Dry reforming of methane toward syngas (CH 4 + CO 2 = 2CO + 2H 2 ) presents a proper solution for depleting petroleum and climate change yet remains not industrialized. Herein, NiO x nanoparticles are coupled with GaN nanowires for this target. The as-designed hybrid of NiO x /GaN NWs demonstrates a low onset temperature of 280 o C for dry reforming of methane with a syngas activity of 121.7 mmol·g cat -1 ·h -1 and nearly 100% selectivity. Together with the outstanding stability, a turnover number of 40372 mole syngas per mole Ni species is achieved over 160 cycles without noticeable activity degradation. The correlative kinetic experiments, isotope experiments, in-situ spectroscopic characterizations, as well as density functional theory calculations reveal that the oxidized nickel species with O vacancies and its unique electronic interaction with GaN significantly reduce the apparent activation energy of the reaction, primarily contributing to the superior activity at low temperature. What is more, the evolution track of CH 4 and CO 2 to syngas was comprehensively studied at atomic level, disclosing an obvious anti-coking chemical loop with excellent stability. This work presents a strategy for efficient and stable dry reforming of methane toward syngas under mild conditions.

The average annual global production of waste textiles exceeds 92 million tons, with the majority landfilled and incinerated, resulting in energy waste and environmental pollution. In this study, a thermal conversion process for waste textiles by gasification coupling with catalytic reforming under a steam atmosphere was proposed. The gasification performance of the waste textiles jumped with the introduction of steam and catalyst compared to pyrolysis at 800 °C. The syngas yield increased from 20.86 to 80.97 mmol/g and the hydrogen concentration increased from 17.79 to 50.91 vol.%, which was an increase of 288.12% and 186.18%, respectively. The excellent gasification performance mainly came from two sources: steam promotion for volatiles production and Fe-N-BC promotion for steam reforming of volatiles by Fe2O3, Fe3O4, Fe-Nx, etc. This study has achieved the efficient production of hydrogen-rich syngas from waste textiles, providing a new idea and theoretical basis for the effective removal and utilization of waste textiles.

Integrating CO 2 capture and utilization (ICCU) in the production of syngas for the C1 chemical industry through ICCU-RWGS (reverse water–gas shift reaction) is a vital strategy for achieving carbon reduction, and designing highly active dual-functional materials (DFMs) capable of CO 2 adsorption and in-situ conversion is crucial. Alkaline lithium ceramics with high availability, featuring high CO 2 capture and catalytic performance, are promising DFMs candidates for ICCU-RWGS. Herein, lithium ceramics of Li 5 FeO 4, Li 6 CoO 4 and Li 6 ZnO 4 were prepared via solid state synthesis as potential DFMs for ICCU-RWGS applications, and structure-property-activity relationships of the lithium ceramics DFMs in ICCU were discussed. The Li-Zn sample with high surface basicity and high density and uniform dispersion of active sites demonstrated a high CO 2 uptake (7.71 mmol CO 2 /g), CO yield (6.52 mmol CO/g), CO 2 conversion (84.9 %) and CO selectivity (∼100 %) as well as moderate CO 2 adsorption and hydrogenation kinetics at 650 °C, 10 %CO 2 and 40 %H 2 , making it a promising candidate for ICCU-RWGS. However, the Li-Zn DFMs exhibited poor cyclic ICCU-RWGS working stability due to lithium sublimation and crystal sintering at high temperatures, which deserves more future efforts to solve the dilemma. Our findings provide valuable insights into designing cost-effective DFMs for ICCU applications.

The highly selective conversion of CO 2 -containing syngas to higher oxygenates (C 2+ OH), while achieving CO/CO 2 co-conversion, remains a fundamental challenge. In this work, we developed a series of multifunctional catalysts based on CoMn and ZnFe 2 O 4 with various coupling configurations. By precisely regulating the synergistic coupling of elementary reaction steps, we have successfully achieved the conversion of CO 2 -containing syngas while avoiding the removal of CO 2 . Specifically, the CoMn(up)|ZnFe 2 O 4 (down) catalyst achieved 32.2% and 14.8% of CO and CO 2 conversion, yielding 41.5% oxygenate selectivity with a C 2+ OH/ROH fraction of 91.2%. Furthermore, the catalyst exhibited exceptional stability over a 240 h continuous run. The study reveals that the suitable CO 2 concentration (<12%) promotes the formation of C 2+ oxygenates, whereas high CO 2 concentrations negatively affect the C–C coupling. Catalyst characterization and mechanistic studies demonstrate that a small amount of CO 2 enhances the formation of formate and carbonate intermediates on the catalyst surface. In CO/CO 2 hydrogenation, the multifunctional catalyst provides an additional pathway, in which the C–C coupling proceeds via the reaction between CH x ∗ alkyl species generated on the CoMn component and CH 3 O∗ methoxy intermediates formed on the ZnFe 2 O 4 catalyst surface.

Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a high-performance thermoplastic with considerable potential for H 2 and syngas productions via pyrolysis. However, its conventional non-catalytic pyrolysis suffers from high energy consumption and low H 2 and syngas yields. This study investigates the catalytic pyrolysis of PEEK using nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH) 2 ) to enhance the gas production efficiency. PEEK mixed with Ni(OH) 2 at different molar ratios (1:0–1:2) was pyrolyzed up to 1073 K under a nitrogen atmosphere. The H 2 yield increased with catalyst loading and reached a maximum of 25.9 mg/g at a PEEK: Ni(OH) 2 ratio of 1:0.5 (13.85 wt%), corresponding to a 264.3% increase compared with non-catalytic pyrolysis. The syngas yield also reached a maximum of 0.75 g/g under the same condition. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the addition of Ni(OH) 2 significantly lowered the onset decomposition temperature of PEEK from 832 K to 532 K, and transformed its two-stage pyrolysis into a four-stage process with a 10.4% reduction in char residue. In-situ X-ray diffraction revealed that Ni(OH) 2 was progressively transformed into NiO and Ni during heating, indicating the formation of catalytically relevant Ni-containing phases within the pyrolysis temperature range. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the catalyst was distributed within the carbon matrix and altered the morphology of the pyrolysis residue. These observations provide qualitative evidence of morphological changes after catalytic pyrolysis. These findings demonstrate that the catalytic potential of Ni(OH) 2 in facilitating H 2 -rich syngas production from PEEK.

Ni-based oxides as oxygen carriers usually show high activity for chemical looping methane anaerobic oxidation, but the selectivity control for partial oxidation of methane to syngas is challenging. Here, we report a modulated NiO-based oxygen carriers that can selectively oxidize methane to CO and H 2 with high conversion under relatively low temperatures (700 °C) via a strategy of hydrotalcite derivatives (MMO). Selective syngas production (96.0 %) was obtained over the Ni 1.5 Mg 1.5 Al-MMO with excellent methane conversion of 93.9 % at 700 °C. The modulation of Mg content in Ni 3−x Mg x Al-MMO can alter the reducibility of oxygen species, thereby enabling targeted control of product selectivity. The introduction of Mg reconfigures the local coordination environment of Ni, promoting the formation of Ni-O-Mg. This structural modification enhances selectivity by regulating reducibility, while simultaneously improving catalytic stability by effectively suppressing Ni sintering and phase separation from Al 2 O 3 . Notably, the derivative effects of the hydrotalcite precursor during preparation promote the uniform formation and dispersion of Ni-O-Mg. This study investigates the impact of reactive oxygen species in nickel-based oxygen carriers on the product selectivity for chemical looping methane anaerobic oxidation.

The preparation of high-value fuels and chemicals through the electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CDRR) is of great significance to the virtuous cycle of carbon dioxide. However, due to the high overpotential involved in this reaction, high power consumption and high-cost noble-metal-based catalysts are required for driving this process. Herein, the electrochemical CDRR was achieved on biocompatible metal-free nitrogen, phosphorus co-doped carbon-based materials (NP-C) in the microbial fuel cell-microbial electrolysis cell (MFC-MEC) coupling system. As the bioelectrochemistry in MFC supplied power to drive the electrocatalysis in MEC, syngas was spontaneously produced from this coupling system without external energy input. With the NP-C materials as the excellent bifunctional electrocatalyst for the CDRR and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), the current density of the MEC reached −0.52 mA cm −2 , and the Faradaic efficiencies (FEs) of CO and H 2 were 60% and 40%, respectively, at a load resistance of 10 Ω. Moreover, the CO/H 2 product ratio can be changed by adjusting the load resistance, which will widely meet various demand of syngas usage in further reactions. This study provides a spontaneous and tunable production of syngas in biogas digesters via a electrochemical strategy.

The Fischer−Tropsch synthesis (FTS), the key industrial process for the transformation of syngas into valuable chemicals and clean fuels, benefits from advanced catalyst design. Iron carbide nanoparticles (Fe 3 C) and their graphene oxide-derived counterpart (Fe 3 C/Graphene) were successfully synthesized. Fe 3 C/Graphene exhibits a large specific surface area, high pore volume, and abundant surface defective sites provided by the reduced graphene oxide support. Together with the stabilized Fe 3 C active phase, these features promote CO activation and C−C coupling, leading to enhanced CO conversion, higher C 5+ selectivity, and suppressed CH 4 formation comparedwith Fe 3 C. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the improved CO activation on Fe 3 C/Graphene originates from reduced electron transfer and weakened Fe−C and C−O bonds. For Fe 3 C, the rate-determining step is CO* + H* → CHO*, whereas for Fe 3 C/Graphene, the rate-determining step is CHO* → CH* + O*. It also reveals that Fe 3 C/Graphene accelerates this step, corroborating the enhanced CO activation observed experimentally. Furthermore, the simulations confirm that defective graphene significantly raises the effective barrier for methanation, perfectly rationalizing the suppressed CH 4 formation. These findings demonstrate that the introduction of graphene oxide is a effective strategy for tailoring the catalytic performance of Fe-based FTS catalysts.

Electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2RR) presents a scalable route to decarbonize steelmaking by producing CO-rich syngas from captured CO2 and renewable electricity. Here, we report an inverse ZnO/AuCu electrocatalyst with a tunable oxide-metal interface. The catalyst achieves a CO Faradaic efficiency of 85.6% and a current density of −158.2 mA cm–2 at −1.0 V vs. RHE, demonstrating industrial-level performance. The engineered interface enables precise control over the CO/H2 ratio in the produced syngas, spanning from 0.3 to 10.3. This flexibility allows for tailoring the syngas to align with the thermochemical requirements of iron ore reduction. density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the ZnO/AuCu interface synergistically promotes CO2 activation by lowering the energy barrier for the rate-determining *COOH formation, resulting from an elevated d-band center, and a reduced work function. Life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrates that integrating ZnO/AuCu catalyst into blast furnace workflows could reduce CO2 emissions by ∼80% and improve electricity utilization by an order of magnitude relative to fossil-based pathways. This work establishes a materials-driven strategy that bridges catalyst design and industrial carbon recycling, paving the way for sustainable steel manufacturing.

The composite catalysts AC-Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 were prepared by the co-precipitation method with activated carbon (AC) and [Ni,Mg,Al]-hydrotalcite as the precursors, and characterized by XRD , TG-DTG, N 2 adsorption, H 2 -TPR and SEM, respectively. The resultant catalysts were examined for CO 2 reforming of methane. The results showed that the introduction of AC into Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 catalyst improved the textural properties, especially the surface area and pore volume of mesopores , and decreased the size of metal Ni. Compared with Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 , the composite AC-Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 exhibited higher catalytic activity , stability and H 2 /CO ratio. But the AC content obviously influenced the catalytic performances. High AC loading resulted in the decline of catalytic activity owing to lower surface area and fewer active Ni content in the catalyst. 10AC-Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 with 10% AC displayed the best catalytic activity and stability compared with Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 . About 86.2% conversion of CH 4 , 91.3% conversion of CO 2 and above 0.95 ratio of H 2 /CO were achieved over 10AC-Ni/MgO-Al 2 O 3 sample for the reaction time of 5430 min. This work provides a route to improve catalytic performances of Ni-based catalysts in CO 2 reforming of methane.

ABSTRACT Co 2 C-based catalysts with SiO 2 , γ-Al 2 O 3 , and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as support materials were prepared and evaluated for the Fischer-Tropsch to olefin (FTO) reaction. The combination of catalytic performance and structure characterization indicates that the cobalt-support interaction has a great influence on the Co 2 C morphology and catalytic performance. The CNT support facilitates the formation of a CoMn composite oxide during calcination , and Co 2 C nanoprisms were observed in the spent catalysts, resulting in a product distribution that greatly deviates from the classical Anderson-Schulz-Flory (ASF) distribution, where only 2.4 C% methane was generated. The Co 3 O 4 phase for SiO 2 - and γ-Al 2 O 3 -supported catalysts was observed in the calcined sample. After reduction, CoO, MnO, and low-valence CoMn composite oxide were generated in the γ-Al 2 O 3 -supported sample, and both Co 2 C nanospheres and nanoprisms were identified in the corresponding spent catalyst. However, only separated phases of CoO and MnO were found in the reduced sample supported by SiO 2 , and Co 2 C nanospheres were detected in the spent catalyst without the evidence of any Co 2 C nanoprisms. The Co 2 C nanospheres led to a relatively high methane selectivity of 5.8 C% and 12.0 C% of the γ-Al 2 O 3 - and SiO 2 -supported catalysts, respectively. These results suggest that a relatively weak cobalt-support interaction is necessary for the formation of the CoMn composite oxide during calcination, which benefits the formation of Co 2 C nanoprisms with promising catalytic performance for the sustainable production of olefins via syngas.

Bifunctional catalysts composed of ZnCrO x oxide and ZSM-5 were widely used in syngas-to-aromatics (STA). The CO conversion on bifunctional catalysts was generally higher than that on oxide catalysts attributed to the pulling effect of zeolite, but the key factor for the improvement of CO conversion was still short of systematical explanation. In this work, the degree of nonstoichiometric spinel of ZnCrO x (ZxC) oxides was finely tuned through modulating the ratio of Zn/Cr, which could significantly influence the catalytic behaviors of ZnCrO x /ZSM-5 catalysts for the CO hydrogenation to aromatics. The increase of nonstoichiometric spinel corresponded to the increase of oxygen vacancies and the enhancement of Zn-Cr synergistic effect, which promoted the activation of H 2 and CO, leading to a dramatic increase of CO conversion. The work revealed that the action of ZnO and oxygen vacancies was the key factor for CO pulling in ZnCrO x oxide and ZSM-5 catalyzed STA reaction.
