Accurately controlling the directional activation of the primary and secondary hydroxyls and preventing the deep oxidation of oxygen-containing functional groups and the degree of C–C cleavage is still a great challenge for the selective oxidation of glycerol to glyceric acid. Hence, a series of bimetallic Au-Pt/M x O y C z catalysts (M = Cu, Co, Ce, Mn, Ni, Zn, Zr) were prepared using MOFs-derived transition metal carbon-based compounds as the support. These catalysts were utilized for glycerol catalytic oxidation to glyceric acid under basic conditions. The experimental date indicated that the type of transition metal makes a big difference on the conversion of glycerol and the selectivity of glyceric acid under the mild condition of 60 ℃. Among them, the Mn-modified carbon-based compound supported Au-Pt/Mn x O y C z catalyst has the best catalytic activity. After reaction for 2 h, the conversion of glycerol could reach 100 %, and the selectivity of glyceric acid could reach 57.3 %. The reason for the best activity of the Au-Pt/Mn x O y C z catalyst is that the particle size of active molecules is small, and the strong metal-support interaction produces more active sites. Specifically, Au-Pt/Mn x O y C z catalyst forms an Au-Pt alloy, and the synergy between alloyed Au-Pt and Mn &+ enhances the acidity of the catalyst, causing it to produce the most acidic sites and promoting the dispersion of metal nanoparticles. The strong basic site of the catalyst can promote Au-Pt electron transfer, which in turn changes the reducing properties of Au-Pt and enriches the oxygen vacancies of the catalyst. Therefore, the synergistic interaction between the acidic sites and strong basic sites promotes the activation of Au-Pt, which in turn promotes the reduction of Mn-based oxides and the activation and migration of oxygen. This work will offer some new recommendations for the development of MOFs-derived transition metal-based catalysts for the catalytic oxidation of bio-polyols under mild conditions.

The increasing emphasis on food quality and consumer safety has prompted researchers to explore green manufacturing techniques for packaging materials. In this study, γ-cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks (γ-CD-MOFs) were prepared as promising nanocarriers for gallic acid (GA) and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). These nanocarriers (GA-Ag@CD-MOFs) were further incorporated into a zein matrix to fabricate multifunctional composite films, referred to as MOFs-Zein. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) analysis indicated that the fabricated composite film exhibited excellent biocompatibility, with GA-Ag@CD-MOFs uniformly dispersed within the film matrix. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) result revealed that the incorporation of GA-Ag@CD-MOFs facilitated the formation of intermolecular hydrogen bonds with the matrix polymer. The addition of GA-Ag@CD-MOFs enhanced the tensile strength of the composite film by 19.70 %, improved the water barrier performance by 57.76 %, and provided almost 100 % UV protection. The exceptional controlled release capability of γ-CD-MOFs for GA empowered the composite films to maintain their robust initial antioxidant capacity even after 100 days of storage. Moreover, the composite films performed high-efficiency antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica . Acute toxicological studies showed no histopathology related toxicity was found in GA-Ag@CD-MOFs treated mice. When applied to fresh pork, the composite films significantly reduced the key quality indicators of raw meat, compared to the control film. Overall, this work presents a promising approach to fabricate the composite films as a sustainable and functional solution for green functional food packaging.

Designing multifunctional composites with high flame retardancy and excellent electromagnetic shielding performance is of significant importance. In order to address the poor flame retardant and electromagnetic shielding performances of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites, in this work, the γ-propyl-trimethoxysilane (KH550) functionalized silicon microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (SiAPP-NH 2 ) was synthesized using interface modulation technology. Then, SiAPP-NH 2 was combined with a copper metal–organic framework (MOF-Cu) through microencapsulation and electrostatic self-assembly techniques to prepare microencapsulated flame retardants (SiAPP-NH 2 @MOF-Cu). Subsequently, TPU composites were prepared through melt blending of SiAPP-NH 2 @MOF-Cu with TPU material. The results showed that the interface interaction between SiAPP-NH 2 @MOF-Cu and the TPU matrix was significantly enhanced. Compared to pure TPU, TPU/5SAN@1MC composite exhibited decreases of 78.7%, 51.3%, 59.3%, and 58.7% in peak heat release rate, total heat release, total smoke release, and total carbon dioxide release, respectively. In addition, TPU/1SAN@1MC/rGO composite achieved an average shielding effectiveness of 13.82 dB in the X-band, enabling its broad commercial application. This study offers a promising strategy for the fabrication of TPU composites with good flame retardant and electromagnetic shielding properties.

Accurate and sensitive detection of cancer antigen 125 (CA125) is important in early ovarian cancer diagnosis and monitoring. In the present work, a novel electrochemical ratiometric immunosensor for the determination of CA125 based on three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide/multi-walled carbon nanotube carboxylic acid- thionine (3DrGO/MWCNTs-Thi) and UIO-66-NH 2 /ferrocenecarboxylic acid (UiO-66-Fc) was constructed. 3DrGO/MWCNTs-Thi of immobilized primary antibody (Ab 1 ) and UiO-66-Fc of labeled second antibody (Ab 2 ) were used as capture probes and signaling probes for CA125, respectively. As the concentration of CA125 increases, the oxidation peak currents (I Thi and I Fc ) generated by the two materials were changed in opposite directions, and therefore the ratio of the currents (I Thi /I Fc ) was negatively correlated with the concentration of CA125. Thanks to the amplification of high loading of signaling molecules by the framework nanocomposites and the ratiometric strategy, the constructed electrochemical immunosensor exhibits outstanding accuracy, stability, and sensitivity. Under optimal conditions, the detection range spanned from 0.01 U mL −1 to 80 U mL −1 , with a calculated limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0089 U mL −1 . The immunosensor was successfully applied to real serum sample tests, indicating its potential for clinical detection applications.

Herein, we proposed a novel bioenzyme-free dual-mode sensing strategy for the rapid and accurate monitoring of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) by preparing tris(2,2′-bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy) 3 2+ ) encapsulated with UiO-66-NH 2 MOFs as nanozyme (Ru@Zr-MOFs). The as-prepared Ru@Zr-MOFs nanozyme not only exhibits superior peroxidase-like activity which can catalyze O-phenylenediamine (OPD) oxidation to generate yellow 2,3-diaminophenazinc, but also exhibits dual-fluorescence feature (at 442 and 612 nm respectively) and specific interaction capacity with OPs. However, in the existence of OPs, the peroxidase-like activity of Ru@Zr-MOFs nanozyme is restricted and the oxidation process of OPD is stopped; meanwhile, the fluorescence of Ru@Zr-MOFs at 442 nm increases rapidly (< 10 s) while that at 612 nm is apathetic, thus a colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent sensing strategy was first designed to detect OPs by using glyphosate (Gly) as a typical model of OPs. Then, in consideration of the benefits of smartphone which can make the sensing process more convenient, stable, rapid and sensitive feedback, a smartphone coupled with hydrogel detection platform was proposed also for OPs determination. In addition, the designed sensing strategy offers superior selectivity , stability and real application capabilities. It’s thus expected the as-designed Ru@Zr-MOFs nanozyme based dual-mode sensing strategy possesses important real application for the low-cost, rapid, sensitive and accurate determination of OPs.

Living cell systems possess multiple isolated compartments that can spatially confine complex substances and shield them from each other to allow for feedback reactions. In this work, a bioinspired design of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with well-defined multishelled matrices was fabricated as a hierarchical host for multiple guest substances including fluorogenic molecules and catalytic nanoparticles (NPs) at the separated locations for the development of a dual-mode glycoprotein assay. The multispatial-compartmental zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) constituents were synthesized via epitaxial shell-by-shell overgrowth to guide the integration and spatial organization of host guests. The specific property toward glycoprotein recognition was guaranteed by both the antibody–antigen recognition and covalent bonding through boronate-glycan affinity, and the immediate signal responses were initiated by textural collapse of the ZIF-8 integrity. In addition, the inner micropore and the enclosed space of ZIF-8 can avoid the surpassed contact between molecular substances and catalytic entities, inherently. Furthermore, multishelled ZIF-8 can function as a hierarchical matrix for hosting abundant fluorogenic substrates and a large number of catalytic Pt-shelled Au (AuPt) NPs, which can signify its signal amplification means, while upon the stimuli-responsive framework collapse, the signal generators can be harvested in the on-demand manner. Besides, endowing Pt shells on inert plasmonic NPs can not only mimic peroxidase-like catalytic behavior involved in a fluorogenic catalytic reaction to generate fluorescence signals but also function as scattering signal reporters, which can also signify the dynamic light scattering output signals. Collectively, our proposed method may provide a new thought in combining the well-defined multishelled MOF matrices for dual-signal generators in a stimuli-responsive manner, which can also reinforce the accurate detection capability for the glycoprotein assay.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials-based membranes with artificial transfer channels have shown significant potential for selective separation. However, the challenges such as uncontrollable interlayer spacing and undesirable molecular sieving capabilities of 2D channels have impeded their further application in separation. Inspired by biological selectivity transport channels with proper steric and affinity sites, herein we have designed biomimetic 2D selective transport channels based on a ZIF-L nanosheet membrane. In this design, the UiO-66-NH 2 nanoparticles tune the appropriate interlayer confinement and compensate for laminate framework defects of 2D selectivity transport channels, the artificial imprinting recognition sites establishes the essential chemical environment for specific separation. As a result, the obtained MOFs nanosheet based membranes with imprinted recognition sites (MN-IMs) exhibited enhanced permeation flux ( J = 1.0847 × 10 −3 and 1.0423 × 10 −3 mg min −1 cm −2 ) and permselectivity ( α = 3.77 and 4.10), outperforming state-of-the-art similar technologies. Besides, the composite MOFs demonstrated good photoinduced self-recovery ability, which also enables MN-IMs to have long-lasting selective separation performance (the separation efficiency is 90.76 %) in the continuous separation process. This study introduces a novel design strategy for developing sophisticated 2D materials-based membranes and offers new insights into the precise separation of specific molecules.

Lignin represents a significant source of aromatic hydrocarbons in the natural world. The production of high-value chemicals from lignin has the great potential to effectively address the issue of fossil energy scarcity. In this study, complex sulfides of nickel‑cobalt bimetallic catalysts were prepared via hydrothermal synthesis and subsequently employed in the catalytic hydrogenolysis of C O bonds present in lignin. A series of complex sulfides Ni 3 S 2 /Co 3 S 4 -CS n -x-T derived from lignin-MOF ( n = 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2; x = 2, 4 and 6; T = 400, 500, 600 and 700 °C), were prepared under different conditions and subsequently employed in the catalytic hydrogenolysis of lignin model compounds. The optimal catalyst Ni 3 S 2 /Co 3 S 4 -CS 1 –4-500 exhibited the highest conversion rate of benzyl phenyl ether (BPE) (about 97.3 %), and the yields of toluene and phenol produced were 49.5 % and 43.6 %, respectively with isopropanol as the reaction solvent and no external H 2 . The introduction of element sulfur in catalysts could effectively inhibit the further hydrogenation of generated aromatic chemicals. The catalysts were well characterized, and the results demonstrated that the catalysts exhibited high catalytic activity with an increased loading of active components. This study provided some novel findings for the construction of biomass-based catalysts and the production lignin-derived aromatic chemicals.

A novel proposal is introduced with an unlabeled electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of tumor broad-spectrum biomarker vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF165) Copper-based metal organic frameworks (Cu MOFs)-carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were employed as its substrates, functionalized with methylene blue (MB) for signal enhancement. Cu-MOFs-MWCNTs nanocomposites were synthesized successfully via a solvothermal method and were then deposited on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), with the addition of methylene blue to amplify the signal. Due to the expansive specific surface area provided by the carbon nanotubes and the amino groups facilitated by the metal–organic framework nanomaterials, the anti-VEGF165 monoclonal antibody was immobilized on the electrochemical immunosensor through covalent bonding, which could bind specifically to VEGF165, thereby causing a detectable change in the current. The developed immunosensor exhibited a linear detection range for VEGF165 spanning from 1 to 100,000 pg/ml, with the R 2 value of 0.997 by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method, and the limit of detection was as low as 0.9686. Additionally, the electrochemical immunosensor presented commendable selectivity, availability, and reproducibility, along with an effective capacity for detecting VEGF165 in clinical samples. Consequently, the immunosensor is expected to revolutionize early screening for VEGF165-related diseases, which offer a promising, cost-effective, and precise diagnostic tool for clinical utility. High-performance mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) featuring with superior permselectivity and easy processability are highly demanded toward the effective pervaporation recovery of bio-alcohols, however their development still remains a huge challenge. In this work, a self-standing and exceptional zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8)@Aramid nanofiber/Polydimethylsiloxane (Z@A/P) MMM was constructed via an ingenious “three-dimensional (3D) connecting MOFs pre-forming & polymer backfilling” coupling strategy. The preformed hybrid aerogel network (ZIF-8@Aramid nanofiber) not only exhibited a desirable interfacial compatibility with PDMS but also facilitated ZIF-8 particles to form interconnected 3D long-range consecutive MOF phases across the MMM. Moreover, benefiting from the combination of highly permeable and selective molecular inner channels of ZIF-8 nanoparticles along with their formed continuous and fast transport pathways deriving from the long-range connected assembly phases, the pervaporation performance of the resulting MMMs was greatly enhanced compared to that of physical blending-obtained MMM counterpart. Particularly, an excellent total flux of 935 g m −2 h −1 along with a high separation factor of 19.6 was achieved for the optimized Z@A/P4 MMM even with a relatively low loading of 4.9 wt% for pervaporation recovery of n -butanol from its 1.5 wt% aqueous solution. Therefore, this novel fabrication strategy opens up a new avenue to achieve the high-performance MMMs with the 3D interconnected long-range consecutive MOF phases across the membrane toward the efficient bio-alcohols recovery and other related fields.

Xylanase is a natural and high-efficiency catalyst for the degradation of xylan to reducing sugar. However, the catalytic performance of xylanase is greatly limited by its poor activity and stability at the harsh condition. To overcome this issue, covalent immobilization of xylanase on a magnetic porous MOFs material with core-shell structure, UIO-66-NH2 carrier was applied to improve the catalytic activity and stability of xylanase. Several tools were employed to monitor the preparation and immobilization processes, magnetic properties, and the structural/chemical characteristics of the biocatalyst. 77.9% of the activity for xylanase was retained after immobilization. Moreover, the thermal stability in terms of half-life of the immobilized enzyme was three times higher than that in free form, and which had higher catalytic efficiency for hydrolysis of xylan. Furthermore, the greater temperature and wider pH ranges of the activity stability were achieved for the immobilized xylanase in compared with free one. Notably, the biocatalyst exhibits both excellent storage stability and could be easily separated using a magnet, which is conducive for its reusability. And nearly 70% of its initial activity was retained after seven recycles during the hydrolysis of corn straw. These features indicate that the present immobilization method is promising prospect for the industrial application of enzyme.
