Sb3+ doping confers highly efficient and color-diverse broadband light emission to all-inorganic metal-halide perovskites. However, the emission mechanism is still under debate. Herein, a trace amount of Sb3+ ions (<0.1% atomic percentage) doping in the typical all-inorganic perovskites Cs2NaInCl6, Rb3InCl6, and Cs2InCl5·H2O allows universal observation of the fine structure in the photoluminescence excitation spectrum of the ns2 electron. A lifetime mapping method was utilized to reveal the origin of broadband emission triggered by Sb3+ doping, by which various fluorescence components can be differentiated. In particular, free-exciton emission was identified at the high-energy end of the broadband emission for all three doped systems. The excitation-energy- and temperature-dependent fluorescence decay further indicates the existence and origin of self-trapped states. The observed structural and vibrational symmetry-dependent emission behaviors suggest dipole interactions can dramatically alter Stokes-shift energy and modulate the light-emitting wavelength.

Zero-dimensional (0D) tin halide perovskites have emerged as promising luminescent materials owing to their broadband emission, high quantum yield, and negligible self-absorption. Yet, their luminescence efficiency and stability remain insufficient for practical optoelectronic applications. Here, Sb3+dopants are introduced into Cs4SnBr6through a water-assisted wet ball milling strategy, resulting in bright and thermally robust emission. The doped materials exhibit pronounced self-trapped exciton (STE) luminescence centered at 525 nm with a broad full width at half maximum of 110 nm, a large Stokes shift of approximately ~1.3 eV, and a photoluminescence lifetime of ~0.8 µs. Remarkably, Sb3+incorporation boosts the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) up to 64% at room temperature while simultaneously improving thermal stability. Correlated spectroscopic analyses reveal that the Sb3+-induced lattice distortion of the [SnBr6]4−octahedra strengthens electron–phonon interactions and elevates the STE binding energy, thereby stabilizing the excited states and suppressing nonradiative losses.

Multifunctional integrated optical sensors have attracted considerable attention for their fast response and high precision. However, it remains a challenge to decouple the crosstalk on the multisensory in a single sensor to enhance reliability and practicality. Here, we present a generic strategy for introducing multiple optical parameters, a fluorescence intensity ratio, and a lifetime to monitor alterations of temperature and strain synergistically. An ultrasensitive sensing platform with suitable multiple emissions was constructed by designing luminescent metal halides to realize versatile energy transfer channels between intrinsic self-trapped excitons and dopants' emission centers. Thus, the flexible fiber was fabricated and committed to monitoring temperature and strain in real-time working conditions with precision and repeatability. Moreover, the decoupling of temperature and strain sensing can be performed by the fluorescence intensity ratio and the lifetime of the ${\mathrm{Mn}}^{2+}$ ions. This work paves the way for emerging luminescent metal halides with multiple emissions applied in advanced multifunctional optical sensors and provides the solution for decoupling the crosstalk on the multisensory to enhance its reliability and practicality.

Optical temperature sensing based on luminescence intensity ratio shows significant potential in achieving accurate temperature detection. In this work, Sb 3+ /Mn 2+ co-doped Cs 2 NaYCl 6 double perovskites were synthesised via a hydrothermal method . Introducing Sb 3+ ions to the host significantly enhances the radiative recombination of self-trapped excitons (STEs), resulting in a broad blue emission. The co-doping of Mn 2+ ions to the composition leads to a tunable dual-emission in the spectra, originating from the energy transfer between the STEs and Mn 2+ ions. The dependence of the dual-emission on temperature is employed for optical temperature sensing. The maximum relative sensitivity, optimal thermal resolution, and optimal thermal repeatability are determined as 1.40 % K −1 , 0.002 K and 99.3% at 250 K, respectively. The results indicate that the synthesised Cs 2 NaYCl 6 : Sb 3+ /Mn 2+ double perovskites are promising candidates for high-sensitivity optical thermometers.

Inorganic indium-based halide double perovskites (DPs) are environmentally friendly alternatives to lead-based halide perovskites in light-emitting diodes, but commonly suffer from low quantum efficiency and harsh synthesis conditions. Herein, a large-scale green method using water as solvent is developed for the synthesis of 3D Cs 2 NaInCl 6 and 0D Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O with/without Sb 3+ dopant at room temperature. The transformation between Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O and Cs 2 NaInCl 6 products is controlled by the concentration of eco-friendly NaCl, where excess Cl − and Na + ions play important roles in inhibiting In 3+ hydrolysis and promoting Cs 2 NaInCl 6 crystallization, respectively. The obtained Cs 2 NaInCl 6 :Sb and Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O:Sb exhibit highly luminescent self-trapped exciton-related blue (450 nm; photoluminescence quantum yield [PLQY] ≈85%) and yellow (610 nm; PLQY ≈88%) emissions, which are comparable to those obtained by previous methods. Tunable cold/warm white light with a PLQY of up to ≈73% is achieved by the rational assembly of two components with highly overlapped excitation wavelength ranges. Each component demonstrates remarkable stability against humidity and heat. This composite shows great potential in solid-state lighting for general illumination.

Inorganic lead-free halide perovskites with a broad-band emission of self-trapped excitons (STEs) have attracted great attention in lighting applications. However, it remains a fundamental challenge to expand the display color gamut because it is difficult to individually tune the emitting proportion at different wavelengths. Herein, we employ a doping route to incorporate Sb3+, Er3+, and Ho3+ ions into the Cs2NaInCl6, which enables multicolor emissions with narrow full width at half-maxima and high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs). The blue emission (445 nm) originates from STEs in the [SbCl6]3– octahedrons, while the narrowband green (550 nm) and red (655 nm) emissions are mainly derived from the Er3+ and Ho3+ ions, respectively. An efficient energy transfer between multiple luminescent centers is the key point to achieve such an efficient and tunable emission. By controlling the lanthanide doping level, the emission color can be systematically modulated, and cold 10401 K (0.278, 0.286) to warm 4608 K (0.347, 0.298) adjustable white-light emission (PLQY of ∼70%) can be achieved successfully. The results provide inspiration for the material design of lead-free perovskites with efficient and tunable light-emitting properties for optoelectronic applications.

Lead-free halide double perovskites (DPs) have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent optoelectronic properties, but the synthesis of one-dimensional (1D) organic–inorganic hybrid halide DPs with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is still challenging to date. Herein, we successfully prepared high-quality 1D hybrid (TMA)2NaInCl6 (TMA is tetramethylammonium) DPs by two synthetic routes and near-unity PLQY was achieved by incorporating Sb3+ ions into (TMA)2NaInCl6, which is much higher than that of 3D all-inorganic DPs. Temperature-dependent PL spectroscopic characterizations indicated that strong electron–phonon coupling existed in the excited state in doped system. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the incorporation of Sb3+ ions modulated the distribution of density of states and 24-fold enhancing in transition probability thereby significantly improved the PLQY. Our study presented new physical insights for in-depth understanding photophysical mechanisms and should be very important for regulating the optical performance of perovskite materials.

Driven by the escalating demand for cutting-edge materials in interactive encryption and customized display, the optimization of excitonic coupling mechanisms in perovskite-based luminescent systems has emerged as a pivotal focus in advanced materials research. Inspired by synergistic doping (SD), a photoswitchable energy transfer channel is realized utilizing the UV-responsive Cs 2 NaInCl 6 : Sb 3+ -Ho 3+ (CNIC: Sb-Ho) phosphor. Benefiting from the self-trapped exciton of Sb 3+ , the visible blue luminescence of Ho 3+ achieves excitation reconstruction through SD, with a sensitization coefficient from Sb 3+ to Ho 3+ in CNIC reaching two orders of magnitude. Notably, CNIC: Sb-Ho quantum dot is embedded into polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) fibers, respectively, and distinct color coordinate channels are created by altering the doping concentration and fiber matrix, thereby enabling the personalization and the customization of the desired colors with enhanced precision. Furthermore, excellent read-in performance under UV irradiation is achieved by screen-printing CNIC: Sb-Ho microcrystal on nanofibers and combining it with ACSII code, which endows nanofibers with UV-induced controllable shape programming behavior for interactive multidimensional information encryption. This work establishes an enhanced visual interaction framework through effectively integrating perovskite fluorescence tunability and nanofiber adaptive structures, thus opening new possibilities for the smart application of next-generation optical encryption technology.

The field of metal halide engineering has made considerable progress, yet additional studies are needed to completely grasp the intriguing principles that govern their luminescence. In this work, we report a novel zero-dimensional (0D) organic-inorganic metal halide hybrid (OIMH) (C 3 H 12 N 2 ) 2 InCl 7 (C 3 H 12 N 2 = 1,3-propane diamine cation) and reveal its interesting luminescent properties through experimental research and theoretical calculations. The photoluminescence (PL) of (C 3 H 12 N 2 ) 2 InCl 7 is a synergistic combination of intrinsic self-trapped exciton (STE) emission and defect-bound exciton (DBE) emission. Doping with Sb 3+ induces several changes in (C 3 H 12 N 2 ) 2 InCl 7 , including defect passivation, a reduction in the band gap, and structural shrinkage. These modifications result in a transition of PL centers to external STE emission, with the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) increasing from 4.44 % to 68.70 %. Our work proposes, for the first time, the synergistic emission of STE and DBE and reveals the effect of metal ion doping, providing new insights into the mechanisms of materials exhibiting multifunctional exciton emission.

0D Sb 3+ -based organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide (OIMH) scintillators have gained significant attention due to their efficient self-trapped exciton (STE) emission. However, the interplay between local structural distortion, defect-states, and STE emission remains insufficiently understood. Herein, two structurally distinct 0D Sb 3 + -based OIMHs, [HP(o-tol) 3 ] 2 SbBr 5 and [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 , are investigated to elucidate structure-property relationships governing exciton dynamics. Specifically, [HP(o-tol) 3 ] 2 SbBr 5 features a highly distorted [SbBr 5 ] 2− square pyramid with an active lone pair, whereas [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 contains a symmetric [SbBr 6 ] 3− octahedron with an inactive lone pair. Despite stronger distortion, the former exhibits a low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 6%, while the latter achieves a high PLQY of 81%. Through combined photophysical analysis and first-principles calculations, we reveal that the stronger distortion induces defect-states, which compete with STE emission and lead to enhanced non-radiative losses. Consequently, [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 demonstrates promising X-ray scintillation performance, with a light yield (LY) of 12200 ± 200 photons MeV −1 . This performance enabled the fabrication of flexible [HP(m-tol) 3 ] 4 SbBr 7 @SEBS scintillator films, achieving a spatial resolution of 8.0 lp mm −1 and high-quality 2D & 3D X-ray imaging and tomography, offering a promising path for future medical and industrial inspection technologies.

Low-dimensional hybrid metal halides (HMHs) have emerged as promising multifunctional phosphors due to their soft structural and compositional diversity. However, combining multiple emissive channels, including fluorescence, phosphorescence, and afterglow, within a single material platform remains nontrivial. Here, we develop a series of zero-dimensional (5-MBI)3In1–xCl6:x% Sb3+ crystals with diverse luminescent behaviors. Specially, (5-MBI)3InCl6 exhibits blue fluorescence and green phosphorescence with a lifetime of 173.22 ms. However, Sb3+ ion doping introduces an intense self-trapped exciton (STEs) emission peaking at 650 nm through efficient radiative transition, characterized by a large Stokes shift (292 nm) and a full width at half-maximum of 183 nm. Meanwhile, this incorporation significantly elevates the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 6.41% to 73.27%. Furthermore, (5-MBI)3In1–xCl6:x% Sb3+ displays composition-dependent thermal quenching behavior between 78 and 298 K, spanning normal, zero, and antithermal quenching. The combination of high-efficiency, broadband, and thermally adaptive emission enables applications in multimodal optical anticounterfeiting and plant-growth lighting. This work establishes a versatile zero-dimensional HMH platform for engineering coupled emissive pathways in soft halide systems.

Zero-dimensional (0D) perovskites have emerged as a promising class of luminescent materials due to their strong carrier confinement and efficient self-trapped exciton (STE) emission. However, achieving high emission efficiency and tailored photoluminescence (PL) through rational dopant engineering remains a challenge. In this work, we demonstrate the successful synthesis of phase-pure, 0D Ce 3+ /Sb 3+ co-doped K 3 InCl 6 microcrystals, which retain the intrinsic [InCl 6 ] 3- octahedral structure. We unveil the distinct yet synergistic roles of the co-dopants: Sb 3+ acts not only as an efficient STE emitter but also as a structural modulator, while Ce 3+ functions as an effective ultraviolet (UV) absorber and energy sensitizer. Crucially, we observe anti-correlated changes in the exciton binding energies upon co-doping: a decrease for Ce 3+ and a significant increase for Sb 3+ . This compelling evidence directly confirms the occurrence of efficient energy transfer from Ce 3+ to Sb 3+ , which is further supported by the concomitant suppression of Ce 3+ emission and a remarkable enhancement of the characteristic Sb 3+ green emission centered at 520 nm. By optimizing the dopant synergy effect, we achieve a substantial boost in the overall green luminescence. This work not only provides fundamental insights into the dopant interactions and energy transfer mechanisms within 0D perovskite systems but also establishes a practical and effective strategy for the development of novel and high-performance luminescent metal halide perovskite materials.
