Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have exhibited tremendous potential for commercial applications in the fields of displays, lighting, and information technology. For achieving pure red electroluminescence, quasi-two-dimensional (Q-2D) perovskite based on Br/I mixed halides has been commonly used. However, during the in-situ crystallization process of perovskite films via low-temperature solution methods, the complexity of coordination among various ions leads to the presence of uncoordinated ions, resulting in numerous defects in the perovskite films. These defects significantly impact the performance and stability of PeLEDs. In this work, hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) was incorporated into the hole transport layer (HTL) to passivate the defects in perovskite films. Experimental results showed that the hydroxyl groups in HEC interacted with Pb 2+ /K + /PEA + ions in the perovskite, contributing to the passivation of defects. Simultaneously, the addition of HEC inhibited the low-dimensional phases (n=1, 2) and enhanced the high-dimensional phase (n=3) in the Q-2D perovskite films. The optimized distribution of n phases was favorable for the radiative recombination. After the introduction of HEC, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) of pure red PeLEDs at 636 nm showed a significant improvement compared to the control device, from 5.31% to 6.82%. This strategy provides an excellent alterative to improve the electroluminescent efficiency of red PeLEDs.

In recent years, metal halides have attracted much attention because of their fascinating optical properties. However, realizing an emission with efficient white light afterglow is still a great challenge. Here, high-purity Zn 2+ -doped CsCdCl 3 crystals have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Part of the Zn 2+ ions replace part of the Cd 2+ ions in the coplanar octahedron, so atomically confined excitons are formed around the coplanar octahedron. This exciton produces blue emission with a center wavelength of 422 nm at room temperature, but also produces weak STE at 595 nm. This is due to the dominance of confined exciton ( Cd CE) luminescence and suppression of intrinsic STE with PLQY reaching 44.53 %. Doping of Zn 2+ emits a white afterglow at room temperature. Raman and pyroelectric spectroscopic analyses show that the A 1g 246 cm −1 phonon mode plays an important role in the electron-phonon coupling process and dominates the afterglow luminescence process. In addition, white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) were fabricated with Zn 2+ doped CsCdCl 3 to show their potential in lighting applications.

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed key limitations in conventional qPCR diagnostics, including lengthy multi-step nucleic acid extraction and dependence on trained personnel. In this study, photoactive TiO 2 @Ga particles are developed capable of rapid viral lysis, nucleic acid extraction, and directional enrichment. Liquid metal gallium (Ga) enhances viral lysis under ultrasound by amplifying acoustic effects and generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) in aqueous environments. TiO 2 provides photocatalytic propulsion under UV irradiation and exhibits high affinity for nucleic acids, enabling efficient capture. Upon UV exposure, protons are generated by water oxidation at TiO 2 and reduced at Ga. The resulting proton flux drives the migration of negatively charged particles toward the TiO 2 side. The particles reached velocities of up to 6 µm s −1 under 365 nm UV light at an intensity of 200 mW cm −2 . Under the same conditions, TiO 2 @Ga particles exhibited lower qPCR cycle threshold (Ct) values compared with controls, indicating enhanced viral lysis and nucleic acid capture of SARS-CoV-2 plasmids and pseudoviruses. Furthermore, qPCR confirmed efficient extraction and transport of viral nucleic acids within a single-channel microfluidic chip. This integrated, rapid, and user-friendly approach holds strong potential for point-of-care molecular diagnostics.

The attenuation coefficient of ultraviolet UV light is a critical factor influencing the mechanical properties of photocurable ceramics. Aiming to fabricate high-precision and high-performance ZrO2 ceramics, this study systematically investigates the impact of the UV attenuation coefficient on the polymerization kinetics of ZrO2 ceramic slurries. Through linear fitting, the absorption and scattering coefficients of the ZrO2 slurry were determined as 66 cm−1. By integrating the Beer-Lambert law, we further validated how the UV attenuation coefficient affects the variation in C=C double bond conversion within the cured slurry layers. Additionally, based on Mie scattering theory, although the incident energy was 52 mW cm−2 and slice thickness was 50 μm, the curing depth Cd and exposure energy In{E}_{o} is optimal. The ZrO2 ceramic was formed , in which the sintered sample density was 6.02 g cm−3 (99%).

In recent years, low-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides have been widely studied in optoelectronics owing to their broadband emission and high quantum yields. However, there has been limited progress in blue-emitting material development. To address this challenge, we prepared two new zero-dimensional (0D) cadmium-based hybrid halides, [MeOP]CdBr4 (MeOP = 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine) and [FPhP]CdBr4 (FPhP = 1-(2-fluorophenyl)piperazine) with blue broadband emissions, originating from the radiative recombination of self-trapped excitons (STEs). Furthermore, a stable white light-emitting diode (LED) was fabricated using [MeOP]CdBr4 as blue phosphor, which achieved a high color rendering index (CRI) of 95.4. This study not only introduces two new blue light-emitting hybrid materials but also highlights their potential in solid-state lighting applications.

Herein, we reported the fabrication of a core-shell-structured iron oxyhydroxide ( β -FeOOH) nanocomposite, which possessed good near-infrared (NIR) light-triggered photothermal conversion capacity for efficient antibacterial application. The nanocomposite was composed of a shuttle-shaped β -FeOOH nanocrystal core protected by the surrounding carboxyl maltodextrin (CMD) shell modified with green-emissive naphthalic anhydride (NA) dyes, thus named as FeOOH@CMD-NA. The inner β -FeOOH core possessed an average length of 19.0 ± 2.5 nm and a diameter of 6.4 ± 1.6 nm, while the mean size of FeOOH@CMD-NA was 35 ± 8.5 nm. Under an 808 nm laser irradiation, the nanocomposite displayed a good photothermal conversion performance with an efficiency of 40.9 %. The fluorescence experiment proved the effective binding behavior of nanocomposites with Escherichia coli ( E. coli ). Subsequently, the exposure to 808 nm light can efficiently inhibit the growth rate of E. coli via the photothermal effect generated by β -FeOOH nanocrystals. Therefore, we provided a low-cost and efficient photothermal agent for fluorescence imaging-guided elimination of microbial infections.

Bismuth heterojunction nanocomposites of BiTaO 4 nanoplates and BiVO 4 nanostructures were successfully prepared to enhance the photocatalytic performance of two cationic dyes: methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB). The heterostructured nanocomposite of BiTaO 4 /BiVO 4 demonstrates a specific surface area of 15.32 m 2 /g, achieving a two-fold increase over the 6.4 m 2 /g surface area of pure BiTaO 4 nanoplates. Mott-Schottky and UV–Vis measurements reveal the narrowing of the optical band gap of the newly fabricated heterostructure nanocomposites to 2.5 eV, enabling efficient charge generation and separation capabilities. The heterostructure nanocomposite of BiTaO 4 /BiVO 4 exhibits an enhanced degradation time constant of 0.098 min −1 for MB, which is 97 % faster than that of pure BiTaO 4 nanoplates at 0.002 min −1 . For RhB dye, a 57 % enhancement in the photodegradation time constants was recorded for BiTaO 4 /BiVO 4 with 0.045 min −1 compared to 0.019 min −1 for the pure BiTaO 4 nanoplates. The improved photocatalytic performance is attributed to efficient visible light absorption and effective charge generation and separation at the heterojunction active sites formed on the surface of BiTaO 4 nanoplates, as revealed by temporal response measurements. The transient photoresponse of BiTaO 4 /BiVO 4 nanocomposite shows faster time constants, with rise and decay times of τ R = 0.42 s and τ D 1 = 0.41 s, τ D 2 = 49.5 s, respectively. In comparison, the pure BiTaO 4 nanoplates exhibit rise times of τ R 1 = 0.46 s and τ R 2 = 6.36 s, while their decay times are τ D 1 = 0.72 s and τ D 2 = 15.73 s, where τ R and τ D are the rise and decay time constants, respectively. The heterostructure nanocomposites exhibit a higher photocurrent density of 0.65 µA/cm 2 , compared to 0.35 µA/cm 2 for pure BiTaO 4 . This study provides valuable insights into photocatalysis reaction enabled by a novel heterojunction formation between BiTaO 4 and BiVO 4 .

This study presented the successful synthesis of a visible light responsive Z-scheme BiTmDySbO7/BiEuO3heterojunction photocatalyst (BBHP) via the hydrothermal method, exhibiting outstanding removal efficiency for degrading the metronidazole (MNZ) in wastewater. The BBHP exhibited exceptional photocatalytic activity during the degradation process of the MNZ which was a widely detected pharmaceutical pollutant in aquatic environments. The key to the high photocatalytic activity of the BBHP was the formation of a Z-scheme photogenerated carrier transport channel which existed between BiTmDySbO7and BiEuO3within the heterojunction structure. This innovative structural design was experimentally confirmed for enhancing the separation efficiency of the photogenerated charge carriers significantly, thereby, the efficient photocatalytic activity of the BBHP was promoted. After visible light irradiation for 130 min, the BBHP achieved a removal efficiency of 99.56% for degrading MNZ and a mineralization rate of 98.11% for removing the total organic carbon (TOC) concentration. In contrast to a single photocatalyst, the removal rate of the MNZ by using the BBHP was 1.14 times that by using the BiEuO3, 1.26 times that by using the BiTmDySbO7, and 2.65 times that by using the nitrogen-doped TiO2(N-T) under visible light irradiation. The mineralization rate for removing the TOC concentration during the degradation process of the MNZ by using the BBHP was 1.17 times that by using the BiEuO3, 1.29 times that by using the BiTmDySbO7, and 2.86 times that by using the N-T under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic degradation process of the MNZ by using the BBHP followed first-order kinetics model, concurrently, a dynamics rate constant of 0.0345 min−1was obtained. Furthermore, the BBHP demonstrated excellent stability and durability in accordance with multiple cyclic degradation experiments. According to the capturing radicals experiments and the electron paramagnetic resonance test experiments, it was determined that the hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and the superoxide anions (•O2−) played key role during the photocatalytic degradation process of the MNZ by using the BBHP under visible light irradiation. Finally, the intermediate products that were produced during the degradation process of the MNZ were analyzed by using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer, as a result, a potential degradation pathway for the MNZ was proposed. Overall, this study could provide valuable references for future research on composite photocatalysts and effectively maintain the safety and sustainable utilization of water resource.

PZT-8 ceramics exhibit outstanding performance in sensor applications owing to their superior piezoelectric properties. Nevertheless, conventional dense PZT-8 ceramics are subject to certain limitations, including high acoustic impedance and relatively low energy conversion efficiency, which restrict their broader application potential. Porous architectures offer a viable solution by enabling controlled porosity, thereby improving acoustic matching and enhancing energy harvesting efficiency. Although 3D printing presents a cost-effective method for fabricating complex ceramic geometries, ultraviolet (UV) light-based photopolymerization techniques have encountered challenges in processing PZT-8 ceramics due to their strong UV absorption characteristics. To address this limitation, this study introduces a novel strategy by incorporating non-absorbent polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) into the formulation of high-performance porous PZT-8 piezoelectric ceramics tailored for digital light processing (DLP)-based 3D printing. Systematic investigations demonstrate that increasing PMMA content (5 wt% to 25 wt%) positively influences curing depth while simultaneously affecting microstructure and electrical properties. The experimental results show d 33 values ranging from 176 to 272 pC/N, k t values from 35.84% to 46.55%, Z values from 18.13 to 22.22 MRayls, FOM values from 8.92 to 10.55 × 10 -12 m 2 /N, and HFOM values from 3.47 to 4.40 × 10 -12 m 2 /N.

LED-based near-infrared (NIR) light sources are of considerable interest for advanced NIR spectroscopy technologies. However, LED "efficiency droop" presents a major challenge to achieving high-brightness NIR light. In this study, LaMgGa 11 O 19 :Cr 3+ (LMG:Cr 3+ ) ceramic was developed as a NIR color converter to achieve high-brightness laser-driven NIR light. The effects of fabrication temperature and Cr 3+ doping concentration on the luminescent properties of LMG:Cr 3+ ceramics were thoroughly investigated. Under blue light excitation, LMG:Cr 3+ ceramic exhibits a broadband NIR emission peak at 730 nm, with a high external quantum efficiency of 55.4 %. Due to its excellent heat dissipation performance and high-temperature stability, LMG:Cr 3+ ceramic can generate high-brightness NIR light, achieving an output power of 1.2 W when excited by a blue laser with power density of 7.50 W mm −2 . Finally, a laser-driven NIR light source has been successfully packaged, demonstrating the capability to meet various intelligent spectroscopy applications in biomedical imaging and non-destructive detection.

Luminescent organic molecules play a pivotal role in the advancement of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials. Herein, a class of acenaphthylene-cored D–π–A-type molecules were designed and synthesized (isolated yields >85% for each step), wherein the acenaphthylene served as a conjugated bridge integrating a benzoxazole acceptor moiety and a triarylamine donor unit. Computational results showed a spatially segregated distribution of the frontier molecular orbitals, which achieved a small singlet–triplet energy gap (ΔEST = 0.1 eV). The corresponding OLED device emitted green light at 543 nm. Furthermore, this work represents the first combined application of acenaphthylene and benzoxazole in luminescent organic materials.

To mitigate solar heating in colored objects, fluorescent coloration has been proposed as an alternative to traditional absorptive pigments. However, the Stokes-shifted photons generated by fluorophores predominantly remain trapped by total internal reflection (TIR), increasing the parasitic solar absorption and the radiative thermal load. This work introduces a scattering-enhanced light extraction strategy that overcomes the TIR limit in fluorescent films. A sequential quadratic programming-driven optimization model establishes the theoretical minimum radiative thermal load for both traditional and fluorescent-colored surfaces. Results reveal that while traditional absorption-based color achieves only 19.3% sub-ambient cooling chromaticity in the CIE 1931 color space, light extraction technology expands the range from 26.7% to 64.9% for fluorescent color. TiO 2 nanoparticles enhance light extraction through multiple Mie-scattering, with Monte Carlo ray-tracing simulation identifying an optimal 0.5 wt% TiO 2 nanoparticle concentration yielding 85.9% light extraction efficiency, significantly outperforming the TiO 2 -free fluorescent film (25.3%) and a higher 15 wt.% concentration (66.6%). Outdoor experiments confirm the optimal 0.5 wt% sample exhibits a 4.1 °C temperature decrease compared to the control (0 wt.%) sample. This approach offers cost-effective scalability advantages over microtexture-based light extraction methods.
