Metal selenides as anode materials of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has received considerable attention recently. In order to boost the electronic conductivity and alleviate the volume change of electrode materials upon the cycles, a facile strategy is employed in this work, where Prussian blue analogue (PBA) nanocubes are encapsulated into three-dimensional (3D) network of graphene aerogel (GA), followed by a high-temperature selenization treatment to isolate the composite of FeCoSe 2 @GA. The composite can be directly employed as free-standing anode materials of LIBs. Studies reveal that the FeCoSe 2 @GA electrode demonstrates an intriguing cycle stability and rate capability with a specific capacity of ∼500 mAh g −1 at 100 mA g −1 after 100 cycles. The outstanding lithium-storage properties can be attributed to the 3D porous feature as well as the strong confinement effect of GA for FeCoSe 2 particles, which provides a large number of ion-exchange channels, and prevents the severe agglomeration and large volume expansion of active particles during the charge/discharge process.

The sluggish anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics remains a critical bottleneck for sustainable hydrogen production via water electrolysis. Guided by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, we engineered Fe-CoS 2 /Ni 3 S 4 dual-site catalysts where Co 3+ and Fe 3+ centers synergistically optimize p-d orbital hybridization to enhance OER kinetics. Operando analyses reveal Co 3+ as primary active sites facilitating rate-limiting OOH* → O 2 desorption with Gibbs free energy (ΔG) reduced by 0.94 eV, while Fe-induced electron delocalization lowers intermediate coupling barriers. Notably, the catalyst facilitates dynamic reconstruction, generating metastable Co 3+ species with optimized eg orbital occupancy (t 2 g 5 eg 1 configuration) and strengthened p-d hybridization via Fe-mediated charge transfer. This electronic synergy enables ultralow overpotentials of 156 mV (hydrogen evolution reaction HER) and 230 mV (OER) at 50 mA cm −2 , with a cell voltage of 1.48 V for overall water splitting at 10 mA cm −2 . The dual-site architecture simultaneously suppresses metal dissolution (<12 % after 20 h) while maintaining 89.2 % initial activity. This work establishes a dual-regulation strategy: atomic-level orbital engineering for OER intermediate optimization and dynamic surface reconstruction for HER-active phase stabilization, offering a paradigm for designing robust bifunctional electrocatalysts.

Metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon nanocomposites have been widely applied in electrocatalytic fields due to their simple synthesis, excellent conductivity, and high catalytic activity. In this study, ZIF-67 and MIL-101(Fe) were synthesized via liquid-phase precipitation and solvent thermal methods, respectively. Then, the two kinds of MOFs were ground and calcined with melamine to prepare flower-like carbon nanocomposites. Under the optimal conditions, the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) onset potential (E onset = 1.019 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) and half-wave potential (E 1/2 = 0.866 V) of this prepared composite are both higher than those of commercial Pt/C catalyst (E onset = 0.971 V, E 1/2 = 0.838 V). The prepared nanocomposite exhibits a lower oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotential (η = 338 mV at 10 mA cm −2 ) than RuO 2 (η = 372 mV), demonstrating superior catalytic performance. The prepared nanocomposite achieves simultaneous enhancement in both ORR and OER bifunctional catalytic performances. The power density of a zinc-air battery (ZAB) assembled with the optimal nanocomposite was 2.65 times higher than that of the Pt/C + RuO 2 system. This study establishes a fundamental framework for the rational design of high-performance ORR/OER bifunctional catalysts, while pioneering new avenues for ZAB technology commercialization.

Microbial-driven Fenton reactions are essential sources of reactive oxygen species in the aqueous environment and important pathways for pollutant degradation. However, their rates are usually limited by microbial respiration. Herein, N and Fe co-doped CDs (N, Fe-CDs) were used to construct a biological Fenton system with marine community YEP-1 for ketoprofen (KTP) removal. The addition of N, Fe-CDs significantly increased the aerobic degradation rate of KTP by 60.8 % at 48 h. Further analysis showed that N, Fe-CDs enhanced the microbial electron transfer system activity of YEP-1 to produce more H 2 O 2 . Moreover, the regeneration of Fe(II) in extracellular N, Fe-CDs was achieved under aerobic conditions, which was beneficial to activate the extracellular H 2 O 2 for more ·OH generation. Based on the metagenome analysis, N, Fe-CDs significantly increased the populations of genera Exiguobacterium , Leucobacter and Microbacterium . The enriched genes related to electron transfer and Fe(III) reduction were found to be closely associated with Microbacterium . Furthermore, the relative abundances of genes related to the chemotaxis and degradation of aromatic compounds were also increased. These results indicated that biological enzyme-catalyzed processes and N, Fe-CD-mediated Fenton reaction were jointly involved in KTP degradation. This work further advances our understanding of N, Fe-CDs-mediated microbial Fenton reactions.

It's a major challenge to explore highly active and stable electrocatalysts for efficient hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER). In this work, we report a new hybrid electrocatalyst: iron-cobalt decorated nitrogen doped carbon/reduced graphene oxide-700 °C (Fe-Co-CN/rGO-700). The catalyst shows an excellent electrocatalytic performance toward HER and OER in alkaline solution, which has lower overpotentials of 0.215 V and 0.308 V at the current density 10 mA cm −2 , respectively, and this catalyst has an outstanding durability (after 45 h). The excellent activity mainly benefit from the highly dispersed iron/cobalt species, sheet structure with high porosity, the improvement of electronic structures with nitrogen-doped carbon and high conductivity of rGO. Combined with the density function theory (DFT) calculations, the improvement of the HER and OER performance were also attributed to the balance of adsorption/desorption of the hydrogen and oxygen-containing intermediates, and the increased electronic states density near the Fermi level. The proposed work provides a novel and simple strategy to synthesize a porous carbon electrocatalyst material using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as precursor with high activity and strong stability for HER and OER.

Based on two topologically distinct MOFs, the core–shell bimetallic MIL-101/ZIF-67 x (M/Z x ) were successfully prepared to activate the self-decomposition of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for 2-chlorophenol (2-cp) degradation. The M/Z x not only inherited the merits of single-metal MOFs such as high surface area and pore volume, but also exhibited superior catalytic performance. In the M/Z x /PMS system, 90% of the 2-cp (100 mg/L) was removed within 10 min with a reaction rate of 0.241 min −1 . This observation was attributed to the synergistic catalysis of cobalt and iron active sites in M/Z x , which greatly promoted the Co 2+ /Co 3+ redox cycle, thereby enhancing the catalytic performance. Further investigation found that both radical and non-radical pathway jointly promote the degradation of 2-cp, and the singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) mediated non-radical pathway serve a predominant role. Meanwhile, SO 4 ·- and · OH also accelerated this process. The possible degradation pathway was proposed by identifying the intermediates of 2-cp degradation. This work provides some new ideas for the design of multi-metal MOFs for environmental remediation.

Selectively reducing nitroaromatics into aromatic amines will not only remove nitroaromatic pollutants in waste effluents to reduce environmental risks, but also yield important feedstocks for chemical industrial manufactures. In this study, a FeCo-co-embedded N-doped Carbon (FeCo-N-C) catalyst with Fe-Co atomic pair has been identified with favorable activity, superior selectivity , excellent reusability, as well as outstanding performance in the treatment of real water. The combined results from theoretical study and experimental tests indicate that the improved catalytic performance of FeCo-N-C is owing to the narrowed band gap and electron delocalization caused by the Fe-Co atomic pair which can improve electron transport in its catalytic reaction. The results of isotope experiments and H* quenching experiments confirm that H 2 O is the source of hydrogen in catalytic reduction of PNP. FeCo-N-C is identified as a superior catalyst to replace multitudinous currently used noble-metal catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of nitroaromatics in wastewater treatment .

Single-atom catalysts are highly efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting with exceptional atomic utilization, but atomic aggregation can impair their catalytic performance. To address this challenge, a Fe-Co-Ni single-atom bifunctional catalyst supported on nitrogen-doped graphene oxide was designed and employed for overall water splitting in alkaline electrolyte. The catalyst’s composition, structure, and morphology were systematically characterized using XRD, XPS, SEM, and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM). Electrochemical evaluations were performed to assess its activity and stability toward both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The results demonstrate that strong metal-nonmetal interactions between the Fe, Co and Ni single atoms and the nitrogen-doped graphene oxide support facilitate stable and uniform anchoring of the metal centers on the wrinkled carbon framework. The total metal loading reaches approximately 6.78 wt%, ensuring a high density of accessible active sites. Furthermore, synergistic electronic coupling among the Fe, Co, and Ni centers enhances charge transfer kinetics and modulates the D-band electronic states of the metal atoms. This effect weakens the adsorption strength of hydrogen and oxygen-containing intermediates, thus promoting faster reaction kinetics for both HER and OER. Consequently, the FeCoNi/CNG catalyst delivers low overpotentials of 77 mV for HER and 355 mV for OER at a current density of 10 mA cm−2in alkaline conditions. When integrated into an alkaline water electrolyzer, the system achieves a cell voltage of only 1.68 V to attain a current density of 10 mA cm−2, underscoring its outstanding bifunctional catalytic performance.

A Fe, Co, N doping hierarchical carbon composite was prepared using stepwise pyrolysis. The prepared composite exhibited excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity with a half-wave potential (E 1/2 ) of 0.88 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE), which was higher than the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C (E 1/2 = 0.83 V). The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity of the prepared catalysts with the potential at 10 mA cm −2 (E j10 ) of 1.543 V was lower than that of the commercial RuO 2 (E j10 = 1.586 V). The corresponding turnover frequency (TOF) of FeCo@NC-3N-900 was 0.076 O 2 s −1 at E 1/2 (TOF of Pt/C was 0.057 O 2 s −1 at E 1/2 ) in ORR and 0.056 O 2 s −1 at E j10 (TOF of RuO 2 was 0.001 O 2 s −1 at E j10 ) in OER. As a result, the performance of the Zn-air battery assembled with FeCo@NC-3N-900 was better than that of the commercial Pt/C + RuO 2 . At the same time, Co was found that can elevate the ORR activity of the prepared composites by improving the mass diffusion, and FeCo alloy elevate the OER activity by improving the electron transfer. This work provided an efficient method for the preparation of ORR/OER bifunctional catalyst.

The development of novel nanozymes with excellent enzyme simulation ability provides a new perspective for antibacterial and wound healing. However, the enzyme activity of traditional simplex nanozyme is not sufficient, meanwhile the nanozymic catalytic therapy alone cannot fulfill the purpose of effective antibacterial and wound healing. Hence, we develop novel multifunctional nanocomposites composed of FeCo alloys integrate with carbon spheres and carbon nanotubes (FeCo-C/CNT NCs) with hydrophobic property, enhanced oxidase-like (OXD-like) activity and photothermal property. Remarkably, i n vitro experiment shows the the antibacterial rates of 200 μg/mL FeCo-C/CNT NCs against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli ( E. coli) are as high as 83.46 % and 90.98 %, respectively. The mechanism of synergistic antibacterial effect is not only due to the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation from FeCo alloy part of FeCo-C/CNT NCs, but also because the local high temperature generated by the photothermal effects of FeCo-C/CNT NCs under near infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, as well as heat promoted ROS production. The FeCo-C/CNT NCs under NIR laser irradiation present best wound healing via hydrophobic protection, synergistic catalytic and photothermal therapy on S. aureus -infected mice. This work introduces a novel alloy nanozyme with excellent antibacterial property, providing new idea in the field of wound healing.

Catalytic hydrogenation of CO 2 into light olefins has gained increasing attention, nevertheless the design of an efficient catalyst with high selectivity towards light olefins is still challenging. Herein, aiming at improving the selectivity of targeted light olefins, we successfully synthesized a series of Na/MFe 2 O 4 (M = Co, Zn and Cu) spinel catalysts via hydrothermal synthesis, and tried to establish their activity-structure relationship. Among the Na/MFe 2 O 4 spinel catalysts, the Na/CoFe 2 O 4 catalyst shows superior catalytic performance, thanks to the well-crystallized CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticle which has the good dispersibility, reducibility and carburizing ability. Moreover, compared with the traditional Na/Fe–Co catalyst obtained via co-precipitation, the formation of CoFe 2 O 4 with uniform crystal phase and smaller crystal size for Na/CoFe 2 O 4 spinel catalyst is more conducive to the formation of active and stable χ-(Co x Fe 1 − x ) 5 C 2 alloy carbide, thereby resulting in excellent catalytic activity and stability. On this basis, to further improve the C 2-4 = selectivity, we coupled the Na/CoFe 2 O 4 component with acidic zeolites (e.g., SAPO-34, MOR and Hβ), and the Na/CoFe 2 O 4 @SAPO-34 catalyst is found to possess a superior C 2-4 = selectivity of 42 % with a CO 2 conversion of 39 %. This work can provide a useful understanding of designing efficient spinel-structured bimetal catalysts for selective conversion of CO 2 into value-added light olefins.

A Fe/Co-doped zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is synthesized in situ on porous carbonized wood, and high-performance composite electrodes are subsequently prepared through heat treatment. The simultaneous doping of Fe and Co can synergistically modulate the microstructures, nanoporous architectures, and hydrophilic properties of the carbon materials derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), thereby enhancing their specific capacitance and energy density. Furthermore, the superior capacitive performance of Fe/Co-doped MOF-derived carbon on porous carbonized wood (Fe-Co/MC@PCW) is predicted through first-principles density functional theory calculations, which are based on the detailed analysis of band structure and surface adsorption characteristics. The composite electrode demonstrated a specific capacitance of 342 F g −1 (6.84 F cm −2 ) at 5 mA cm −2 . Correspondingly, a symmetric supercapacitor fabricated with this electrode achieved a specific capacitance of 141 F g −1 (2.82 F cm −2 ) under identical conditions, yielding an energy density of 19.58 Wh kg −1 and a power density of 125 W kg −1 . Notably, the electrode maintains exceptional capacitance retention, demonstrating only a minor reduction to 96 % after 15,000 cycles, even at 30 mA cm −2 . These results underscore the potential of integrating MOFs with wood-based carbon electrodes for the development of advanced energy storage systems.
