Membrane Distillation (MD) technology stands out for its cost-effectiveness and sustainability in diverse applications, such as high-salinity wastewater treatment and seawater desalination. However, conventional MD membranes frequently encounter challenges associated with inadequate permeate flux and insufficient anti-wetting performance. In the present study, we fabricated a series of ZIF-CoZn@PVDF-HFP composite nanofiber membranes with a core–shell structure via coaxial electrospinning. Here, PVDF-HFP functions as the core, while a blend of bimetallic Zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-CoZn nanoparticles and PVDF-HFP constitutes the shell. Through the utilization of the coaxial technology, functional nanoparticles achieve uniform and stably dispersed on the nanofiber surface, leading to the creation of a secondary rough structure in addition to the inherent roughness of single-nozzle electrospinning. This results in a surface with a 3D-hierarchical structure. The significantly amplifies the evaporation area on the surface of the composite nanofiber membrane, thereby bolstering the permeate flux in the MD process. Additionally, the incorporation of bimetallic ZIF-CoZn nanoparticles, recognized for their superior hydrophobicity and low thermal conductivity, improves the anti-wetting and heat-insulating properties of the composite nanofiber membrane, further advancing permeate flux performance. Using a 35 g L −1 NaCl as the feed solution, the optimal 1 % ZIF-CoZn@PVDF-HFP composite nanofiber membrane demonstrated a permeate flux of 21.8 L m −2 h −1 , coupled with a salt rejection rate exceeding 99.9 %. Even during long-term MD testing, it maintained excellent insulation and anti-wetting capabilities. Our research offers a convenient and effective approach for fabricating anti-wetting composite nanofiber membranes.

With the wide applications of polymer dielectrics in electronic devices and power supply systems, it is of great importance to explore polymeric composites with simultaneously high dielectric permittivity ( ε ) along with low loss ( tan δ ), and large breakdown strength ( E b ). To concurrently achieve these superior qualities in silicon (Si)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), in this study, a sol-gel method was used to decorate raw Si with a layer of titanium oxide (TiO 2 ), which was then incorporated into PVDF to produce a series of Si@TiO 2 /PVDF composites with diverse TiO 2 shell thicknesses. The findings demonstrate that compared with pristine Si/PVDF both loss and leakage conductivity of Si@TiO 2 /PVDF are markedly decreased by the TiO 2 shell, which enhances the interfacial compatibility between Si and PVDF, and blocks the creation of conductive network from virgin Si particles, inhibiting the long-range migration of carriers. Furthermore, the TiO 2 interlayer not only induces traps and increases the energy barrier height for trapped charges to de-trap, but also mitigates the intense interfacial dielectric mismatch subsequently lifting the E b . The theoretic fitting results via Havriliak-Negami equation demonstrate the TiO 2 shell’ suppression on charge migration and reveal the underlying polarization mechanism. Fine assembly of TiO 2 with desirable thickness onto Si realizes effective regulation of over dielectric parameters of the composites. The developed Si@TiO 2 /PVDF present concurrently high ε , E b but low loss characteristics, indicating promising potential applications in advanced electronic devices and power systems.

Polymer-based flexible materials can be slated as successors of conventional inorganic ferroelectrics to induce tunable dielectric properties in microwave devices because of their advantageous characteristics, such as lightweight, flexibility, easy processibility, and eco-friendliness. Ferroelectric polymers require a high external field to induce dielectric tunability, which can be a problem. Another problem is the dielectric mismatch and incompatibility between ceramic and polymer, which hinders the ceramic-polymer composites to induce tunable dielectric properties. Herin, titanium oxide-barium strontium titanate (TO@BST) core-shell nanoparticle are reinforced into the poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix to fabricate flexible nanocomposite with tunable dielectric properties. The core-shell nanoparticle-based nanocomposite produced low voltage dielectric tunability (12.03 % at 33 kV/mm) and excellent tunable dielectric efficiency ( T uE , 0.8 %) while maintaining low dielectric loss (tanδ, 0.024). Moreover, TO@BST-based nanocomposite exhibited a remarkable 91 % improvement in dielectric constant compared to pure PVDF and a 25.7 % improvement compared to BST-based nanocomposite. The dielectric breakdown strength ( E b ) of the nanocomposite filled with 40 wt% TO@BST nanoparticle improved by 45 % (114.36 kV/mm) compared to pure BST-based nanocomposite (78.68 kV/mm). This work provides valuable insights into designing novel flexible nanocomposites with low voltage tunability and high breakdown strength at high filler loading.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to develop an innovative solution for chronic wounds in high-mobility areas, such as joints, where conventional treatments are hindered by passive healing mechanisms and the need for immobilization. By designing a micro-electro-Nanofiber dressing composed of piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) integrated with antimicrobial silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), this research aims to address the dual challenges of promoting effective wound healing and maintaining joint mobility. Methods Herein, we developed a novel micro-electro-Nanofiber dressing using electrospinning technology, incorporating polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The optimized PVDF-AgNPs Nanofiber dressings exhibited strong piezoelectric effects suitable for joint wounds. Results In vitro experiments demonstrated that the dressing effectively promoted fibroblast migration and collagen synthesis. In vivo, the dressing exhibited a trend of rapid healing in infected wounds within 12 days while modulating macrophage differentiation toward the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. Additionally, the incorporation of antimicrobial nanosilver effectively controlled local infections, further facilitating the healing process. Conclusion To sum up, by harnessing the piezoelectric effect to stimulate endogenous healing mechanisms without restricting joint mobility, the developed PVDF-AgNPs Nanofiber dressings represent a transformative approach for the treatment of wounds in highly mobile body areas.

Due to the development of advanced electronic systems, there is an urgent need for polymer dielectric film capacitors with high breakdown strength ( E b ) and high discharge energy density ( U d ) at elevated temperatures. Herein, an all-organic blend polymer composite is fabricated by blending polyetherimide (PEI) and a trace amount of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), achieving nanoscale phase separation and forming interfaces between PEI and PVDF grain. The real permittivity ( ε r ) and E b of blend composites are simultaneously enhanced after PVDF introduction. It is worth noting that increasing the temperature does not reduce the E b of the PEI/xPVDF blend composite. Our Study shows that optimizing the plasticity and storage modulus of PEI/xPVDF significantly contributes to maintaining E b at elevated temperatures. Additionally, high temperatures enhance the entanglement of molecular chains at the PVDF-PEI interface, further supporting the preservation of E b . Finally, a high E b of 540 MV/m, a high U d of 5.92 J/cm 3 are achieved for the PEI/0.5PVDF blend at 150 °C. This work presents a new approach to enhance the E b of dielectric polymers by optimizing mechanical properties at high temperature, which providing a different strategy for enhancing the energy storage performance.

Construction of ultra-thin and defect-free separation membrane on inner surface of hollow fiber supports is significant but challenging for molecular separation. In this study, the highly permeable PDMS@ZIF-8/PVDF composite membranes were successfully fabricated upon the inner-surface of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane for pervaporation (PV) ethanol/water separation. The efficient preparation of hierarchical PDMS@ZIF-8/PVDF composite membranes benefited from the precise regulation of ZIF-8 layer through interfacial synthesis and sequential coating of PDMS matrix. The thickness of the PDMS layer was only 16 ± 2 nm, which admirably eliminated the non-selective defects in ZIF-8 layer. Owning to the optimal combination of MOF layer and ultra-thin polymer layer, the as-prepared membrane exhibited the excellent ethanol flux of 1.34 kg m −2 h −1 with an ethanol concentration in permeate of 31.3 wt% for separating 5 wt% ethanol aqueous solution at 40 °C. The separation performance of the resultant membrane was superior to that of the other ethanol selective PV membranes . These findings herein provided a new way for preparing high-performance hollow fiber composite membranes for PV separation.

Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has been widely used in research on electrochemiluminescence (ECL) due to its excellent luminescence intensity. In this work, copper superparticles (Cu SPs) were used to construct ECL biosensor to detect the microRNA-103a (miRNA-103a) in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) tumor tissues. Firstly, GSH-capped copper clusters were used as precursors to prepare Cu SPs by the AIE effect. Compared with clusters, Cu SPs possessed higher luminescence performance and energy stability, making them an ideal choice for ECL nanoprobe. The film of PVDF-HFP/CeVO 4 NPs was constructed and modified with CPBA and GSH as the sensing interface (PCCG). The PCCG film displayed good conductivity and hydrophilicity, and desirable mechanical stability. Moreover, the PCCG film can induce high carrier mobility rates and dissociate large amounts of the co-reactant K 2 S 2 O 8 to enhance the ECL intensity of Cu SPs. As a result, the prepared ECL sensor with the catalyzed hairpin assembly (CHA) strategy was employed to quantify miRNA-103a in the range of 100 fM to 100 nM. The biosensor provided a novel analytical approach for the clinical diagnosis of TNBC.

In this work, a new polyvinylidene fluoride nano-ultrafiltration membrane modified by graphene oxide/ titanium dioxide doped with cerium composite materials (GO/Ce-TiO 2 -PVDF) was prepared by phase inversion method. The water contact angle, porosity, pore size distribution , and photocatalytic performance of the membrane were studied. Compared with the PVDF membrane, the water contact angle of the modified membrane decreased to 36.5°, the pure water flux improved to 119.64 L·m -2 ·h -1 , and the retention rate of bovine serum albumin (BSA) was 95.3%. The synergistic effect of GO and Ce-TiO 2 could improve the photocatalytic activity of the composite membrane , and the degradation rate of BSA was 97.4%. The flux recovery rate (FRR) of the modified membrane was 82.38%, which was 22.24% higher than that of the PVDF membrane (67.39%). The FRR of the modified membrane increased to 91.54% under water cleaning and UV irradiation. Five cycle experiments showed that the permeate flux of the polluted membrane was further restored from 78.45 L·m -2 ·h -1 to 76.95 L·m -2 ·h -1 after UV irradiation, and the retention rate of BSA was maintained at about 95%. Therefore, as predicted, the GO/Ce-TiO 2 -PVDF membrane could be widely applied in the water treatment industry due to its high anti-fouling and self-cleaning performances.

The presence of methyl orange (MO) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) in wastewater poses a serious threat to the environment and human health. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) are widely studied as photocatalysts for wastewater treatment. However, TiO2 NPs have the drawbacks of high energy required for activation, fast electron–hole pair recombination and difficulty in recovering from water. To overcome these problems, europium decorated titanium dioxide/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (Eu–TiO2/PVDF) membranes were successful prepared in this work by combining the modified sol–gel method and the immersion phase inversion method. The Eu–TiO2/PVDF membranes obtained with the increase of Eu–TiO2 NPs content during the preparation process were named M1, M2 and M3, respectively. The pure PVDF membrane without the addition of Eu–TiO2 NPs was named M0, which was prepared by the immersion phase inversion method and served as a reference. The prepared Eu–TiO2/PVDF membranes could not only adsorb MO, but also degrade CIP under visible-light irradiation. Moreover, the Eu–TiO2/PVDF membranes exhibited adsorption–photocatalytic activity towards a mixture of MO and CIP under visible-light irradiation. Last but not the least, the Eu–TiO2/PVDF membranes exhibited excellent recyclability and reusability, opening the avenue for a possible use of these membranes in sewage-treatment plants.

Amphiphilic copolymer Pluronic F127 was used as macromolecular additive to investigate the polymorphism and thermoresponsive properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membranes. Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were conducted to characterize the polymorphism and morphology of PVDF/F127 blend membranes. FTIR results indicated that F127 existed stably in the blend membranes, and lower F127 concentration in the cast solution was in favor of the formation of α-crystal phase, but higher F127 concentration could promote the formation of β- and γ-crystal phase in PVDF membranes. The results of XRD also confirmed these phenomena. With the increase of F127 in the cast solutions, a more sponge-like structure appeared at the bottom surface of the membranes as investigated by SEM. PVDF/F127 blend membranes also exhibited good thermoresponsive properties. The water flux of the membranes increased distinctly with the increase of the experimental temperature, decreased with the decrease of the temperature, and the increasing and decreasing curves were almost overlapped. Contact angle measurement and permeation experiment indicated that the blend membranes had good hydrophilicity and fouling resistance. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012

The flexibility, wide response range, and ultra-high sensitivity of flexible sensors make them suitable forwearable technology, automated manufacturing, and robotics. The development of raw materials for flexible sensors and the design of their source layer structures can address a range of issues. In this article, we aim to develop flexible sensors for wearable technology by preparing MXene/PVDF@ZIF-8 multilayer nanofiber membranes through electrospinning technology. By incorporating ZIF-8 particles into PVDF fibers through in situ electrospinning technology, flexible sensors with a rough structure were obtained. We similarly employed vacuum filtration technology to introduce MXene nanosheets into PVDF@ZIF-8 nanofibers, further constructing a conductive network with a multidimensional structure in the vertical direction of the film. The performance of the prepared MXene/PVDF@ZIF-8 composite fiber membrane pressure sensor was tested, revealing its wide working range (0–125 kPa), high sensitivity (25.8–77.9 kPa -1 ), load/unload Time (20 ms/30 ms), and strong mechanical stability. Various human movements and lying postures were simulated, confirming that the sensor can effectively provide feedback on external pressure applied to the skin. This also demonstrates the broad application prospects of the flexible sensor in the field of flexible wearables.

The problem of low charge/discharge efficiency of ceramic/polymer composites is still one of the hot topics in current research on dielectric materials. Here, we demonstrate that the ferroelectric property of ceramic/PVDF-based composites can be modulated by the introduction of linear polymer PI and the use of a spin-coating process. PI inhibits some polarization and partial dipole orientation by interacting with the molecular chains of the amorphous phase of PVDF and BT nanoparticles. As a result, the decrease in crystallinity and loss led to improved dielectric properties and charge/discharge efficiency. The findings demonstrate that the microstructure of PVDF-PI/BT nanocomposite is uniform and dense, with outstanding dielectric characteristics and high charge/discharge efficiency. The permittivities were stabilized in the range of 12.87–17.86 at 100 Hz, and the dielectric losses were all less than 0.27. Compared with the previously reported binary ceramic/polymer composites, the PVDF-PI/BT nanocomposites possessed a high charge/discharge efficiency with a small variation (63%-84%). This work offers an easy and efficient scheme to obtain nanocomposites with outstanding dielectric characteristics and charge/discharge efficiency. It may be a potential candidate for flexible dielectric substrates for advanced flexible capacitive energy storage devices.
