Lactate is a key metabolite and prognostic biomarker, reflecting oxygen delivery, cellular demand, and mitochondrial function. Current clinical lactate monitoring, however, relies on intermittent blood sampling, limiting localized interrogation, dynamic tracking and early intervention in critical care. Here, we report a bioresorbable and flexible electrochemical sensor for continuous deep-tissue lactate monitoring. By leveraging a previously unreported enzyme-assisted proton-intercalation mechanism, we establish a unique electrochemical sensing interface that enables high-performance lactate detection entirely with biodegradable materials. Integrated with a wireless module, the device enables in vivo real-time recording with excellent sensitivity and stable operation over clinically relevant timescales (> 10 days), without requiring secondary surgeries for device retrieval. The sensor robustly captures organ-specific lactate dynamics during hypoxia and epileptic seizures. Notably, we identify that increases in pericardial lactate precede systemic changes detected by conventional monitoring in septic shock, providing a prominent marker for early warning and timely intervention. Pericardial lactate-guided treatment markedly improves hemodynamic stability and prevents septic shock within the monitoring window. This work enables paradigm-shifting strategies for bioresorbable, implantable sensors that monitor vital metabolites in real time, supporting early diagnosis, guided intervention and improved outcomes in intensive care.

P2-type cathode materials with good rate performance show significant potential for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), but their low theoretical capacity limits further development. Here, the Na₀.₇₂Cu₀.₂₁Mn₀.₆₇Li₀.₀₆Ti₀.₀₆O₂ cathode layered material is elaborately designed, and the oxygen redox reaction of the oxygen anions gradually shifts from O²⁻ to O₂⁻ via the synergistic modulation of Li⁺ and Ti⁴⁺, especially at a higher voltage, achieving high-capacity Co/Ni-free SIBs. Notably, the NCMLT electrode delivers a capacity of 127.1 mAh·g⁻¹ after 200 cycles at the 1 C, and attains an outstanding capacity retention of 89.86%. Additionally, the metal oxide cost of the synthesized material is relatively low. Thus, this work provides a new approach to design the cathode for high-performance SIBs and offers a value for further development.

A portable, high-throughput visual sensing platform was constructed for the effective detection of catechol (CA), on the basis of the single-electrode electrochemistry system (SEES) and a self-enhanced electrochemiluminescence (SEECL) material, namely Au-Ru@Zn metal-organic framework (MOF). It was found that Ru(bpy) 3 2+ and oxalate co‑encapsulated within the Ru@Zn MOF generated a SEECL signal. To further amplify the SEECL response, tripropylamine (TPA) was introduced as an exogenous co-reactant, synergizing with endogenous oxalate to establish dual ECL pathways. The oxidation product of CA, semiquinone radicals, is proposed to effectively quenched photoexcited Ru(bpy) 3 2+ * species and competitively consume the precursor Ru(bpy) 3 3+ by reducing it to Ru(bpy) 3 2+ , thereby causing the ECL signals of Au-Ru@Zn MOF to be significantly quenched. Under optimal experimental conditions, the Au-Ru@Zn MOF-modified SEES exhibited excellent ECL response performance toward CA, with a linear detection range from 1.0 × 10⁻ 9 to 5.0 × 10⁻ 4 mol·L⁻ 1 and a detection limit as low as 7.94 × 10⁻ 10 mol·L⁻ 1 (S/ N = 3). Additionally, the proposed SEES successfully detected CA in tea with the recoveries ranging from 98.8% to 101.0%. This work offers a novel approach for the sensitive detection of CA and has significant application possibilities in the realm of food safety monitoring with the benefits of high throughput, portability, and low cost. Solid polymer electrolytes are attractive for solid-state lithium metal batteries due to their flexibility and safety but suffer from low ionic conductivity and unstable interfaces. Conventional polymerization-induced phase separation strategies enhance ion transport yet rely on external components such as deep eutectic solvents or ionic liquids, increasing cost and complexity. Here, a LiTFSI-mediated in-situ polymerization strategy is developed to induce controllable phase separation in a poly(vinylene carbonate) matrix using a single solvent. Electrostatic interactions between lithium salts and the polymer drive self-organized dual phases that combine mechanical robustness with efficient ion transport. The resulting PVC electrolyte achieves a tunable ionic conductivity from 0.20 to 0.92 mS/cm at 25 °C and a high lithium-ion transference number of 0.78. Li|PVC-24h | LiFePO 4 cells achieve 121.4 mAh/g at 5 C (12 min) with 90% capacity retention after 4000 cycles, demonstrating a scalable approach for high-performance polymer electrolytes.

Flexible perovskite solar cells and modules are limited by buried-interface nonuniformity and the thickness-sensitive, aggregation-prone nature of conventional small-molecule self-assembled monolayers, which create local recombination hot spots and crack-initiated degradation during large-area coating and bending. Here we introduce asymmetric polymeric self-assembled layers based on poly(4-(3-phenyl-9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl phosphate) (Poly-3Ph-4PACz), a polycarbazole phosphonic acid featuring rigid phenyl-carbazole units and multiple anchoring sites. The polymeric architecture yields a dense, highly wetting and electrically homogeneous hole-selective contact with enhanced interfacial dipole and strong perovskite binding, enabling uniform crystallization, reduced non-radiative losses and effective stress buffering. Flexible devices reach 26.13% champion power conversion efficiency, while 57.6 cm 2 flexible modules deliver 22.22%. Encapsulated modules retain 97.23% after 3000 bending cycles and show damp-heat resilience with T 95 > 1000 h at 85 °C/85% RH. Beyond flexibility, Poly-3Ph-4PACz enables 27.18% rigid inverted perovskite solar cells (certified mean steady-state 27.12%) and a certified 32.95% perovskite/Si tandem efficiency. These results establish polymeric self-assembly as a scalable route to high-efficiency, durable flexible photovoltaics.

Nanoscale twin boundaries (TBs) effectively restrict the free motion of dislocations by intersecting with other TBs to realize high strength. However, the dislocations parallel to the TBs can glide along the TBs, resulting in detwinning for low strength. Herein, we present a triple-interlocked-nanotwinned (TIT) strategy for overcoming these inherent deficiencies. An Mg-9Li alloy was used as a proof-of-concept. The treated alloy had a large volume fraction of TIT interfaces (65.7%). It not only had a high yield strength of 508.6 MPa (approximately eleven times higher than that of the TIT-free sample) but also offered unprecedented ageing resistance, with a reduction in hardness of 6% after 730 days. The martensite-like phase transformation process concurrently triggers multiple-variant twins to form TIT structures. These TIT nets can effectively prohibit dislocation motion, reduce strengthening anisotropy, and disperse localized stress during the deformation process. This strategy of phase transformation twinning open a gate to fabricate other stronger metallic or ceramic nanotwinned bulk materials.

The photocatalytic efficiency of covalent organic frameworks is often limited by poor charge separation and inaccessible catalytic sites. Here, we overcome these challenges by constructing a biomimetic “alveoli-on-lamina” heterostructure through coordination-directed assembly. This strategy concurrently exfoliates a bulk covalent organic framework into ordered lamellae and creates atomic-scale Co-N/O bridges, anchoring high-density, atomically dispersed cobalt sites. Crucially, this architecture spontaneously generates a multi-scale electric field, integrating a strong interfacial field for charge separation with an intra-structure potential gradient for directional electron transport. This field-driven vectorial charge flow delivers electrons to the catalytic sites, enabling a competitive photocatalytic performance: a hydrogen evolution rate of 534.6 mmol g -1 h -1 under standard irradiation without noble metals, an apparent quantum yield of 90.2% at 500 nm, and retained stability. This work demonstrates that engineering built-in electric fields across multiple scales is a valuable paradigm for advanced solar-to-fuel conversion.

Purpose This study explores the use of basalt fibers (BF) reinforcement and Stabilization/Solidification (S/S) technology with sustainable solid waste-based binder to treat high-moisture dredged sediments, aiming to utilize them as backfill materials in marine reclamation or urban underground projects. Materials and methods The research utilized a novel phosphogypsum-based binder to solidify sediments with high moisture content. A series of flow tests, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests were conducted to evaluate the reinforcing effects of BF on the flowability, mechanical properties, and micro-mechanisms of solidified dredged sediments. Meanwhile, the environmental and economic impacts were also analyzed. Results and discussion Results demonstrate that the flowability of solidified sediments decreases with BF or binder addition but increases with initial moisture content. It can be adjusted using a superplasticizer to meet liquid backfill requirements. The inclusion of BF significantly enhances the mechanical performance of solidified sediments. At 0.1% BF content and 6 mm BF length, the 28 d UCS values of solidified sediments increase from 1045.28 kPa (without BF) to 1454.78 kPa, representing a 39.18% increase. Moreover, 0.1% BF content and 3 mm BF length are identified as the optimal combination for improving the UCS of solidified sediments. Microstructural analysis confirms that incorporating BF promotes the formation of a dense matrix and suppresses crack propagation. Notably, the novel BF-reinforced backfill material reduces costs by 9.80% and CO₂ emissions by 67.63%, compared with OPC-based materials. Conclusion Overall, these findings offer innovative insights into high-moisture sediment S/S and fiber reinforcement, providing a theoretical reference for its sustainable use in geotechnical engineering.

This study systematically investigates the intricate mechanism by which Mg 2 ⁺ and W 6 ⁺ co-doping affects the crystal structure and microwave/terahertz dielectric properties of ixiolite-type ZnTiNb 2 O 8 (ZTN) ceramics. A series of doped ZTN ceramics were prepared via the solid-state reaction method, with doping concentrations ranging from 3 to 15 mol%. The incorporation of Mg 2+ and W 6+ ions into the ZTN lattice was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and subsequent Rietveld refinement, resulting in a significant expansion of the lattice parameters. The dielectric constant (ε r ) of the co-doped ceramics decreased gradually with increasing doping content, which can be attributed to the reduced ionicity of Nb–O bonds and the lower molecular polarizability caused by ion substitution. Notably, an optimal quality factor (Q × f) of approximately 39300 GHz (@6.6 GHz) was achieved at a 9 mol% doping level. At 12 mol%, the sample achieved an excellent Q × f value approaching 39050 GHz in the terahertz band (@ 0.84 THz). This enhancement is explained by the increased lattice energy and improved structural stability caused by the co-doping. Furthermore, the τ f value shifted from − 68.4 to − 47.1 ppm/°C with increasing Mg/W content, which is associated with the reduced thermal expansion coefficient and enhanced stability of the oxygen-polyhedral framework. These results provide a theoretical basis for designing high-performance microwave and terahertz dielectric materials.

Cancer stemness, sustained by mitochondrial metabolic plasticity, drives immunotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer (CRC). We reengineer zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), a zinc-coordination-driven metal-organic framework, from inert nanocarrier to a multifunctional mitochondrial synchronizer that disrupts stemness through tripartite bioenergetic targeting. A hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified nanoarchitecture (HA/ZGA) co-delivers glucose oxidase (GOx) and 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA), leveraging ZIF-8’s intrinsic Zn 2+ release for dual metabolic blockade: Zn 2+ inhibits glucose transporters and electron transport chain activity, while GOx depletes glucose to amplify energy stress. Concurrently, 5-ALA enables cristae-confined photodynamic ROS generation, collapsing oxidative phosphorylation and silencing pluripotency regulators. This metabolic triad coordinately eradicates stemness, reverses PD-L1/CD44 co-expression, and triggers cytotoxic T cell infiltration. In translational models, HA/ZGA achieves potent tumor regression, suppresses metastasis, and establishes immunological memory against rechallenge. Our work redefines ZIF-8 as a therapeutic chameleon that dismantles mitochondrial energetics, ablates stemness, and reignites antitumor immunity, exemplifying nanomaterial repurposing to bridge metabolic intervention with immune potentiation. The discovery of natural phosphodiesterase 1 (PDE1) inhibitors from Pinus-tree associated microbes faces critical bottlenecks: the inability to culture uncultured species in situ and the inefficiency of traditional activity screening. To overcome these challenges, we developed a miniaturized in situ cultivation device for direct insertion into plant tissues, enabling targeted isolation of uncultured microbes. Complementing this, a novel filter paper chromogenic (FPC) method was designed to simultaneously detect PDE1 inhibitory activity during microbial cultivation. By integrating these approaches, we rapidly screened bioactive strains from four Pinus species ( P. tabuliformis , P. armandii , P. bungeana , and P. massoniana ), isolating 88 actinomycetes and 2 fungi. Notably, the FPC method demonstrated high consistency with UV-based assays in 96-well plates, validating its reliability for real-time activity monitoring. Strain YSTR-10, identified as Penicillium sp., exhibited significant PDE1 inhibition. Subsequent chemical characterization of YSTR-10 yielded four compounds 4-(2-hydroxybutynyloxy)benzoic acid ( 1 ), p-hydroxyacetophenone ( 2 ), penicilazaphilone B ( 3 ), and graminin B ( 4 ), with graminin B (4) showing moderate inhibitory activity (61.32% at 100.0 µg/mL). This study not only pioneers a dual-method framework for efficient enzyme inhibitor discovery but also highlights the untapped potential of plant-associated microbiota in drug development.

Full-colour ultrahigh-resolution quantum dot light-emitting diodes (URQLEDs) with high efficiency and stability are required for next-generation near-eye displays 1 , 2 , 3 . However, existing quantum dot (QD) patterning techniques struggle to simultaneously achieve submicrometre pixel sizes, full-colour integration and high device performance. Here we report a dual-action force dynamics (DAFD) strategy using a hard silicon template as a nanoimprinting stamp, combined with integral inverted transfer printing. This approach enables red–green–blue (RGB) full-colour QD pixel arrays with densities in the range 9,072–25,400 pixels per inch (PPI), maintaining high-fidelity pattern replication with a conservative transfer yield >99.9%. The method is compatible with both CdSe/ZnS and perovskite QDs on rigid and flexible substrates. Beyond patterning, we identify and address a previously underappreciated bottleneck in ultrahigh-resolution devices—electric-field non-uniformity arising from pixel microstructures. Matching the dielectric constant of the leakage-current-blocking layer to that of the QDs by means of TiO 2 nanoparticle incorporation yields a more uniform electric-field distribution, effectively suppressing edge effects and enhancing both efficiency and operational stability. Red URQLEDs at 12,700 PPI achieved a peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 26.1% and an operational lifetime T 95 @1,000 cd m − 2 of 65,190 h. Comparable enhancements in device performance were obtained for green and blue URQLEDs, with EQE improvements of 124% and 119%, respectively. RGB-pixelated white URQLEDs reached a peak EQE of 10.1%. By integrating these URQLEDs with complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuits, we demonstrated solution-processed active-matrix URQLED animated displays.
