Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) are usually considered ideal materials for oil–water separation due to their excellent chemical stability, thermal resistance, and hydrophobicity. However, PTFE exhibits poor spinnability in both solution and melt spinning, whereas the fabrication of PVDF fibers typically relies on toxic solvents. To overcome these limitations, a superhydrophobic porous micro/nanofibrous membrane was developed in this work. Specifically, precursor fibers were first prepared by centrifugal spinning using native cassava starch and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as carrier components together with PTFE and PVDF emulsions. Subsequently, fibers with porous structures were obtained by exploiting the different melting temperatures of PTFE and PVDF during sintering. The morphology, structure, thermal stability, and wetting properties were systematically investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements, revealing that the optimal membrane featured a uniformly interconnected porous network with an average fiber diameter of 1.09 ± 0.02 μm. The resulting blend fibrous membrane exhibits excellent superhydrophobicity (water contact angle reaching 154°) and a high oil flux (8500 L/m 2 h). This approach effectively integrates the low surface energy of PTFE with the favorable processability of PVDF, offering a novel design strategy for the fabrication of high-performance oil–water separation membranes. Highlights Porous PTFE/PVDF fibrous membranes were fabricated by centrifugal spinning. The optimized membrane reached a water contact angle of 154°. The membrane achieved an oil flux of 8500 L/m 2 h in oil–water separation. Cassava starch acted as a low-cost green pore-forming template.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based polymer electrolytes are promising candidates for lithium-ion batteries due to their high ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical stability window, and ease of processing. However, PVDF chain scission during cycling often leads to battery failure. This study introduces a straightforward strategy for modifying PVDF using potassium oxalate (K 2 C 2 O 4 ). The resulting composite gel polymer electrolyte (CGPEK-X) facilitates the pre-formation of LiF, which enhances lithium-ion conductivity and promotes uniform lithium deposition. Moreover, the improved mechanical integrity of the composite effectively suppresses lithium dendrite growth. When integrated into LiFePO 4 /Li cells, the optimized K 2 C 2 O 4 -doped system demonstrates stable cycling over 200 cycles at room temperature, achieving a discharge capacity of 120.3 mAh g −1 at 1°C. This work presents a novel approach to engineering PVDF-based electrolytes with balanced mechanical and electrochemical properties, offering valuable insights for the development of high-performance lithium-polymer batteries.

Precise free volume regulation suppresses charge migration, doubling breakdown strength. • PVDF/PMMA blend films achieve a significant leap in energy storage density. • Free volume studied via positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) and simulation. Five series of PVDF/PMMA blend films were fabricated, and their energy storage performance was investigated via experimental and theoretical analyses of free volume characteristics. PMMA incorporation significantly enhances thermal stability of blend film. For instance, with 50 wt % PMMA, the glass transition temperature ( T g ) rises to 117.2 °C, much higher than that of pure PVDF (−45.2 °C). Increasing PMMA content decreases free volume size but increases its relative fraction, thereby enhancing breakdown strength and reducing material density. Although a moderate reduction in dielectric constant is observed, the marked improvement in breakdown strength leads to an overall increase in energy storage density. Specifically, at 40 wt % PMMA, the blend film achieves a maximum energy storage density of 8.13 J/cm 3 ( ƞ = 67%), substantially exceeding the 3.01 J/cm 3 ( ƞ = 67%) of pure PVDF, while exhibiting a high T g of 105.1 °C. These results highlight a synergistic effect derived from the complementary properties of the two polymers, offering an effective strategy for developing high-performance polymer-based energy storage films that combine the advantages of dipolar and linear dielectric materials.

The ubiquitous presence of emerging contaminants (ECs) such as antibiotics and synthetic dyes in aquatic systems necessitates advanced remediation technologies. However, conventional polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes often suffer from severe fouling and rapid flux decline due to their inherent hydrophobicity, severely limiting their long-term applicability. This study presents the rational design of Ti-MOF/CN/PVDF composite membranes via integrated solvothermal synthesis of Ti-MOF/g-C 3 N 4 (CN) heterojunctions and nanoparticle-regulated phase inversion. Comprehensive characterization (XRD, XPS, SEM-EDS, BET, AFM) confirmed the successful fabrication of the heterojunction membrane. XPS and XRD analyses confirmed the formation of covalent bonds at the (Ti-O-N) interface and lattice strain induced by the nanoparticle filler, effectively suppressing PVDF crystallization. Ti-MOF/CN exhibits a unimodal particle size distribution (D50 ≈ 400 nm) and high BET specific surface area (72.44 m 2 g −1 ). Its uniform dispersion in PVDF increases the membrane pore size from 28.1 nm in pristine PVDF to 38.7 nm at 1 wt% Ti-MOF/CN, significantly enhancing the overall porosity. The top-performing M3 composite membrane demonstrated exceptional multifunctionality: it achieved retention rates exceeding 90% for multiple dyes (Rhodamine B, Methyl Blue, Malachite Green) and antibiotics (Tetracycline). Long-term retention experiments were conducted on complex wastewater containing mixed dyes, alongside photodegradation tests under simulated solar radiation conditions (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm −2 ). Results indicate over 95% retention of mixed pollutants. Visible light irradiation significantly enhances the M3 membrane's FRR to 91.6%, further demonstrating the Ti-MOF/CN composite membrane's robust long-term operational stability and self-cleaning capability for photocatalytic degradation of aqueous pollutants.

TiO 2 was deposited on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene by the sol–gel method to construct core–shell structured MXene@TiO 2 fillers, which were then introduced into the PVDF matrix to prepare dielectric composite films. The effects of TiO 2 deposition ratio and filler loading on the dielectric properties of the composites were systematically investigated, and the thermal and mechanical properties of the optimized system were further evaluated. The results showed that the TiO 2 coating layer could construct an effective interfacial insulating structure, which enhanced interfacial polarization while suppressing carrier migration and the formation of leakage pathways, thereby enabling the synergistic regulation of dielectric constant and dielectric loss. When the TiO 2 deposition mass ratio reached 50%, the composites showed a more effective overall interfacial modulation effect. Under these conditions, the 15 wt% composite delivered the optimal overall dielectric performance, with a dielectric constant of 29.1 and a dielectric loss as low as 0.051, representing a significant reduction compared with that of the unmodified MXene/PVDF composite (0.59), and it also exhibited superior dielectric stability. At the same time, the thermal stability and mechanical performance of the composites were also enhanced. The study confirms that building a TiO 2 interfacial insulating layer is an effective approach to enhancing the dielectric performance of PVDF-based composites while realizing the coordinated optimization of multiple properties.

Understanding the microscopic mechanism of interfacial charge transfer is crucial for optimizing the performance of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). Here, a combined first-principles density-functional theory and experimental study reveals how polymer polarity and chemical composition regulate charge transfer at PVDF/polymer interfaces, including Nylon, PDMS, PVC, PE, PTFE, and FEP. The results demonstrate that polar β-PVDF/polymer heterostructures exhibit substantially stronger interfacial charge transfer than nonpolar systems, driven by the intrinsic built-in electric field of β-PVDF. The transferred charges primarily originate from the functional groups of the polymers, and the charge transfer magnitude follows the sequence β-PVDF/Nylon > β-PVDF/PDMS > β-PVDF/PVC > β-PVDF/PE > β-PVDF/PTFE > β-PVDF/FEP, corresponding to electron flow from low work function polymers toward the high work function β-PVDF. Furthermore, these theoretical trends are supported by experimental results, which confirm that β-PVDF-based TENGs deliver higher electrical outputs than α-PVDF-based systems and follow the same material-dependent sequence. This work elucidates the polarization-driven and material-dependent mechanisms of interfacial charge redistribution, providing design principles for high-output and controllable TENGs.

An environmentally-friendly temporally shaped femtosecond laser strategy is developed for fabricating functional composites. • A ″ lamellar LIG–nanographene particle " composite layer was fabricated via femtosecond laser dual-pulse processing. • The resulting MSCs achieve an area-specific capacitance of 58.25 mF cm −2 , 3.7 times higher than pure LIG-based devices. • Optimizing the pulse delay to 20 ps further increases the capacitance to 162 mF cm −2 with cycling stability. • Integrated into a flexible sensor, the MSC demonstrates high-sensitivity detection of physiological signals across multiple body regions. This study proposes a temporally shaped femtosecond laser liquid-phase strategy for in-situ functionalization of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) film to overcome prevalent limitations of micro-supercapacitor (MSC)-based flexible sensors, including constrained processing precision and intractable material performance optimization. Interaction between femtosecond dual pulses and PVDF triggers in-situ surface graphitization, yielding a lamellar laser-induced graphene (LIG) architecture. Concurrently, the laser dissociates graphene sheets in the dispersion into nanoparticles that firmly anchor onto LIG, constructing a hierarchical “lamellar LIG–nanographene particles” composite functional layer. Integrating femtosecond laser direct-writing patterning, temporally shaped based MSCs were fabricated. Systematic tuning of inter-pulse delay via temporally shaped identified an optimal 20 ps delay, yielding devices with areal capacitance (162 mF cm −2 ), energy density (14.40 μWh·cm −2 ), cycling stability (97.81% after 10,000 cycles), and robust durability. Flexible sensors assembled with the MSC achieved highly sensitive monitoring and distinct signal discrimination of diverse human physiological activities. This work establishes a novel laser processing paradigm for flexible micro-energy storage devices and provides a versatile material/device platform to advance flexible electronic systems for health monitoring, human–computer interaction, and sports rehabilitation. By blending P(VDF-TrFE) with PVDF-HFP and introducing a small amount of ZnO, a composite film system with both mechanical flexibility and electrical responsiveness was constructed. The effects of the TrFE/HFP ratio and hot rolling temperature on the mechanical behavior and strain-induced electrical response of the films were systematically studied. The results show that the introduction of HFP improves film ductility, while a higher TrFE content enhances load bearing capability and electrical response. Among the investigated compositions, the TrFE80/HFP20 composite containing 1.08 wt % surface-modified ZnO showed a good balance between electrical response and mechanical compliance. After hot rolling, the films processed at 65 °C showed stable mechanical behavior at low to moderate strain and produced clear open circuit voltage signals under stretching. Clear electrical signals were also observed under thermal perturbation. Based on these results, the selected composite film was used to fabricate flexible strain sensors, demonstrating promising potential for practical applications.

Piezocatalysis holds great potential for advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), yet the practical application of conventional powder catalysts is severely hindered by their poor recoverability and reusability. To overcome the limitation, a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based piezocatalytic nanofibrous membrane embedded with manganese-doped bismuth sodium titanate (BNMT) was fabricated via electrospinning, with polyethylene glycol (PEG) incorporated as a hydrophilicity enhancer under sonication. Under ultrasound-assisted peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in a continuous-flow system, the optimized membrane (0.3B-PEG-PVDF) achieved 90.7 % degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC, 10 mg/L) within 60 min. Quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed a unique mixed radical/non-radical pathway, with singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and hydroxyl radical (•OH) as the dominant reactive species. The piezocatalytic membrane maintained over 77 % TC removal after eight consecutive cycles, with negligible metal leaching and excellent anti-interference performance in real water matrices. This work provides a facile strategy for constructing efficient, recyclable piezocatalytic membranes and advances the practical application in continuous-flow wastewater treatment.

Defect-engineered Cu–TCPP/ZIF-L nanosheet membrane: tannic acid coordinates with Cu 2+ to create defect sites, while ZIF-L serves as an interlayer spacer to suppress π–π stacking and restore transport. • The optimized membrane achieves 691.20 L·m -2 ·h -1 ·bar -1 , a 75.5× increase over pristine Cu–TCPP. • Efficient dye removal under static conditions: 97.77% (CV) and 97.87% (MG), suitable for agricultural water purification. • Adsorption–degradation self-cleaning via single-layer chemisorption/ion exchange and catalytic oxidation by O₂· - / 1 O₂; cucumber seedling tests confirm irrigation safety. Dye-laden wastewater from aquaculture and agricultural runoff poses serious environmental challenges, calling for membranes that can deliver both high water flux and efficient dye removal. However, MOF-based composite membranes often still face trade-offs between permeance and separation efficiency, and their practical performance is limited by fouling and insufficient self-regeneration. We hypothesize that defect engineering of Cu–TCPP via tannic-acid-mediated metal–phenolic network (MPN) disruption, together with ZIF-L nanosheet interlayer modulation, can create favorable transport pathways and strengthen adsorption/ion-exchange interactions while enabling ROS-driven self-cleaning. A defect-engineered Cu–TCPP/ZIF-L nanosheet-modified PVDF membrane was prepared using an MPN strategy with tannic acid, and its dye removal performance toward malachite green and crystal violet, together with the underlying mechanisms, was systematically investigated. The optimized membrane achieves a 75.5-fold increase in water permeance to 691.20 L/(m 2 ·h·bar) while maintaining high removal efficiencies of 97.87% for malachite green and 97.77% for crystal violet, and it exhibits self-cleaning behavior enabled by superoxide radicals and singlet oxygen. This work demonstrates an integrated Cu-TCPP–TA/ZIF-L/PVDF membrane design that combines MPN-mediated defect regulation with ZIF-L-assisted lamellar structure modulation for adsorption–degradation-based dye removal in agricultural water-related scenarios. Abstract Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) based on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) have attracted considerable attention for wearable and self-powered biomedical electronics due to their flexibility, biocompatibility, and favorable triboelectric properties. However, their relatively limited electrical output still hinders practical applications. Herein, a synergistic strategy integrating hierarchically porous structure engineering and barium titanate (BaTiO3, BTO) nanoparticle (NP) incorporation was developed to enhance the triboelectric performance of PVDF nanofiber membranes. In particular, the hierarchical porous structure increases surface roughness and effective contact area, thereby promoting interfacial charge generation. BTO NPs compensate for the reduction in effective dielectric permittivity associated with the porous structure. The synergistic effect of these two factors achieved a short-circuit current of 0.863 ± 0.027 μA, a transferred charge density of 25.99 ± 0.62 μC m−2, and a power density of 650 mW m−2. The output voltage increased to 64.44 ± 0.83 V, corresponding to a 204.8% enhancement compared with the pristine device. Finally, the device was attached to the elbow joint, the contact area of the arm, and the sole of a shoe to verify its ability to monitor human motion signals and power electronic devices. The results demonstrated that the sensors can effectively distinguish between different motion states and can power small electronic devices for harvesting mechanical energy. Overall, this study developed a simple yet highly efficient strategy for enhancing the electrical output capacity of PVDF-TENG and holds promising potential for practical applications in human physiological signal monitoring and self-powering wearable devices.

Dual-electric-field coupling of the S-scheme g-C 3 N 4 /BiOCl heterojunction and β-PVDF piezo-polarization modulates oxygen-vacancy energy levels for efficient charge separation. • An oxygen-vacancy-rich g-C 3 N 4 /BiOCl photocatalyst is integrated into a porous PVDF membrane, achieving stable immobilization and rapid mass transport. • The multifunctional membrane delivers a high piezo-photocatalytic rate of 0.04012 min −1 and 98.21 % tetracycline removal under light-mechanical coupling. • The composite membrane exhibits excellent recyclability and enables synergistic piezo-photocatalytic purification for antibiotic-contaminated wastewater. Oxygen vacancies (O Vs ) play an important role in photocatalysis, but exploiting O Vs in heterostructures to achieve efficient electron trapping and directional transport remains challenging. In this study, oxygen-vacancy-rich 2D/2D g-C 3 N 4 /BiOCl nanosheets were prepared via a simple hydrothermal method and immobilized on a porous β-PVDF matrix through a freeze-assisted phase inversion process, forming a flexible piezo-photocatalytic membrane. The results indicate that the built-in electric field of the g-C 3 N 4 /BiOCl heterojunction and the piezoelectric polarization field of PVDF jointly regulate the electronic behavior near O Vs . These two electric fields overlap around the defect sites and favorably modulate the defect energy levels, thereby enhancing the ability of O Vs to capture electrons. This dual-field regulation deepens the defect potential wells, prolongs electron residence time, and suppresses carrier recombination. The piezoelectric field also provides a directional driving force that guides electron transport along the interface and promotes the generation of reactive oxygen species. Using tetracycline as the target pollutant, the g-C 3 N 4 /BiOCl/PVDF-50 % membrane exhibited the highest piezo–photocatalytic activity, with an apparent rate constant of 0.04012 min −1 . Overall, this study elucidates the synergistic mechanism among the piezoelectric field, the heterojunction electric field, and O Vs , and provides an effective strategy for designing high performance flexible piezo-photocatalytic materials. Oxygen‑vacancy‑rich g‑C 3 N 4 /BiOCl nanosheets embedded in a flexible β‑PVDF membrane construct dual electric fields by combining an S‑scheme built‑in field with piezoelectric polarization under mechanical vibration. This dual‑field superposition deepens defect potential wells, facilitates directional charge separation, and enhances defect‑mediated O 2 activation, thereby enabling efficient piezophotocatalytic degradation of tetracycline in aqueous solution.
