Graphical Fully interacting : A Co 89.8 Ni 10.2 P 11.7 /reduced graphene oxide (rGO) catalyst was successfully synthesized by a simple in situ co-reduction method. The strong electronic interaction between Ni, Co, and P means that this species is an efficient catalyst toward hydrolysis of ammonia borane at room temperature, and exibits remarkable catalytic activity, which is 2.5 times higher than that of NiCo/rGO. Developing highly efficient and stable noble-metal-free catalysts toward catalytic hydrolysis of ammonia borane (AB) for hydrogen storage is highly desirable, but still remains challenging. We report a simple and in situ co-reduction approach to synthesize bimetallic NiCoP nanoparticles (NPs) supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Thanks to the strong electronic interaction between Ni, Co, and P, the as-synthesized Co 89.8 Ni 10.2 P 11.7 /rGO catalyst exhibits superior catalytic performance towards hydrolysis of AB, with the turnover frequency value (TOF) of 18.6 min −1 , which is about 2.5 times higher than that of NiCo/rGO.

Challenges, such as limited active sites and undesirable cyclic stability, still hinder the practical applications of Ni-Co phosphides (NCP) based electrode materials. To solve those issues, Al-induced NCP nanosheets (NCAP) decorated on nickel foam were successfully fabricated and applied as a high-performance binder-free electrode material for alkaline supercapacitors . The transformation of NCAP during the reaction with alkaline electrolyte was also investigated. NCAP has a series of irreversible changes with the enhancement of the capacitive performance during the initial reaction with KOH to the final form of the Al-induced Ni-Co phosphides@layered double hydroxides (NCAP@LDHs) with the stable composite nanostructure . Moreover, the Density Functional Theory analysis results show that Al not only adjusts the density of states and ions migration barrier of the newly formed LDHs but also enhances the synergetic behavior between the LDHs and NCAP overall conductivity of the composites. So, a higher capacity of 1138.7 C/g was achieved in the NCAP@LDHs system compared with 643.5 C/g of NCP. The as-assembled hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) with satisfactory specific energy and specific power could light 160 LEDs and a hygrometer successfully, which suggests the potential to be applied in the energy storage field.

The severe polysulfides shuttling and irregular lithium dendrites impede the widespread adoption of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Here, a sulfiphilic/lithiophilic NiCoP nanofiber arrayed on carbon cloth (NiCoP@CC) as the sulfur/lithium host is reported, providing a dual solution for both cathode and anode issues. Both theoretical calculations and experiments confirm that NiCoP@CC enhances the cycling stability of sulfur cathode and lithium anode by facilitating polysulfides conversion and homogenizing lithium deposition. Additionally, the unique structure of NiCoP nanofiber-decorated carbon cloth provides ample space to accommodate active materials and ensures even distribution of sulfur and lithium. Consequently, Li-S half cells containing NiCoP@CC exhibit an outstanding cycling life of 900 cycles at 1 C. Moreover, the Li@NiCoP@CC electrode achieves a stable, long cycling performance for 3000 h at 1 mA cm −2 . Notably, Li-S full cells show enhanced cycling performance, maintaining stability over 750 cycles with a decay rate of 0.04 % per cycle at 1 C and a low N/P (negative/positive capacity) ratio of 2.4. A high areal capacity of 7.75mAh cm −2 is obtained at a high sulfur loading of 8.6 mg cm −2 . This study presents a new strategy for designing bimetallic phosphides as bifunctional materials to overcome difficulties in practical Li-S batteries.

The simultaneous enhancement of capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability is crucial for developing supercapacitor electrode material. In this work, Mg-doped NiCoP nanoflowers (MNCP) grown on graphene hydrogel (MNCP-GH) are fabricated on a Ni foam substrate (MNCP-GH/NF). The MNCP-GH/NF electrode offers abundant active sites, good conductivity, and structural stability. As a Lewis acid, the Mg ion can modulate the electron distribution around NiCoP, thereby raising the oxidation state of the active metal centers and further increasing the number of redox-active sites. GH with hierarchical pores and a large surface area endows a high MNCP-GH loading of 8.0 mg cm −2 . In addition, the conductive GH skeleton not only acts as a robust and conductive support for immobilizing MNCP nanoflowers but also establishes an interconnected electron transport pathway and facilitates rapid ion diffusion. Consequently, the MNCP-GH/NF electrode achieves excellent areal and mass-specific capacities of 10,560 mC cm −2 and 1320 C g −1 at 2 mA cm −2 . Remarkably, an excellent capacity retention of 73.2% at 100 mA cm −2 exhibits its outstanding rate performance. The assembled solid-state MNCP-GH/NF||polyvinyl alcohol-potassium hydroxide (PVA-KOH)||GH/NF supercapacitor delivers an energy density of 53.7 Wh kg −1 (4.3 mWh cm −3 ) and a power density of 18,749 W kg −1 (1499 mW cm −3 ). Moreover, the assembled device also maintains 85.7% of its original capacitance after 10,000 cycles. It is a promising and versatile strategy for designing bifunctional cathodes toward long-term stability and high energy storage. Graphical

Ternary transition metal phosphides (TTMPs) with two-dimensional heterointerface and adjustable electronic structures have been widely studied in hydrogen evolution reactions (HER). However, single-phase TMPs often have inappropriate H* adsorption energy and electronic transfer efficiency in HER. Herein, we utilized the heterogeneity in the crystal structure to design an efficient and stable catalyst from the NiCoP nanowire@NiCoP nanosheet on nickel foam (NW-NiCoP@NS-NiCoP/NF) for HER. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with a heterogeneous matrix on crystal surfaces were grown under different reaction conditions, and non-metallic P was introduced by anion exchange to adjust the electronic structure of the transition metals. The hierarchical structure of homologous NiCoP/NF from the LDH allows for a larger surface area, which results in more active sites and improved gas diffusion. The optimized NW-NiCoP@NS-NiCoP/NF electrode exhibits excellent HER activity, with an overpotential of 144 mV, a Tafel slope of 84.2 mV dec−1at a current density of 100 mA cm−2and remarkable stability for more than 500 h in 1.0 M KOH electrolyte. This work provides ideas for elucidating the rational design of structural heterogeneity as an efficient electrocatalyst and the in situ construction of hierarchical structures. Keywords:layered double hydroxides;transition metal phosphide;homologous material;hydrogen evolution;hierarchical structure

Developing a cost-effective catalyst for the selective tandem conversion of furfural (FFA) to ethyl levulinate (EL) is important for synthesizing biofuels and fine chemicals from biomass. However, traditional catalysts prefer the hydrogenation-dehydration-hydrolysis pathway and are slow due to high activation energy requirement. Herein, a NiCoP/LaPO 4 catalyst was prepared via calcination of layered double hydroxide (LDH) precursor, followed by hydrogen reduction, and phosphating. When applied to the tandem of FFA for EL production, it exhibited a high selectivity of 90.1% at 160 °C under ethanol and water via acetalization–hydrogenolysis–hydrolysis route. Catalytic mechanism investigation indicated that in situ hydrogen spillover from NiCoP nanoparticles to the LaPO 4 support, leading to the formation of H + –H − pairs. These H + –H − pairs not only provide Brønsted acid sites to drive FFA acetalization and 2-ethoxymethyl furan (EMF) hydrolysis but also activate the C–O bonds of the key intermediate 2-diethoxymethyl furan (DEMF) via the S N 2 mechanism, markedly accelerating the hydrogenolysis step. Moreover, the NiCoP/LaPO 4 catalyst shows remarkable catalytic versatility for the synthesis of different alkyl levulinates from a range of alcohols (i.e., methanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol and benzyl alcohol). This study presents an efficient bifunctional catalysis approach for complex tandem reaction pathways aimed at synthesizing alkyl levulinate by hydrogen spillover to generate transient H + –H − pairs.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) H 2 S splitting offers a dual-functional strategy for sustainable hydrogen sulfide valorization and atmospheric remediation, but it is still hindered by sluggish charge dynamics and poor stability. Here, we pioneer a hierarchical ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnIn 2 S 4 /NiCoP photoanode that synergistically integrates heterojunction engineering and surface cocatalyst modification to address these challenges. The enhanced photoinduced carrier separation is accomplished by ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnIn 2 S 4 through accelerated charge transfer kinetics with role of built-in electric field and hybrid energy bands. Corresponding sulfur oxidization photocurrent density of 2.24 mA/cm 2 is achieved that is 8.30 folds higher than that of pristine ZnFe 2 O 4 . Subsequent modification with NiCoP nanoparticles further optimizes the surface electronic states, which include increased DOS and decreased R ct,trap , leading to accelerated charge injection dynamics and suppressed carrier recombination at the surface. Meanwhile, PEC stability of the heterojunction is increased to 77 % from 62 % stemmed from desulphurization role of NiCoP protective layer, that is extremely higher than 44 % of ZnFe 2 O 4 . The prime PEC sulfur oxidization reaction kinetics are displayed by ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnIn 2 S 4 /NiCoP with charge transfer efficiency improved to 22.70 % from 2.45 %. Hence, sulfur oxidization photocurrent density of ZnFe 2 O 4 is enhanced to 3.44 mA/cm 2 from 0.27 mA/cm 2 with light absorption edge of 558 nm. This work not only demonstrates the highest reported PEC H 2 S splitting performance but also provides a universal design framework-combining bandgap engineering with surface state modulation—for developing robust photoelectrodes in toxic gas valorization systems.

Hydrogen (H2) stands as a clean energy alternative to fossil fuels, especially within the domain of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), offering prospective solutions to mitigate both environmental and energy-related challenges. In this work, we successfully synthesized a sea-urchin-like catalyst, specifically a nickel–cobalt phosphide nanoneedle array on N-doped carbon nanospheres (Ni0.5Co1.5P@NCSs), for efficient HER by a sequential hydrothermal and low-temperature phosphating process. The catalyst exhibits sea-urchin-like structures, offering a specific surface area of 298 m2 g–1 and consequently furnishing a greater abundance of active sites. Comparing with non-sea-urchin-like Ni0.5Co1.5P@CN catalysts, the Ni0.5Co1.5P@NCSs exhibit an overpotential of 163 mV at 10 mA cm–2, a Tafel slope of 60 mV dec–1, and a maintained current density of approximately 90% during 50 h of continuous electrolysis. Experiments demonstrate that the outstanding electrochemical properties of the Ni0.5Co1.5P@NCSs originate from nitrogen doping of carbon spheres, the distinctive morphology of sea-urchin-like nanoneedle arrays, and simultaneous enhancements in intermediate adsorption energy, charge transfer, and electrolyte diffusion channel shortening. This work emphasizes a preparation strategy for synthesizing an attractive electrocatalyst with a low cost and efficient HER performance.

Transition-metal phosphides have been identified as effective materials for improving electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution. In this study, Ni2P, Co2P, and NiCoP yolk–shell structures were embedded in N- and P-doped carbon nanofibers (NPNFs) by controlling the heat-treatment procedure of the fiber precursors. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity of the samples was tested. The formation process of phosphides introduced a large number of surface defects that act as active sites to improve H2 evolution. NPNF embedding composite NiCoP particles exhibited better performance compared with Ni2P–NPNFs and Co2P–NPNF samples in acidic conditions. In the case of a molar ratio Ni : Co : P of 1 : 1 : 1, NiCoP-decorated NPNFs revealed the best HER performance, which is ascribed to the loading of NiCoP composite particles, which greatly increased the specific surface area. NiCoP–NPNFs exhibited overpotentials of 183 and 280 mV at current densities of 1 mA cm−2 and 10 mA cm−2, respectively, with a Tafel slope of 94.5 mV dec−1.

One-step green phosphidation using biomass guanine and phosphoric acid. • NiCoP anchored on N-doped carbon synergistically accelerates redox kinetics. • Optimized Ni/Co ratio induces lattice distortion for enhanced sensing. • High stability, selectivity, and accuracy in complex real-sample analysis. • Achieves ultra-sensitive MTZ detection (LOD: 0.029 μM, range: 0.05–350 μM). As a broad-spectrum antibiotic, metronidazole (MTZ) is extensively used in clinical and aquaculture fields. However, its continuous overuse leads to severe environmental accumulation, posing significant ecotoxicological risks and threatening human health. Herein, we developed an ultra-sensitive, eco-friendly electrochemical sensor for MTZ. The novelty of this work lies in utilizing natural biomass guanine as a dual carbon/nitrogen precursor and non-toxic phosphoric acid to in situ anchor bimetallic nickel-cobalt phosphide (NiCoP) onto nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NiCoP/GC) via a facile one-step process. Mechanistically, the synergistic effect among the highly conductive nitrogen-doped carbon skeleton, NiCoP bimetallic centers, and highly electronegative phosphorus significantly accelerates the proton-dependent electroreduction kinetics of MTZ. Providing specific quantitative advantages, the sensor achieves a broad linear range (0.05–350 μM) and an ultra-low detection limit of 0.029 μM. Crucially, it exhibits excellent anti-interference and reproducibility in complex real matrices, including honey, milk, and environmental water. In summary, the successful integration of biomass-derived carbon and bimetallic phosphide yields an ultra-sensitive sensor, providing a robust green platform for monitoring antibiotic residues in food and environmental ecosystems. The development of cost-efficient electrocatalysts is vital for advancing the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, NiCoP nanorods are hydrothermally anchored on nitrogen N–P-co-doped mesoporous carbon (NPMC) derived from corn stalk cores. The N–P-co-doped framework (N/P atomic ratio ≈ 1:1) and mesoporous structure provide abundant anchoring sites and rapid transport pathways, which enable uniform dispersion of NiCoP and enhanced transfer of interfacial charge. Systematic regulation of the Ni/Co ratio optimizes the local electronic structure of Ni–Co–P active centers, leading to more favorable H∗ adsorption energetics and accelerated HER kinetics, as supported by density functional theory calculations. The optimized Ni 1.5 Co 0.5 P/NPMC delivers an overpotential of 78 mV at 10 mA/cm 2 and a Tafel slope of 66 mV/dec in 1.0 M KOH. This work establishes a practical design principle in which biomass-derived, doped, and mesoporous carbon supports are processed with composition regulation to create efficient, nonnoble electrocatalysts for the alkaline HER.

To tackle the conversion and storage of extra renewable electricity and satisfy the ceaselessly expanding worldwide energy need, the craft of affordable and steady bifunctional electrocatalysts stands as vital. In this work, a FeCr co-doped Co(PO 3 ) 2 /NiCoP (FC-CPO/NCP) heterojunction electrocatalyst with self-supported 3D fibrous root system-like structure is successfully fabricated on nickel foam via a classic two-step hydrothermal-phosphatization approach. This fibrous root system-like nanostructure offers abundant porous channels and exposed active sites, which efficiently accelerate the electrolyte transport and enable the smooth proceeding of electrocatalytic reactions. Meanwhile, benefiting from its intrinsic interfacial composition and synergistic effect of dual metal doping, the FC-CPO/NCP catalyst facilitates the rapid electron transfer, optimizes the electronic structure and elevates the catalytic activity. Electrochemical characterizations verify that the as-prepared catalyst delivers appropriate bifunctional activities, showing the overpotentials of 225 mV for OER and 55 mV for HER at 10 mA cm −2 in alkaline electrolyte. When assembled as both electrodes into an electrolyzer for overall water splitting, the system achieves a current density of 10mA cm −2 at the cell voltage of 1.50 V and maintains robust stability over 72 h of continuous operation. This work provides an efficient and economical strategy for the rational design of high-performance electrocatalysts, thereby advancing the progress of sustainable energy conversion devices.
