Multiple crosslinking-Stretch-induced multi-level orientation structure BNNS/Ca-SA/D films with high thermal conductive performance

Zhengyang Miao,Guangzheng Zhu,Lei Yang,Peng Ding,Fang Jiang

Polymer-based thermally conductive composites have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their critical applications in areas of national strategic importance. Nevertheless, the inherently limited thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of polymers pose challenges to their practical application. Recent research indicates that employing exogenous methods and facilitating molecular-level interactions between fillers and cross-linkers are effective strategies to overcome these limitations. In this study, with the aid of the ionic effect during the sol-gel phase transition of aqueous sodium alginate molecules in the presence of divalent cations and biaxial stretching, combined with the hydrogen bonding between boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) with excellent thermal conductivity and sodium alginate (SA) molecules, the BNNS-calcium alginate (BNNS/Ca-SA/D) films were constructed by the strategy of gel reconstruction, rehydration, evaporation-assisted self-assembly and biaxial stretching. By designing anisotropic structures with closely aligned interconnected BNNS (Herman orientation parameter as high as 0.865), the BNNS/Ca-SA/D films with a BNNS loading of 40 wt% were characterized by high in-plane thermal conductivity (45.50 W•m −1 •K −1 ) and good mechanical properties. Combined with finite element analysis to simulate the heat transfer process, the “thermo-mechanical” coupled multilevel oriented structure composite films were constructed due to the densification arrangement and the increase of interfacial adhesion during multiple cross-linking processes, and the orientation arrangement of BNNS during the tensile-induced process. The potential of the BNNS/Ca-SA/D films developed in this study for thermal management applications has been demonstrated by the practical application of thermal management devices and the human body. The polymer-based thermally conductive films developed in this paper offer promising applications for thermal management systems in modern power electronics.

Synergistic enhancement of NC-GCN/Ag2O photocatalytic reduction of uranium by D-A and p-n junction structures

Zhouzhou Li,Zheng Li,Feng He,Wen He,Qixu Chen,Hongqing Wang

Recently, how to improve the photocatalytic uranium removal performance of Graphite-phase carbon nitride (GCN) has always been a hot research topic. In this paper, a new strategy based on p-n junction and D-A structure is proposed to improve the photocatalytic performance. And as a result, a novel cyano modified photocatalytic material NC-GCN/Ag 2 O was designed and prepared for the reduction of U(VI). Interestingly, the material shows better adsorption performance for U(VI) in the dark treatment stage, and its removal of U(VI) is close to 70 % under the initial U(VI) concentration of 20 ppm and the solid–liquid ratio of 0.2 g/L. And the adsorption is in accordance with the Langmuir model and Pseudo second order model. After 30 min of illumination, the removal rate of U(VI) can reach 93.2 %, significantly higher than that of GCN (13.6 %) and NC-GCN 10 (37.7 %). It’s worth mentioning that photocatalytic reduction dominated the adsorption-reduction process for U(VI) removal after light exposure. In addition, after four cycles, the removal of U(VI) from the composite material decreased by only 5 % with no change in the crystal structure, i.e., it has good reusability and stability. Meanwhile, there was no significant interference with other ions except for Cu 2+ and V 5+ , which had a weak interference. Finally, a new mechanism for U(Ⅵ) reduction was proposed.

Tailoring the d-band center on Ru1Cu single-atom alloy nanotubes for boosting electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose sensing

Zhang Shuang,Jiang Yunhao,Lei Wenli,Zhai Yueming,Liu Juejing,Lyu Xingyi,Li Tao,Guo Xiaofeng,Zhao Yuanmeng,Shan Changsheng,Niu Li

The development of cost-effective and highly efficient electrocatalysts is critical to help electrochemical non-enzymatic sensors achieve high performance. Here, a new class of catalyst, Ru single atoms confined on Cu nanotubes as a single-atom alloy (Ru 1 Cu NTs), with a unique electronic structure and property, was developed to construct a novel electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose sensor for the first time. The Ru 1 Cu NTs with a diameter of about 24.0 nm showed a much lower oxidation potential (0.38 V) and 9.0-fold higher response (66.5 μA) current than Cu nanowires (Cu NWs, oxidation potential 0.47 V and current 7.4 μA) for glucose electrocatalysis. Moreover, as an electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose sensor, Ru 1 Cu NTs not only exhibited twofold higher sensitivity (54.9 μA mM −1  cm −2 ) and wider linear range (0.5–8 mM) than Cu NWs, but also showed a low detection limit (5.0 μM), excellent selectivity, and great stability. According to theoretical calculation results, the outstanding catalytic and sensing performance of Ru 1 Cu NTs could be ascribed to the upshift of the d-band center that helped promote glucose adsorption. This work presents a new avenue for developing highly active catalysts for electrochemical non-enzymatic sensors. Graphical Abstract

Protective action of selenium-enriched black garlic extract in rats with lipopolysaccharide/D-galactosamine-induced acute liver failure

Zhi-guo Wu,Nan Jin,Yu-feng Deng,Xin-fang Shen,Cui-yun Liu,Bao-yue Ding,Long-hua Guo,Yun-xiao Liu,Zhen-rong Huang,Lei Li,Shui-lin Sun,Bao-gang Xie

The contents of selenomethionine (SeMet) and selenomethylcysteine (SeMC) in Selenium-Enriched black garlic extract (Se-BGE), a popular functional food in Asian countries, were 2.9 ± 0.6 μg/g and 12.2 ± 2.3 μg/g by PITC pre-column derivatization UPLC-MS method. Improved histological injury, significant extension of the median survival time, and attenuated serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, total bilirubin and SOD activity were observed in the acute liver failure (ALF) rats treated with Se-BGE (1.0 g/mL). 1 HNMR-based metabonomics revealed that serum levels of lactate, pyruvate, betaine, choline, taurine, and glycine were restored, and 16S rDNA sequencing analysis showed that the composition and number of the intestinal flora were regressed to healthy levels in ALF rats treated by Se-BGE. Serum choline and betaine showed significant correlations with g_Lactobacillus and g_Escherichia. Our findings demonstrated that Se-BGE protects against LPS/D-GalN-induced ALF in rats, possibly due to antioxidation, metabolism, and intestinal flora regulations of Se-BGE.

D-Band Width Rationally Broadened by Configuring Nearest Coordination of Metal Site for Enhanced Active Site-Intermediate Interaction

Jing Li,Xiaotao Zhang,Jinpeng Li,Xiaoyu Zheng,Minghui Li,Jiadong Zhou,Erhong Song,Yao Zhou

Metal-based site, as an important type of active site, plays the benchmarking role in the redox and charge transfer processes in the heterogeneous catalysis. Modulating the valence state of metal site as a promising and simple strategy theoretically enables control over the adsorption strength of reaction intermediates. However, this strategy is intrinsically limited by the local atomic configuration, often leading to unpredictable catalytic failures. Here, it is reported that the intermediate adsorption strength of platinum active site with different valence states exhibits a linear relationship with the d-band width of Pt (W d -Pt ). Adjusting the nearest-neighbor coordination environment of Pt sites by changing the transition metals bonded to Pt effectively modulates the W d -Pt , which offers a high activity (η 10 = 14 mV) in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). W d -Pt broadening elevates the Pt─H anti-bonding states across the Fermi level, strengthening active site-absorbate interactions and thereby tuning HER catalytic activity. In addition, this d-band width engineering strategy can be expanded to other catalysts with the metal active site. The present study transcends limitations in valence state modulation and sheds light on deeper understanding of d-band structure of metal sites and a methodology to boost the activity of metal sites in heterogeneous catalysis.

Helicobacter pylori East Asian type CagA hijacks more SHIP2 by its EPIYA-D motif to potentiate the oncogenicity

Xiaofei Ji,Qianwen Wu,Xinying Cao,Shuzhen Liu,Jianhui Zhang,Si Chen,Jiangfan Shan,Ying Zhang,Boqing Li,Huilin Zhao

CagA is a significant oncogenic factor injected into host cells by Helicobacter pylori, which is divided into two subtypes: East Asian type (CagAE), characterized by the EPIYA-D motif, and western type (CagAW), harboring the EPIYA-C motif. CagAE has been reported to have higher carcinogenicity than CagAW, although the underlying reason is not fully understood. SHIP2 is an intracellular phosphatase that can be recruited by CagA to perturb the homeostasis of intracellular signaling pathways. In this study, we found that SHIP2 contributes to the higher oncogenicity of CagAE. Co-Immunoprecipitation and Pull-down assays showed that CagAE bind more SHIP2 than CagAW. Immunofluorescence staining showed that a higher amount of SHIP2 recruited by CagAE to the plasma membrane catalyzes the conversion of PI(3,4,5)P3 into PI(3,4)P2. This alteration causes higher activation of Akt signaling, which results in enhanced IL-8 secretion, migration, and invasion of the infected cells. SPR analysis showed that this stronger interaction between CagAE and SHIP2 stems from the higher affinity between the EPIYA-D motif of CagAE and the SH2 domain of SHIP2. Structural analysis revealed the crucial role of the Phe residue at the Y + 5 position in EPIYA-D. After mutating Phe of CagAE into Asp (the corresponding residue in the EPIYA-C motif) or Ala, the activation of downstream Akt signaling was reduced and the malignant transformation of infected cells was alleviated. These findings revealed that CagAE hijacks SHIP2 through its EPIYA-D motif to enhance its carcinogenicity, which provides a better understanding of the higher oncogenic risk of H. pylori CagAE.

One-pot synthesis of fluorescent nanoprobes based on D-cys-based CDs and quantitative detection of lysine enantiomers

Jinqiu Li,Fanghao Wang,Hao Zhang,Duxia Cao,Ruifang Guan

The recognition of amino acid enantiomers is of great significance in drug research and disease diagnosis. However, the similar physical and chemical properties of enantiomers make chiral recognition challenging. Optical characterization is a promising approach to distinguish enantiomers. Carbon dots (CDs) have attracted widespread attention due to their simple synthesis, high economic benefits, and good biocompatibility. Chiral carbon dots, as fluorescent probes, have gradually received more attraction. Here, a fluorescence probe (CYS-CDs + Cu 2+ ) was constructed using D-Cys as chiral source to synthesize chiral carbon dots (CYS-CDs), and Cu 2+ as inducer to recognize the chirality of lysine enantiomers(L-/D-Lys). And then, based on the ability of Cu 2+ to quench the fluorescence of CYS-CDs and L-Lysine (L-Lys) could restore the fluorescence of the CYS-CDs + Cu 2+ probe, so achieve an “on–off-on” detection mode to detect L-Lys. On the contrary, D-Lys cannot restore the fluorescence of CYS-CDs + Cu 2+ . The probe can distinguish lysine enantiomers not only by fluorescence spectra but also by circular dichroism spectra. And, the probe can be used for the quantitative detection of L-Lys by fluorescence method, of which the detection range is 0–520 μM, and the limit of detection is only 13.70 μM. In addition, a paper-based fluorescent senor was constructed on this basis. This work may be of practical significance to expand the recognition method of amino acid enantiomers.

High ionic conductivity in Li4(BH4) 3I/(d-BN) solid electrolytes through synergistic defect engineering and phase stabilization

Ziqiang Wu,Jinhu Wang,Kaiwen Wang,Zhuoqi Gong,Yihao Hu,Haoran Zhou,Tengyu Chen,Kaiqi Zhao,Lu Xia,Yingtang Zhou,Yao Zhang

Solid electrolytes offer a transformative solution to the safety challenges that have long hindered conventional lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which rely on organic liquid electrolytes. Among them, hydride-based materials such as LiBH 4 stand out due to their exceptional electrochemical stability and strong compatibility with anode materials. However, their inherently poor ionic conductivity at room temperature (RT, ~10 −8  S cm −1 ) remains a critical bottleneck, primarily attributed to the rigid crystalline framework of hydride structures, which impedes lithium-ion diffusion. In this study, we overcome this limitation by introducing defective hexagonal boron nitride (d-BN) and iodine solutes into a LiBH 4 matrix.(i.e. Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/2(d-BN)) This strategic integration induces structural deformation in the BH 4 tetrahedra, creating optimized pathways for enhanced lithium-ion transport. As a result, the composite achieves an impressive ionic conductivity of 5.9 × 10 −4  S cm −1 at 40 °C and 4.0 × 10 −4  S cm −1 at 25 °C, approaching the conductivity requirement for the commercialization of solid-state electrolyte batteries (10 −3  S cm −1 ), positioning this material among the highest-performing solid hydride electrolytes to date. Mechanistic insights from density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed that iodine and BN incorporation weakens Li B interactions, extends Li H bond lengths, and reduces the energy barrier for Li-ions migration. In addition, this gain in conductivity is accompanied by a strong cycling performance (The capacity retention rate of the optimized TiS 2 |Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/2d-BN|Li battery exceeds 86 % after 30 charge-discharge cycles at 0.1C). These findings highlight the promise of Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/d-BN composites as efficient solid-state electrolytes for next-generation energy storage applications.

Bimetallic active sites with tailored d-bands boost multistep sulfur redox reactions for enhanced lithium-sulfur battery performance

Wei Wang,Jianguo Si,Liguo Yue,Weicai Zhang,Qingqing Chen,Haoliang Huang,Fei Lin,Yang Zhao,Sheng Meng,Lifeng Liu

The shuttle effect and sluggish redox kinetics of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) are generally regarded as main obstacles to practical applications of the promising high energy density lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Using electrocatalysts to expedite LiPSs conversion during charge/discharge has recently become an effective approach to improving LSB performance, but developing highly efficient catalysts active for bidirectional LiPSs conversion both involving multiple electron transfer steps remains a great challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of a new composite electrocatalyst consisting of bimetallic nickel/cobalt metal–organic frameworks (Ni/Co-MOF) anchored on highly dispersed amino-modified MXene (Ti 3 C 2 -NH 2 , i.e., TCN) supports through a simple one-step hydrothermal method. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that incorporating both Ni and Co species into MOF results in significant electronic coupling effect, making the d-band centers of Ni and Co sites in Ni/Co-MOF@TCN become comparable and the composite catalyst shows similar adsorption and dissociation capability toward LiPSs. Such a synergy between Ni and Co sites has been validated by comprehensive experimental characterization, which confirms that Ni/Co-MOF@TCN has moderate binding strength for LiPSs adsorption/dissociation, so that both Ni and Co can effectively boost the kinetics and thermodynamics of the bidirectional conversion of LiPSs. Consequently, LSBs containing Ni/Co-MOF@TCN as sulfur hosts exhibit a high specific capacity of 1465 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C and excellent stability at 1 C for 600 cycles with a low decay rate of 0.052 % per cycle. Even with a high sulfur loading of 6.8 mg cm −2 and a low electrolyte/sulfur (E/S) ratio of only 5 μL mg −1 , the Ni/Co-MOF@TCN-containing LSBs can still deliver an initial areal capacity of 6.81 mAh cm −2 at 0.1 C. Moreover, Ni/Co-MOF@TCN also shows outstanding performance in single-layer Li-S pouch cells.

The Phase Equilibria of Natural Gas Hydrate in the Presence of 1,3-Dimethylcyclohexane and Octyl-β-D-glucopyranoside

Qiang Fu,Mingqiang Chen,Weixin Pang,Zengqi Liu,Zhen Xu,Xin Lei

The thermodynamic effect of octyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (OGP) on the formation of methane-1,3-dimethylcyclohexane (DMCH) hydrate was studied in this work. The thermodynamic equilibrium hydrate formation pressures between 275.15 K and 283.15 K were measured by the isothermal pressure search method. Different OGP aqueous solutions (0, 0.1, and 1 wt%) were used in this work. The experimental results show that OGP had no obvious thermodynamic inhibition on methane-DMCH hydrate formation when its concentration was low (0.1 wt%), whereas it had an inhibition on methane-DMCH hydrate formation when its concentration was high (1 wt%). The phase equilibrium hydrate formation pressure of the methane-DMCH-OGP system is about 0.1 MPa higher than that of the methane-DMCH system. The dissociation enthalpies of methane hydrate in different solutions remained uniform, which indicates that OGP was not involved in methane-DMCH hydrate formation. This phenomenon is explained from the perspective of the molecular structure of OGP. As a renewable and biological nonionic surfactant, the concentration of OGP in the liquid phase is low, so OGP can be added to the methane-DMCH system without significant thermodynamic inhibition.

Rutin–Whey Protein Nanoparticles Inhibit D-Galactose-Induced Skeletal Muscle Dysfunction by Modulating Gut Microbiota and Metabolic Pathways

Yijing Ren,Lianyan Wang,Danyang Wang,Jian Huang,Ou Wang,Gangqiang Ding

Background: Rutin (R) is a bioactive compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but its low bioavailability limits its application. To address this problem, R was encapsulated with whey protein (W) as nanoparticles, and the potential effect and mechanism of rutin–whey protein nanoparticles (RW) on skeletal muscle dysfunction was investigated in D-galactose induced mice. Methods: R was encapsulated with W to form RW, and its characteristics like particle size, encapsulation efficiency, and bioaccessibility were evaluated. In the in vivo study, male C57BL/6J mice were treated with R, W or RW, respectively. The muscle function, hepatic antioxidant capacity, serum inflammatory levels, gut microbiota, and metabolomic profiles of mice were evaluated. Results: RW showed a uniform particle size, with an encapsulation efficiency of 68.7%. In the RW, the bioaccessibility of rutin was approximately 3.3 times that of free rutin. This in vivo study indicated that in comparison with D-galactose induced mice (model group), R, W and RW treatments could enhance hepatic antioxidative capacity and regulate inflammation levels, while W and RW could also increase muscle strength. Among these, RW treatment significantly elevated the hepatic GSH-PX activity and decreased the serum MSTN, TNF-α, and IL-6 levels, which were all markedly better than those of the individual effect of R or W. Such effects of R, W, and RW may be achieved through the modulation of gut microbiota that produced short-chain fatty acids or involved in anti-inflammatory function and the regulation of metabolic profiles associated with amino acid metabolism, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, etc. Conclusions: RW was found to enhance the bioaccessibility of rutin, and exhibited positive effects on skeletal muscle dysfunction via the modulation of gut microbiota and metabolic pathways. The results of this study may provide new scientific strategy for the utilization of rutin to achieve its health benefits.

N-acetyl-d-glucosamine decorated polymeric nanoparticles for targeted delivery of doxorubicin: Synthesis, characterization and in vitro evaluation

Baocheng Tian,Yuanyuan Ding,Jian Han,Jing Zhang,Yuzhen Han,Jingtian Han

A novel targeting drug delivery system containing poly(styrene-alt-maleic anhydride) 58 -b-polystyrene 130 (P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 ) as a copolymer backbone, N -acetyl glucosamine (NAG) as a targeting moiety was designed and synthesized. The NAG grafted copolymer (NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 ) was characterized by FTIR and 1 H NMR. The NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles exhibited spherical shapes with an average diameter about 56.27   ±   0.43   nm, low critical micelle concentration of 0.028   mg/mL, negative zeta potential −41.46   ±   0.99   mV, high drug loading 25.83   ±   1.09% and encapsulation efficiency 69.69   ±   3.98%. In vitro cell cytotoxicity was conducted to confirm the safety of the NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and flow cytometry (FCM) results showed that the NAG targeting moiety enhanced the internalization and targeting ability of NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles. Anticancer activity toward MCF-7 cells and HT29 cells showed that DOX-loaded NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles exhibited a higher antitumor activity compared to DOX-loaded P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles, which could attribute to NAG receptor-mediated endocytosis. These results suggest that the biocompatible and non-toxic NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles may be used as an effective targeting drug delivery system for cancer therapy.
