Background The detection and quantification of glucose in human biofluids are critical for the early diagnosis and management of metabolic disorders such as hypoglycemia and diabetes. Non-invasive wearable sensors for sweat glucose monitoring have emerged as promising alternatives to traditional blood glucose testing due to their ease of use, rapid response, and portability. However, the development of stable, cost-effective, and enzyme-free wearable platforms capable of reliable sweat glucose detection remains a significant challenge. Current enzyme-based sensors often suffer from poor stability under ambient conditions, complex fabrication processes, and high costs, limiting their widespread applicability in resource-constrained settings. Results Au NPs/Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanozymes exhibiting dual peroxidase-like and glucose oxidase-like catalytic activities were synthesized and characterized. These nanozymes catalyze a cascade reaction: glucose oxidation generates H 2 O 2 , which is then decomposed to produce hydroxyl radicals that oxidize 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), yielding a blue-colored product for colorimetric detection. A flexible, multi-layer hydrophilic-hydrophobic array patch was fabricated by integrating the nanozymes and TMB into a paper-based matrix. This design enables efficient in situ sweat collection, concentration, and colorimetric analysis. The patch exhibits a linear detection range of 20–200 μM with a detection limit of 12.72 μM, suitable for physiological sweat glucose levels. Selectivity tests confirmed negligible interference from common sweat components. A smartphone application was developed to enable real-time, quantitative analysis of colorimetric signals. Clinical validation on multiple volunteers across different skin locations (chest, back, forearm, forehead) showed strong correlation with reference methods (HPLC-MS, commercial glucose detection kit), with relative errors <10 %. Significance This study presents a low-cost and enzyme-free sweat glucose detection platform based on Au NPs/Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanozymes. The integration of smartphone technology enables point-of-care testing, making the platform particularly suitable for personalized health monitoring. The successful validation in human subjects demonstrates its potential for real-world applications in diabetes management and early disease detection. This work bridges the gap between nanozyme catalysis and wearable sensor technology, providing a versatile platform for non-invasive biomarker detection.

Cu@CuO@TCPP-Cu heterojunction with electronic bridge was fabricated. • Cu 2+ bridge boosts charge transfer and strengthens interfacial coupling in Cu@CuO@TCPP-Cu. • The heterojunction shows enhanced SERS performance and POD-like catalytic activity. • Dual-target strategies enable sensitive PAT and H 2 O 2 detection for food safety monitoring. Engineering heterojunctions with efficient carrier separation and interfacial charge transfer is crucial for high performance surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and enzymatic catalytic activity. However, conventional asynchronous synthesized heterostructures suffer from insufficient interfacial contact, which severely restricts charge transfer kinetics and SERS/catalytic response. Here, we rationally engineer a novel flower-layered Cu@CuO@TCPP-Cu heterojunction mediated by an in situ formed “electron bridge” for high sensitivity sensing applications. A facile surface oxidation technique was employed to grow flower-like CuO in situ on a Cu foil, followed by surface-initiated encapsulation of two-dimensional MOF of TCPP-Cu through coordination between TCPP and Cu 2+ ions released from CuO. The dissociated Cu 2+ ions at the interface serve as an “electronic bridge” between CuO and TCPP-Cu, which drastically shortens the charge transfer distance and enhances interfacial coupling. This unique heterojunciton exhibits remarkable synergy in SERS signal enhancement and peroxidase (POD)-like catalytic activity, as confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. A robust solid-state SERS sensing chip was thereby constructed. Two distinct analytical strategies were subsequently established, including aptamer-mediated specific detection of patulin (PAT) and enzyme mimicking - amplified turn-on SERS assay for quantitative analysis of H 2 O 2 . The as-constructed sensing chip exhibits excellent analytical sensitivity and selectivity, achieving low limits of detection of 0.640 μg/L for PAT and 13.8 μg/L for H 2 O 2 , respectively. Furthermore, the chip successfully identified both analytes in complex food samples with high accuracy. This work provides a versatile engineering strategy for constructing high performance heterojunction toward advanced analytical and food safety applications. Herein, a novel flower-layered Cu@CuO@Cu-TCPP heterojunction is constructed via an electronic bridge strategy. The bridge-mediated interfacial electron transfer synergistically boots peroxidase-like catalytic activity and SERS performance. Integrating aptamer recognition with nanozyme amplified turn-on SERS sensing enables highly sensitive detection of PAT and H 2 O 2 , offering a universal heterojunction design paradigm and broadening applications in food safety monitoring. The “antenna effect” is one of the most important energy transfer modes in lanthanide light-emitting polymers. In this study, novel luminescent nanostructured coordination polymers (Eu–PCP) were synthesized in one step using Eu3+ as the central metal ion and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP) as the organic ligand. The unique “antenna effect” observed between Eu3+ and TCPP leads to a substantial improvement in the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emission efficiency. Eu–PCP exhibits good cathodic ECL characteristics. Additionally, Au@SnS2 nanosheets exhibit favorable electrical conductivity, biocompatibility, and a significant specific surface area. This makes them a suitable choice as substrate materials for the modification of electrode surfaces and capturing antigens. Being well known, the development of sensitive and rapid methods to detect chloramphenicol is essential for food safety. Based on this, we report a novel competitive electrochemiluminescence immunoassay to achieve ultra-sensitive and highly specific detection of chloramphenicol. The linear range was 0.0002–500 ng mL−1 and the detection limit was 0.09 pg mL−1. Apart from that, the experimental results proved that it provided a new analytical tool for the detection of antibiotic residues in food safety.

Organic pollutants, such as ciprofloxacin (CIP), are ubiquitously detected in wastewater. However, their removal remains a challenge for conventional wastewater treatment technologies. Photocatalysis and peroxymonosulfate activation coupling are considered a promising strategy for the removal of recalcitrant organic pollutants. However, identifying optimal photocatalysts that can effectively couple with peroxymonosulfate activation and induce synergistic degradation of organic pollutants remains a challenge to be addressed. In this work, a novel S-scheme inorganic–organic heterojunction BiVO 4 /Cu-TCPP (BC) was fabricated. In situ X-ray photoelectron spectrum showed that the strong internal electric field of the S-scheme heterojunctions enabled efficient carrier transport. The generated photogenerated electrons could activate the peroxymonosulfate, which further promoted the separation of the carriers. The BC-vis-peroxymonosulfate system achieved 93.1% ciprofloxacin removal in 10 min with apparent rate constants k of 0.2426 min −1 , which is larger than most reported peroxymonosulfate systems. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry demonstrated that the synergistic coupling of S-scheme heterojunction with peroxymonosulfate activation significantly improved the catalytic activity of the reaction system and enabled rapid CIP removal via both radical and nonradical pathways. The BC-vis-peroxymonosulfate system demonstrated ultra-fast removal of other quinolone antibiotics and organic pollutants and strong environmental adaptability under various conditions, suggesting its great potential for practical application. This study provides new insights for the design of efficient S-scheme heterojunction coupled peroxymonosulfate activation for environmental remediation.

In this study, carbon isotope analysis was employed to investigate hydrolysis and natural pyrite-activated persulfate (NP/PDS) degradation of TCPP. EPR and radical quenching experiments revealed that • OH and SO 4 • ⁻ were the dominant reactive oxygen species. The XPS, XRD, and FTIR results indicated Fe(Ⅱ) served as the primary active site, generating • OH and SO 4 • ⁻. For acidic and neutral hydrolysis, the apparent kinetic isotope effects ( 13 C-AKIE = 1.031 ± 0.004 and 1.030 ± 0.004, respectively) were consistent with the intrinsic KIE associated with C–O bond cleavage (1.00–1.03), suggesting that C–O bond cleavage was the initial rate-limiting step. In contrast, negligible carbon isotope fractionation during alkaline hydrolysis indicated that P–O bond cleavage was the initial rate-limiting step. For degradation in the NP/PDS, the observed 13 C-AKIEs were 1.009 ± 0.001, 1.004 ± 0.000, and 1.005 ± 0.001, respectively. These values were inconsistent with intrinsic KIEs expected for C-H (1.01–1.03) and C-Cl (1.02–1.03) bond cleavage but corresponded to the lower end of the intrinsic KIEs range for C–O bond cleavage, indicating that P–O bond cleavage was the initial rate-limiting step. Overall, this study demonstrates isotope analysis is a powerful tool for identifying the geochemical mechanisms of OPFRs in contaminated fields.

Patulin (PAT) is an unsaturated lactone mycotoxin primarily produced by Penicillium expansum and Aspergillus clavatus . Given the potential health risks and economic losses associated with PAT, the rapid detection of PAT using fluorescent aptasensors is of significant importance in evaluating food safety. However, it easily increases the cost and complexity caused by signal labeling. We combined TCPP/BDC-NH 2 mixed ligands functionalized Zr metal–organic frameworks (Zr-MOF mix ) and terminated three-stranded DNA gates (ttsDNA gates) to fabricate a label-free fluorescent aptasensor for PAT detection. The Zr-MOF mix system was synthesized via a one-pot strategy and could be used to address the problem of pore size limitation and increase the loading amounts of dyes. TtsDNA gate was integrated into the Zr-MOF mix system to control the release of dyes, exhibiting a high signal-to-background ratio. The single-stranded aptamer region in ttsDNA gate situated away from the surface of the Zr-MOF mix , resulting in a natural release of dyes in the absence of PAT. While binding to PAT resulted in target-induced conformational changes that helped form the hairpin structure of the aptamer. This structure hindered the release of dyes from the pores of Zr-MOF mix , thus reducing the fluorescence signals intensity. The stimuli-responsive DNA-gated material provides a platform for PAT analysis under conditions of a low limit of detection (0.871 pg/mL). Furthermore, the excellent specificity and anti-interference of the fluorescent aptasensor make the system suitable for the analysis of apple juice samples. This label-free strategy is cheaper and simper compared with labeled detection, especially for the development of multi-target-detection.

Rational design of efficient and durable non-precious metal electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) is a challenge of current research. In this work, the photosensitive organic molecule 5,10,15,20-tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP) has been used to modify nickel cobaltite (NiCo 2 O 4 ) nanomaterials . Under visible light irradiation , its catalytic performance for MOR is better than that of pure NiCo 2 O 4 . The photoelectrocatalytic mechanism of TCPP/NiCo 2 O 4 is attributed to the effective inhibition of photoelectron and hole recombination and then accelerated electron transfer , which are verified by photoluminescence (PL) emission spectra , impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and photocurrent response curves. Notably, the mass activity of TCPP/NiCo 2 O 4 for MOR under visible light irradiation is 299.2 mA mg −1 , higher than that of pure NiCo 2 O 4 under dark (51.2-fold) and under visible light (36.5-fold). This study is very meaningful for the development of efficient noble-metal free photoelectrocatalysts for MOR.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) have been demonstrated to induce various forms of toxicity in aquatic organisms . However, a scarcity of evidence impedes the conclusive determination of whether OPEs manifest sex-dependent toxic effects. Here, we investigated the effects of tris (1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TCPP) and resorcinol bis (diphenyl phosphate) (RDP) on the intestines of both female and male zebrafish. The results indicated that, in comparison to TCPP, RDP induced more pronounced intestinal microstructural damage and oxidative stress , particularly in male zebrafish. 16S rRNA sequencing and metabolomics revealed significant alterations in the species richness and oxidative stress-related metabolites in the intestinal microbiota of zebrafish under exposure to both TCPP and RDP, manifesting gender-specific effects. Based on differential species analysis, we defined invasive species and applied invasion theory to analyze the reasons for changes in the male fish intestinal community. Correlation analysis demonstrated that alien species may have potential effects on metabolism. Overall, this study reveals a pronounced gender-dependent impact on both the intestinal microbiota and metabolic disruptions of zebrafish due to OPEs exposure and offers a novel perspective on the influence of pollutants on intestinal microbial communities and metabolism.

Visible light driven photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants , such as bisphenol A (BPA) in wastewater, is considered as a promising strategy to solve the environmental issue . A two-dimensional (2D) porphyrin Co-TCPP MOF decorated 2D B-TiO 2−X nanosheet was successfully prepared through a facile hydrothermal method. The 2D–2D heterostructure could give rise to a built-in electric field to effectively promote the interfacial charge transfer and separation of photogenerated electron and holes. The presence of oxygen vacancy in the as-prepared heterostructure could greatly enhance the visible light harvesting ability to generate more photogenerated carriers. The Co-TCPP MOF@B-TiO 2−X exhibited remarkable photocatalytic performance for the degradation of BPA, whose degradation rate was up to 97% within 120 min irradiation. The degradation efficiency of this composite was 7.3 and 19.3 times higher than those of single Co-TCPP MOF and B-TiO 2−X respectively. The intimate contact between B-TiO 2−X and Co-TCPP MOF reduced interface resistance for charge migration, prolonged photoelectron lifetime and facilitated the charge carriers’ separation. The trapping tests verified that ·O 2 - was the mainly active species of BPA degradation. This strategy not only proves that the combination of B-TiO 2−X and Co-TCPP MOF is a feasible strategy to improve the photocatalytic degradation of BPA, but also provides some new inspirations for the construction of efficient 2D–2D composite photocatalysts.

Antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is regarded as one of the most promising antibacterial therapies due to its nonresistance, noninvasion, and rapid sterilization. However, the development of antibacterial materials with high aPDT efficacy is still a long-standing challenge. Herein, we develop an effective antibacterial photodynamic composite UiO-66-(SH)2@TCPP@AgNPs by Ag encapsulation and 4,4′,4″,4‴-(porphine-5,10,15,20-tetrayl)tetrakis(benzoic acid) (TCPP) dopant. Through a mix-and-match strategy in the self-assembly process, 2,5-dimercaptoterephthalic acid containing –SH groups and TCPP were uniformly decorated into the UiO-66-type framework to form UiO-66-(SH)2@TCPP. After Ag(I) impregnation and in situ UV light reduction, Ag NPs were formed and encapsulated into UiO-66-(SH)2@TCPP to get UiO-66-(SH)2@TCPP@AgNPs. In the resulting composite, both Ag NPs and TCPP can effectively enhance the visible light absorption, largely boosting the generation efficiency of reactive oxygen species. Notably, the nanoscale size enables it to effectively contact and be endocytosed into bacteria. Consequently, UiO-66-(SH)2@TCPP@AgNPs show a very high aPDT efficacy against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria as well as drug-resistant bacteria (MRSA). Furthermore, the Ag NPs were firmly anchored at the framework by the high density of –SH moieties, avoiding the cytotoxicity caused by the leakage of Ag NPs. By in vitro experiments, UiO-66-(SH)2@TCPP@AgNPs show a very high antibacterial activity and good biocompatibility as well as the potentiality to promote cell proliferation.

A self-cleaning electrochemical biosensor based on two-dimensional Cu-porphyrin (Cu-TCPP) metal-organic framework nanofilms , novel super G-quadruplex (G4), and DNA nanomotors was developed for the cyclic detection of Pb 2+ ions. The Cu-TCPP framework with inherent peroxidase activity can create an ultra-thin nanofilm that functioned as a carrier to support the metastable G4 comprising four individual DNA strands. The introduction of Pb 2+ and the intercalation of hemin can help it to form stable G4-hemin DNAzymes, which exhibits strong catalytic H 2 O 2 reduction activity, and its number will be directly related to the amount of the introduced Pb 2+ . Moreover, a DNA nanomotor system is introduced to achieve cyclic detection, and the addition of the fuel DNA strands enables G4 to perform a “complete-dissociation-complete” process for achieving self-cleaning of the electrode interface and the cycle detection of Pb 2+ . The synergistic effects of Cu-TCPP and G4-hemin DNAzymes, which exhibits efficient and catalytic H 2 O 2 reduction, enhance the performance of the electrochemical sensing system. The linear range of this sensor to Pb 2+ is 5 nM–5 μM, and the detection limit is 1.7 nM. Compared with the best system in reported studies, its linear range is five times wider and its detection limit is lower than the previously lowest one. Taking advantage of the Pb 2+ stabilized G4, the proposed sensor can selectively detect Pb 2+ in the presence of other metal ions . The results presented herein comprise a valuable reference for constructing DNA nanoelectronic devices and establish sensitive and cyclic detection of the target and preparing of self-cleaning electrode interfaces.

The estuarine ecological environment faces significant threats from contaminants of emerging concern (CECs); yet, the risk posed by CECs to resident organisms remains poorly understood. Here, we employed tiered toxicity testing to investigate the adverse effects and potential mechanisms of tris (1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TCPP) on the early life stages of an estuarine fish, Mugilogobius chulae . TCPP affected the development of M. chulae embryos, including survival, morphology, hatching, and behavior. A concentration-dependent transcriptomic analysis showed that TCPP disrupted 12 neurodevelopment-related KEGG pathways in M. chulae embryos, with five of the 30 % top-ranked pathways related to neurotransmitter signaling. Besides the cholinergic synapse signaling pathway, the glutamatergic signaling pathway (including NMDAR and AMPAR subtypes) may also mediate TCPP-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity. The NMDAR subtype GRIN2B was downregulated at high concentrations. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed a strong interaction between TCPP and GRIN2B, with TCPP binding to the residues Ile153 and Ile188. The results suggest that NMDARs play a crucial role in TCPP-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity toward M. chulae. AOP network analysis predicted that TCPP may impact cognitive functions and memory. Our study provides a novel testing strategy for identifying the mechanisms of toxicity of CECs, a crucial component of ecological risk assessment.
