Defect-engineered Cu–TCPP/ZIF-L nanosheet membrane: tannic acid coordinates with Cu 2+ to create defect sites, while ZIF-L serves as an interlayer spacer to suppress π–π stacking and restore transport. • The optimized membrane achieves 691.20 L·m -2 ·h -1 ·bar -1 , a 75.5× increase over pristine Cu–TCPP. • Efficient dye removal under static conditions: 97.77% (CV) and 97.87% (MG), suitable for agricultural water purification. • Adsorption–degradation self-cleaning via single-layer chemisorption/ion exchange and catalytic oxidation by O₂· - / 1 O₂; cucumber seedling tests confirm irrigation safety. Dye-laden wastewater from aquaculture and agricultural runoff poses serious environmental challenges, calling for membranes that can deliver both high water flux and efficient dye removal. However, MOF-based composite membranes often still face trade-offs between permeance and separation efficiency, and their practical performance is limited by fouling and insufficient self-regeneration. We hypothesize that defect engineering of Cu–TCPP via tannic-acid-mediated metal–phenolic network (MPN) disruption, together with ZIF-L nanosheet interlayer modulation, can create favorable transport pathways and strengthen adsorption/ion-exchange interactions while enabling ROS-driven self-cleaning. A defect-engineered Cu–TCPP/ZIF-L nanosheet-modified PVDF membrane was prepared using an MPN strategy with tannic acid, and its dye removal performance toward malachite green and crystal violet, together with the underlying mechanisms, was systematically investigated. The optimized membrane achieves a 75.5-fold increase in water permeance to 691.20 L/(m 2 ·h·bar) while maintaining high removal efficiencies of 97.87% for malachite green and 97.77% for crystal violet, and it exhibits self-cleaning behavior enabled by superoxide radicals and singlet oxygen. This work demonstrates an integrated Cu-TCPP–TA/ZIF-L/PVDF membrane design that combines MPN-mediated defect regulation with ZIF-L-assisted lamellar structure modulation for adsorption–degradation-based dye removal in agricultural water-related scenarios. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) has emerged as a prominent ultrafiltration (UF) membrane material owing to its exceptional chemical resistance, superior mechanical strength, and remarkable thermal stability. Nevertheless, its widespread application is constrained by inherent limitations, notably its pronounced hydrophobicity and suboptimal anti-fouling performance. In this work, we introduced an innovative approach combining physical co-deposition and bridging grafting technique to fabricate supramolecular hydroxyl bundles on PVDF membrane surface, thereby enhancing both hydrophilicity and anti-fouling performance. The PVDF/styrene-co-maleic anhydride (SMA)-g-polyethylene glycol (PEG)-g-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) membrane was prepared through our novel grafting approach. We systematically investigated the formation and evolution of the grafted membrane surface, focusing on chemical structure and surface morphology at varying concentrations. Our results demonstrated that this method significantly improved membrane hydrophilicity, consequently enhancing its anti-fouling performance. Furthermore, we examined the correlation between membrane surface morphology and its permeability and anti-fouling performance. The implementation of the supramolecular hydroxyl bundle isolation layer (SHBIL) has shown remarkable improvements in anti-fouling performance, achieving a bovine serum albumin (BSA) rejection rate exceeding 97% at an optimal PVA concentration of 8%. This research provides valuable insights into the hydrophilic modification of PVDF membrane with superior anti-fouling performance and presents a novel perspective for understanding the underlying anti-fouling mechanism.

To efficiently treat dyeing wastewater, this study adopted an innovative method to prepare MXene nanocomposite nanofiltration membranes, with a focus on investigating the performance of the PVDF/EAA/MXene nanofiltration (C-3) composite membrane treated via interfacial polymerization. The results indicated that the C-3 membrane possesses both excellent surface properties and separation performance: its pure water permeability reaches 27.36 L m−2 h−1, the rejection rate for bovine serum albumin (BSA) is 94.23%, and the rejection rates for Congo red and methylene blue dyes are as high as 99.43% and 99.81%, respectively. Meanwhile, the membrane exhibits outstanding anti-fouling capability, with a flux recovery rate (FRR) of 88.5% and a total fouling rate (DRt) of 19.21%. Furthermore, long-term stability tests (conducted 10 times repeatedly over 10 days) showed that the membrane demonstrates excellent filtration performance and stability in retaining BSA, Congo red, and methylene blue.

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-poly(methyl methacrylate) 8 (POSS-PMMA 8 )/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hybrid gel polymer electrolyte (HGPE) membranes have been fabricated by using electrospinning along with the use of commercial polypropylene (PP) microporous membranes as its support; the corresponding HGPEs were obtained after being activated into liquid electrolytes. The goal of the study is to incorporate the high mechanical property of microporous PP membrane and superior electrochemical performance of electrospun gel polymer electrolyte to get the high-performance electrolyte for Li-ion battery. As an effective modifier, it is found that the introduction of POSS-polymer plays a vital role in enhancing many properties of HGPEs, and the influence of POSS-(PMMA 46 ) 8 content on overall properties of HGPEs is investigated. In specific, the HGPEs membrane with 12 wt% POSS-(PMMA 46 ) 8 displays a significant uniform fiber diameter with 720 nm and high electrolyte uptake of 322% due to the high porosity of 58%. Meanwhile, a great improvement in mechanical property is obtained with a tensile strength of 34.5 MPa, which is about 7 times of POSS-(PMMA 46 ) 8 /PVDF membrane without support. The interfacial resistance between the corresponding HGPEs and Li electrodes is significantly reduced and as low as 138 Ω. Furthermore, the LiFePO 4 /HGPEs/Li button cell is assembled and excellent cyclability is shown at 0.1 C and 0.5 C, respectively. The results demonstrate that POSS-(PMMA 46 ) 8 /PVDF HGPEs could be applied as a promising HGPE candidate for high-performance Li-ion batteries.

Flexible low-grade waste heat generators are a promising device that can both recycle thermal energy and exhibit elasticity, are light weight, and have easily customized shapes. However, most thermal energy recovery technologies only work at large temperature gradients. Herein, a dynamic generator based on liquid crystal network (LCN) and poly(vinylidenedifluoride–trifluoroethylene) (PVDF–TrFE) is reported. The generator can operate in a temperature of ≈30 °C with a temperature difference of 6 K. LCN expands and shrinks in the temperature fluctuation, which is beneficial for PVDF–TrFE exposure to greater temperature changes. The device is found to exhibit a maximum output voltage of ≈4.5 mV based on pyroelectric and piezoelectric effect. This simple strategy may broaden applications of liquid crystalline actuators for harvesting low-grade waste heat.

In this study, NH2-MIL-101(Fe)/WO3 heterojunctions were prepared by solvothermal method and then incorporated into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes via phase inversion method to fabricate recyclable photocatalytic membranes with high degradation performance. The SEM and XRD characterization results indicated that NH2-MIL-101(Fe) and WO3 were physically combined. Using MB as the target pollutant, the membrane with 30 mg of Tungsten trioxide(WO 3 ) doping exhibited optimal degradation performance, achieving complete MB degradation within 100 min and a TOC removal rate of 85 %. During the degradation process, superoxide radicals (·O 2 − ), hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and photogenerated holes (h⁺), played a major role. The results of UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra showed that the incorporation of WO 3 effectively suppressed the recombination of electron-hole pairs and enhanced visible light absorption, thereby improving the photocatalytic activity. Transient photocurrent response (i-t) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests further demonstrated that the composite photocatalyst with 30 mg of WO 3 exhibited the highest photocurrent density and the lowest charge transfer resistance. Degradation cycling experiments revealed that after four cycles of degradation, the PVDF photocatalytic membrane maintained high photocatalytic activity for MB. This study suggests that the combination of NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe)/WO 3 and PVDF membranes provides a promising new approach for exploring wastewater treatment solutions.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) are usually considered ideal materials for oil–water separation due to their excellent chemical stability, thermal resistance, and hydrophobicity. However, PTFE exhibits poor spinnability in both solution and melt spinning, whereas the fabrication of PVDF fibers typically relies on toxic solvents. To overcome these limitations, a superhydrophobic porous micro/nanofibrous membrane was developed in this work. Specifically, precursor fibers were first prepared by centrifugal spinning using native cassava starch and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as carrier components together with PTFE and PVDF emulsions. Subsequently, fibers with porous structures were obtained by exploiting the different melting temperatures of PTFE and PVDF during sintering. The morphology, structure, thermal stability, and wetting properties were systematically investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements, revealing that the optimal membrane featured a uniformly interconnected porous network with an average fiber diameter of 1.09 ± 0.02 μm. The resulting blend fibrous membrane exhibits excellent superhydrophobicity (water contact angle reaching 154°) and a high oil flux (8500 L/m 2 h). This approach effectively integrates the low surface energy of PTFE with the favorable processability of PVDF, offering a novel design strategy for the fabrication of high-performance oil–water separation membranes. Highlights Porous PTFE/PVDF fibrous membranes were fabricated by centrifugal spinning. The optimized membrane reached a water contact angle of 154°. The membrane achieved an oil flux of 8500 L/m 2 h in oil–water separation. Cassava starch acted as a low-cost green pore-forming template.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based polymer electrolytes are promising candidates for lithium-ion batteries due to their high ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical stability window, and ease of processing. However, PVDF chain scission during cycling often leads to battery failure. This study introduces a straightforward strategy for modifying PVDF using potassium oxalate (K 2 C 2 O 4 ). The resulting composite gel polymer electrolyte (CGPEK-X) facilitates the pre-formation of LiF, which enhances lithium-ion conductivity and promotes uniform lithium deposition. Moreover, the improved mechanical integrity of the composite effectively suppresses lithium dendrite growth. When integrated into LiFePO 4 /Li cells, the optimized K 2 C 2 O 4 -doped system demonstrates stable cycling over 200 cycles at room temperature, achieving a discharge capacity of 120.3 mAh g −1 at 1°C. This work presents a novel approach to engineering PVDF-based electrolytes with balanced mechanical and electrochemical properties, offering valuable insights for the development of high-performance lithium-polymer batteries.

With polycarbonate (PC)/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) co-continuous matrix as the substrate, composite transparent conductive films with excellent conductive properties were prepared by melt blending and rod coating method. After a surface sulfonation, the conductivity of PVDF films embedded with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) decreased by three quarters. An ethylene glycol (EG) activated poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) layer was coated on PC/PVDF/MWCNTs to form a continuous and smooth surface, and its conductivity was increased by EG-induced phase separation. Owing to the excellent mechanical strength of PC and the toughing capacity of MWCNTs, the tensile strength of thin PC/PVDF/MWCNTs/PEDOT:PSS film attained 57.49 MPa, almost 3 times that of PVDF. The polymer-polymer or polymer-carbon tubes interaction featured as hydrogen bonding enhance the polarization of PVDF and phase separation of PEDOT:PSS. Meanwhile, sulfonated surface intensified this interaction and improved the lamellar compatibility. The increased PVDF β -phase, the PEDOT:PSS after a thorough phase separation and the well-dispersed carbon tubes all contributed to the densification of the matrix and the homogenized and continuous carrier-transferring property of the composite structure. Exhibiting a transparency surpassing 65%, PC/PVDF/MWCNTs/PEDOT:PSS film possesses a low surface resistivity (33.13 Ω/□). Moreover, owing to well dispersity of components and intensified interfacial bonding, a homogenous conductivity performance can be expected.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with hollow nanochannels have attracted much attention in preparing high-performance water treatment membranes. In this paper, the grafting polymer chains, including alkynyl terminated poly(methyl methacrylate) methacrylate (PMMA) single chain and PMMA-b-poly (ethylene glycol) methacrylate [P(PEGMA)] diblock molecular chains, were synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. A UV-induced click reaction was used to graft different linear polymers onto the surface of magnetic thiol-functionalized carbon nanotubes (mCNTs-SH). The poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composite ultrafiltration membrane within the oriented nanochannels was prepared using phase inversion and magnetic field orientation. TEM and XRD results confirmed that the magnetic carbon nanotubes grafted with a diblock molecular chain had good nano-dispersion and orientation array effects in PVDF composite ultrafiltration membrane. The water contact angle of the array mCNT-g-diblock molecular chain-based composite membrane was 48.5°, significantly enhancing the PEGMA chain segments. The composite membrane with CTNs’ nanochannels attained a higher water flux. As the diblock molecular chain grafted mCNTs oriented in the membrane, the water flux reached 17.6 LMH (five times greater than the pure PVDF membrane), while the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) for PEG1400 rejection could reach higher than 80%.Keywords:polyvinylidene fluoride ultrafiltration membrane;grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs);nanochannel;block polymers;RAFT polymerization

The construction of high-performance MOF-based hollow fiber composite membrane (HFCM) modules is a significant, yet challenging task for the biofuel production industry. In this study, a novel approach was taken to fabricate PDMS@ZIF-8/PVDF HFCMs in modules through a facile ZIF-8 self-crystallization synthesis followed by pressure-assisted PDMS infusion for pervaporation ethanol-water separation. The as-prepared HFCMs exhibited an ultrathin separation layer (thickness, 370 ± 35 nm), which was achieved through precise regulation of the ZIF-8 membrane and defect repair by PDMS infusion. Moreover, the strategy utilized in this study resolved the defect issues arising from MOF agglomeration in conventional composite membranes. Impressively, at the optimal packing density, the prepared membrane demonstrated a remarkable ethanol flux (1.11 kg m −2 h −1 ) with an PSI value (26.59 kg m −2 h −1 ) and showed promising long-term stability for the pervaporation of 5 wt% ethanol aqueous solution at 40°C.

Dopamine was used to modify polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in order to obtain functional polydopamine (PDA) surface-modified PTFE microporous film (PTFE@PDA). Ag was deposited on the surface of PTFE@PDA using electroless plating in order to obtain Ag-wrapped PTFE@PDA film (PTFE@Ag). A liquid-phase chemical reduction method was employed to prepare nickel nanochains. A Ni@PVDF cast film was obtained by mechanically blended nickel nanochains and polyimide (PVDF). The above two films were hot pressed to give a flexible, ultra-thin, and highly effective electromagnetic shielding composite film with a “3+2” layered structure. IR, XRD, and TEM results showed the PTFE@PDA film surface was coated by a tight plating layer of Ag particles with a particle size of 100~200 nm. PTFE@Ag+Ni@PVDF composite film exhibited excellent electromagnetic shielding effectiveness, with the conductivity of 7507.5 S/cm and the shielding effectiveness of 69.03 dB in the X-band range. After a 2000-cycle bending, this value still remained at 51.90 dB. Furthermore, the composite film presented excellent tensile strength of 62.1 MPa. It has great potential for applications in flexible and wearable intelligent devices. Keywords:electromagnetic shielding;Ag;PTFE;composite film
