Effects of Te6+ substitution on the sintering behavior, phase composition, Raman characteristics, and microwave dielectric properties of CoMoO4 ceramics

Chen Yuan-Bin,Tang Ruxuan

With the robust advancement of fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication and the steady progression of sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication toward practical implementation, the communication sector has imposed unprecedented requirements on microwave dielectric ceramics, particularly concerning their crucial performance parameters, including a suitable dielectric constant, ultra-low dielectric loss, and a near-zero temperature coefficient of resonant frequency. CoMo 1- x Te x O 4 ( x  = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07) ceramics were successfully synthesized via the conventional solid-state reaction method. The mixed powders underwent pre-calcination at 500 °C, and the samples were subsequently sintered for 4 h within the temperature range of 550 °C to 650 °C. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and Rietveld refinement reveal that when x  ≤ 0.03, the obtained samples are monoclinic ceramic crystals belonging to the C 2/ m space group. When the Te 6+ content x  ≥ 0.05, a monoclinic crystal structure with the P 2/ c space group emerges. Moreover, at x  = 0.07, the quality factor of the sintered ceramic samples reaches its maximum value at 600 °C. According to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, the relative density has a significant impact on the dielectric constant and quality factor of the ceramics. Raman spectroscopy was utilized to probe the internal lattice vibration modes. The results demonstrate that the dielectric constant ( εᵣ ) of the ceramics exhibits a close correlation with the Raman spectral shifts, while the quality factor ( Q  ×  f ) is strongly associated with the full—width at half-maximum (FWHM) of the Raman peaks. At 600 °C, the CoMo 1- x Te x O 4 ceramics exhibit excellent dielectric properties: a dielectric constant ε r  = 9.13 (± 0.06), a quality factor Q  ×  f  = 84,224 (± 2301) GHz, and a temperature coefficient of resonant frequency τ f  = -72.8 (± 1.3) ppm/°C. The ionic polarizability and relative density are the primary determinants of ε r . The Q  ×  f is influenced by the packing density and relative density. Based on the P–V–L theory, the Mo–O bonds make a significant contribution to the quality factor ( Q  ×  f ) and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency ( τ f ). Notably, at 600 °C, the ceramics still maintain an appropriate dielectric constant ( ε r ) and high-performance Q  ×  f values. This research holds an indispensable role in the development of ultra-low temperature co—fired ceramics (ULTCC).

Polyphosphazene-derived P/S/N-doping and carbon-coating of yolk-shelled CoMoO4 nanospheres towards enhanced pseudocapacitive lithium storage

Qingmiao Zhang,Tianhao Yao,Yanni Chen,Xunan Jing,Xiaoping Zhao,Daquan Wang,Hongkang Wang,Lingjie Meng

Transition metal oxides as potential   anodes of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) possess high theoretical capacity but suffer from large volume expansion and poor conductivity. To overcome these drawbacks, we designed and fabricated polyphosphazene-coated yolk-shelled CoMoO 4 nanospheres , in which polyphosphazene with abundant C/P/S/N species was readily converted into carbon shells and provided P/S/N dopants. This resulted in the formation of P/S/N co-doped carbon-coated yolk-shelled CoMoO 4 nanospheres (PSN-C@CoMoO 4 ). The PSN-C@CoMoO 4 electrode exhibits superior cycle stability of 439.2 mA h g −1   at 1000 mA g −1   after 500 cycles and rate capability of 470.1 mA h g −1   at 2000 mA g −1 . The electrochemical and structural analyses reveal that PSN-C@CoMoO 4 with yolk-shell structure, coated with carbon and doped with heteroatom not only greatly enhances the charge transfer rate and reaction kinetics, but also efficiently buffers the volume variation upon lithiation/delithiation cycling. Importantly, the use of polyphosphazene as coating/doping agent can be a general strategy for developing advanced electrode materials.

Vertically aligned Fe2TiO5 nanorods and coupling of NiMoO4/CoMoO4 as a hole-transfer cocatalyst for enhancing photoelectrochemical water oxidation performance

Baohua Ding,Haiyan Li,Ruonan Wang,Bohua Dong,Lixin Cao

Fe2TiO5, a promising photoanode material for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, is limited by its poor conductivity and short carrier diffusion length. Herein, a novel Fe2TiO5 nanorod photoanode coated with a cocatalyst NiMoO4/CoMoO4 has been designed for efficient PEC water splitting. The Fe2TiO5/NiMoO4/CoMoO4 photoanode shows a photocurrent density of 1.67 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) under an irradiation of 100 mW cm−2, which is 2.25 times that of Fe2TiO5 nanorods (0.74 mA cm−2) at 1.23 V versus RHE. And the onset potential of Fe2TiO5/NiMoO4/CoMoO4 illustrates a 247 mV cathodic shift from that of the Fe2TiO5 nanorod photoanode. Moreover, Fe2TiO5/NiMoO4/CoMoO4 exhibits excellent stability at 1.23 V versus RHE under 2 h illumination. Further investigation indicates that NiMoO4/CoMoO4 modifies the surface states of Fe2TiO5 nanorods and effectively promotes the reaction kinetics at the semiconductor/electrolyte interface. This work emphasizes that the design of a nanorod structure and the loading of a cocatalyst provide a novel strategy for achieving excellent PEC performance.

Highly efficient hydrogen evolution of Ni3S2-MoS2@CoMoO4/NF from in situ reaction of metal-organic framework in alkaline media

Yong Liu,Yekai Zhang,Mengbi Zhang,Hong Zhong,Zhanfang Cao,Liqing Li

Background Hydrogen energy, as the most promising renewable resource in the future, is severely limited in its development due to electrocatalysts, so the preparation of highly efficient and low-cost non-precious-metal catalysts is crucial for large-scale hydrogen production via electrolysis of water. Methods Herein, Ni 3 S 2− MoS 2 @CoMoO 4 /NF was successfully synthesized for the first time by in situ ion-exchange reaction and sulfidation reaction using Co-MOF/NF as a template. Significant Findings The electrochemical tests revealed that the overpotential was only 62.4 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , which was similar to that of the noble metal Pt sheet electrode, the long-term durability of the catalysts was more than 24 h at a constant potential, which demonstrated that the catalysts possessed excellent HER performance in alkaline media. In addition, XPS, SEM, XRD, and Raman characterization also demonstrated the successful growth and loading of Ni 3 S 2 , MoS 2 , and CoMoO 4 . In this study, transition metal sulfides and transition metal sulfide complexes with good electrochemical properties were prepared using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as precursors, providing a new idea for the preparation of HER catalysts with high activity in alkaline media.

The synergistic benefits of hydrate CoMoO4 and carbon nanotubes culminate in the creation of highly efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution

Chen Chen,Xin Xin,Ting Cheng,Fei Wu,Mingyue Wen,Xiao Zhang,Baoxuan Hou,Jiarui Zhu

The electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) stands as a burgeoning clean energy prospect. This work synthesized composite materials (CMOxCNT), exhibiting exceptional electrocatalytic prowess, emerged from the fusion of cobalt molybdate (CMO) and carbon nanotubes (CNT). The outcomes of characterization established the CMO as a hydrated cobalt molybdate mineral, the theoretical molecular formula CoMoO 4 ·nH 2 O. The CMO particles demonstrated a distinctive rod-shaped morphology. Notably, under the optimal mass ratio (CMO/CNT=7/3), carbon nanotubes exhibited partial coverage of the CMO particle surface. Electrochemical hydrogen evolution experiments decisively illuminated the catalytic potency of the CMO-CNT composites, which effectively improved the HER efficiency. The CMO3CNT, distinguished by elevated electrochemically active surface area, yielded a lower HER overpotential of 171.5 mV (at 10 mA·cm −2 ) and Tafel slope of 69.9 mV dec −1 . Importantly, the material demonstrated commendable catalytic stability across a 30-hour span of i-t tests and 3000 CV cycles. Density Functional Theory (DFT) analyses unveiled at the adept electron transfer capabilities in CNT and favorable catalytic ability exhibited in CMO contributed substantively to the composite's overall efficacy. The remarkable catalytic proficiency of CMO stemmed from the synergistic interplay between cobalt and molybdenum atoms. The amalgamation of both inherent advantages engendered the composite's pronounced electrocatalytic performance.

“Blooming on rods” design 3D heterostructure toward boost electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction

Yang Wang,Zhen Cao,Huai Lan,Bo Li,Qingmei Chen

Developing boosting as well as stable catalysts toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for environmentally friendly hydrogen evolution via water decomposition. Herein, we report 3D CoMoO 4 /Ni 3 S 2 heterostructure constructed by sequential hydrothermal strategy to synergistically enhance OER capability and kinetics. In 1 M KOH, the CoMoNiS@NF exhibits efficient alkaline OER capability with ultralow overpotentials of 152 mV to achieve 100 mA cm −2 , surpassing CoMo@NF (384 mV), commercial RuO 2 @NF (500 mV), and NF (590 mV), with a Tafel slope of 46.5 mV dec −1 . In addition, it also demonstrates efficient OER capability with overpotentials of 445 mV and 1.3 V to achieve 100 and 20 mA cm −2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 and 0.01 M PBS, respectively. From DFT calculations, it is noticed that this heterojunction accelerates charge transfer by forming a Schottky barrier through the close interface coupling between CoMoO 4 nanorods and Ni 3 S 2 nanosheets, thereby enhancing performance. Besides, regardless of the medium, the LSV curves do not change significantly after 300 CV cycles, further indicating the stable existence of the heterostructure interface during the catalytic process. This work provides a robust strategy for engineering heterostructured OER catalysts via interfacial electronic control.

Coupling the effect of Co and Mo on peroxymonosulfate activation for the removal of organic pollutants

Zhao Huanxin,Chen Wenkai,Wu Dan,Liu Xinyue,Hu Wanjie,Zhang Xuejun

Although heterogeneous cobalt-based catalysts have been widely studied and used in SO 4 •− based advanced oxidation processes, the efficiencies were still not high enough due to the limiting step of Co(III)/Co(II) cycle in the system. In this study, a bimetallic oxide composed of Co and Mo was designed and used for enhancing the performance of peroxymonosulfate activation on organic pollutants removal. The CoMoO 4 nanorods exhibited superior catalytic activity for methylene blue (MB) degradation than Co 3 O 4 , MoO 3 , and their mechanical mixture, which was attributed to the synergetic effect between Co and Mo. CoMoO 4 nanorods were able to efficiently degrade MB under a wide pH range of 3–11 and could maintain high efficiency in 5 cycles with less leakage of metal ions. Moreover, CoMoO 4 nanorods displayed broad spectrum applicability to the different water matrix and a variety of pollutants such as phenol and Congo red. The Co(II) was proved to be the main active site of the catalyst, while Mo played an important role in promoting the Co(III)/Co(II) cycle. Surface free radicals are the main active species in the degradation process. This work provides new insights into the design of cobalt-based bimetallic catalyst and the improvement on PMS activation.

Oxygen vacancies induced strong metal-support interaction of Ru@CoMoO4-Ov for significantly enhanced oxygen evolution reaction performance in alkaline seawater electrolyte

Chaojie Lyu,Jiarun Cheng,Chunyang Guan,Xueyan Li,Yongmao Zhao,Xudong Zhao,Yiming Liu

Cobalt molybdate (CoMoO4) is a potential material for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to its stable crystal structure, strong redox capability, and abundant reserves. However, its poor electrical conductivity and high overpotential have limited its practical applications. In this study, the Ru@CoMoO4-Ov/NF composite was prepared by loading Ru nanoparticles onto CoMoO4 nanosheets and introducing oxygen vacancies (Ov). The interaction between Ru and CoMoO4 promotes electron transfer from Ru to Co, and this process is further enhanced by oxygen vacancies, leading to the formation of high-valence Run+. The high-valence Run+ strengthens the adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates, thereby facilitating O-H bond cleavage, reducing the energy barrier for H2O decomposition, and improving OER performance. In 1 M KOH electrolyte, the catalyst exhibits an overpotential of only 249 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2, with a Tafel slope of 74.8 mV dec-1. When assembled into a two-electrode water-splitting system with FeP@CoP/NF, a current density of 10 mA cm-2 is achieved at a voltage of merely 1.54 V. Moreover, the catalyst maintains excellent catalytic stability even in a complex alkaline seawater electrolyte. This study provides important insights into the modification mechanism of CoMoO4-based catalysts.

Developing a facile method to construct 3D hierarchical CoMoO4@C@MnO2 core-shell structure aligned on Ni foam with enhanced pseudocapacitive performances

Xiao Cui,Xinli Chen,Wenjie Zhang,Xiaoqing Yan,Ming Wang,Jiancong Lian,Zhuan Zheng,Hong Deng

Metal oxides with hierachical three-dimensional (3D) superstructure , which integrate large surface area with high electrical conductivity , have been regarded as desirable and ideal electrode materials for supercapacitors . In this work, 3D hierarchical CoMoO 4 @C@MnO 2 core-shell nanorod arrays (NRAs) on nickel foam were fabricated by a facile and stepwise hydrothermal approach. The morphologies of CoMoO 4 and CoMoO 4 @C@MnO 2 were explicitly investigated. The CoMoO4@C@MnO2 based electrodes exhibited excellent capacitive performances. In comparison to the specific capacitance of CoMoO 4 (1080 F g −1 at a current density of 3 A g −1 and 82% retained capacitance over 5000 cycles) The CoMoO 4 @C@MnO 2 based electrodes showed improved performance, delivering specific capacitance up to 1824 F g −1 at 3 A g −1 and 86% retained capacitance over 5000 cycles. The results establish that the binder-free CoMoO 4 @C@MnO 2 is a promising candidate for high performance electrochemical supercapacitors.

Three-dimensional blocky sponge based CoMoO4 catalyst activates peroxymonosulfate to degrade sulfadimethoxine: A remedy for ready-made catalysts to achieve convenient and continuous operation

Junpeng Zhou,Shisi Deng,Li Liu,Yeqing Lan,Cheng Chen

The agglomeration-deactivation of ready-made or commercial catalysts and their difficulties in operation and separation make them unaffordable for the convenient and continuous employ in catalytic systems, which greatly limit their application in practical fields. To overcome the bottlenecks, in this study, the ready-made CoMoO 4 catalyst was anchored on the skeleton surface of the chitosan coated melamine sponge (CMS) to fabricate the three-dimensional (3D) blocky CoMoO 4 @CMS composite, which exhibited excellent catalysis and reusability in the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the abatement of sulfadimethoxine (SDM) in water. Over 98 % of SDM (30 mg/L) was degraded in the CoMoO 4 @CMS/PMS system within 10 min, and the acceptable recyclability of CoMoO 4 @CMS was achieved in the continuous five rounds. In addition, the CoMoO 4 @CMS/PMS system possessed the strong anti-interference ability, which could realize the efficient elimination of SDM in the actual lake water matrix. Various characterization technologies and experimental designs were performed to reveal the relationships between the physicochemical properties and catalytic performance of CoMoO 4 @CMS. SO 4 •− and 1 O 2 was confirmed to be responsible for the SDM degradation. Based on the intermediates identification of the SDM degradation, the possible degradation paths were inferred. This study may provide a new strategy to fabricate the 3D blocky catalysts with excellent catalytic activity and convenient separation efficiency and to promote the practical application of PMS activation in wastewater treatment.

Hydrazine-driven cation valence regulation and oxygen defect engineering in sulfur-doped CoMoO4·0.9H2O for highly efficient reduction of toxic organics and hexavalent chromium under dark

Pengkun Zhang,Qinhan Wu,Haoyu Wang,Yunzhuo Xu,Yujie Lai,Ping Li,Dong-Hau Kuo,Ting Huang,Hanya Zhang,Mengistu Tadesse Mosisa,Jiqing Li,Jinguo Lin,Xiaoyun Chen,Dongfang Lu

CoMoO 4 ·0.9H 2 O-based S–CoMoO bimetallic oxysulfide catalyst performed high catalytic activity after being synthesized by a facile method. Hydrazine used in synthesis drives the reduction of Mo 6+ cations to Mo 4+ , while sulfur ion is introduced to balance the valence-charge deviations from electrical neutrality induced by high Mo 4+ concentrations. Moreover, sulfur doping induces lattice strain to facilitate the creation of oxygen vacancies (Vo). Vo acts as an electron accommodation site and reaction active site for pollutant adsorption by promoting electron transfer and reacting with adsorbed pollutants. Additionally, electron hopping between Mo 6+ and Mo 4+ effectively facilitates the reaction rate. The S–CoMoO-3 with a suitable Mo 4+ /(Mo 6+ +Mo 4+ ) ratio of 0.46 exhibited remarkable performance, achieving a complete reduction of 100 ml 20 ppm 4-NP and 100 ml 50 ppm solutions of RhB and MO in 4 min, and 100 ml 20 ppm MB fully reducte it within 2 min. The Cr 6+ reduction was achieved in 8 min with a kinetic rate constant of 28.33 min −1 ·g −1 for a pseudo-first-order reaction. After six rounds of repeated experiments, the catalyst still achieved a 98.67% reduction of Cr 6+ within 8 min, demonstrating its excellent stability and durability and making it a promising candidate for reducing pollution in various industrial processes.
