A novel reactive phosphorus-containing flame retardant 1,4-phenylene-bis((6-oxido-6H-dibenz[c,e][1,2]-oxaphosphorinyl) methylene) diacrylate (TDCAA-DOPO), with two symmetrical 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphena-nthrene-10-oxide structure (bi-DOPO), was synthesized and combined with unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) via cross-linking to prepare flame-retardant UPR (FR-UPR). To make clear both the effects of the bi-DOPO structure and the cross-linking reaction on the thermal stability and flame retardancy of UPR, an additive flame retardant that also owned bi-DOPO structure but without a vinyl bond, 1,4-phenylene-bis((6-oxido-6H-dibenz[c,e][1,2]-oxaphosphorinyl) carbinol) (TDCA-DOPO), was used as a contrast. The results showed that the incorporation of TDCAA-DOPO or TDCA-DOPO into UPR can reduce its peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR), as well as improve the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value. As compared to TDCA-DOPO, the reactive TDCAA-DOPO endowed FR-UPR with enhanced thermal stability, residual char, and glass transition temperature (Tg), which were even higher than those of pure UPR. Besides, their flame-retardant mechanism for UPR had been well investigated.

Sustained photocatalytic hydrogenation of CO 2 molecules is crucial for the CO 2 methanation reaction. Synchronizing directional photogenerated charge carriers and regulating the activation and hydrogenation process of CO 2 molecules are key to achieving the efficient photocatalytic methanation of CO 2 . Herein, Ag–Bi bimetallic sites were designed and anchored on the surface of TiO 2 via a one-step solution impregnation reduction and applied for the photocatalytic conversion of CO 2 to CH 4 . The optimum 5 %Ag 90 Bi 10 -TiO 2 composite exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance for the photoreduction of CO 2 into CH 4 . The product selectivity of CH 4 reached up to 97.2 %, at a rate of 58.9 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 . In situ Kelvin probe force microscopy and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy attributed the high selectivity of CH 4 to the coexistence of metallic Ag and Bi sites, which induced directional photogenerated electrons and hole transfer. Moreover, the synergistic function of Ag–Bi bimetallic active sites on TiO 2 facilitated the hydrogenation of *CO 2 – to CH 4 . The proposed strategy provides insight into the design of highly selective photocatalysts for the reaction of photocatalytic methanation of CO 2 .

In the realm of electronic packaging advancements, the utilization of metal to ceramic joints has garnered significant attention. This manuscript details the development of a specific glass solder with excellent wettability and a thermal expansion coefficient of 8.1 × 10 −6 °C −1 , comprising 35Bi 2 O 3 -30B 2 O 3 -15ZnO-20SiO 2 (mol.%). This design achieves reliable connection of the Al 2 O 3 ceramics and Kovar alloy in an atmospheric environment. The interface reaction between the glass solder, Al 2 O 3 ceramics, and oxidized Kovar alloy resulted in the formation of ZnAl 2 O 4 particles and Bi spheres at the joints. The enhancement in joint shear strength was primarily attributed to the nanoscale, dispersed ZnAl 2 O 4 particles. However, the presence of microscale Bi spheres, with a lower elastic modulus than the glass solder, initiated cracks during shear deformation, thereby compromising the integrity of the joint. Optimization of brazing temperatures enabled control over the ZnAl 2 O 4 and Bi sphere phases within the joints, yielding a peak shear strength of 51.7 ± 8.9 MPa at 650 °C. This study highlights the achievement of high-performance metal-ceramic bonding through tailored interface reactions and optimized joint microstructures.

The interfacial compatibility of heterojunction photocatalysts critically governs the interaction modes between constituent materials. Herein, a flower-like Bi-BDC-NH 2 /Ag 2 CO 3 heterostructure was fabricated via a simple ion-exchange solution method, serving as a robust photocatalyst for the efficient photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) in simulated wastewater under visible-light irradiation. Ag 2 CO 3 nanosheets were in-situ grown on the surface of three-dimensional Bi-BDC-NH 2 , forming an Ag 2 CO 3 -on-Bi-BDC-NH 2 type II heterojunction that establishes intimate interfacial contact, significantly accelerating the charge and mass transport dynamics. In comparison with pure Bi-BDC-NH 2 and Ag 2 CO 3 , the optimal Bi-BDC-NH 2 /Ag 2 CO 3 -50 (with a weight ratio of 0.5:1) exhibited dramatically enhanced photocatalytic activity, achieving 99% Cr(VI) reduction within 2 hours under visible light (>420 nm, 150 W xenon lamp). Mechanistic investigations, including energy band structure analysis, radical trapping experiments, and photoelectrochemical measurements, revealed that the heterojunction interface significantly promotes the separation and transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. This work provides valuable insights into the rational design of MOF-based heterojunction photocatalysts and their applications in environmental remediation.

This study develops a flexible strain sensor with electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, hydrophobicity, and acid/alkali resistance by integrating a bi-ordered porous structure with a micro-raised surface. The structure, mimicking lotus leaves, is fabricated using magnetic field-assisted freezing orientation and laser ablation on graphene (Gr)/Fe nanowire (NW)-infused aerogel and polydimethylsiloxane. The sensor, with a Gr to Fe NW ratio of 9:1, shows a high gauge factor of 85.19 in the 0–30% tensile strain. These values are 304%, 430%, 702%, and 1226% of the samples with Gr to Fe NWs ratios of 7:1, 5:1, 3:1, and 1:1, respectively. It achieves an EMI shielding efficiency (SE) of 20.02 dB and a specific SE of 807.48 dB cm 2 /g in the 8.2–12.4 GHz range, 150% higher than isotropic samples. The sensor exhibits a contact angle of 155.76°, maintaining hydrophobic stability under stretching and showing excellent resistance to acid and alkali. Additionally, the sensor can be integrated into wearable devices like gloves for gesture recognition, machine hand manipulation, and controlling neon bulbs, demonstrating potential for applications in field robotics and human-robot interaction.

The photocatalytic conversion of CO₂ into value-added chemicals using solar energy is a crucial strategy for achieving carbon neutrality. However, existing semiconductor catalyst systems suffer from suboptimal conversion efficiencies due to inefficient charge separation and transfer. The precise modulating surface microenvironment of semiconductor catalyst contributes an effective approach to address these limitations in photocatalytic applications. This study proposes a precise dual-modification strategy to modulate the surface microenvironment by incorporating Co 2+ incorporation and in situ generating Bi sub-nanoclusters in ultrathin BiOCl nanosheets. This approach synergistically establishes spin-polarization effects and interfacial ohmic contacts, while enhancing the intrinsic built-in electric field. Consequently, it drives efficient charge separation and transfer. Mechanistic analyses via theoretical simulations and in situ experiments reveal that the engineered spin polarization facilitates electron transfer through aligned magnetic moments, while the formed ohmic contact eliminates interfacial potential barriers, collectively lowering the energy barrier for CO 2 * and COOH* formation. The optimized 3 %Co-BBOC catalyst demonstrates exceptional CO₂-to-CO conversion performance with a production rate of 58.25 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , representing a 6.6-fold enhancement over pristine BiOCl. The present work elucidates a dual-functional synergistic mechanism of modulating the surface microenvironment by integrating spin manipulation and interfacial engineering, providing fundamental insights for designing advanced photocatalytic systems with optimized charge transport and surface reaction dynamics.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently gained attention as a highly promising category of photocatalytic materials, showing great potential in the degradation of organic dyes such as Rhodamine B (RhB). Nonetheless, the mono-metal MOF materials in this application are often constrained by their limited light absorption capabilities and their propensity for recombination with carriers. The combination of different metal-based MOFs to form heterogeneous reactors could present a promising approach for the removal of dyes from water. In this work, a new CAU-17/MIL-100(Fe) Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst composed of two MOFs with the same ligands is reported to realize the efficient degradation of dyes in water. The combination of the two MOFs results in a significant enhancement of the surface open sites, optical responsivity range, and charge-separating efficiency through synergistic effects. In addition, the capture experiments conducted on the photocatalytic process have verified that ∙O2−and h+are the primary active species. Consequently, CAU-17/MIL-100(Fe) exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity and stability. The degradation rate of the optimal CAU-17/MIL-100(Fe) photocatalyst was 34.55 times that of CAU-17 and 3.60 times that of MIL-100(Fe). Our work provides a new strategy for exploring the visible-light degradation of RhB in bimetallic MOF composites.

Amorphous engineering is becoming a competitive strategy to address the huge challenge of low energy storage density, efficiency, and breakdown strength in dielectric ceramic capacitors, owing to the low remnant polarization and high breakdown strength of the amorphous structure. Herein, BaTiO3-Bi(Co0.5Zr0.5)O3 (BT-BCZ) thin films with an amorphous structure is proposed, which is expected to obtain large ΔP (Pmax – Pr) and energy storage density. Investigations on the electric performance of these thin film materials present that Bi3+ ions with a special electronic structure enhance the polarization of amorphous materials; simultaneously, the defect dipole structure formed by Co2+ ions and oxygen vacancy will be beneficial to the increment of polarization, while maintaining low remnant polarization. As expected, an outstanding energy storage density of 109.14 J cm–3 and efficiency of 81.17% are simultaneously realized in 0.85BT-0.15BCZ thin film. Moreover, an excellent temperature and cycle stability in wide temperature (20–150 °C) and cycle (1–105) ranges are exhibited, which suggests that BaTiO3-Bi(Co0.5Zr0.5)O3 thin films with an amorphous structure possess an extensive application prospect in dielectric ceramic capacitors.

In this study, the 4-aminopyridine (Py) was employed to link with terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) through amide bonding to generate the symmetric ligand Py-TPC, and the iron phthalocyanine (FePc) was axially coordinated with Py-TPC to synthetic the composite catalyst FePc-Py-TPC. By introducing Py-TPC, the π-π conjugated stack structure within phthalocyanine molecules was disrupted and more active sites were exposed. FePc-Py-TPC was dispersed in polyacrylonitrile (PAN) through electrospinning to obtain FePc-Py-TPC/PAN nanofibers, which solved the problem of difficult recycling and utilization of powder catalysts. FePc-Py-TPC/PAN can effectively activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) at room temperature, and the removal rate of carbamazepine (CBZ) approaches 100 % within 40 min. After five recycles for CBZ degradation over the FePc-Py-TPC/PAN/PMS system, the removal ratios of CBZ remained at 90 %. O 2− is the main active radical, SO 4 − , OH, and 1 O 2 play a secondary role. Six intermediate products and two final products of CBZ were identified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography and high-definition mass spectrometry, and the possible degradation pathways were speculated. All CBZ and the aromatic intermediates were eventually converted into small acids.

The industrial application of electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction is challenged by the limited mass transfer and the mixing of products with traditional electrolytes. Here, we propose an in-situ electroreduction strategy to construct hydrophobic Bi microsheets with (012) plane orientation and abundant grain boundaries to solve these problems and maintain high intrinsic activity. The large distance between microsheets and the stable micro-sized hydrophobic structure can trap more air and form smaller solid-liquid interface to stably improve CO 2 mass transfer. The obtained Bi microsheets exhibit high activity and selectivity in a wide potential window. In an H-type cell, the selectivity of formate exceeds 90% over a potential range of − 0.8 V to − 1.3 V vs. RHE. The pure formate solution is produced using a CO 2 reduction cell with solid-state electrolyte to simplify product separation, and 0.13 M pure formate solution is continuously and stably produced for 110 h at 160 mA cm −2 .

Aerogel, characterized by ultra-low density and scalable preparation, is extensively utilized in various applications, such as catalysis, adsorption/separation, and thermal insulation. However, the trade-off between durability and flexibility for aerogels remains a fundamental challenge, limiting their further development in harsh and complicated conditions. Herein, we developed a confined Ostwald ripening approach to construct the first example of 3D polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) aerogel without additional binders. This aerogel possessed an ultra-low density of 0.042 g·cm −3 , vertically aligned channels, and complex superhydrophobic surface structure, which realized the highest oil flux (5.09 × 10 5 L·m −2 ·h −1 ) in the ultra-fast oil/water separation so far. This excellent performance could be maintained in strong acid, alkaline, corrosive organic, or complicated emulsion solutions. Moreover, this pure PTFE skeleton exhibited a high Young's modulus of 0.08 MPa, an elastic modulus of 5.24 × 10 −4 MPa, and excellent flexibility. Following, the 3D PTFE aerogel was employed in Pickering emulsion bi-phase photocatalysis for highly efficient photocatalyst cycling and product separation. This work not only addresses the inherent poor processability of PTFE but also breaks the trade-off between durability and flexibility for aerogels, which greatly boosts its development in long-term practical applications under harsh and complicated conditions.

While various strategies, such as introducing n-π* transitions and expanding π-conjugated systems, have been proven to effectively enhance light harvesting for metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), their practical application is often hampered by ligand structure dependency—specifically, the requirement for complex ligand synthesis. To address this limitation, this work reports an in-situ ligand hydroxylation strategy during the synthesis of Bi-based MOFs. This approach not only broadens the light absorption range of the MOFs but also circumvents environmentally unfriendly synthetic conditions (e.g., high temperature or strong oxidants). This phenomenon is first observed in BDC-(OH) 2 containing two hydroxyl groups, which is transformed to BDC-(OH) 4 with four hydroxyl groups in the final MOF, denoted as Bi-BDC-(OH) 4 , as directly seen in the single crystal structure. Furthermore, the in-situ hydroxylation process is successfully extended to other ligands, including gallic acid (GA) and quercetin (QC), demonstrating its universality. Importantly, the hydroxylation also increases the charge separation efficiency of Bi-BDC-(OH) 4 . This work provides a novel and practical strategy to enhance light utilization and improve the photocatalytic efficiency of Bi-based MOFs.
