Ammonia (NH 3 ) is one of the important chemicals in human society. Conversion of air and water to NH 3 by plasma treatment and electrocatalytic reduction is a prospective approach. Herein, a self-supported CuCo/Cu nanowires (NWs) catalyst is prepared through simple electrochemical methods, achieving exceptional eNO x - RR performance: 99.8% Faradaic efficiency and 230.3 mg h -1 cm -2 NH 3 yield rate at -0.7 V vs. RHE in 1 M NaOH with 0.2 M NO x - . The 3D NWs architecture provides abundant exposed active sites, significantly improving the catalyst's NO x - reduction activity. Besides, the introduction of Co modulates the electronic structure of Cu while serving as a complementary site for active hydrogen (*H) supply, thereby synergistically promoting the eNO x - RR process. Finally, CuCo/Cu NWs serve as a bifunctional catalyst coupled with the anodic hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR) instead of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), effectively reducing the energy consumption of the eNO x - RR system and achieving a greener and energy conservation route for the synthesis of NH 3 .

With the massive penetration of electronics into human life, higher demands are placed on electrical contacts. Among them, the lifetime of electrical contacts and safety are the most concerning. In this research, Al2O3-Cu/25Mo5Ta and 0.5Y2O3/Al2O3-Cu/25Mo5Ta composites were prepared by using ball milling and powder metallurgy methods. The two composites were subjected to 10,000 contact opening and closing electrical contact experiments and the arc duration and arc energy were analyzed. The results show that the addition of Y2O3has a slight effect on the mechanical properties of the Al2O3-Cu/25Mo5Ta composites but has a significant effect on the electrical contact performance. Y2O3can reduce the mass loss of the electrical contacts during the electrical contact process, which prolongs their service life. The addition of Y2O3decreased the average arc duration and arc energy of the electrical contact material by 21.53% and 18.02%, respectively, under the experimental conditions of DC 30 V, 10 A. TEM results showed that nanoscale YTaO4with excellent thermal stability was generated during the sintering process, which has a positive effect on the electrical contact performance of the composites. Keywords:copper matrix composites;electrical contact;arc erosion behavior;yttrium tantalate

In order to solve the problem of easy aggregation of copper oxides in environmental remediation, it is an effective method to confine copper oxides to suitable substrates. Herein, we design a novel Cu 2 O/Cu@MXene composite with a nanoconfinement structure, and it can effectively activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to produce . OH for degradation tetracycline (TC). Results indicated that the MXene with extraordinary multilayer structure and surface negativity could fix the Cu 2 O/Cu nanoparticles in the layer spaces and suppress the agglomeration of nanoparticles. The removal efficiency of TC reached 99.14 % within 30 min, and the pseudo-first-order reaction kinetic constant was 0.1505 min −1 , which was 3.2 times that of Cu 2 O/Cu alone. The outstanding catalytic performance attributed that the MXene based on Cu 2 O/Cu@MXene could promote the adsorption of TC and electron transmittal between Cu 2 O/Cu nanoparticles. Furthermore, the degradation efficiency of TC was still over 82 % after five cycles. In addition, based on the degradation intermediates provided by LC-MS, two specific degradation pathways were proposed. This study provides a new reference for suppressing the agglomeration of nanoparticles, and broadens the application of MXene materials in the field of environmental remediation.

Sr3YCo4O10.5+δ (314-SYCO), with an unusual ordered structure and a high Curie temperature (Tc ≈ 335 K), is attracting increasing attention. Herein, to improve the electrical performance of 314-SYCO, Cu-doped Sr3YCo4−xCuxO10.5+δ (x = 0–0.8) ceramics were prepared using a solid-state reaction method. Systematic research was conducted on both the ordered phase transformation and the effects of Cu doping on the microstructure, electrical transport characteristics, and magnetic properties. For x = 0–0.4, the (103) and (215) planes were observed and combined with Rietveld refinement results for the X-ray diffraction data, confirming the formation of ordered tetragonal Sr3YCo4−xCuxO10.5+δ. This phase was formed with a mass gain of ∼0.8% and heat released at ∼1,042°C. With increasing Cu content, the concentration of hole carriers also increased, leading to a substantial reduction in electrical resistivity. The electrical resistivity decreased by 92–99% at 300 K. The polycrystalline materials have semiconducting behaviour with a three-dimensional Mott variable-range hopping mechanism. For the magnetic properties, a Hopkinson peak was observed at 319 K, and the Tc was approximately 321 K for x = 0. The magnetisation and Tc decreased with increasing Cu content, and a G-type antiferromagnetic-to-ferromagnetic phase transition occurred due to the spin state change for some Co3+ ions from high/intermediate spin to low/intermediate spin. These results lay the groundwork for refinement of the sintering procedure and doping parameters to enhance the performance of 314-SYCO in the context of current applications such as microwave absorbers and solid oxide fuel cell cathodes.

The effective capture and storage of the generated radioactive contaminant (iodine) are of great significance with the extensive use of nuclear energy. In this work, a novel Cu nanoporous aerogel (Cu-NPA) was prepared by using inorganic Cu salt as precursors. The as-prepared Cu-NPA was fully characterized in detail, and the I 2 adsorption and stability capability of Cu-NPA has been investigated in the solution. The results showed that Cu-NPA has high specific surface area and porosity. The structure of hierarchical pores is conducive to the rapid enrichment of pollutants in water. Adsorption experiments showed that Cu-NPA had ultra-high I 2 adsorption capacity (1384 mg/g) and fast equilibrium adsorption time (10 min). The I 2 in the solution (c < 1200 mg/g) can be almost completely removed. In addition, Cu-NPA exhibits good stability in the air and can be exposed to air for a long time. In general, our work demonstrated the preparation of Cu-NPA and its great potential in the field of rapidly eliminating radioactive I 2 .

Flexible thermoelectric (TE) devices have great potential in wearable electronics, but there is great challenge to realize robust TE device with high performance via feasible integration process. Herein, based on precisely printed copper patterns, a flexible p Cu 2 Se- n Ag 2 Se TE device is initially realized by in situ ion exchange reaction. The as-prepared Cu 2 Se and Ag 2 Se films possess typical hierarchical defects including atomic scale vacancies, the nanosheet fragments and microscale porous structure, which could significantly scatter phonons in wide frequency range. Accordingly, ultra-low thermal conductivity (Cu 2 Se: 0.13 W m −1 K −1 ; Ag 2 Se: 0.15 W m −1 K −1 ) and optimal ZTs (Cu 2 Se: 0.5; Ag 2 Se: 0.7) are achieved. Meanwhile, the as-fabricated p Cu 2 Se- n Ag 2 Se TE device exhibits an excellent power density of 13.4 W m −2 at a temperature gradient of 40 K, which is among the highest values of printed in-plane film devices. Furthermore, the good adhesion between TE films and porous PI substrate endowed excellent flexibility and stability of p Cu 2 Se- n Ag 2 Se devices.

Bromate is a commonly identified carcinogenic and genotoxic disinfection byproduct in water. In the present work, bimetallic Ru-Cu catalyst supported on carbon nanotube (RuCu/CNT) was prepared and the structural properties of the catalysts were characterized. The results show that the presence of Ru enhances the dispersion and reduction of Cu particles in the RuCu/CNT catalyst in comparison with the monometallic Cu catalyst supported on CNT (Cu/CNT). For electrocatalytic reaction on Cu/CNT, bromate is reduced on metallic Cu surface via a redox process. For Ru/CNT, highly active H* radicals are generated on metallic Ru surface via the Volmer process and are used for bromate reduction. As for the RuCu/CNT, bromate is reduced through two main pathways, including direct redox reaction on metallic Cu and indirect reduction by active H* radicals on Ru surface. Accordingly, RuCu/CNT exhibits the highest catalytic activity , ascribed to the synergistic effect between metallic Ru and Cu. Furthermore, the bimetallic catalyst displays much higher catalytic efficiency as compared with previously reported results. The pH, initial bromate concentration, in-situ electrochemical reduction of the electrodes and working potential have strong impacts on the removal efficiency of bromate on RuCu/CNT.

Copper (Cu) has been proved as an efficient catalyst in carbon dioxide electrochemical reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) towards hydrocarbons, but still suffers from low selectivity and poor stability. Herein, Cu-based/CxNy catalysts were fabricated by facile pyrolysis of CuNCN in sealed quartz tubes. It is found that CuNCN pyrolyzed at 300 °C (CuNCN-300) exhibits a high C 2 H 4 Faradaic efficiency of 48.5% at 500 mA cm - 2 . However, increasing the pyrolysis temperature above 400 °C gives rise to CH 4 being the predominant product and CuNCN-500 achieves CH 4 Faradaic efficiencies of 66.3% at 300 mA cm - 2 . Combining experimental and DFT calculation results, Cu 3 N plays a crucial role in the formation of C 2 H 4 , while tri-s-triazine units in CuNCN-500 reduce the barrier of *CO hydrogenation to *CHO and retard C-C coupling on Cu surface. These findings mark the significance of precise tailoring of the synergistic effect between g-C 3 N 4 and different Cu species for achieving the desired selectivity during CO 2 RR.

Summary A cheap biochar-based metal catalyst, Cu/C was prepared by employing a facile pyrolysis method and using the waste biomass resource of rice straw as C source, and was used in the transesterification reaction of soybean oil to prepare biodiesel. With the addition of copper nitrate and with a pyrolysis temperature of 400°C for the biomass precursor, the as-synthesized Cu/C-400 catalyst with a loading amount of 6 wt% in the reaction dispersion results in a biodiesel yield of 88.5% ± 1.8%. The Cu/C-400 catalyst still maintains a high activity with a biodiesel yield of 79.4% ± 1.2% after four cycles. The economic analysis about Cu/C-400 catalyzed production of 1 t biodiesel is carried out by using the life cycle cost (LCC) method, indicating that the cost of 1 t soybean biodiesel is about 7727.8 RMB. In particular, the catalyst cost is only 5.6% of the total cost, indicating the low cost of the synthesized catalyst. Finally, the sensitivity analysis reveals that an appropriate increase in catalyst loading amount can improve the biodiesel yield, but lead to an increase in the total cost of biodiesel, and therefore reasonable control of catalyst loading amount is necessary. This work will inspire the further development and application of biochar-based metal catalyst in biodiesel production.

A core–shell structure that can achieve effective adsorption of methyl orange (MO) can be prepared by using 26-facet Cu 2 O as a template for producing copper using a reducing agent. However, there are insufficient studies on this topic. Therefore, in this study, Cu 2 O@Cu composites were synthesized using a two-step liquid-phase reduction method. MO was used as a pollutant to test the adsorption properties of the materials. The adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption process followed pseudo-first-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm. The maximum capacity of the adsorbent was 498 mg/g, and the adsorption occurred via spontaneous and exothermic physical adsorption. By the comparison of adsorbent before and after adsorption, it was found that the content of Cu + decreased and that of CuO increased, indicating that the material was oxidized during the adsorption process. Further, FTIR spectroscopy and zeta potential showed that the adsorption mechanism was the electrostatic attraction between positively charged adsorbent and the sulfonic acid group of the MO. Therefore, the porous core-shell structure and the positively charged adsorbent facilitated the adsorption of anionic dyes. 1 TD can be used as an effective adsorbent for MO.

Cu-based catalysts had been widely used in CO 2 hydrogenation process for their excellent performance and high selectivity. Micron-sized Cu powder obtained by ball milling exhibited poor CO 2 activity for its large particle size and small specific surface area, limited its catalytic application. In this work, micron Cu powder was modified with CeO 2 species synthesized from different cerium precursor salts via a solution auto-combustion method to investigate CO 2 hydrogenation activity. This work revealed that CeO 2 species formed from cerium acetate precursor salt achieved excellent CO 2 performance (1.64 mol/g cat .h at 400 °C), which was 3.8 times and 6000 times higher than that from cerium nitrate salt or cerium chloride salt, respectively. Interestingly, a thick dense CeO 2 shell would be formed on micron Cu generated from cerium(III) chloride precursor salt, which inhibited CuO x reduction and had the opposite effect for RWGS reaction. In addition, the CuO x species in CeO 2 @Cu synthesized from cerium chloride salt resulted in the CH 4 selectivity. The enhancement performance of the CeO 2 @Cu prepared from cerium acetate salt and cerium nitrate salt could be attributed to the oxygen defects formed around the Cu-Ox-Ce interface area and metallic Cu in the RWGS reaction. Cerium precursor salts enhanced the structural integrity of CeO 2 @Cu and played a vital role in RWGS reaction. These results will support a new direction for exploring micron Cu powder in Cu-based catalysts for CO 2 utilization.

Hydrogen, with the merits of zero emissions and high energy density, is one of the promising green energy sources. Seeking for high efficiency and low-cost catalysts is one of the key issues for hydrogen evolution and its practical applications. Nano-structured metal co-catalysts are widely used to improve the photocatalytic performance via surface electronic structure/properties optimization of the catalyst. Herein, we report ultra-fine (~ 1 nm) Cu clusters decorated hydrangea-like TiO 2 systems for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. The pristine hydrangea-like TiO 2 support shows a promising performance of hydrogen evolution (1.8 mmol·h −1 ·g −1 ), which is ~ 10.7 times higher than that of the commercial P25 (168 μmol·h −1 ·g −1 ). After ultra-fine Cu clusters decoration, a maximal hydrogen evolution performance (3.7 mmol·h −1 ·g −1 ) is achieved in the optimized system 6Cu–TiO 2 (6 wt%). Experimental and theoretical studies demonstrate that the ultra-fine Cu clusters decoration could promote the charge separation and transfer process effectively. The Cu clusters also act as reaction sites for reduction of H 2 O to H 2 . These results are of great importance for the study of Cu-based co-catalyst systems and also shed light on the development of other non-noble metal co-catalysts in photocatalysis hydrogen evolution.
