Enhanced photocatalytic degradation of dyes in wastewater remains a major focus in environmental research. Herein, a novel spherical binuclear metallophthalocyanine (Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 ) featuring a planar conjugated structure was self-assembled onto g-C 3 N 4 via π-π stacking interactions. This self-assembly, achieved through a facile “in situ” hydrothermal method, resulted in the construction of a g-C 3 N 4 /Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 biomimetic photocatalyst. A strong π-π stacking interaction between Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 and g-C 3 N 4 is evidenced by the red shift of the Q-band absorption peak and the elevated Zn 2p 3/2 binding energy. Furthermore, the luminescence intensity of g-C 3 N 4 /Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 decreases to 53% of that of pure g-C 3 N 4 , indicating that the π-π stacking interaction promotes the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. The g-C 3 N 4 /Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 photocatalysts showed good photocatalytic oxidation activity toward methylene blue. The catalytic efficiency of g-C 3 N 4 /Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 for methylene blue reaches 85.1% after 3h of treatment at room temperature, which is 1.94 times higher than that of pure g-C 3 N 4 . The measured first-order kinetic rate constant is 0.0086 min −1 , exhibiting a 3.44-fold enhancement relative to that of pure g-C 3 N 4 . Mechanistic investigations indicated that the highly reactive intermediate g-C 3 N 4 (e − )/[Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 ]⁺– * O 2 significantly promoted the photocatalytic oxidative degradation of methylene blue in wastewater. The self-assembled supramolecular g-C 3 N 4 /Zn 2 Pc 2 (EP) 4 offers great potential for developing high-efficiency and environmentally friendly photocatalysts for dye-containing wastewater.

The development of high-performance elastomers that are simultaneously strong, crack-tolerant, and wear-resistant remains a persistent challenge. Herein, we design bio-inspired semicarbazide chain extender featuring high-density hydrogen-bonding sites to synthesize poly(urethane-urea) (PUU). The use of two such extenders creates geometric confinement that promotes ordered H-bonding arrays, which synergistically enhances the mechanical performance. The resulting PUU-HI elastomer exhibits a nanoscale-ordered phase-separated structure and maximized H-bonding, achieving a tensile strength of 120.2 MPa, toughness of 400.5 MJ m −3 and true fracture stress of 1.3 GPa, even surpassing spider silk. The architecture additionally delivers high crack tolerance, fatigue resistance, and high wear resistance, making it ideal for stable, long-term used triboelectric nanogenerator interfaces. Solid-state NMR reveals the geometric-confinement-induced ordered and high-density H-bonding structure in hard domain for efficient energy dissipation. By designing tailored H-bonding motifs and amplifying supramolecular interactions via geometric confinement, this work offers a promising strategy for developing mechanically robust and durable elastomers.

Elemental chalcogens (Ch) are promising positive materials for sustainable, high-energy lithium batteries, yet their chemistry is generally limited by the two-electron Ch 0 /Ch 2− conversion below 2.5 V. This leaves the high-valent redox regime largely unexplored due to the instability of oxidized chalcogen species. Here, we report a halide-rich electrolyte design that enables reversible high-valent chalcogen redox in lithium batteries. By using soluble organic halide salts with asymmetric cations, the electrolyte provides active chloride or bromide anions to promote high-valent redox and stabilize oxidized intermediates, thereby enabling a redox-amphoteric selenium (Se) conversion pathway. This transition from reduction-only chemistry (Se 2− /Se 0 ) to three-electron conversion (Se 2− /Se 0 /Se + ) is evidenced by a distinct plateau at ~2.6 V, corresponding to the Se 0 /Se + process. Consequently, the Li | |Se cell achieves a reversible discharge capacity of 980 mAh g −1 and a specific energy of 2003 Wh kg Se −1 with stable cycling performance over 200 cycles at 400 mA g −1 . This strategy is further extended to sulfur and selenium sulfide materials, activating high-valent conversion. These results establish a potentially general route to access high-valent, multi-electron chalcogen chemistry, broadening the energy density limits for next-generation batteries.

The sensitive monitoring of bisphenol A (BPA) concentration remains a critical challenge in environmental analysis and public healthcare. In this study, Mn 3 O 4 nanorods were facilely prepared in an aqueous solution at room temperature using Mn 2+ as the precursor, NaOH as the basic source and L-histidine as the mediator. The as-prepared Mn 3 O 4 nanorods exhibit excellent laccase-mimicking activity with a catalytic efficiency of 3.85 × 10 − 3 min − 1 . The catalytic mechanism was confirmed to be oxygen vacancies by electron paramagnetic resonance spectrum and enzymatic inhibition experiment. Taking advantage of the excellent laccase-mimetic properties of the Mn 3 O 4 nanozyme, a sensitive and selective colorimetric sensing platform for BPA detection was constructed. The colorimetric sensing platform achieved a linear detection range of 1–60 µM BPA and a detection limit of 0.23 µM for BPA (3σ/S). The proposed method was applicable to the determination of BPA in plastic-packaged white vinegar, bottled water and milk with good recoveries and reproducibility. This work not only provides a novel and efficient analytical tool for the rapid detection of BPA but also offers a new insight into the design and synthesis of other amino acid-mediated nanozymes for environmental monitoring applications. Mercury ion (Hg 2+ ) contamination poses severe threats to ecological systems and human health, necessitating the development of facile and rapid monitoring methodologies. Herein, a fluorescence sensing system integrating ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) nanoparticle (NP)-based test strips with a miniaturized fluorimeter was fabricated for rapid quantitative analysis of Hg 2+ in complicated matrix samples. First, CdTe quantum dot (QD)-coated silica (CdTe@SiO 2 ) NPs and Hg 2+ -imprinted polymer-functionalized CdTe@SiO 2 (Hg-IIPs@CdTe@SiO 2 ) NPs were synthesized via an ion-imprinting strategy using Hg 2+ as the template ion via ion-imprinting technology. Critical synthetic parameters, including the feed ratios of functional monomer, cross-linker, and catalyst, as well as the loading volume of QDs, were systematically optimized. Characterizations verified that the as-prepared Hg-IIPs@CdTe@SiO 2 NPs displayed regular spherical morphology, desirable component distribution, and favorable fluorescence performance. Further mechanistic investigation revealed that Hg 2+ effectively quenched the intrinsic fluorescence of Hg-IIPs@CdTe@SiO 2 NPs via a combination of dynamic quenching and Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). Benefiting from the good fluorescence properties of specific recognition of the system, the constructed sensing platform achieved high sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) of 9.1 ng/L, superior anti-interference selectivity, and satisfactory reproducibility and storage stability (relative standard deviation, RSD < 5%). Green Analytical Procedure Index (GAPI) assessment confirmed the eco-friendly feature of the proposed detection strategy. Finally, the developed sensing system was successfully applied for Hg 2+ quantification in real samples, highlighting its promising application prospect for environmental supervision, food safety, and pharmaceutical inspection. Graphic abstract Hg-IIPs@CdTe@SiO 2 NP-based test strips combined with a miniaturized fluorometer were successfully used for rapid fluorometric determination of Hg 2+ in real samples (milk, lake water, bezoar antidotal pills, ginseng stems, and leaves).

Osteoarthritis is associated with a weakly acidic intra-articular microenvironment, which provides an intrinsic trigger for pH-responsive drug delivery systems to achieve site-specific and controlled drug release, thereby enhancing therapeutic efficacy. In this study, celecoxib (CXB)-loaded microspheres (CM-10) for intra-articular injection were fabricated using a microfluidic technique with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)/CaCO₃ as the carrier. The microspheres were systematically characterized in terms of morphology, encapsulation efficiency, and physicochemical properties. Their pH-responsive drug release and degradation behaviors were evaluated under different in vitro conditions, and the degradation behavior following intra-articular injection was further investigated. In addition, the pharmacodynamic effects of CM-10 were assessed in an osteoarthritis model. The results demonstrated that CM-10 exhibited pronounced pH-responsive release, with accelerated drug release under acidic conditions and sustained degradation following intra-articular administration. Furthermore, CM-10 effectively promoted articular cartilage repair and improved therapeutic outcomes. These findings indicate that CM-10 has promising potential as a pH-responsive intra-articular drug delivery system for osteoarthritis therapy.

Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) is a globally invasive pest that poses significant threats to a variety of crops. It has a wide host range of more than 353 recorded plants from 76 families. However, the herbivorous insects could have adaptation mechanisms through physiological modifications in response to constitutive defenses of different host plants. The results revealed that feeding different host plants could significantly affect LC 50 s of broflanilide, chlorantraniliprole, tetraniliprole, indoxacarb, metaflumizone, lufenuron, methoxyfenozide, and spinetoram to S. frugiperda compared to rearing on Zea mays (L.). Detoxification enzyme activity assays and synergist tests indicated that changes in detoxification enzyme activity cause alterations in the susceptibility of S. frugiperda to insecticides. Knockdown of UGT40F3 using RNA interference (RNAi) significantly increased susceptibility to tetraniliprole in all host-fed strains. Microscale thermophoresis (MST) and molecular docking revealed a robust tetraniliprole-UGT40F3 interaction, suggesting that UGT40F3 plays a pivotal role in tetraniliprole metabolism. These results showed that different host plants can influence the detoxification enzyme activity of S. frugiperda , leading to variations in its susceptibility to insecticides. These findings provide a scientific foundation for developing effective pest management strategies.

The accumulation of antibiotics in the environment and their increasing ecological risks make it essential to develop efficient and cost-effective technologies for treating refractory antibiotics-containing wastewater. Compared with conventional physical adsorption and biodegradation, electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) offer advantages including simple operation, free of additional chemicals, mild reaction conditions, and the ability to achieve both pollutant degradation and resource recovery. The carbon-based membrane shows great potential to be applied as a catalytic electrode, performing functions as conventional supports. This study fabricated self-supporting carbon nanofibrous membranes modified with phenolic resin (PR) by an electrospinning-thermal treatment strategy. The structural, conductivity, and mechanical properties of membranes prepared by four PR loading methods (immersion, spray coating, blend electrospinning, and grinding-remolding) were systematically studied. Owing to its superior conductivity and mechanical strength, the PR-I@PTA/ACFs-10 membrane prepared by the immersion method was selected as the working electrode in a flow-through electrocatalytic system for degrading tetracycline (TC). This configuration forces the reaction solution through the anode and cathode, significantly enhancing convective mass transfer and reactant contact. The results indicate that under conditions of 2.5 V, pH = 6, and 10 mM Na 2 SO 4 , the degradation rate of 10 mg L -1 TC reached 85.07% within 1 h. Through characterization techniques and DFT calculations revealed the synergistic mechanism of PR modification in promoting the generation of ·OH and optimizing electron transport pathways. The primary intermediates and potential degradation pathways were identified by LC-MS and DFT LUMO-HOMO calculations, providing deep insights into the complex transformation processes during TC degradation.

ARMS (ankyrin repeat-rich membrane spanning) is a scaffold protein essential for neurotrophic signaling, synaptic development, and cytoskeletal remodeling. Despite its central role in neuronal function, how ARMS is regulated at the molecular level remains poorly understood. Here, we identify GABARAP, an Atg8-family autophagy adaptor, as a novel ARMS-binding protein that directly interacts with its N-terminal ankyrin repeats. We present the crystal structure of the ARMS-GABARAP complex, revealing an atypical interaction mode distinct from canonical LIR-dependent Atg8 interactions. Remarkably, ARMS specifically binds to the GABARAP subfamily of Atg8 proteins, setting it apart from the LC3 subfamily. Functional analysis demonstrates that GABARAP negatively regulates ARMS-mediated dendritic spine development and maturation in hippocampal neurons. Additionally, disrupting the ARMS-GABARAP complex using ankyrin-derived peptides alters ARMS subcellular localization, increasing its accumulation in the soma of neurons. Collectively, our findings uncover a novel ARMS-GABARAP interaction mechanism, establish the regulatory role of this complex in neuronal protein homeostasis, and suggest potential therapeutic strategies for targeting scaffold protein interactions in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.

The development of fully biobased epoxy resins as sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based counterparts is of great significance for addressing resource depletion and environmental concerns. A fully biobased epoxy thermoset was synthesized from a magnolol-derived epoxy monomer (MG-EP) and a furfurylamine-based diamine curing agent (BDFA). The chemical structures were confirmed by FT-IR and ¹H NMR. The MG-EP system showed lower viscosity (0.475 Pa·s) than commercial DGEBA, indicating better processability. The cured biobased epoxy resin exhibited a storage modulus of 1.22 MPa at 30 °C, which was close to that of its petroleum-based counterpart. In addition, the cured biobased epoxy resin showed a tensile strength of 73.8 MPa–35.7% higher than that of DGEBA/BDFA. Moreover, it demonstrated enhanced char yield (44.9% vs. 21.6%) at 800 °C, and reduced heat release (PHRR 173.1 W/g vs. 216.6 W/g, THR 20.3 kJ/g vs. 26.1 kJ/g) compared to those of DGEBA/BDFA. As a result, MG-EP/BDFA achieved a V-1 UL-94 rating. This work presents a promising strategy for developing high-performance fully biobased epoxy resins with integrated mechanical strength and fire safety.

A highly sensitive fluorescent lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) was developed for SARS‑CoV‑2 IgG detection. Polystyrene (PS) microspheres were synthesized via emulsion polymerization, doped with dipyridamole (Dip), and coated with a protective silica (SiO 2 ) shell through a sol–gel process. After amine functionalization, the SARS‑CoV‑2 nucleocapsid (N) protein was covalently immobilized onto the microsphere surface using EDC/NHS chemistry, yielding PS@Dip@SiO 2 –N fluorescent probes. The LFIA strip enabled one‑step detection within 15 min. Under optimized conditions (N protein conjugation concentration of 40 µg/mL), the strip showed excellent specificity with no cross‑reactivity against other human coronaviruses (NL63, OC43, 229E). Quantitative determination based on the T/C grayscale ratio fitted the Hill equation (R² = 0.9782). The detection limit for SARS‑CoV‑2 IgG was 10 ng/mL, approximately two orders of magnitude lower than that of a commercial colloidal gold‑based LFIA strip. This platform provides a rapid, sensitive, and low‑cost solution for point‑of‑care serological screening of COVID‑19. Graphical abstract

Modified TS-1 catalysts were prepared by treating TS-1 with different alkalis for the nitration of aldoxime, and the effect of alkali treatment on catalytic performance was investigated. TS-1 was modified using organic amines such as ethylamine (EA), triethylamine (TEA), and tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH), as well as inorganic bases such as NaOH, KOH. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, UV-vis, N 2 adsorption etc., which showed that the volume of mesopores increased and the skeleton structure remained basically unchanged by the ethylamine-modified TS-1 and the TPAOH-modified TS-1. The highest yield of 1-nitropropane increased 78% when propionaldehyde oxime was catalyzed by the 0.1 mol/L ethylamine treated sample TS-1-EA-0.1. The enhanced catalytic performance of TS-1 after ethylamine treatment may be attributed to the matching between the pore size of modified TS‑1 and the molecular size of propionaldehyde oxime. Subsequently, TS-1-EA-0.1 was used to catalyze acetaldoxime and butyraldehyde oxime. The results revealed that this catalyst was suitable for acetaldehyde oxime as expected, but less effective for the oxidation of butyraldehyde oxime with a larger molecular diameter than propionaldehyde oxime to 1-nitrobutane.
