Developing intelligent electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials with real-time response-ability is of great significance in complex application environments. Herein, highly compressible Fe@CNFs@Co/C elastic aerogels were assembled through the electrospinning method, achieving EMW absorption through pressure changes. By varying the pressure, the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of Fe@CNFs@Co/C elastic aerogels shows continuous changes from low frequency to high frequency. The EAB of Fe@CNFs@Co/C elastic aerogels is 14.4 GHz (3.36–17.76 GHz), which covers 90% of the range of S/C/X/Ku bands. The theoretical simulation indicates that the external pressure prompts a reduction in the spacing between the fiber layers in the aerogels and facilitates the formation of a 3D conductive network with enhanced attenuation ability of EMW. The uniform distribution of metal particles and appropriate layer spacing can effectively optimize the impedance matching to achieve the best EMW absorption performance. This work state clearly that the hierarchically assembled elastic aerogels composed of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derivatives and carbon fibers are ideal dynamic EMW absorption materials for intelligent EMW response.

The widespread application of nuclear energy has increased the risk of contamination by radionuclide 137 Cs. Prussian blue analogues are considered to be excellent materials for the removal of 137 Cs from wastewater due to their unique structure. In this work, Cs + adsorbent for PBAs with Fe-Co framework, potassium iron hexacyanocobaltate (PBA Fe ), was synthesized by room temperature precipitation method. Systematic structural characterization and performance results of PBA Fe showed that it has a specific surface area of 452.8 m 2 /g and an average pore size of 8.6 nm, providing more active sites for Cs + . The adsorption of Cs + on PBA Fe exhibited fast reaction kinetics (within 10 min) and high adsorption capacity (82.90 mg/g), and the removal rate of Cs + reached 98.57 %. The efficient removal of Cs + by PBA Fe in various real water environments showed its excellent selectivity and potential for practical application. In addition, adsorption mechanism studies showed that the adsorption of Cs + was achieved by ion exchange with K + in the PBA Fe lattice. PBA Fe has the advantages of simple synthesis and good selectivity, and has potential application in the harmless treatment of Cs + in radioactive wastewater.

Replacing the ceramic support of a conventional solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) with a metal support is an active research trend for improving the robustness of SOFC. We report metal-supported SOFC (M-SOFC) prepared based on Ni–Fe alloy supports with different Ni to Fe atomic ratios. The results show a Ni to Fe atomic ratio of 7:3 ratio has a more homogeneous and balanced microstructure and mechanical strength. Besides metal support selection, the type of cathode also plays a key role on improving the performance of a M-SOFC. In this study, we choose SSC and SDC as cathode materials and prepare composite cathodes containing different weight ratios of SSC to SDC, i.e., 3:7, 5:5, and 7:3 with a cathode sintering temperature of 950 and 1050 °C are compared as well. The combination of a Ni to Fe atomic ratio of 7:3, a SSC to SDC weight ratio of 5:5, and a cathode sintering temperature of 1050 °C yields the highest performance. The SSC-SDC55 cathode on symmetrical cell test shows a very low polarization resistance of 0.035 Ω cm 2 at 800 °C. A tested single-cell consisting layers of Ni–Fe|NiO-YSZ|YSZ|GDC|SSC- SDC achieved a maximum power density of 1.4 W cm −2 at 800 °C, reaching one of the highest performances for Ni–Fe supported M-SOFC, proving the advantages of using Ni–Fe alloy as support for M-SOFC. The stability of our Ni–Fe alloy supported M-SOFC still needs improvement.

Background In sepsis, the lungs are one of the most severely affected organs, usually resulting in acute lung injury (ALI). Capsaicin (CAP) is a natural compound found in chili peppers that has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. Here, we report that nanoparticles containing capsaicin and iron (Fe-CAP NPs) exhibited anti-inflammatory effects in the treatment of ALI. Methods The morphological characteristics of nanozymes were detected. RAW 264.7 cells were divided into four groups: control, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), CAP+LPS and Fe-CAP+LPS groups. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was assessed by immunofluorescence, Western blot, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) expression was determined by Western blot. C57 mice were divided into control, LPS, CAP+LPS and Fe-CAP+LPS groups. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and iNOS expression in the lung was detected by Western Blot. IL-6 and TNF-α expression in serum was detected by ELISA. Extravasated Evans blue, histopathological evaluation and wet-to-dry (W/D) weight ratio were used to assess pulmonary capillary permeability. The blood and major organs (heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney) of mice were tested for the toxicity of Fe-CAP NPs. Results In the LPS group, TNF-α, iNOS, p-NF-κB and p-IKBα expression increased. However, their expression was significantly decreased in the Fe-CAP+LPS group. TGF-β expression showed the opposite trend. In vivo, IL-6 and iNOS expression was notably increased in the lungs of LPS group of mice but decreased with Fe-CAP pretreatment. Fe-CAP significantly ameliorated lung EB leakage, improved the histopathology of lung tissue and reduced the W/D weight ratio. The nanoparticles showed non-cytotoxicity, when studying these biological activities. Conclusion Fe-CAP NPs could alleviated inflammation by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory factors in macrophages, increasing the expression of anti-inflammatory factors, and alleviating lung tissue damage.

With the development of communication and automatization technology, the demand for electromagnetic absorbing materials is continuously rising. The key problem lies in expanding and regulating the electromagnetic absorption band . Among these materials, carbonized polymers stand out in terms of electromagnetic absorption due to their lightweight, low cost and designability. The carbonized polymers can bridge varies of substances to construct lightweight nitrogen-doped carbon composites, achieving broadband and tunable-band designs. In this study, Fe-C-N anchored TiO 2 hierarchical structure is simply realized by carbonizing polypyrrole/MXene precursors. FeCl 3 are designed to be as the initiator for the polymerization of pyrrole and in situ as a doping Fe source. Moreover, by controlling the carbonization temperature, the electromagnetic absorption band can be obviously regulated from C to Ku band. The multi-layered TiO 2 structure brings enhanced structural losses and better electromagnetic energy dissipation pathways, while the crystalline/amorphous interfaces and hybridizations between Fe-C-N and TiO 2 boost the interfacial polarizations and dipole polarizations. Besides, the introduction of Fe compounds leads to ferromagnetism and magnetic losses, which improves the impedance matching. This work provides referencing ways for the design of broadband electromagnetic absorbing materials.

Prussian blue (PB) and its analogs (PBAs) have become a research hotspot in the fields of electrochemical energy storage and electrochromism due to their good reversible redox activity, and reversible color change response in different redox states. Herein, a series of trimetallic PBAs (Co/NiHCF with Co to Ni molar ratios of 1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 0:1) are synthesized by a facile co-precipitation method. In particular, the impact of Co to Ni molar ratio on the lithium storage and electrochromic properties of Co/NiHCF materials are systemically investigated. All five samples possess good crystallinity but the particle size decreases with the reduction of Co/Ni molar ratio. The color change, redox reaction potential, and lithium storage activity of the samples can be readily controlled by adjusting the molar ratio of Co to Ni. The lithium storage activity of the samples strengthens with the increase of Ni content in Co/NiHCF, accompanied by a decrease in redox potentials. With the increase of Ni content, the color of the Co/NiHCF film in the oxidation state changes from purple-red to orange, and finally to yellow; in the reduction state, the color of the film changes from green to light green and then to colorless. All the samples exhibit superior rate capability, excellent cycling stability, and short switching time (in the range of 1.6 to 4.3 s). The present work demonstrates a facile strategy for readily tunning the lithium storage activity, redox reaction potentials, and realizing rich color changes of PBA-based bifunctional materials.

Sustainable lithium-based energy storage and conversion systems, such as lithium-ion batteries, rely on efficient lithium extraction methods from brine sources. Traditional H 2 TiO 3 (HTO) lithium-ion sieves (LIS), though effective, face challenges in optimizing lithium adsorption efficiency and stability. Herein, we introduce a Fe-doping strategy in HTO (Fe-HTO) that artificially substitutes Ti sites, generating lattice defects and oxygen vacancies (OVs). This modification enhances lithium-ion diffusion kinetics and increases active adsorption sites, significantly improving selective lithium extraction efficiency. With Fe-HTO, the equilibrium adsorption time for lithium-ion in shale gas wastewater (SGW), with pH adjustment to 12, is reduced by 20 h compared to undoped HTO. Fe-HTO reaches an adsorption capacity of 37.20 mg/g within 4 h and retains 99.2 % of this capacity after 10 adsorption/desorption cycles at room temperature, demonstrating high structural stability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations clarify that Fe doping lowers the diffusion energy barrier for lithium-ion, accelerating both lithium-ion diffusion and adsorption. Given this, the work illustrates the potential of heteroatom doping to boost adsorption kinetics, offering promising applications for rapid lithium extraction and similar resource recovery challenges.

Conversion-type anode materials, particularly transition metal phosphides (TMPs), are considered to be highly promising candidates for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to their substantial theoretical capacity, which can reach up to 1000 mAh g–1, as well as their cost-effectiveness. But their practical application is constrained by significant changes, including substantial volume changes during charge/discharge cycles and poor reaction kinetics. Addressing these challenges requires precise nanoscale engineering to optimize material structure and functionality. Herein, we present the fabrication of a carbon-coated, Fe-doped nickel phosphide (Fe–Ni2P@C) nanosheet array directly grown on a three-dimensional nickel foam (NF) substrate via a simple hydrothermal and phosphating process. The hierarchical nanosheet array architecture offers several nanoscale advantages: the nanosheets provide abundant active sites for electrochemical reactions and significantly reduce Na+ diffusion distances, while the carbon coating effectively suppresses the volume expansion during cycling. Additionally, Fe doping at the nanoscale introduces phosphorus vacancies and increases the material’s intrinsic conductivity and electrochemical reaction kinetics. This synergistic nanoscale design enables the Fe–Ni2P@C nanosheet arrays to function as self-supported anode materials without the need for binders, additives, or additional processing steps. As a result, the material achieves exceptional sodium storage performance, exhibiting a rate capability of 317.16 mAh g–1 at a current density of 2 A g–1 and a reversible capacity of 418.89 mAh g–1 following 500 cycles at a current density of 0.5 A g–1. This study highlights the critical role of nanoscale engineering in overcoming the limitations of TMP-based anodes and provides a facile and scalable approach for developing high-performance, self-supported anode materials for SIBs of the future.

Solar-driven interfacial photothermal evaporation (SIPE) has been considered as a green and sustainable technology for obtaining fresh water, and the exploring efficient photothermal materials is crucial. Nanocomposite derived from metal-organic framework exhibits high light absorption properties and excellent chemical stability, making it an ideal candidate in the SIPE. Herein, Fe 3 O 4 /C nanocomposite was obtained using MIL-101 (Fe) as a precursor, and Fe 3 O 4 /C-based porous hydrogel (Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH) was subsequently prepared through chemical crosslinking foaming polymerization. The obtained Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH exhibited an evaporation rate of 3.33 kg m −2 h −1 under one sun intensity. Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH demonstrated outstanding desalination and salting out resistance when treating real seawater. Moreover, it could remove over 99 % of dyes from wastewater. The photothermal mechanisms are molecular thermal vibration of C component and semiconductor relaxation of Fe 3 O 4 . Meanwhile, the hydrophilic and porous skeleton structure of the hydrogel ensure Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH to transport water rapidly and exhibit good light absorption properties. This research broadens the candidate of photothermal materials for applications in SIPE, and also provides new avenues for desalination and wastewater purification.

Two-dimensional material (2D material) MXene has great application potential in gas sensors because of its excellent controllable performance and vast specific surface area. In this study, we used a straightforward in-situ electrostatic self-assembly technique to create Fe(OH)3/Ti3C2Tx nanocomposites, which were then used to fabricate gas sensors for ammonia detection at room temperature (25 °C). Several characterization methods were performed aimed at determining the surface appearance and construction of the nanocomposites, and the sensing characteristics and mechanism were also systematically examined. The findings demonstrate the effective incorporation of amorphous Fe(OH)3 nanoparticles on the surface of Ti3C2Tx. Additionally the nanocomposites of Fe(OH)3/Ti3C2Tx have considerably higher specific surface area than pure Ti3C2Tx, hence offering more active NH3 adsorption sites. The response of the sensor to 100 ppm NH3 was 48.6% at room temperature, which was 9.3 times more higher than that of pure Ti3C2Tx. The sensors also have the advantages of long-term stability (33 d), low NH3 detection limit (500 ppb), and rapid recovery time (85 s) and response times (78 s). It is anticipated that this work will be helpful for developing the new generation of wearable ammonia sensors at room temperature.

The abundant Fe 3+ Lewis acidic sites and well-developed pore structure endow the Fe-MOFs with great potential for H 2 S catalytic oxidation at room temperature, but their performance is inferior owing to the insufficient redox ability of the Fe 3+ species inherent in frameworks. Herein, an effective protocol was proposed for the first time to remarkably improve the catalytic oxidation performance of MIL-100(Fe) under ambient conditions through the introduction of Fe 2+ coordinatively unsaturated site (CUS) species into the framework. As expected, the sample after modification had a superior H 2 S breakthrough capacity of 267.3 mg S/g, an 18.4-fold increase compared with that without Fe 2+ CUS (14.5 mg S/g). The introduced Fe 2+ species triggered the Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ redox cycle for H 2 S catalytic oxidation by enhancing the oxidative ability of the Fe 3+ CUS intrinsic to the framework. Moreover, the Fe 2+ CUS was also found act as an active site for O 2 activation into O 2 ∙– , which not only provides an additional pathway for H 2 S catalytic oxidation but also accelerates the redox cycling of Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ during the catalytic oxidation process. On the basis of the experimental findings, a plausible catalytic mechanism involving mixed-valence iron sites in MIL-100(Fe) was proposed.

Microwave catalytic pyrolysis of lignin is one of emerging technologies for efficiently converting lignin into fuels and chemicals. Molecular sieves (HZSM-5) are widely used as carriers to load metallic components for biomass pyrolysis but often encounter challenges such as high diffusion resistance and insufficient acidity of acidic sites. Traditionally, HZSM-5 is directly modified to enhance the activity of the acidic sites, but this modification is ineffective in improving the metallic components’ activity. Instead, we made nitrogen doping on Fe and then supported on HZSM-5 to construct Fe-N 25 /HZSM-5 catalysts for microwave catalytic pyrolysis of lignin. The N-doped Fe has the effect of “killing two birds with one stone” on enhancing the catalytic activity. The characterization results indicated that N replaced C of the graphitic carbon network to form carbon nitride structure, and further combined with Fe to generate Fe-N bonds, improving the electronegativity of the metallic component. Besides, the loading of N-doped Fe increased the acidity of the catalyst. The utilization of 1.00Fe-N 25 /HZSM-5 obtained the greatest bio-gas yield (35.2 wt%), a hydrogen yield of 27.8 mL/min, bio-oil yield (36.4 wt%) and phenol selectivity of 46.2 %. The likely pathway of microwave catalytic pyrolysis on Fe-N 25 /HZSM-5 was proposed through DFT calculation, using guaiacol as a model compound. The results suggested that N-doped Fe on HZSM-5 8 T tended to break the side-chain methoxy during pyrolysis of guaiacol, with energy barrier of 0.14 eV. This paper provides a promising strategy for modification of microwave pyrolysis catalysts.
