The development of highly active and durable catalysts for the acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is urgently needed to accelerate reaction kinetics and reduce energy barriers. Herein, we propose to tune the local electronic structure in RuO 2 via yttrium ion (Y 3+ ) doping to facilitate the OER process following oxide path mechanism (OPM). The electron-deficient of Y 3+ redistributes local charge density, strengthens metal–oxygen bonds to suppress lattice degradation. Moreover, the incorporation of larger Y 3+ radius reduce the Ru–Ru distance, and thereby benefits O–O coupling. The optimized Y 0.11 Ru 0.89 O 2−δ catalyst exhibits an exceptionally low overpotential of 195 mV at 10 mA cm −2 for acidic OER and operates stably for 250 h at 100 mA cm −2 in a PEM electrolyzer. Theoretical investigations reveal that Y–O–Ru structure effectively modifies the chemical environment and optimizes the atomic configuration of active sites. This study establishes electron-deficient, large-radius dopants as an effective strategy for designing efficient and durable acidic OER catalysts, enhancing RuO 2 performance.

Solid electrolytes offer a transformative solution to the safety challenges that have long hindered conventional lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which rely on organic liquid electrolytes. Among them, hydride-based materials such as LiBH 4 stand out due to their exceptional electrochemical stability and strong compatibility with anode materials. However, their inherently poor ionic conductivity at room temperature (RT, ~10 −8 S cm −1 ) remains a critical bottleneck, primarily attributed to the rigid crystalline framework of hydride structures, which impedes lithium-ion diffusion. In this study, we overcome this limitation by introducing defective hexagonal boron nitride (d-BN) and iodine solutes into a LiBH 4 matrix.(i.e. Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/2(d-BN)) This strategic integration induces structural deformation in the BH 4 tetrahedra, creating optimized pathways for enhanced lithium-ion transport. As a result, the composite achieves an impressive ionic conductivity of 5.9 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at 40 °C and 4.0 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at 25 °C, approaching the conductivity requirement for the commercialization of solid-state electrolyte batteries (10 −3 S cm −1 ), positioning this material among the highest-performing solid hydride electrolytes to date. Mechanistic insights from density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed that iodine and BN incorporation weakens Li B interactions, extends Li H bond lengths, and reduces the energy barrier for Li-ions migration. In addition, this gain in conductivity is accompanied by a strong cycling performance (The capacity retention rate of the optimized TiS 2 |Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/2d-BN|Li battery exceeds 86 % after 30 charge-discharge cycles at 0.1C). These findings highlight the promise of Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/d-BN composites as efficient solid-state electrolytes for next-generation energy storage applications.

This study developed a novel strategy to prepare deacetylated mannosylerythritol lipids (MEL-D), which can disrupt cell membranes, from fermented MELs to address the challenge of inhibiting drug-resistant bacteria. Approximately 45 % of MEL-D with a purity exceeding 98 % can be obtained through acid hydrolysis of crude MELs and an integrated separation and purification process. The resulting MEL-D exhibited superior antibacterial activities compared to crude MELs against Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) ranging from 32 to 64 mg/L. This effective antibacterial action arises from its ability to disrupt cell membranes and biofilms. However, MEL-D demonstrated weaker antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), with an MIC as high as 512 mg/L. When combined with antibiotics, MEL-D significantly enhanced antibacterial activity and reduced the required dosage, exhibiting strong synergy with conventional antibiotics, as evidenced by FICI values in the range of 0.25–0.5. Moreover, this strategy demonstrates a favorable synergy profile when combined with antibiotics, which significantly mitigates the cytotoxicity associated with MEL-D monotherapy.

Background: Rutin (R) is a bioactive compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but its low bioavailability limits its application. To address this problem, R was encapsulated with whey protein (W) as nanoparticles, and the potential effect and mechanism of rutin–whey protein nanoparticles (RW) on skeletal muscle dysfunction was investigated in D-galactose induced mice. Methods: R was encapsulated with W to form RW, and its characteristics like particle size, encapsulation efficiency, and bioaccessibility were evaluated. In the in vivo study, male C57BL/6J mice were treated with R, W or RW, respectively. The muscle function, hepatic antioxidant capacity, serum inflammatory levels, gut microbiota, and metabolomic profiles of mice were evaluated. Results: RW showed a uniform particle size, with an encapsulation efficiency of 68.7%. In the RW, the bioaccessibility of rutin was approximately 3.3 times that of free rutin. This in vivo study indicated that in comparison with D-galactose induced mice (model group), R, W and RW treatments could enhance hepatic antioxidative capacity and regulate inflammation levels, while W and RW could also increase muscle strength. Among these, RW treatment significantly elevated the hepatic GSH-PX activity and decreased the serum MSTN, TNF-α, and IL-6 levels, which were all markedly better than those of the individual effect of R or W. Such effects of R, W, and RW may be achieved through the modulation of gut microbiota that produced short-chain fatty acids or involved in anti-inflammatory function and the regulation of metabolic profiles associated with amino acid metabolism, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, etc. Conclusions: RW was found to enhance the bioaccessibility of rutin, and exhibited positive effects on skeletal muscle dysfunction via the modulation of gut microbiota and metabolic pathways. The results of this study may provide new scientific strategy for the utilization of rutin to achieve its health benefits.

The thermodynamic effect of octyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (OGP) on the formation of methane-1,3-dimethylcyclohexane (DMCH) hydrate was studied in this work. The thermodynamic equilibrium hydrate formation pressures between 275.15 K and 283.15 K were measured by the isothermal pressure search method. Different OGP aqueous solutions (0, 0.1, and 1 wt%) were used in this work. The experimental results show that OGP had no obvious thermodynamic inhibition on methane-DMCH hydrate formation when its concentration was low (0.1 wt%), whereas it had an inhibition on methane-DMCH hydrate formation when its concentration was high (1 wt%). The phase equilibrium hydrate formation pressure of the methane-DMCH-OGP system is about 0.1 MPa higher than that of the methane-DMCH system. The dissociation enthalpies of methane hydrate in different solutions remained uniform, which indicates that OGP was not involved in methane-DMCH hydrate formation. This phenomenon is explained from the perspective of the molecular structure of OGP. As a renewable and biological nonionic surfactant, the concentration of OGP in the liquid phase is low, so OGP can be added to the methane-DMCH system without significant thermodynamic inhibition.

The recognition of amino acid enantiomers is of great significance in drug research and disease diagnosis. However, the similar physical and chemical properties of enantiomers make chiral recognition challenging. Optical characterization is a promising approach to distinguish enantiomers. Carbon dots (CDs) have attracted widespread attention due to their simple synthesis, high economic benefits, and good biocompatibility. Chiral carbon dots, as fluorescent probes, have gradually received more attraction. Here, a fluorescence probe (CYS-CDs + Cu 2+ ) was constructed using D-Cys as chiral source to synthesize chiral carbon dots (CYS-CDs), and Cu 2+ as inducer to recognize the chirality of lysine enantiomers(L-/D-Lys). And then, based on the ability of Cu 2+ to quench the fluorescence of CYS-CDs and L-Lysine (L-Lys) could restore the fluorescence of the CYS-CDs + Cu 2+ probe, so achieve an “on–off-on” detection mode to detect L-Lys. On the contrary, D-Lys cannot restore the fluorescence of CYS-CDs + Cu 2+ . The probe can distinguish lysine enantiomers not only by fluorescence spectra but also by circular dichroism spectra. And, the probe can be used for the quantitative detection of L-Lys by fluorescence method, of which the detection range is 0–520 μM, and the limit of detection is only 13.70 μM. In addition, a paper-based fluorescent senor was constructed on this basis. This work may be of practical significance to expand the recognition method of amino acid enantiomers.

A novel targeting drug delivery system containing poly(styrene-alt-maleic anhydride) 58 -b-polystyrene 130 (P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 ) as a copolymer backbone, N -acetyl glucosamine (NAG) as a targeting moiety was designed and synthesized. The NAG grafted copolymer (NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 ) was characterized by FTIR and 1 H NMR. The NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles exhibited spherical shapes with an average diameter about 56.27 ± 0.43 nm, low critical micelle concentration of 0.028 mg/mL, negative zeta potential −41.46 ± 0.99 mV, high drug loading 25.83 ± 1.09% and encapsulation efficiency 69.69 ± 3.98%. In vitro cell cytotoxicity was conducted to confirm the safety of the NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and flow cytometry (FCM) results showed that the NAG targeting moiety enhanced the internalization and targeting ability of NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles. Anticancer activity toward MCF-7 cells and HT29 cells showed that DOX-loaded NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles exhibited a higher antitumor activity compared to DOX-loaded P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles, which could attribute to NAG receptor-mediated endocytosis. These results suggest that the biocompatible and non-toxic NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles may be used as an effective targeting drug delivery system for cancer therapy.

CagA is a significant oncogenic factor injected into host cells by Helicobacter pylori, which is divided into two subtypes: East Asian type (CagAE), characterized by the EPIYA-D motif, and western type (CagAW), harboring the EPIYA-C motif. CagAE has been reported to have higher carcinogenicity than CagAW, although the underlying reason is not fully understood. SHIP2 is an intracellular phosphatase that can be recruited by CagA to perturb the homeostasis of intracellular signaling pathways. In this study, we found that SHIP2 contributes to the higher oncogenicity of CagAE. Co-Immunoprecipitation and Pull-down assays showed that CagAE bind more SHIP2 than CagAW. Immunofluorescence staining showed that a higher amount of SHIP2 recruited by CagAE to the plasma membrane catalyzes the conversion of PI(3,4,5)P3 into PI(3,4)P2. This alteration causes higher activation of Akt signaling, which results in enhanced IL-8 secretion, migration, and invasion of the infected cells. SPR analysis showed that this stronger interaction between CagAE and SHIP2 stems from the higher affinity between the EPIYA-D motif of CagAE and the SH2 domain of SHIP2. Structural analysis revealed the crucial role of the Phe residue at the Y + 5 position in EPIYA-D. After mutating Phe of CagAE into Asp (the corresponding residue in the EPIYA-C motif) or Ala, the activation of downstream Akt signaling was reduced and the malignant transformation of infected cells was alleviated. These findings revealed that CagAE hijacks SHIP2 through its EPIYA-D motif to enhance its carcinogenicity, which provides a better understanding of the higher oncogenic risk of H. pylori CagAE.

The shuttle effect and sluggish redox kinetics of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) are generally regarded as main obstacles to practical applications of the promising high energy density lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Using electrocatalysts to expedite LiPSs conversion during charge/discharge has recently become an effective approach to improving LSB performance, but developing highly efficient catalysts active for bidirectional LiPSs conversion both involving multiple electron transfer steps remains a great challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of a new composite electrocatalyst consisting of bimetallic nickel/cobalt metal–organic frameworks (Ni/Co-MOF) anchored on highly dispersed amino-modified MXene (Ti 3 C 2 -NH 2 , i.e., TCN) supports through a simple one-step hydrothermal method. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that incorporating both Ni and Co species into MOF results in significant electronic coupling effect, making the d-band centers of Ni and Co sites in Ni/Co-MOF@TCN become comparable and the composite catalyst shows similar adsorption and dissociation capability toward LiPSs. Such a synergy between Ni and Co sites has been validated by comprehensive experimental characterization, which confirms that Ni/Co-MOF@TCN has moderate binding strength for LiPSs adsorption/dissociation, so that both Ni and Co can effectively boost the kinetics and thermodynamics of the bidirectional conversion of LiPSs. Consequently, LSBs containing Ni/Co-MOF@TCN as sulfur hosts exhibit a high specific capacity of 1465 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C and excellent stability at 1 C for 600 cycles with a low decay rate of 0.052 % per cycle. Even with a high sulfur loading of 6.8 mg cm −2 and a low electrolyte/sulfur (E/S) ratio of only 5 μL mg −1 , the Ni/Co-MOF@TCN-containing LSBs can still deliver an initial areal capacity of 6.81 mAh cm −2 at 0.1 C. Moreover, Ni/Co-MOF@TCN also shows outstanding performance in single-layer Li-S pouch cells.

Directional and smooth transfer of charges across the interface is pivotal for heterojunction materials in terms of photochemical activity. However, large lattice mismatch and disordered interface inevitably exist in actual-prepared heterojunctions and bring great uncertainty in interfacial charge migration. Herein, an ingenious strategy with photoinduced metastable-charging d-orbital electrons of Re centers at the interface of ReS2/ZnIn2S4 (ReS2/ZIS) is clarified. This metastable interfacial electronic state is involved in creation of gradient charge migration channels. The charging process raises the occupancy of electron density, which provides large difference of electronic potential for the subsequent charge migration to ReS2. This gradient charge migration significantly accelerates the mobility and the electron injection rate at the interface, which achieves the 6.2-fold and 7.7-fold improvement. Consequently, the optimized 10% ReS2/ZIS composite exhibits the conversion rate for photocatalytic oxidation amine of 22.84 mmol·gcat−1 ·h−1, which is the highest efficiency achieved so far for photocatalytic amines oxidation coupling upon ReS2-based composites. This research furnishes original insights for charging orbital electrons to steer kinetics process of charge transfer and shed light on the design of advanced heterojunction materials for efficient solar energy conversion.

Wood, as a widely available renewable resource, was extensively used in many fields. Utilizing its abundant hydroxyl groups of surface and unique hierarchical pore structure, N -methyl-D-glucosamine (NMDG), a functional monomer with unique chelation properties towards boric acid/borate, was grafted onto its surface after modification, successfully preparing the NMDG-modified wood-based functional material (Wood-NMDG). When this material was applied for boron adsorption in aqueous, research found that both solution pH and boron concentration significantly affected its adsorption performance. Studies on its adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms and thermodynamics revealed that the material possessed excellent adsorption capacity and rapid adsorption kinetics. After adsorption with salt lake brine, it demonstrated outstanding specificity and selectivity. Dynamic adsorption studies using simulated seawater yielded a breakthrough time of 42 hours. Based on the World Health Organization standard for boron concentration in drinking water, its capacity for treating seawater into drinking water reached 2520 L·kg –1 . However, cycling experiments indicated a certain degree of decrease in the adsorption properties of the material. Nevertheless, considering the abundant availability, low cost, and ease of modification of wood as a raw material, Wood-NMDG held broad application prospects as an efficient removal agent for seawater desalination, drinking water production and irrigation water treatment.

The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of matrine (MAT) on D-galactose- (D-gal-) induced aging and relative mechanism. Vitamin E at the dose of 100 mg/kg was used as a standard positive control. MAT significantly improved the D-gal-induced recognition and spatial memory impairment in novel object recognition and Y maze tests, and exercise endurance decreased in the weight-loaded swimming test at 2 and 10 mg/kg. We found that D-gal treatment induced noticeably aging-related changes such as reducing thymus coefficients, increasing the pathological injury and cellular senescence of liver, spleen, and hippocampus, as well as an increase in cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p16, p19, and p21 gene expression and the interleukin-1β expression in the liver and hippocampus. MAT showed effective protection on such changes. Furthermore, MAT decreased the oxidative stress of the liver, plasma, and brain, as evidenced by increased total antioxidant capacity, total superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities and decreased the malondialdehyde level. Additionally, there was a significant positive correlation between swimming time in weight-loaded swimming time and thymus index. MAT ameliorated aging-related disorder caused by D-gal through the inhibition of both cellular senescence and oxidative stress. The study provides further evidence for drug development of MAT for prevention or treatment of the aging-associated disorder.
