Solid-state lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) are promising owing to enhanced safety and high energy density . However, the issues of Li dendrite growth and large electrolyte-electrode interfacial resistance still hinder their practical applications in LMBs. Here, a Li anode-electrolyte structure integration has been developed using in-situ chemical reactions between the polyvinylidene fluoride/Li 3x La 2/3−x TiO 3 /N-methyl pyrrolidone (PVDF/LLTO/NMP) solution and the Li metal interphase. After gradually coating the PVDF/LLTO/NMP solution onto Li metal, NMP as catalyst, inducing PVDF reacted with Li spontaneously to form lithium fluorine (LiF), and the accompanying Ti 4+ ions (in LLTO) are reduced to Ti 3+ ions to form a LLTO ionic/electronic conductor (Li x LLTO). After NMP evaporation, an ionic/electronic conductor protective layer of LiF/Li x LLTO is created between the PVDF/LLTO electrolytes and Li metal. When applying the integrated solid-state Li batteries (ISSLBs), the protective layer can reduce interfacial resistance and the formation of Li dendrites by regulating the even Li deposition redistributing the Li-ion transport. As a result, the as-assembled LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 /ISSLBs achieves an initial capacity of 181 mA h g −1 and retains 83% capacity after 200 cycles at 0.5 C. This design can be an effective strategy to tailor the properties of Li-metal anodes for achieving dendrite-free LMBs with high performance and high safety.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is promising for piezo-catalytic applications owing to its excellent biocompatibility, flexibility, and durability. However, it is limited by weak electroactivity originating from its intrinsically low β piezoelectric phase content (<20%) and insulating properties. Here, we achieve efficient piezo-catalysis by introducing a self-polarized PVDF-based composite containing carbon nanotube (CNT) as conductive fillers. Notably, our self-polarized CNT/PVDF (SCP) ensemble exhibits a high β phase content of ∼95%, which is up to 6-fold higher than the original PVDF powder, and superior electrical activity by exploiting the polarity induction effect of water molecules. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, the SCP realizes efficient degradation of organic-polluted water by at least 95% within 2 h of ultrasonication (240 W), even at high pollutant concentration (40 mgL −1 ). Systematic investigations unveil its excellent recyclability and adaptability to various tropical or subtropical natural waters. More importantly, the SCP also achieves efficient H 2 O 2 production of up to ∼13.5 mmol g CNT −1 h −1 , which is > 6-fold and > 19-fold better than standalone self-polarized PVDF (i.e., without CNT content) and emerging piezo-catalytic designs, respectively. This study offers a unique approach for designing PVDF-based piezo-catalyst to expedite mechanically-driven catalysis towards practical applications.

To address the problem of the serious capacity fading in lithium–sulfur batteries, a multi-functional PEO(polyethylene oxide)/LiFSI (lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide)/PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) (PLP) gel polymer electrolyte is exploited by coating PLP on a carbon nanotubes (CNTs) based sulfur cathode (PLP-S/CNTs) with a controlled thermal annealing process. The annealing process leads to the conformal infusion of PLP through the matrix of S/CNTs with retaining the amorphous phase of the PLP, which enhance the rate performance compared to the bare S/CNTs. The PLP coating drives the transformation of more elemental sulfur to Li 2 S 2 /Li 2 S without forming intermediary product by restraining soluble-polysulfides formation. Furthermore, the PLP coating successfully inhibits the dissolution of Li 2 S x ( x > 4) in PEO and prevents the loss of active material in the cathode, which is confirmed by density functional theory calculations. Comprehensively, the PLP coating applied to the surface of the S/CNTs cathode exhibit significantly suppressed shuttle effect and greatly improve long-term cycle stability of the lithium–sulfur battery. The synthesized PLP-coated S/CNTs composite cathode demonstrates a high specific capacity of 573.6 mAh g −1 at a current density of 0.5 C after 1 000 cycles, even achieving 318.1 mAh g −1 at an extremely high C-rate (6 C). which is unprecedented performance among the reported studies on coating technology.

Dopamine was used to modify polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in order to obtain functional polydopamine (PDA) surface-modified PTFE microporous film (PTFE@PDA). Ag was deposited on the surface of PTFE@PDA using electroless plating in order to obtain Ag-wrapped PTFE@PDA film (PTFE@Ag). A liquid-phase chemical reduction method was employed to prepare nickel nanochains. A Ni@PVDF cast film was obtained by mechanically blended nickel nanochains and polyimide (PVDF). The above two films were hot pressed to give a flexible, ultra-thin, and highly effective electromagnetic shielding composite film with a “3+2” layered structure. IR, XRD, and TEM results showed the PTFE@PDA film surface was coated by a tight plating layer of Ag particles with a particle size of 100~200 nm. PTFE@Ag+Ni@PVDF composite film exhibited excellent electromagnetic shielding effectiveness, with the conductivity of 7507.5 S/cm and the shielding effectiveness of 69.03 dB in the X-band range. After a 2000-cycle bending, this value still remained at 51.90 dB. Furthermore, the composite film presented excellent tensile strength of 62.1 MPa. It has great potential for applications in flexible and wearable intelligent devices. Keywords:electromagnetic shielding;Ag;PTFE;composite film

The construction of high-performance MOF-based hollow fiber composite membrane (HFCM) modules is a significant, yet challenging task for the biofuel production industry. In this study, a novel approach was taken to fabricate PDMS@ZIF-8/PVDF HFCMs in modules through a facile ZIF-8 self-crystallization synthesis followed by pressure-assisted PDMS infusion for pervaporation ethanol-water separation. The as-prepared HFCMs exhibited an ultrathin separation layer (thickness, 370 ± 35 nm), which was achieved through precise regulation of the ZIF-8 membrane and defect repair by PDMS infusion. Moreover, the strategy utilized in this study resolved the defect issues arising from MOF agglomeration in conventional composite membranes. Impressively, at the optimal packing density, the prepared membrane demonstrated a remarkable ethanol flux (1.11 kg m −2 h −1 ) with an PSI value (26.59 kg m −2 h −1 ) and showed promising long-term stability for the pervaporation of 5 wt% ethanol aqueous solution at 40°C.

Here, a polyvinylidene difluoride composite membrane (PVDF@TA–Fe membrane) was prepared via the repeated spraying of tannic acid (TA) and Fe 3+ to form a TA–Fe complex on the hydrophobic PVDF membrane, which endows the membrane surface superhydrophilicity. The effects of the number of sprays on the surface wettability and emulsion separation capacity of membrane were systematically investigated. It was found that the TA-Fe(III)-complex network formed on the membrane significantly increased the hydrophilicity of the membrane, and the PVDF@TA–Fe membrane was found to exhibit superhydrophilicity/underwater superoleophobicity. The PVDF@TA–Fe membrane was found to exhibit good separation efficiencies (above 99%) and high fluxes (1189.1–2310.0 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 ) when used to separate oil and water in various oil/water emulsions. The repeated separation experiments show that the membrane has a good antifouling performance and maintains a good oil/water separation performance after more than 10 cycles. The present work is of great importance to the large-scale preparation of superhydrophilic membranes and treatment of oily wastewater.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based dielectric energy storage materials have the advantages of environmental friendliness, high power density, high operating voltage, flexibility, and being light weight, and have enormous research value in the energy, aerospace, environmental protection, and medical fields. To investigate the magnetic field and the effect of high-entropy spinel ferrite (Mn0.2Zr0.2Cu0.2Ca0.2Ni0.2)Fe2O4nanofibers (NFs) on the structural, dielectric, and energy storage properties of PVDF-based polymers, (Mn0.2Zr0.2Cu0.2Ca0.2Ni0.2)Fe2O4NFs were prepared via the use of electrostatic spinning methods, and (Mn0.2Zr0.2Cu0.2Ca0.2Ni0.2)Fe2O4/PVDF composite films were prepared via the use of the coating method. The effects of a 0.8 T parallel magnetic field, induced for 3 min, and the content of high-entropy spinel ferrite on the relevant electrical properties of the composite films are discussed. The experimental results show that, structurally, the magnetic field treatment causes the originally agglomerated nanofibers in the PVDF polymer matrix to form a linear fiber chain with different fiber chains parallel to each other along the magnetic field direction. Electrically, the introduction of the magnetic field enhanced the interfacial polarization, and the (Mn0.2Zr0.2Cu0.2Ca0.2Ni0.2)Fe2O4/PVDF composite film with a doping concentration of 10 vol% had a maximum dielectric constant of 13.9, as well as a low energy loss of 0.068. The high-entropy spinel ferrite (Mn0.2Zr0.2Cu0.2Ca0.2Ni0.2)Fe2O4NFs and the magnetic field influenced the phase composition of the PVDF-based polymer. The α-phase and γ-phase of the cohybrid-phase B1 vol% composite films had a maximum discharge energy density of 4.85 J/cm3and a charge/discharge efficiency of 43%.Keywords:high-entropy spinel ferrite;polymer;dielectric;ferroelectric;energy density

Flexible PVDF-based piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) are promising mechanical energy harvesters for powering wearable devices and portable electronics. In this work, a new hybrid nanocomposite was prepared by coating polyaniline on the surface of halloysite nanotube (HNT@PANI) and PENGs were fabricated by using electrospun nanocomposite fiber mats comprising HNT@PANI and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF). The rough surface of PANI outer layer and its electronegative properties favors a large interface and a strong interfacial interaction with PVDF matrix, which efficiently improves the β-phase crystal content and the crystallinity of PVDF simultaneously, resulting in an enhanced output performance in the fibrous nanocomposite PENGs. When the nanocomposite fiber mats are composed of 1 wt% HNT@PANI nanoparticles, the open-circuit voltage of the PENG is up to 30 V, which is six times higher than that of pure PVDF, and it can also light up 17 red LEDs. Furthermore, the open-circuit voltage was found unchanged after being subjected to continuous tapping for 5 weeks in the durability test. In addition, the PENG can charge a capacitor to 4.4 V within 60 s. This flexible self-powered PENG with good durability and high outputs has the potential to be used as a self-charging power source and applied in the field of wearable flexible electronic devices.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with hollow nanochannels have attracted much attention in preparing high-performance water treatment membranes. In this paper, the grafting polymer chains, including alkynyl terminated poly(methyl methacrylate) methacrylate (PMMA) single chain and PMMA-b-poly (ethylene glycol) methacrylate [P(PEGMA)] diblock molecular chains, were synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. A UV-induced click reaction was used to graft different linear polymers onto the surface of magnetic thiol-functionalized carbon nanotubes (mCNTs-SH). The poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composite ultrafiltration membrane within the oriented nanochannels was prepared using phase inversion and magnetic field orientation. TEM and XRD results confirmed that the magnetic carbon nanotubes grafted with a diblock molecular chain had good nano-dispersion and orientation array effects in PVDF composite ultrafiltration membrane. The water contact angle of the array mCNT-g-diblock molecular chain-based composite membrane was 48.5°, significantly enhancing the PEGMA chain segments. The composite membrane with CTNs’ nanochannels attained a higher water flux. As the diblock molecular chain grafted mCNTs oriented in the membrane, the water flux reached 17.6 LMH (five times greater than the pure PVDF membrane), while the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) for PEG1400 rejection could reach higher than 80%.Keywords:polyvinylidene fluoride ultrafiltration membrane;grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs);nanochannel;block polymers;RAFT polymerization

In this study, selective distribution of amino-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-NH 2 ) in poly (vinylidene fluoride)/polyamide 6 (PA6/PVDF) blends is achieved via the mixing process and subsequent migration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selective extraction confirmed that MWCNTs-NH 2 could migrate from the PVDF phase to the two-phase interface. The composites could significantly improve thermal/electrical conduction capacity of the composites with low dose. The thermal infrared characterization also indicated that the composites have better heat absorption capability and dissipation performance due to the good thermal conductivity . Rheological measurements exhibited the MWCNTs-NH 2 could form network structure with a low content at the interface of the composites. Moreover, the addition of MWCNTs-NH 2 led to an improvement in the mechanical properties compared with the pure PA6/PVDF blends. These results manifest that the thermal/electrical conductivity and mechanical performance of the composites with low filler loading can be significantly improved by selective distribution of MWCNTs-NH 2 through controlling the migration process.

Lithium-ion batteries have been receiving more and more attention because of the energy crisis. As an important subassembly of lithium-ion batteries, the separator greatly affects the safety of the batteries. Herein, we report for the first time, a novel method fabricated separator by mixing zirconia fibers with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) via papermaking process. The separators possess abundant pores and uniform structure after the phase inversion process. The separator properties were systematically studied at different proportion of PVDF. We find that when the content of PVDF is 40%, the separator has high porosity (77.69%), high electrolyte uptake (523.3%), and excellent thermal stability (thermal shrinkage ratio is 0% at 500 °C). In addition, the rate capability, cycle performance, and ionic conductivity are also investigated. We anticipate that the papermaking method of zirconia fibers will provide a strategy to fabricate a promising separator for enhanced electrochemical performance and high safety of lithium-ion batteries.

In this study, we fabricated a novel anti-fouling poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membrane using a novel amphiphilic copolymer of PVDF grafted with tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate (PVDF-g-THFMA). This copolymer was synthesized via photoinduced Cu(II)-mediated reversible deactivation radical polymerization . The amphiphilic copolymer was characterized by 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy . The morphology of the copolymer was examined using scanning electron microscopy. The permeability and hydrophilicity of the membranes were evaluated on the basis of their pure water flux and dynamic contact angles, respectively. The anti-fouling property of the membranes was evaluated by carrying out filtration using a bovine serum albumin (BSA) solution. The PVDF-g-THFMA copolymer membranes showed a pure flux of up to 293.9 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 and a molecular weight cut off of 39.5 kDa. After the filtration of the BSA solution, the PVDF-g-THFMA copolymer membrane was washed with deionized water and the recovery ratio of the pure water flux reached a value of 89.1%. The modified membrane showed good filtration performance and anti-fouling property.
