It is a great challenge to improve calcium sulfate bone cement properties. Here, nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HA), silica (SiO 2 ) and calcium phosphate (CP) were individually added to compare the improvement effect for calcium sulfate/chitosan composite bone cement. The results showed that three particles were all dispersed in calcium sulfate, which prolonged bone cement solidification time, and the proper amount of n-HA and SiO 2 increased the compressive strength, while CP resulted in a lower compressive strength because of the looser structure. Moreover, they did not cause excessive acid or alkali and had good biological activity during the degradation. More importantly, they all promoted cell proliferation, and SiO 2 had the best promotion effect. In a word, 2.5 % SiO 2 displayed the best reinforce effect, appropriate setting time and degradation rate as well as excellent cytocompatibility for calcium sulfate/chitosan composite bone cement, which would have a great potential to be used in bone defect repair field.

Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have achieved remarkable progress in recent years, with green-emitting PeLEDs now exhibiting external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) exceeding 30%, rivaling those of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). While quasi-2D perovskite structures have emerged as a promising strategy for high-efficiency PeLEDs─owing to their enhanced exciton binding energies and charge carrier confinement─their phase distribution remains a critical yet challenging factor governing device performance. In this study, we demonstrate that the phase distribution in quasi-2D perovskite films is highly sensitive to the solvent atmosphere during annealing. Polar solvents (e.g., dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide) introduce nonradiative recombination centers and accelerate film decomposition, whereas nonpolar solvents (e.g., chlorobenzene) suppress degradation and promote high-n-phase purity. By employing nonpolar solvent vapor post-treatment, we achieve enhanced radiative recombination efficiency, yielding PeLEDs with a maximum EQE of 24.27%. Our findings highlight a previously overlooked aspect of perovskite film fabrication and provide key insights for the scalable production of quasi-2D PeLEDs.

Efficient and spectrally stable pure-red perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) are still rare and urgently needed for high-definition display. The traditional color tuning method by varying halide composition undergoes phase segregation and has spectral instability issues. Instead of halide mixing, we fabricate pure-red PeLEDs based on quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) perovskites by simultaneously incorporating phenethylammonium (PEA) and 1-naphthylmethylammonium (NMA) cations. The control of PEA and NMA cospacer ratio modulates the phase distribution and the resulting different color emission. The PeLEDs with PEA:NMA molar ratio of 5:5 exhibit a pure-red (635 nm) electroluminescence (EL) with a CIE coordinate (0.709, 0.285) approaching the Rec. 2020 specification. Meanwhile, the optimized devices exhibit an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 12.41% and a maximum brightness of 1452.6 cd m–2, which are among the best-performing pure-red PeLEDs based on quasi-2D perovskite to date. Additionally, our PeLEDs demonstrate stable EL spectra under different operating voltages and continuous operation.

Squamous cell carcinoma remains a highly aggressive malignancy with persistently high global incidence and mortality rates, posing significant challenges for effective treatment. Traditional chemotherapies lack specificity, leading to damage in normal tissues and severe side effects, highlighting the urgent need for targeted therapeutic strategies. In this study, copper and calcium co-doped carbon dots (Cu/Ca-CDs) were synthesized using a vacuum-confined heating method. These Cu/Ca-CDs demonstrated excellent tumor-targeting ability through specific binding to folate receptors on murine squamous cell carcinoma cell line (SCC7), facilitated by their pterin ring structure. Mechanistic studies revealed that Cu/Ca-CDs induced SCC7 tumor cell death through copper-induced cuproptosis and calcium overload-mediated apoptosis, as confirmed by Western blot, immunofluorescence staining, and Rhod-2 calcium probe analyses. The dual-mode imaging capability of Cu/Ca-CDs, enabled by fluorescence and computed tomography properties, allowed for real-time tracking of their distribution and accumulation within tumors. This imaging-guided approach ensured precise delivery to tumor tissues while minimizing damage to normal tissues. In vivo experiments demonstrated significant tumor volume reduction and increased survival rates in tumor-bearing mice treated with Cu/Ca-CDs, without any observed toxicity to normal tissues or changes in body weight, underscoring the efficacy and biosafety of Cu/Ca-CDs. These findings highlight Cu/Ca-CDs as a promising strategy for precision oncology, offering effective tumor targeting, dual-mode imaging, and synergistic anti-tumor efficacy with reduced side effects.

Recent progress in inverted perovskite solar cells (IPSCs) mainly focused on NiOx modification and perovskite (PVK) regulation to enhance efficiency and stability. However, most works address only monofunctional modifications, and identical molecules with the ability to simultaneously optimize NiOx interface and perovskite bulk phase have been rarely reported. This work proposes a dual modification approach using 4-amino-3,5-dichlorobenzotrifluoride (DCTM) to optimize both NiOx upper interfaces and reduction of bulk defects in perovskite. Amino group in DCTM increases the Ni3+/Ni2+ ratio in NiOx, thereby increasing the conductivity and optimizing the energy alignment. Additionally, DCTM fills Pb2+ and I– vacancies in perovskite, which improves the vertical orientation of perovskite grains and subsequently reduces nonradiative recombination, thereby achieving the increased carrier lifetime. PVK modified by DCTM exhibits enhanced energy level alignment with the electron transport layer, while femtosecond transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy confirms that DCTM facilitates efficient carrier transport, leading to high-performance IPSCs. The optimized IPSCs achieve a maximum efficiency of 22.8% with a reduced hysteresis (0.7%). Moreover, the unencapsulated device preserves over 80% of its initial power conversion efficiency (PCE) after 1000 h stored in air at 30% relative humidity. This dual modification strategy of monomolecular offers a straightforward solution for interface optimization and provides new insights into selecting aniline-derived molecules for high-performance IPSCs.

Chiral hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) are widely investigated due to their superior chiroptical and chiral spintronic properties. Research on the enhancement of chiroptical performance is highly important for the real application of chiral HOIPs. This work employed a rare earth doping strategy to increase the magnetic transition dipole moment of chiral 2D HOIPs R -/ S -NPB (NPB = 1-(1-naphthyl) ethylammonium lead bromide). Doping with Eu 3+ does not change the original layered NPB microstructure, and R -/ S -NPB-Eu exhibited the magnetic dipole-allowed transition luminescence of Eu 3+ at 594 nm ( 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 ). Circular polarized luminescence (CPL) spectra combined with theoretical calculations and transient photoluminescence measurements indicated that the introduction of Eu 3+ can enhance the magnetic transition dipole moment of R -/ S -NPB, thus resulting in an unprecedented g lum of 0.05. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest value for chiral perovskite films. This work combines the unique and superior optoelectronic properties of rare-earth ions with chiral perovskite and develops an efficient strategy to increase its anisotropy factor, which can accelerate the development of chiral optoelectronics and spintronics towards real application.

Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have exhibited tremendous potential for commercial applications in the fields of displays, lighting, and information technology. For achieving pure red electroluminescence, quasi-two-dimensional (Q-2D) perovskite based on Br/I mixed halides has been commonly used. However, during the in-situ crystallization process of perovskite films via low-temperature solution methods, the complexity of coordination among various ions leads to the presence of uncoordinated ions, resulting in numerous defects in the perovskite films. These defects significantly impact the performance and stability of PeLEDs. In this work, hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) was incorporated into the hole transport layer (HTL) to passivate the defects in perovskite films. Experimental results showed that the hydroxyl groups in HEC interacted with Pb 2+ /K + /PEA + ions in the perovskite, contributing to the passivation of defects. Simultaneously, the addition of HEC inhibited the low-dimensional phases (n=1, 2) and enhanced the high-dimensional phase (n=3) in the Q-2D perovskite films. The optimized distribution of n phases was favorable for the radiative recombination. After the introduction of HEC, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) of pure red PeLEDs at 636 nm showed a significant improvement compared to the control device, from 5.31% to 6.82%. This strategy provides an excellent alterative to improve the electroluminescent efficiency of red PeLEDs.

Lattice strain and phase purity issues in blue perovskite materials severely limit the further improvement of device performance. As an important strategy to modulate the properties of perovskite materials, A-site cation engineering can effectively modulate lattice strain and phase distribution by selecting suitable cations. In this work, based on the Cs+/EA+ benchmark two-dimensional perovskite system, the divalent ion MDA2+ was introduced to partially replace EA+, and it was found that the appropriate amount of substitution led to the release of perovskite lattice strain, a reduction of the small n-phase, a reduction of unreacted PbBr2 and PbCl2, and a significant increase in luminescence efficiency. This study provides a novel A-site cation engineering strategy for perovskite lattice strain release, phase distribution regulation, and an important material design pathway for developing high-quality blue perovskite films.

Calcium overload therapy refers to the condition of intracellular Ca 2+ overload, which causes mitochondrial damage and leads to the uncontrolled release of apoptotic factors into the cytoplasm through the open mitochondrial permeability pore. Based on this, it is playing an increasingly important role in the field of oncology due to its good efficacy and small side effects. However, the regulation of calcium homeostasis by cancer cells themselves, insufficient calcium ions (Ca 2+ ) in tumor sites and low efficiency of calcium entering tumor have limited its efficacy, resulting in unsatisfactory therapeutic effect. Therefore, a novel CAP/BSA@TCP-ZIF-8 nanoparticle drug carrier system was constructed that can provide Ca 2+ from exogenous sources for pH-controlled degradation and drug release at the same time. Both in vivo and in vitro experiments have proved that the nanomaterial can activate TRPV1 channels and provide exogenous Ca 2+ to cause Ca 2+ overload and apoptosis, thus achieving anti-tumor effects.

Sucrose emerges as a chelating agent to form a stable sucrose-metal-ion chelate that can potentially improve metal-ion absorption. This study aimed to analyze the structure of sucrose-calcium chelate and its potential to promote calcium absorption in both Caco-2 monolayer cells and mice. The characterization results showed that calcium ions mainly chelated with hydroxyl groups in sucrose to produce sucrose-calcium chelate, altering the crystal structure of sucrose (forming polymer particles) and improving its thermal stability. Sucrose-calcium chelate dose dependently increased the amount of calcium uptake, retention, and transport in the Caco-2 monolayer cell model. Compared to CaCl 2 , there was a significant improvement in the proportion of absorbed calcium utilized for transport but not retention (93.13 ± 1.75% vs. 67.67 ± 7.55%). Further treatment of calcium channel inhibitors demonstrated the active transport of sucrose-calcium chelate through Cav1.3. Cellular thermal shift assay and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assays indicated that the ability of sucrose-calcium chelate to promote calcium transport was attributed to its superior ability to bind with PMCA1b, a calcium transporter located on the basement membrane, and stimulate its gene expression compared to CaCl 2 . Pharmacokinetic analysis of mice confirmed the calcium absorption-promoting effect of sucrose-calcium chelate, as evident by the higher serum calcium level (44.12 ± 1.90 mg/L vs. 37.42 ± 1.88 mmol/L) and intestinal PMCA1b gene expression than CaCl 2 . These findings offer a new understanding of how sucrose-calcium chelate enhances intestinal calcium absorption and could be used as an ingredient in functional foods to treat calcium deficiency. Practical Application The development of high-quality calcium supplements is crucial for addressing the various adverse symptoms associated with calcium deficiency. This study aimed to prepare a sucrose-calcium chelate and analyze its structure, as well as its potential to enhance calcium absorption in Caco-2 monolayer cells and mice. The results demonstrated that the sucrose-calcium chelate effectively promoted calcium absorption. Notably, its ability to enhance calcium transport was linked to its strong binding with PMCA1b, a calcium transporter located on the basement membrane, and its capacity to stimulate PMCA1b gene expression. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how the sucrose-calcium chelate enhances intestinal calcium absorption and suggest its potential use as an ingredient in functional foods for treating calcium deficiency.

Residual stresses generated within perovskite films during the high-temperature annealing and cooling process are the key contributors to the reduction of device performance and lifespan deterioration. Herein, a strategy of surface micro-etching and reconstruction is developed to regulate the stresses in a triple-cation (formamidine, methylamine, and cesium) perovskite film. A precise stoichiometric mixture of L-lactic acid (LA) and isopropanol (IPA) is used to controllably dissolve the surface of the perovskite film, followed by octylammonium iodide (OAI) post-treatment, enabling a sinking reconstruction of 2D perovskite from the surface to bulk phase and achieving a benign transition from surface tensile stress to compressive stress, as well as a more matchable interface energy level. As a result, the target perovskite solar cells (PSCs) yield an obviously enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.54%, which is the highest reported PCE for triple-cation PSCs. Meanwhile, PSC modules with 10.4 cm2 achieve a PCE of 21.02%. Furthermore, the surface micro-etched and reconstructed PSCs exhibit superior stability, and the PSC devices without encapsulation can maintain 83% of original efficiency after 500 hour illumination at maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in a N2 atmosphere. This study provides a valuable avenue to improve PSC stability and efficiency by regulating residual stresses through surface micro-etching and reconstruction.

Metal halide perovskites have become a research highlight in the optoelectronic field due to their excellent properties. The perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have achieved great improvement in performance in recent years, and the construction of quasi-2D perovskites by incorporating large-size organic cations is an effective strategy for fabricating efficient PeLEDs. Here, we incorporate the fluorine meta-substituted phenethylammonium bromide (m-FPEABr) into CsPbBr3to prepare quasi-2D perovskite films for efficient PeLEDs, and study the effect of fluorine substitution on regulating the crystallization kinetics and phase distribution of the quasi-2D perovskites. It is found thatm-FPEABr allows the transformation of low-n phases to high-n phases during the annealing process, leading to the suppression of n = 1 phase and increasing higher-n phases with improved crystallinity. The rational phase distribution results in the formation of multiple quantum wells (MQWs) in them-FPEABr based films. The carrier dynamics study reveals that the resultant MQWs enable rapid energy funneling from low-n phases to emission centers. As a result, the green PeLEDs achieve a peak external quantum efficiency of 16.66% at the luminance of 1279 cd m−2. Our study demonstrates that the fluorinated organic cations would provide a facile and effective approach to developing high-performance PeLEDs.Keywords:perovskite light-emitting diodes;quasi-2D perovskites;fluorinated organic cations;phase distribution;carrier dynamics
