Metal sulfides are attractive anodes for sodium-ion batteries due to their high capacity and low polarization. However, single metal sulfides suffer from severe volume changes and sluggish kinetics. Constructing heterostructures offers a promising strategy, yet rational designs that achieve genuine ultra-fast charging capability remain scarce. Herein, we report metallic disc-like CoS/V 3 S 4 heterostructures encapsulated in nitrogen‑sulfur co-doped carbon (CoS/V 3 S 4 @NSC). When evaluated with an ether-based electrolyte, the optimized CoS/V 3 S 4 @NSC exhibits high initial Coulombic efficiency (>90%), high reversible capacity (622.6 mAh g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 ), excellent stability (291.5 mAh g −1 after 300 cycles at 15 A g −1 ), and remarkable ultra-fast charging capability (143.1 mAh g −1 at 40 A g −1 within 12 s). Combined in situ/ex situ studies and density functional theory calculations reveal metallicity, enhanced Na + diffusion, and a pseudocapacitive-dominated conversion mechanism. Full cells assembled with Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 @rGO cathodes further demonstrate long-term stability (414.1 mAh g −1 after 1500 cycles at 1 A g −1 ) and outstanding rate capability (324.8 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 ). This work highlights a rational heterostructure design that enables practical ultra-fast sodium-ion storage. N,S co-doped carbon encapsulated disc-like CoS/V 3 S 4 heterostructures manifest remarkable ultra-fast charging ability as advanced sodium-ion battery anodes. Various in situ/ex situ studies and DFT calculations confirm metallicity, boosted Na + diffusion, and pseudocapacitive dominated conversion mechanism. The assembled high-performance full cells demonstrate the possibility of rational heterostructure design for practical ultra-fast sodium-ion storage. Electrocatalytic nitrate (NO3‒) reduction reaction (eNO3RR) is a promising route for ammonia (NH3) synthesis to alternate Haber-Bosch process. It is important to design catalysts with high efficiency and strong selectivity for the preparation of NH3 via the eNO3RR. Herein, a ZIF-derived nitrogen-doped carbon/cobalt sulfide electrocatalyst, CoS@CN, with a hollow cage structure synthesized by vulcanization etching, is presented as a high-efficiency electrocatalyst for eNO3RR. CoS@CN shows outstanding selectivity and stability with a large NH3 yield of 4.74 mg h-1 mcat-1 at -0.75 V vs. RHE and a high Faradaic efficiency of 97.88% at -0.35 V vs. RHE in 0.1 M NaOH with 200 ppm NO3‒. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that CoS@CN has a narrower bond gap (0.16 eV) and lower barrier potential determining step (0.71 eV). The S atoms function as bridges connecting the charge repository C atoms to the active site Co atoms, as is more favorable for NH3 synthesis through the eNO3RR. It was demonstrated both experimentally and theoretically that the S element plays an important role. The introduction of the S element could not only modulate the electronic structure of the catalysts, but also modulate the morphology of the catalysts to a hollow cage structure, as facilitates the proceeding of eNO3RR. This work offers a promising strategy for designing high-performance eNO3RR catalysts for electrocatalytic NH3 synthesis and the waste water treatment.

In this work, core-shell material with a special structure was designed and applied in solid-phase extraction (SPE) for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) combined with high-performance liquid chromatography. Based on the advantages of core-shell ZIF-8@ZIF-67 (Zeolite imidazole ester framework materials [ZIFs]), effective derivatization treatment was carried out to partially vulcanize the original ZIFs, resulting in a special and new double-core-shell structural material CoS/ZIF-67/ZnS/ZIF-8 (ZIFs@ZnS@CoS) with porous surface and center hollow. The multiple forces caused by the rich chemical structure, the large specific surface area caused by the special pore structure, and the effective protection of the ZIFs core by sulfide shell make the designed material have higher extraction efficiency and longer service life, compared with ZIF-8@ZIF-67 and ZIF-8. At the same time, the established analytical method for non-steroidal drugs had a high recovery rate (98.93%–102.10%), low detection limit (0.11–0.27 µg/L), and wide linear range (1–200 µg/L) within a good correlation coefficient R 2 (0.9978–0.9993). Satisfactory results were also obtained from the extraction of NSAIDs from the Yellow River water samples. These results indicate that the designed double-core-shell structure material can effectively exert its structural advantages and become a promising extraction material.

The removal of carbonyl sulfide (COS) relies on the coordinated interplay of absorption, hydrolysis, and regeneration. In this work, the COS absorption–desorption–hydrolysis behaviors of eleven secondary amines were systematically evaluated under identical operating conditions, and the quantitative contributions of electronic, steric, and solvent effects were elucidated using molecular descriptors and multivariate statistical analysis. Most secondary amines exhibited high initial absorption capacities but showed pronounced differences in desorption and hydrolysis performance. Among them, Diethanolamine (DEA2) and Diisopropanolamine (DIPA2) displayed the most balanced overall behavior, with absorption capacities of 0.7–0.8 g/L, hydrolysis rates of approximately 30%, and desorption efficiencies of 50–70%. Cycling experiments further confirmed their superior long-term stability, evidenced by the lowest sulfur accumulation and amine recoveries exceeding 90%. Molecular interaction analysis indicated that COS interacts with secondary amines predominantly through hydrogen bonds in the initial contact process. Structure–performance correlations identified a characteristic molecular parameter set associated with optimal integrated performance, including Electrostatic Potential (ESP min ) of −1.76 eV, Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) energy of −30 kJ/mol, a Mean Steric Hindrance Index (SHI) of 140 kJ/mol, and a pKa of 9.0, underscoring the essential synergistic contributions of electronic properties, steric environment, and basicity. Multivariate regression models (R 2 = 0.66–0.88) further revealed that electronic effects govern the binding strength underlying absorption–desorption, steric effects primarily regulate hydrolysis kinetics, and solvent effects determine regeneration by modulating solubility and activity coefficients. This study establishes a structure–property–function framework for secondary-amine absorbents and proposes a synergistic molecular design strategy for next generation regenerable absorbents.

Textiles with efficient moisture management provide a comfortable microenvironment for human body. However, little attention has been paid to sweat-induced bacterial growth alongside. In this study, chitooligosaccharide (COS) was used to modify lysozyme (Lyz-COS) to obtain more excellent antibacterial activity . Lyz-COS could undergo an amyloid-like aggregation by reducing its disulfide bond and hydrogen bond triggered by thiourea dioxide (TD). The Phase-Transited Lyz-COS (PTL-COS) coating increases the hydrophilicity and antibacterial properties of wool fabrics, which can withstand 50 washing cycles and 100 rubbing cycles. In addition, two methods are proposed to customize Janus wool fabrics as desired. Method 1: The PTL-COS film was prepared first, and then the film was transferred to one side of the wool fabric. Method 2: Simply spray the PTL-COS solution on one side of the wool fabric. These two processes are simple to operate and can be customized on demand, enabling single transport of sweat and inhibiting sweat-induced bacterial growth. This work underlines the significance of chitooligosaccharide-modified PTL coatings for functionalization of textile surfaces and provides new insights into the development of more adaptable and smarter textiles and clothing.

Synergistically integrating amorphous electrocatalysts with crystalline phases not only endows the system with highly exposed active sites but also exhibits superior electron transport to the active sites, which can effectively improve the catalytic activity toward oxygen evolution reactions (OER). Here, we report that amorphous CoS nanosheets were vertically grown on crystalline Co 3 B 2 thin films (Co 3 B 2 -TF) to form a CoS/Co 3 B 2 heterostructure for alkaline OER. It exhibits a low overpotential of 296 mV at 10 mA cm -2 and a satisfactory stability over 24 hours at high current density 100 mA cm -2 , surpassing the commercial RuO 2 catalyst. The DFT calculations indicate that the unique amorphous/crystalline heterophase coupling in CoS/Co 3 B 2 results in electron transfer between the CoS and Co 3 B 2 , exposing more active sites and facilitating interfacial electron transfer, altering d -band center value, thereby improving the intrinsic OER activity. This work provides a new strategy for designing and development of heterostructured transition-metal borides as highly active, durable, and low-cost catalysts for OER.

Transition-metal sulfides doped with various elements show great promise as highly effective catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), potentially serving as alternatives to Pt-based electrocatalysts . Defect engineering has been identified as a key strategy to enhance the HER activity of such catalysts. This study proposes an effective strategy to generate numerous topological/geometric defects on hollow spherical Mn-doped cobalt sulfide (MnS–CoS) via plasma etching . MnS–CoS catalysts with well-defined cavity structures were successfully prepared using a combination of template-assisted and hydrothermal synthesis methods. Under plasma induction, these catalysts exhibited uniformly formed nanocavity structures with a built-in electric field, which uniformly enhanced their topological/geometric defect levels. The plasma-etched MnS–CoS catalyst demonstrated significantly enhanced HER activity, exhibiting an excellent overpotential of 172 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm⁻ 2 in alkaline media and a low Tafel slope of 120 mV·dec⁻¹. These improvements can be attributed to the remarkable conductivity of Co and Mn, along with the unique hollow spherical nanostructure of the material, which contained numerous gaps that promoted electron movement and electrolyte penetration, thereby enhancing the overall catalytic performance. The synergistic effects of heteroatom doping and plasma modulation played a crucial role in achieving outstanding catalytic performance toward the HER. Density-functional theory calculations based on a structural model of MnS–CoS-p confirmed that the introduction of defects and heteroatoms reduced hydrogen adsorption: the Gibbs free energy decreased from 0.72 eV for CoS to 0.23 eV for MnS–CoS-p. The excellent HER activity of the MnS–CoS materials stemmed from the abundance of reactive heterostructured interfaces, which optimized the electronic configuration and, thus, accelerated H 2 O adsorption and dissociation. This study highlights the potential of combining plasma-assisted defect manipulation and transition-metal-element doping to design high-performance catalysts. The findings also offer valuable insights into the development of environment-friendly energy-conversion technologies.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs), with their high theoretical energy density and specific capacity, are considered optimal candidates for next-generation energy storage systems. However, significant challenges remain in their cycle life and efficiency for practical applications, primarily due to the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and the poor electrical conductivity of sulfur materials. The key to addressing these challenges lies in designing materials with excellent dispersion, good electrical conductivity, and high catalytic activity. In this work, we have designed and successfully synthesized a unique structural material consisting of in-situ grown cobalt sulfide nanoparticles embedded in zeolite imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), which are derived from N -doped carbon wrapped around polypyrrole-derived N -doped carbon nanotubes (CoS@NC/NCNT). This design effectively mitigates the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and enhances the conductivity of the material. As a result, batteries with CoS@NC/NCNT-modified separators achieved a high specific discharge capacity of 1518 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C. This work provides a reliable design strategy for synthesizing N -doped carbon nanotube/high-activity transition metal sulfide composite materials and opens new avenues for enhancing the modification and separation of high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs).

Blast furnace gas as a vital secondary energy in iron and steel industry, necessitates efficient removal of carbonyl sulfide (COS) to realize clean high-value utilization. However, conventional Al 2 O 3 catalysts suffer from low hydrolytic activity and poor sulfur resistance, limiting their industrial application. This work systematically elucidates the mechanisms of K coordination and hierarchical pore on COS hydrolysis. EXAFS and DFT reveal that appropriate K doping induces highly dispersed K species with four-coordinated K species featuring K-O-Al bonds, which increase the electron cloud density of O atom in surface hydroxyl groups (-OH) and significantly enhance the COS conversion by over 50%. For hierarchical pore catalysts, the introduction of expanding agent breaks the dense stacking of alumina particles, exposes more Al atoms and increases [AlO 6 ] coordination content, which synergistically enriches active -OH sites. More importantly, the interconnected hierarchical porous channels accelerate gaseous H 2 S desorption and effectively mitigate surface sulfur deposition, enabling the catalysts to maintain over 90% COS conversion for 8 h. This work provides atomic-level insights into K coordination and hierarchical pore, offering a rational strategy for designing high-efficiency and sulfur-resistant COS hydrolysis catalysts for blast furnace gas purification.

Utilization of carbon disulfide (CS2), a low-cost and sulfur-rich one-carbon (C1) feedstock, for making sulfur-containing polymers is important for both polymer chemistry and applied environmental science. However, the production of well-defined sulfur-containing polymers from CS2 and epoxides remains a key challenge. Here, we report a robust coupling reaction of CS2 and epoxides for chemoselectively producing poly(thioether)s and carbonyl sulfide (COS) in one pot. The resultant polymer has exclusive thioether units and a thiol (−SH) terminal. This route takes advantage of oxygen/sulfur exchanges through two consecutive reactions, i.e., cycloaddition of CS2 to epoxides and dethiocarboxylative ring-opening polymerization of the generated cyclic dithiocarbonates. The process can be conducted in ambient air with several commercially available organic bases as catalysts (initiators) and extended to a variety of epoxides, yielding COS and diverse poly(thioether)s with tens of grams. This work furnishes an original and practical strategy for utilizing CS2 as a sulfur feedstock in polymer synthesis.

Ethylene production by CO 2 reduction is sluggish because the repulsive dipole-dipole interaction and 12 proton-coupled electron-transfer steps consecutively. Amorphous structured photocatalysts possess few grain boundaries and abundant unsaturated sites, accelerating the reaction efficiency from the angle of dynamics and thermodynamics, which still not yet be used in PCR to C 2 products currently. Herein, an amorphous Cu x CoS y composed of the minority crystalline CuCo 2 S 4 is fabricated to realize an excellent C 2 H 4 selectivity in terms of R electron (94.9%). Unsaturated Co and S play the key roles in the improved efficiency of C 2 H 4 generation. C-C coupling is achieved via shortening Co-S bonds distance, and *CO-*CO coupling barrier is decreased by more electrons accumulated on unsaturated S. Water is adsorbed on Co adjacent to S and provide protons for *COCO to form *CH 2 = C. This work paves a new way for broadening the efficient of C 2 H 4 photocatalytic evolution using amorphous photocatalyst.

The presence of sulfur-containing impurities in natural gas not only diminishes its utilization value, but also results in the emission of sulfur-containing pollutants. In this study, a Cu-Ce bimetallic-loaded MCM-41 catalyst was prepared by ammonia evaporation method for the catalytic hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide (COS). The desulfurization efficiency of Cu 25 Ce 5 /MCM-41 can reach a 100 % COS removal rate and maintain for 3.5 h. CuO furnishes the predominant weakly acidic and weakly basic sites for the desulfurization process, which are conducive to the adsorption of COS. Meanwhile, CeOx provides a greater abundance of moderately basic sites for the desulfurization process, which help to improve the removal efficiency of COS. The incorporation of Ce into the catalyst enhances the resistance to sulfur poisoning of Cu and prolongs the lifespan of the catalyst. The incorporation of Ce is capable of transforming the strongly basic sites on the surface of Cu 25 /MCM-41 into moderately basic sites, avoiding excessive oxidation of H 2 S. Additionally, the introduction of Ce offers a degree of protection for CuO, which improves the ability of the catalyst to resist sulfur poisoning. The combined effect of Cu and Ce was found to be instrumental in enhancing the adsorption of COS and in slowing down the oxidation of H 2 S. The reduction of Cu 2+ and Ce 3+ indicated their direct participation in the oxidation of H 2 S. Firstly, COS adsorbed on the catalyst surface is converted into H 2 S and CO 2 through a catalytic hydrolysis reaction. Subsequently, H 2 S adsorbed on the catalyst surface undergoes partial oxidation to sulfide, and partial further oxidation by oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface to S, SO 3 2- , and SO 4 2- , which results in the toxic deactivation of the catalyst.
