Rapid determination of thiram in lake water using Au/Fe3O4 nanoparticles decorated MOF-867 as efficient surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrate

Shuai Zhao,Haojia Qin,Jie Huang,Qiang Chen,Shangzhong Jin,Pei Liang

Rapid determination of pesticide residues in water is of vital importance for human health. However, rapid, reliable, and highly sensitive detection of pesticide residues in water environments remains a challenging issue. In this paper, we prepare Fe 3 O 4 /MOF-867 composites using the hot solvent method, and Au + is reduced to Au NPs by the reducing agent and attached to the film of Fe 3 O 4 /MOF-867 composites by the addition of APTES as a linker to synthesize the Au/Fe 3 O 4 /MOF-867 SERS substrates. Then, we change the Fe 3 O 4 content and the concentration of the reducing agent to obtain the optimal substrate. The substrate has a detection capability of up to 10 −9 M for probe molecule R6G and the RSD is less than 5%, which demonstrates that the substrate has excellent SERS effect and reproducibility. In addition, the Au/Fe 3 O 4 /MOF-867 SERS substrates have been applied for the determination of thiram in lake water samples, with its limit of detection (LOD) up to 3.8 × 10 −10 M. The Au/Fe 3 O 4 /MOF-867 SERS substrates can quickly and efficiently collect target analytes by magnetic enrichment, have high SERS performance, and have great potential for the rapid and sensitive detection of pesticide residues and other pollutants in the environment.

Seed-mediated growth of flexible Ag NFs with high activity and their application for SERS detection of thiram in tomato juice

Li Sun,Zheng Ye,Yuan Zhi,Hua Zhang,Binlin Dou,Yuejin Shan,Jian Chen

In this study, a prospective strategy on seed-mediated growth in vacuum is provided and used to prepare flexible silver nanofilms (AC 0–3 NFs) with high purity, crystallinity and SERS performance. Noteworthy, AC 2 NFs surface is uniformly covered with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), following the appearance of numerous nano-gaps between Ag NPs. Through the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation, it is found that the ultra-small nano-gaps less than 5 nm can generate abundant “hot spots” to amplify the Raman signal. Therefore, the above AC 2 NFs as SERS substrates exhibit superior activity for the SERS detection of thiram in tomato juice, with the limit of detection (LOD) of 10 −15 M and the enhancement factor (EF) of 3.7 × 10 11 . Meanwhile, AC 2 NFs show outstanding reproducibility and stability during the SERS detection. Additionally, the calibration curve is established, by which the thiram (10 −7 to 10 −15 M) can be quantitatively detected. Clearly, the as-prepared flexible AC 2 NFs have great potential in the SERS detection and analysis.

A flexible dual-mode EC-SERS sensor of SPE/RGO/Au@Ag film for sensitively detecting thiram residues on fruit peels

Xishun Peng,Zhongchen Bai,Caizhen Zu,Yuxue He,Qi Zhao

The presence of thiram residues on fruit peels posed a significant risk to human health. Here, we prepared an electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (EC-SERS) sensor of SPE/RGO/Au@Ag flexible film to detect thiram residues on fruit peel. The surface of this film was evenly covered with Au@Ag nanoparticles, which allowed it to specifically identify thiram residues through the formation of Ag-S bond. In addition, an electrochemical method was used to modulate the energy level matching between the SERS film and the thiram molecules to improve the chemical enhancement effect of the SERS. The results indicated that the charge transfer degree between the SERS film and the thiram molecules was up to 0.875. The SPE/RGO/Au@Ag film achieved a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.1 pM at -1.3 V. Owing to its excellent SERS performance, the SPE/RGO/Au@Ag film could successfully recognize the thiram residues on apple and orange peels, with recoveries of 91% to 107% and from 89% to 102%, respectively. The flexible EC-SERS sensor offers considerable promise for sensitively recognizing thiram residues on fruit peels.

Highly sensitive detection of thiram residues on fruit peel surfaces using a filter paper-based SERS sensor with AgNWs@ZIF-8

Nuan Xu,Zhenhua Tang,Yan-Ping Jiang,Junlin Fang,Li Zhang,Xiaofang Lai,Qi-Jun Sun,Jing-Min Fan,Xin-Gui Tang,Qiu-Xiang Liu,Ji-Kang Jian

The widely used pesticide thiram is found in various environments and foodstuffs, posing a risk to human health and contaminating the environment. In this work, the novel SERS flexible sensor (FP/AgNWs@ZIF-8) consisting of silver nanowires and zeolite imidazole frameworks combined with filter paper was prepared for the sensitive and rapid detection of thiram on fruit peel surfaces. The effect that different coating cycles of ZIF-8 films exert on the Raman signal enhancement of the sensor was investigated. The results show that optimal Raman response to 4-Aminothiophenol (4-ATP) was demonstrated in the FP/AgNWs@ZIF-8(5) sensor, with a low LOD of 1.6 × 10 −15 M due to a coating period of 5. Furthermore, a novel SERS FP/AgNWs@ZIF-8 sensor with a porous and flexible structure on low-cost and eco-friendly paper was obtained, as to be immersed in a solution of thiram or wiped on a nectarine skin surface, and the highly sensitive LODs of 1.4 × 10 −12 M and 7.4 fg/cm 2 were achieved, respectively. Therefore, this facile, rapid, and sensitive flexible sensor at low-cost has excellent potential for pesticide residue detection and environmental toxicity analysis.

Innovative Synthesis of Adhesive-Assisted and Recyclable Fe3O4@PD-Ag Photomagnetic Nanocomposites as SERS probes for Ultrasensitive Thiram Detection on Fruit Peels

Keyan Liu,Wei Feng,Yanru Li,Donglai Han,Tianna Wu,Kaiyue Li,Shuo Yang

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) with enormous advantages has emerged as a powerful tool for both highly sensitive structural detection of analytes and various imaging applications. A notable advancement in the realm of multifunctional SERS substrates is the integration of magnetic nanoparticles endowed with magnetic manipulation capabilities and noble metal nanoparticles exhibiting plasmonic resonance properties. This synergistic combination offers substantial practical benefits for trace analysis across diverse fields. In this paper, a new paradigm of Fe 3 O 4 @PEI-DTC-Ag (Fe 3 O 4 @PD-Ag) photomagnetic nanocomposites based on magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (NPs), the noble metal silver quantum dots (Ag QDs) and the adhesive layer polyethyleneimine dithiocarbamate (PEI-DTC) for convenient recycling and ultrasensitive SERS detection was developed by engineering hydrothermal and seed-growth methods. The SERS performance of the Fe 3 O 4 @PD-Ag substrates with varying amounts of Ag was evaluated by detecting 4-aminothiophenol (4-ATP). Among the tested samples, Fe 3 O 4 @PD-Ag-4 with a silver solution volume of 200 ml exhibited the optimal performance, showcasing an enhancement factor ( EF ) of 4.418 × 10 5 . Moreover, the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were calculated to be less than 11.5 %, demonstrating the SERS substrates exhibit good uniformity and spectral reproducibility. Of note, the SERS substrate has demonstrated successful trace detection of thiram molecules, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) of up to 10 -9 M. The intensity of SERS signals shows a linear correlation with the logarithm of thiram concentration, ranging from 10 -4 to 10 -9 M, thus providing compelling evidence for quantitative detection. Importantly, the Fe 3 O 4 @PD-Ag-4 SERS substrate also showcases outstanding performance for detecting thiram in real food, underscoring its significant potential for application in food safety monitoring.

Wang Yuqing,Liu Yutong,Liu Ziqi,Wang Xinyue,Yu Menglu,Gao Guanghui,Zhao Yunli,Hong Jing

A novel MXene nanosheet-supported Fe₃O₄@Ag nanozyme, designed for the dual-mode colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection of the pesticide thiram in fruits is presented. The composite ingeniously integrates three key functions: magnetic enrichment, SERS signal amplification, and peroxidase-like nanozyme activity. The resulting nanozyme sensor demonstrates high sensitivity and specificity for thiram detection. The colorimetric method showed a linear range of 0.05 µM to 30 µM with a LOD of 0.016 µM, while the SERS method exhibited a linear range of 10 − 4 M to 10 − 8 M with a LOD of 3.44 × 10 − 9 M. This performance satisfies the demands for agricultural safety monitoring. The present work highlights the significant potential of the developed colorimetric-SERS dual-mode nanozyme platform for on-site pesticide residue determination . Section Graphical

Narrow-bandwidth red-emitting carbon dots from Epipremnum aureum leaves: “On-Off-On” fluorescent probe for sensitive detection of Hg2+ and Thiram

Yating Xu,Tingting Lei,Pan Zhu,Shaojing Zhao,Jiafu Xiao,Minhuan Lan

Accurate and sensitive detection of mercury ions (Hg 2+ ) and thiram is essential for food safety monitoring and environmental protection. Here, an “on-off-on” fluorescent probe based on red-emitting carbon dots (CDs) was fabricated for sequential detection of Hg 2+ and thiram. The CDs exhibited red fluorescence at λ em  = 676 nm with a narrow full width at half maximum of 25 nm. Upon exposure to Hg 2+ , the fluorescence was significantly quenched due to the static quenching mechanism, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) of 25 nM. Notably, upon the addition of thiram, the quenched fluorescence of CDs was recovered due to the strong chelation between thiram and Hg 2+ , thereby enabling sensitive detection of thiram with a LOD of 4.80 nM. The approach was successfully validated using real water samples spiked with Hg 2+ and thiram. The recovery rates were between 97.16 % and 113.83 %, with relative standard deviations below 9.11 %. This study presents a simple, eco-friendly, and effective approach for the sensitive screening of trace contaminants in complex matrices.

Rapid Determination of Thiram Residues in Fruit Juice by surface-enhanced Raman Scattering Coupled with a Gold@Silver nanoparticle-graphene Oxide Composite

Yuying Song,Yuanyi Zhang,Yiqun Huang,Yuxia Fan,Keqiang Lai

With the large-scale use of pesticides, food safety issues caused by their residues have been drawn increasing concern. In this study, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with a Au@Ag nanoparticle (NP)-graphene oxide (GO) composite substrate which was synthesized by a simple self-assembly method was applied for the rapid determination of thiram residues in fruit juice. To obtain high SERS activity, the loading and the aggregation of Au@Ag NP on the graphene oxide sheets were adjusted by controlling the size of Au@Ag nanoparticle and the concentration of graphene oxide in solution. Using the optimal conditions, the limit of detection for thiram standard solution was 6.3 ng/mL, while the limits of detection for thiram in apple juice and grape juice without any pretreatment were 36.7 and 134.4 ng/mL, respectively. The entire analytical process required less than 20 min. The results indicated that SERS technology coupled with Au@Ag nanoparticle graphene oxide composite substrate was a simple, rapid, and sensitive approach for the determination of pesticide residues in fruit juice.

Hongbin Pu,Zhibin Huang,Fang Xu,Da-Wen Sun

The development of substrate with high sensitivity and good reproducibility for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection of contaminants in foods has attracted more and more attention. Herein, a stable two-dimensional (2D) Au-Ag core–shell nanorods (Au@Ag NRs) nanoarray substrate with high-performance SERS activity was developed based on interface self-assembly strategy and successfully applied to the detection of thiram in apple sample. A broad linearity range of 0.01–10 mg/L and a low limit of detection of 0.018 mg/L were achieved for thiram solution. The substrate was stable and exhibited satisfactory sensitivity after preserving at ambient temperature for 4 weeks. Furthermore, this method presented the comparable result to that acquired from high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with satisfactory recoveries of 93–116%. The study indicated that the prepared Au@Ag NRs nanoarray substrate was promising for SERS detection of contaminants such as pesticides in foods.

Ag@WS2 quantum dots for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy: Enhanced charge transfer induced highly sensitive detection of thiram from honey and beverages

Yinshuang Song,Hai-Cai Huang,Wenhui Lu,Nianlu Li,Jie Su,Shi-Bo Cheng,Yongchao Lai,Jing Chen,Jinhua Zhan

Novel SERS substrates is urgently in demand for rapid and sensitive analysis of toxic agrochemicals from food. In this work, a monodispersed tungsten disulfide quantum dots modified silver nanosphere (Ag@WS 2 QD) was prepared and used as SERS substrate. Ag@WS 2 QD generated uniform and stable SERS signals within 2 min, displaying great promise in “mixing and reading” detection. Compared to unmodified colloidal silver nanoparticles, 4 times higher analytical enhancement factor was found in Ag@WS 2 QD. Density functional theory calculation verified the enhanced charge transfer within the coupling systems of molecule-Ag@WS 2 QD. Besides, the unique surface properties are beneficial for the enrichment of specific molecule. Both the chemical extraction and enhanced charge transfer contributes to rapid and sensitive SERS detection of Ag@WS 2 QD. A “mixing and reading” SERS method for thiram from honey and four kinds of juice was developed from Ag@WS 2 QD, showing great promise for rapid and direct SERS detection for toxic agrochemicals and further applications.

g-C3N4 modified hollow Ag/ZrO2 core–shell composites for enhanced solar photocatalytic degradation and recyclable SERS sensing of thiram and methylene blue

Wei Zhang,Min Chen,Xinjian Cheng,Jie Yang,Jumei Li

In this study, we demonstrated an efficient solar photocatalyst, g-C 3 N 4 modified hollow Ag/ZrO 2 core–shell composites (Ag/hZrO 2 /CN) using polymethylacrylic acid (PMAA) nanospheres as sacrificial template. The optimized Ag/hZrO 2 /CN catalyst demonstrated substantial photocatalytic performance, achieving 97.6 % degradation of methylene blue (MB) and 99.5 % degradation of thiram (TRM) within 90 min under simulated sunlight using a 500 W Xe lamp. The improved property is likely attributed to the synergistic effect among three constituents and the effective segregation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in ZrO 2 , g-C 3 N 4 and Ag NPs, as confirmed by photocurrent and EIS analysis. Based on free radical scavenging studies (e − , h + , OH and O 2 − ), the mechanism underlying the boosted photocatalytic activity was suggested. Moreover, Ag/hZrO 2 /CN presented excellent surface enhanced Raman scattering activity, achieving quantitative sensing of MB and TRM with limits of detection of 5 × 10 −8 and 10 −6 mol/L, respectively, and a favorable linear correlation between SERS intensities and logarithmic concentration (R 2  ≥ 0.97). Additionally, Ag/hZrO 2 /CN accomplished recyclable SERS detection of MB and TRM through stimulated sunlight irradiation, which is significant for the recyclable SERS detecting through fast sunlight-powered procedure.

A sensitive and flexible SERS substrate using Ag@Au nanoparticle-embedded bacterial Nanocellulose for on-site detection of thiram residues in fruit peels

Yulin Xu,Qin Luo,Lichun Yang,Shenghao Zhang,Yuanbo Huang,Yan Sun,Wei Wei,Min Xie,Yongjun Hu

Sensitive, flexible and rapid SERS substrate for the on-site detection of pesticide residues on the fruit peel is of great significance. In this study, the three-dimensional nanofiber network of bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) serves as a matrix template material in the composite system. The highly antioxidative silver@gold nanoparticles (Ag@Au NPs), featuring a ∼ 45 nm diameter Ag core and an ultrathin ∼2 nm Au shell, were first synthesized via a ligand-assisted complexation approach. Subsequently, these nanoparticles were uniformly incorporated into the bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) matrix through a facile vacuum filtration method to fabricate the flexible Ag@Au NPs-BNC SERS substrate. The prepared flexible SERS substrate achieved an exceptional detection sensitivity of 5 × 10 −9  M for the detection of crystal violet (CV), excellent signal uniformity (RSD = 5.4 %), and exhibited a remarkable SERS enhancement factor of 1.19 × 10 6 . The substrate demonstrated excellent performance for detecting thiram in apple and pear peels, exhibiting a linear dynamic range of 0.1–10 ppm with ultralow detection limits (LODs: 0.0498 ppm and 0.0621 ppm, respectively), and these values are two orders of magnitude below the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's maximum residue limit (MRL: 5 ppm) for thiram in agricultural products. Remarkably, the substrate maintained stable SERS signal intensity after 57 days of ambient storage, confirming its outstanding long-term stability. The flexible Ag@Au NPs-BNC SERS substrate offers high sensitivity, excellent stability, and reliable detection of trace hazardous chemicals in real applications.
