, a self-supported CuCo/Cu nanowires (NWs) catalyst is prepared through simple electrochemical methods, achieving exceptional eNO x - RR performance: 99.8% Faradaic efficiency and 230.3 mg h -1 cm -2 NH 3 yield rate at -0.7 V vs. RHE in 1 M NaOH with 0.2 M NO x - . The 3D NWs architecture provides abundant exposed active sites, significantly improving the catalyst's NO x - reduction activity. Besides, the introduction of Co modulates the electronic structure of Cu while serving as a complementary site for active hydrogen (*H) supply, thereby synergistically promoting the eNO x - RR process. Finally, CuCo/Cu NWs serve as a bifunctional catalyst coupled with the anodic hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR) instead of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), effectively reducing the energy consumption of the eNO x - RR system and achieving a greener and energy conservation route for the synthesis of NH 3 .

Copper-based catalysts offer promise for CO 2 -to-C 2+ conversion but suffer from instability of Cu + species, which are active sites critical for enabling C−C coupling. In this work, we synthesized Lanthanum (La)-doped Cu x O (La-Cu x O) catalysts with varying La/Cu ratios to investigate how the interplay between doping-induced electronic effects and grain boundary (GB)-driven stabilization affects deep CO 2 reduction to C 2+ . Combined density functional theory calculations and in situ spectroscopic characterization reveal that the unique 4f orbital configuration and strong Lewis acidity facilitate charge transfer of La, stabilizing Cu + during CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR), while simultaneously inducing lattice distortion to increase GB density. This modulation preserves Cu + /Cu 0 interfaces while enhancing *CO dimerization kinetics. Furthermore, La doping boosts *CO coverage at GB-rich regions and lowers the C−C coupling barrier. The optimized La-Cu x O-2 catalyst (La/Cu = 0.224) achieves a 45.2% C 2 H 4 Faradaic efficiency (FE) and 75.4% C 2+ FE at −0.8 V RHE , with partial current densities of 87.5 and 146.7 mA cm −2 , respectively, surpassing undoped Cu x O. Remarkably, it retains more than 90% initial activity after 24 h operation, demonstrating exceptional stability. This work provides a rational strategy for stabilizing Cu + and tailoring pathways via rare-earth doping. Graphical La doping stabilizes Cu + /Cu 0 interfaces via electronic modulation and lattice distortion, enhancing grain boundary density in Cu x O catalysts for efficient CO 2 electroreduction. The optimized La-Cu x O-2 achieves 75.4% C 2+ Faradaic efficiency and 146.7 mA cm −2 partial current density at −0.8 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, suppressing hydrogen evolution and enabling scalable CO 2 -to-C 2+ conversion.

The afterburning effect of aluminized explosives makes them have strong damage ability to soft targets, but the aluminum particles in the composition often cannot achieve proper combustion. The high ignition temperature of micron aluminum powder is one of the main reasons. In this work, we introduce nanothermite reaction with low onset temperature (<660 °C) into aluminized explosives by replacing the base explosives with energetic coordination polymers (ECPs). The decomposition products of many ECPs contain corresponding metal oxides that will react with aluminum via thermite reaction. Three kinds of ECPs ([CoC 2 H 4 N 8 O 4 ] n , [NiC 2 H 4 N 8 O 4 ] n and [CuC 2 H 4 N 8 O 4 ] n ) are constructed and compounded with nano-aluminum (nano-Al) particles to form aluminized ECPs. The influence of metal ion species and Al/Metal (Al/Me) molar ratio on their energetic properties are systematically studied. The results show that the exothermic thermite reaction with low onset temperature plays an important role in the combustion propagation of aluminized ECPs, and the possible mechanism is proposed. When the Al/Me molar ratio is 3–4, the aluminized ECPs have the best peak pressure and pressurization rate. At the optimum molar ratio, the pressure and pressurization rate of aluminized ECP(Co) are much higher than those of aluminized ECP(Ni) and ECP(Cu). Among the three kinds of aluminized ECPs, the aluminized ECP(Co) has the best energetic characteristics and can be used as a preferred choice. However, for the applications that require a long-time heat supply, aluminized ECP(Cu) will be suitable.
