A sensitive colorimetric sensor based on one-pot preparation of h-Fe3O4@ppy with high peroxidase-like activity for determination of glutathione and H2O2

Wei Yang,Chenyuan Weng,Xiaoyun Li,Hongliang He,Jianwen Fei,Wei Xu,Xiaoqiang Yan,Wanying Zhu,Hongsong Zhang,Xuemin Zhou

At present, artificial mimic enzyme has become a powerful substitute for natural enzyme. In particular, the biosensors based on nano-enzymes have been the focus of current research. Herein, a novel magnetic ternary nanocomposite hemin-Fe 3 O 4 @polypyrrole (h-Fe 3 O 4 @ppy) was synthesized by chemical oxidation polymerization. The results showed that the h-Fe 3 O 4 @ppy had stronger peroxidase activity than Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs) and h-ppy NPs, and was indicated by Michaelis-Menten constant (K m ) and maximum initial velocity (V max ). Therefore, we used h-Fe 3 O 4 @ppy catalyzing H 2 O 2 to oxidize the chromogenic substrate TMB, and built Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and Glutathione (GSH) colorimetric biosensors with the help of signal intrinsic exponential amplification and easy operation. The controllable catalysis was realized by h-Fe 3 O 4 @ppy which was prone to separation. The method of removing h-Fe 3 O 4 @ppy by magnetic separation effectively eliminated the effect of residual catalysis when terminating the reaction. The sensor was then applied to the determination of GSH in biological samples from acute coronary syndrome patients. The linear ranges of H 2 O 2 and GSH were 0.2–100 μM and 0.5–80 μM, respectively. The detection limits of H 2 O 2 and GSH are 0.18 μM and 0.15 μM, respectively. This research not only proposes a new type of nanoenzyme, but also shows the multiple advantages of magnetic nano-enzymes for the construction of biosensors.

Determination of Hypochlorite via Fluorescence Change from Blue to Green Based on 4-(1 H-imidazo [4,5-f] [1,10]-phenanthrolin-2-yl) Benzaldehyde Oxime

Wu Chuqiao,Lin Xin,Wang Qianming

The new design strategy will provide the possibility for preparing a dynamic sensor by employing the inhibition of C = N isomerization. In this work, the functional probe 4-(1 H-imidazo [4,5-f] [1,10]-phenanthrolin-2-yl) benzaldehyde oxime (compound 4 ) has been synthesized and such molecule gives rise to blue emission. Due to the incorporation of hypochlorite, the oxime group can be oxidized to the structure of aldehyde. As a result, the molecular motif exhibits sharp emission change from blue to green due to the addition of hypochlorite with enough sensitivity and selectivity (detection limit = 53 nM, linear range 0.5-8.0 µM). It has also been used for monitoring ClO − by employing solution color change and the absorption signal difference could effectively rule out the effects of interference species. To our knowledge, it will be the first case of a highly selective hypochlorite sensor derived from oxime isomerization reaction based on phenanthroline backbone.

Catalytic alcoholysis of saponins in D. zingiberensis C. H. Wright (Curcuma longa L) with magnetic solid acid to prepare diosgenin by response surface methodology

Wenxiu Jiang,Xuejun Yu,Yuan Hui,Bowei Shen,Zhang Farong,Zhiquan Pan,Hong Zhou

Diosgenin is an important intermediate of steroid hormone drugs, green production of diosgenin with high yield is a key research issue. In this study, a convenient, efficient, and eco-friendly approach was developed to produce diosgenin from saponins in D. zingiberensis C. H. Wright (Curcuma longa L) using a magnetic solid acid. Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -Pr-S-SO 3 H is a heterogeneous catalyst and was obtained by loading 3-(mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 , followed by sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid. The magnetic solid acid catalyst was fully characterized by Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR) spectra, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope(SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), NH 3 -TPD, elemental mapping analysis. The effects of single factors, such as the solid acid mass, alcoholysis temperature, extraction time, and solvent volume on the diosgenin yield were analyzed. The extraction parameters for diosgenin were optimized by response surface methodology (RSM). The optimized values for the solid acid mass, solvent volume, extraction time, and temperature were 0.22 g, 7.8 mL, 7.4 h, and 100 °C, respectively. Under the optimized conditions, the maximum yield of diosgenin was 19.15 %. The solid acid reported in this work exhibited higher catalytic activity at a smaller dosage than traditional sulfuric acid and other solid acids. The alcoholysis products were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). Alcoholysis catalysed by an as-prepared magnetic solid acid is clearly superior in terms of catalytic activity, dosage, and reusability. It is a promising strategy for the green production of diosgenin.

Kinetic study of furfural production from Eucalyptus sawdust using H-SAPO-34 as solid Brønsted acid and Lewis acid catalysts in biomass-derived solvents

Xiaoyun Li,Jiaxin Yang,Rui Xu,Lefu Lu,Fangong Kong,Min Liang,Lijie Jiang,Shuangxi Nie,Chuanling Si

The production of platform chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass is scientifically valuable but technologically challenging. With the aim to establish a green reaction system for the production of furfural from lignocellulosic biomass, in the current work, H-SAPO-34 was investigated for catalysis of the conversion of Eucalyptus sawdust to furfural in γ-valerolactone (GVL). H-SAPO-34 was prepared and characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, BET, TGA and ammonia adsorbed FTIR. H-SAPO-34 possesses Brønsted and Lewis acid sites and a large specific surface area. The average pore diameter of H-SAPO-34 was 0.86 nm, which is beneficial for the spread of xylose and furfural and the inhibition of humin production. In this work, a peak furfural yield of 99.28% from Eucalyptus was achieved at 210 °C in 120 min with 30 g/L H-SAPO-34. The Brønsted/Lewis acid bifunctionality and the solvent effect of γ-valerolactone possibly contributed to the high furfural yield from real biomass. The kinetics of the conversion of Eucalyptus sawdust to furfural was also studied, and the activation energy for furfural production was calculated. Additionally, the catalytic activity and stability of the regenerated catalyst were estimated.

Four binuclear coordination polymers with a 63 net and self-assembly of 2D 63 topology into different supramolecular networks using unit–unit H-bonds

Guohai Xu,Min Xie,Xiaokang Li,Wenjie Shi,Hui Yu,Yinhui Hu,Xiaochen Xun,Yongrong Xie

In this work, crystal engineering is focused on the self-assembly of 2D 63 topology into different supramolecular networks using unit–unit H-bonds. Four related coordination polymers, [Zn2(teaH2)(ndc)1.5]·MeOH (1), [Co2(teaH2)(ndc)1.5]·MeOH (2), [Zn2(deaH)(ndc)1.5]·MeOH (3) and [Co2(teaH2)(btb)]·3EtOH (4) where ndc2− = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, btb3− = benzene-1,3,5-tribenzoate, teaH3 = triethanolamine, and deaH2 = diethanolamine, contain a well-known 63 subnet and the binuclear units. Furthermore, their 63 nets present different hexagonal windows (chair- or ship-shaped) and diversified layer arrays (ABAB or ABCABC sequence). The 63 subnet and symmetry-related unit–unit H-bonds as supramolecular synthons can build up different supramolecular networks. Compounds 1 and 2 show a distorted diamond supramolecular network due to formation of a square-pyramidal node. Because the formation of a seesaw-shaped node, compound 3 features a general diamond supramolecular network with 3-fold interpenetration. Compound 4 exhibits a binodal supramolecular framework in that H-bonding interactions occur between three binuclear units. In addition, the diversified layer array has endowed compound 4 with a large 1D channel, which can be characterized by standard N2 adsorptions. Compound 4 has a type I adsorption isotherm with an appreciable adsorption of 45.04 cm3 g−1 at 0.40 P/P0, whereas 1–3 do not exhibit appreciable N2 uptake.

Synergistic Effect of H+ and I− Oxidation Enables Long-Term Stability of the Precursor Solutions and Enhanced Performance of FA-Dominated Perovskite Solar Cells

Song Yin,Xuewei Jiao,Xudong Liu,Mingxuan Liu,Bingshun Xu,Na Li,Yonghao Lu,Shaopeng Yang,Weiguang Kong

The role of MA in FAMA mixed perovskite remains far from being fully understood, due to the intricate chemical evolutions in the precursor solutions. Adjusting the content of MA in FAMA mixed perovskite arbitrarily remains a great challenge. This study elucidates a synergistic effect between H + and I − oxidation which helps to reduce the content of MA in FA-dominated perovskite. Briefly, excessive H + boosts the balanced and rapid assembly of MA and FA components in FA-dominated perovskite and hampers unfavorable chemical evolution induced by nucleophilic reaction between MA and FA in the precursor solution, while I − oxidation accelerates the in situ crystallization of perovskite. Leveraging this synergistic effect, centimeter-scaled FA x MA (1-x) PbI 3 single crystals with arbitrarily adjustable values of x are successfully fabricated. In addition, peroxyacetic acid is introduced as the additive, enabling the blade-coated FA 0.9 MA 0.1 PbI 3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs) to achieve an impressive efficiency of 23.7%. The efficiency achieved here is among the highest values for blade-coated PSCs with FA content exceeding 90% so far. The optimized solution developed in this study achieved exceptional stability, allowing it to be stored under air conditions for over 2 months without significant degradation in cell efficiency. This outcome satisfies the requirements for commercialization.

Screening, fingerprinting, and identification of phenolic antioxidants in Persicaria chinensis (L.) H. Gross by liquid chromatography – electrochemical detection and liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry

Xijin Yang,Ying Li,Qiju Shao,Zhirong Li,Zeli Chun,Yan Wang,Yaping Zhou,Rongxiang Chen

Persicaria chinensis (L.) H. Gross ( P. chinensis ), also known as “Huotanmu” in Chinese, is a traditional ethnic herbal medicine and a functional food ingredient. In this study, liquid chromatography − electrochemical detection (LC-ECD) screening, liquid chromatography − tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) identification, and multivariate statistical analysis were combined to clarify the antioxidant components in P. chinensis . The samples were extracted using 80 % aqueous methanol under ultrasound-assisted extraction and their in vitro antioxidant activities were evaluated. The fingerprint of P. chinensis was established using LC-ECD, while the identification of major chemical components was performed using LC-MS/MS through comparison of ion fragments. Subsequently, grey correlation analysis and partial least squares regression analysis were used to investigate the association of different compounds with antioxidant activity. P. chinensis from different sources showed excellent DPPH radical scavenging capacity, ABTS radical scavenging capacity, and ferric reducing antioxidant power. A total of 25 common peaks were obtained and identified in the LC-ECD fingerprint of P. chinensis , which were primarily comprised of tannins and flavonoids. The similarity between samples of different batches was ≥ 0.767, indicating relatively consistent quality. The comprehensive analysis results of grey relational analysis and partial least squares regression analysis indicated that tannins such as di-galloyl-HHDP-hexoside and davidiin were the major contributors to the antioxidant activity of P. chinensis . Therefore, LC-ECD can rapidly screen the potential phenolic antioxidants of P. chinensis , providing a basis for its product development, resource utilization, and quality control.

Unveiling the promoting effect of water on formaldehyde oxidation over Pt/TiO2: insights from H/D kinetic isotope effect, in situ FTIR, and DFT

Lu Wang,Siyuan Zhang,Jukun Xiong,Meicheng Wen

Formaldehyde (HCHO), a prevalent indoor volatile organic compound, poses significant health risks to humans even at very low concentrations. As a result, its efficient degradation at room temperature is of utmost importance. However, the detailed mechanism for catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde remains unclear, particularly regarding the role of water vapor, which has been subject to considerable debate. In this study, we synthesized Pt-supported TiO2 glass fiber catalysts (Pt/TiO2 GF) via NaBH4 reduction to investigate the reaction pathways and clarify the influence of water vapor on the oxidation process. The reaction mechanism and intermediates were systematically studied at room temperature using in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS), kinetic isotope effect (KIE) analysis, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Results revealed a clear reaction pathway of HCHO → DOM → HCOO− → CO2, with formate C–H bond cleavage (HCOO−* + O* → CO2 + OH*) identified as the rate-determining step. Both experimental KIE results and theoretical calculations confirmed that water vapor substantially reduces the activation barrier for this step, significantly promoting formate decomposition and subsequent CO2 formation. This work provides critical insights into the role of water in enhancing formaldehyde oxidation and offers theoretical support for developing efficient catalysts suitable for humid environments.

Nano-size core-shell magnetic SO₃H-functionalized covalent organic frameworks via a functional defect strategy for cationic dye purification: Adsorption behavior and mechanism

Chuqiang Que,Hongwei Zhu,Chang Liu,Ziang Qiang,Chen Xu,Minjie Li,Jia Liu,Jing Cao,Pengjian Zuo,Jing Wang,Xin Yang

With the rapid expansion of textile printing and aquaculture industries, efficient dye wastewater treatment is urgently needed. Here, magnetic sulfonic acid-functionalized covalent organic frameworks (Fe 3 O 4 @TpBD-SO 3 H COFs) were synthesized via a functional defect strategy using 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulfonic acid (ADSA) as a competing monomer, generating periodic and sulfonate-rich nano adsorbent. Adsorption experiments involving malachite green (MG) and crystal violet (CV) in single and binary systems, supported by adsorption model fitting, indicated multimolecular adsorption through non-parallel molecular orientations. In binary adsorption system, MG enhanced CV adsorption (synergistic effect), whereas CV suppressed MG adsorption (antagonistic effect). Dynamic competitive adsorption tests suggested that adsorption configuration transitions between single and binary systems influenced this co-adsorption phenomenon. Incorporating Fe 3 O 4 magnetic cores rendered Fe 3 O 4 @TpBD-SO 3 H COFs highly hydrophilic, achieving excellent adsorption capacities for MG (1010.6 mg/g) and other cationic dyes, while minimally adsorbing anionic dyes. Moreover, the material exhibited strong resistance to interference from metal salts and maintained stable adsorption performance after ten regeneration cycles. Successful purification of real wastewater samples further demonstrates its practical potential for selective cationic dye removal from complex aqueous systems.
