Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is a developing technology that addresses the urgent energy shortage, without greenhouse gas emissions. Despite tremendous efforts over the past decades, the achievement of high-efficiency hydrogen evolution rates for application in semiconductors remains very challenging because of various factors, which include low charge mobility, low light absorption, and high charge carrier recombination. Nowadays, the built-in electric field of metal-semiconductor Schottky junctions exhibits significant developments to overcome the aforementioned limitations because of the enhanced charge separation and transportation efficiency. However, noble metals are scarce and unaffordable to limit the applications. As a promising alternative, the Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets showed excellent metal conductivity which is fascinating. A new Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S/Ti 3 C 2 composite was fabricated as a non-noble metal-based Schottky junction photocatalyst with enhanced H 2 production performance. For a practical exploration, this study expands its application in the realistic environment of natural seawater, which is not only more in line with the sustainable concept but also greatly alleviates the issue of limited freshwater. At present, due to the complex composition of seawater, only a few studies focus on the H 2 production of seawater. Remarkably, based on the rational design of the Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S/Ti 3 C 2 Schottky catalyst, the observed H 2 production rate of 9.071 mmol g −1 h −1 is thirty-three times higher than that of traditional Pt assisted photocatalyst in seawater.

Rechargeable magnesium batteries (rMBs) are promising techniques suitable for large-scale energy storage systems with low-cost and high safety. However, their development is severely hindered by strong coulombic effect between bivalent Mg 2+ and cathode materials . In this work, two dimensional hierarchical nano-micro hybrids are synthesized by in-situ generating VS 4 nanosheets on carbon-coated Ti 3 C 2 MXene matrix (denoted as VS 4 @Ti 3 C 2 /C). A high-performance rMB system is built by using the hierarchical nano-micro hybrids cathode, magnesium foil anode, and 0.25 M methylpyrrolidinium chloride in 0.25 M 2PhMgCl-AlCl 3 /tetrahydrofuran as the electrolyte. The existence of V–C bond proves that VS 4 is anchored on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 via a strong chemical bond, rather than simply by adsorption. The unique hierarchical nano-micro structure improves the accessibility of the electrolyte and reduces the charge transfer resistance, leading to a high discharge capacity of 492 mA h g −1 at 50 mA g −1 , an outstanding rate performance of 129 mA h g −1 at 1000 mA g −1 , and excellent cycling performance (over 900 cycles at 500 mA g −1 ). Moreover, reversible intercalation of MgCl + into VS 4 @Ti 3 C 2 /C is revealed by investigating the evolution of the hybrids during different electrochemical states. This study will shed light on designing high-performance MXene-based cathode materials for multivalent batteries.

Germanium (Ge) is a promising high-capacity anode material for lithium-ion batteries; however, its practical application remains limited by substantial volume variation, unstable interfacial reactions, and rapid capacity degradation during repeated lithiation/delithiation. In this work, a binder-free Ge/C/MXene@NF hybrid electrode was developed through a sequential fabrication process, where Ge nanoparticles were immobilized within a PVP-derived carbon matrix supported on a three-dimensional nickel-foam scaffold and subsequently integrated with a Ti3C2TxMXene conductive network to construct a hierarchical Ge/C/MXene hybrid architecture. The nickel foam provides a continuous current-collecting framework and mechanical support, while the MXene network improves electrical connectivity, electrolyte accessibility, and interfacial charge-transfer kinetics. Structural and compositional analyses further indicate the presence of PVP-derived carbon and a possible minor NiGe interfacial phase formed during annealing. Comparison with Ge@NF and the individual component electrodes provides insight into the respective contributions of MXene, Ge, and the PVP-derived carbon framework to the electrochemical behaviour of the composite electrode. Using the total deposited active-material mass as the normalisation basis, the MXene@Ge@NF electrode retains a reversible specific capacity of 789.8 mAh g−1after 100 cycles at an effective current density of 76.2 mA g−1. The observed electrochemical behaviour originates from the integrated contributions of Ge nanoparticles, the PVP-derived carbon matrix, the conductive Ti3C2TxMXene network, the three-dimensional nickel-foam scaffold, and possible Ni–Ge interfacial interactions. Rather than representing a Ge-dominated electrode, this architecture demonstrates the advantages of integrating multiple functional components within a binder-free Ge/C/MXene hybrid architecture.

Doxorubicin, as an anthracycline antibiotic, is a commonly used and effective chemotherapeutic agent for treating various malignancies. However, it has a narrow therapeutic window. Therefore, real-time monitoring of doxorubicin concentration in chemotherapy patients is essential for enhancing treatment efficacy, minimizing side effects, and ensuring patient safety. In this paper, we proposed a Ti 3 C 2 MXene-sensitized fiber surface plasmon resonance (SPR) doxorubicin sensor. By covalently functionalizing the reflective SPR sensing structure with Ti 3 C 2 MXene, the refractive index sensitivity increased by 60.0 %. Furthermore, by covalently modifying the doxorubicin-specific aptamer, the sensor achieves high sensitivity and high specificity in the detection of doxorubicin. Within the linear range of 10–100 μM, it demonstrates a sensitivity of 0.24 nm/μM and a limit of detection of 2.79 μM. Furthermore, experiments confirmed that the doxorubicin sensor exhibits excellent specificity and can be applied for the detection of doxorubicin in real serum samples. The proposed doxorubicin sensor offers benefits such as high sensitivity, high specificity, fast response, and small size, and has the potential to meet the clinical requirements for monitoring doxorubicin concentration in chemotherapy patients.

Due to inherent limitations such as high carrier recombination efficiency, limited active sites, and suboptimal utilization of visible light, graphite-like carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) has constrained its widespread application in water treatment within photocatalytic systems. In addressing this issue, the present study employed acid etching and sonochemistry to fabricate a Ti 3 C 2 -SO 3 H/g-C 3 N 4 (TiCSOHCN) composite photocatalyst for the removal of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). The amalgamation of Ti 3 C 2 -SO 3 H (TiCSOH) with g-C 3 N 4 engendered the establishment of a discernible Schottky barrier, facilitating an expedited electron transfer rate. Photocatalytic degradation experiments demonstrate that, compared to individual components, the TiCSOHCN composite photocatalyst exhibits significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity. The removal efficiency of TC reaches 75.42% within 2 h, and even after five cycles of experimentation, the degradation efficiency remains close to 70%, indicating excellent stability. The augmentation can be predominantly ascribed to the cooperative influence arising from the synergy between Ti 3 C 2 -SO 3 H and g-C 3 N 4 . The augmentation of visible light responsiveness in g-C 3 N 4 , achieved through its modification with TiCSOH, resulted in the mitigation of photoelectron-hole pair recombination, consequently leading to an amelioration in the photocatalytic efficacy of the TiCSOHCN composite catalyst. Intermediate species arising from the degradation of tetracycline were discerned utilizing LC-MS, and conjectures regarding plausible degradation pathways were postulated. Evaluations of the ecotoxicological impact of tetracycline and its intermediates indicated a progressive diminution in toxicity throughout the course of the photocatalytic degradation process. Furthermore, through free radical capture and EPR tests, it was confirmed that ·O 2 – and ·OH are the primary active species responsible for the photocatalytic degradation of TC, substantiating the proposed rational photocatalytic degradation mechanism. This research provides an innovative approach to developing high-performance and stable photocatalysts.

Hydrogen storage in the solid state is considered a key technology for developing commercial applications of hydrogen energy. With the addition of efficient nanocatalysts, magnesium (Mg) is a promising approach for overcoming the threshold for hydrogen storage materials. Mg–Ni–Ti3C2 composites were created in this study by integrating nanoscale nickel (Ni) and Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets with Mg particles using a mechanical ball milling process. Compared with incorporating Ni nanoparticles or Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets alone, the combination of Ni and Ti3C2Tx MXene enhanced the dehydrogenation performance of magnesium hydride (MgH2). The ideal combination of a rapid hydrogen uptake/release rate and high hydrogen storage capability was achieved by properly controlling the proportion of additives. The prepared Mg–2Ni/Ti3C2 composite possessed superior hydrogen storage properties, releasing 3.96 wt % hydrogen at 300 °C, whereas additive-free Mg released almost no hydrogen under the same conditions. Furthermore, Mg–2Ni/Ti3C2 absorbed 3.16 wt % hydrogen even at 275 °C. The Mg–2Ni/Ti3C2 composite exhibited a dehydrogenation activation energy of 75.0 kJ mol–1, which was 60.4 kJ mol–1 less than that of pristine Mg. After 10 cycles, 96.1% of the hydrogen capacity was retained, exhibiting a superior cycling stability. According to the catalytic mechanism study, the surprisingly enhanced hydrogen storage property of MgH2 is attributed to the “hydrogen pump” effect of Mg2Ni/Mg2NiH4 combined with the catalytic, “facilitated hydrogen pump,” and confinement roles of Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets.

The efficiency of the photocatalytic reaction is mainly determined by the effective separation of photogenerated electron (e - ) and hole (h + ). As a high electrical conductivity, two-dimensional (2D) Ti 3 C 2 MXene is widely used as an electronic transmission intermediary with a large surface area and active terminal. In this work, 1D CuZnInS are loaded on the surface of 2D Ti 3 C 2 MXene nanosheets to compound 1D/2D CuZnInS/Ti 3 C 2 nanocomposites with effective inhibition of charge-carrier recombination. The H 2 production rate of optimized 1D/2D CuZnInS/Ti 3 C 2 composite reached 15.24 mmol h −1 g −1 , which is 4.5 times than that of pure CuZnInS (3.38 mmol h −1 g −1 ), and the apparent quantum efficiencies (AQEs) of composite photocatalysts can reach 0.39% and 0.24% under light irradiation at 365 nm and 420 nm wavelength, respectively. In addition, 1D/2D CuZnInS/Ti 3 C 2 has high stability after 10 cycles. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the large specific surface area of 2D Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets, which facilitates the separation and transfer of photogenerated e - and h + pairs.

Infected bone defect repair has long been a major challenge in orthopedic surgery. Apart from bacterial contamination, excessive generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and lack of osteogenesis ability also threaten the defect repair process. However, few strategies have been proposed to address these issues simultaneously. Herein, we designed and fabricated a near-infrared (NIR)-responsive, hierarchically porous scaffold to address these limitations in a synergetic manner. In this design, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) were used to fabricate the porous PMMA/PEI scaffolds via the anti-solvent vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) process. Then, Ti3C2 MXenes were anchored on the scaffolds through the dopamine-assisted co-deposition process to obtain the PMMA/PEI/polydopamine (PDA)/MXene scaffolds. Under NIR laser irradiation, the scaffolds were able to kill bacteria through the direct contact-killing and synergetic photothermal effect of Ti3C2 MXenes and PDA. Moreover, MXenes and PDA also endowed the scaffolds with excellent ROS-scavenging capacity and satisfying osteogenesis ability. Our experimental results also confirmed that the PMMA/PEI/PDA/MXene scaffolds significantly promoted new bone formation in an infected mandibular defect model. We believe that our study provides new insights into the treatment of infected bone defects.

Quantitative detection of veterinary drug residues in animal-derived food is of great significance. In this work, a simple and label-free electrochemical aptasensor for the highly sensitive detection of chloramphenicol (CAP) in milk was successfully developed based on a new biosensing method, where the single- or few-layer Ti3C2MXene nanosheets functionalized via the specific aptamer by self-assembly were used as electrode modifiers for a glassy carbon electrode (aptamer/Ti3C2MXene/GCE). Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), and so on were utilized for electrochemical and morphological characterization. Under the optimized conditions, the constructed aptasensor exhibited excellent performance with a wider linearity to CAP in the range from 10 fM to 1 μM and a low detection limit of 1 fM. Aptamer/Ti3C2MXene/GCE demonstrated remarkable selectivity over other potentially interfering antibiotics, as well as exceptional reproducibility and stability. In addition, the aptasensor was successfully applied to determine CAP in milk with acceptable recovery values of 96.13% to 108.15% and relative standard deviations below 9%. Therefore, the proposed electrochemical aptasensor is an excellent alternative for determining CAP in food samples.Keywords:label-free;electrochemical aptasensor;chloramphenicol;Ti3C2MXene nanosheets

Herein, a novel zinc oxide (ZnO) hexagonal cap with exposed polar facets/MXene composite was synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method . The analysis of the morphology and structure of these composites as well as the results of photochemical property measurements showed that a heterojunction was formed between ZnO and MXene . After testing the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange, the ZnO hexagonal cap with 3 mL MXene showed the highest photodegradation efficiency of 87.8 % within 60 min under a xenon lamp. Active species capture experiments showed that •OH and h + species were the main contributors to the degradation of methyl orange (MO). We proposed a possible mechanism for the excellent photocatalytic activity of ZnO hexagonal cap@Ti 3 C 2 MXene. The Schottky barrier hindering the photogenerated electron recombination, the hexagonal cap morphology with highly active exposed facets, and the hollow structure favoring the adsorption of contaminants were all beneficial to achieve a high catalytic activity. This work provides new insight into the design of metal oxide/MXene photocatalysts .

Co-catalysts can achieve efficient separation of photogenerated carriers and are considered as a promising strategy for solar photocatalytic removal of pollutants. Herein, we reported the synthesis of nanocomposite of BiOIO 3 /Ti 3 C 2 MXene combining two dimensional 2D BiOIO 3 with 2D Ti 3 C 2 MXene co-catalyst. The few-layered 2D Ti 3 C 2 MXene provided more adsorption and reaction sites. Furthermore, the synergism of intimate interfacial contact between the two 2D nanosheets and robust metallic electrical conductivity of Ti 3 C 2 MXene significantly accelerated the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers. A variety of organic pollutants were proved to be effectively degraded by 2D/2D BiOIO 3 /Ti 3 C 2 MXene composites. The degradation efficiencies followed the order tetracycline hydrochloride (93.4 %) > diclofenac sodium (87.6 %) > levofloxacin hydrochloride (77.4 %) > 4-nitrophenol (43.3%). Besides, the satisfactory recycling and stability of BiOIO 3 /Ti 3 C 2 MXene for the degradation of organic pollutants in water under solar irradiation predicted its good prospect for practical applications.

High-resolution electrochemical sensors with excellent sensitivity and selectivity are urgently needed for simultaneous monitoring of heavy metal ions (HMIs) in the environment. In this study, a nitrogen-doped carbon-coated Ti 3 C 2 -MXene heterostructure (Ti 3 C 2 @N-C)-based electrochemical sensor was developed for simultaneously determining (Cd 2+ ) and (Pb 2+ ) in seawater and tap water via square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). The sensor exhibits excellent performance with a low limit of detection (LOD) (Cd 2+ 2.55 nM, Pb 2+ 1.10 nM), as well as excellent selectivity in the presence of interfering ions (Zn 2+ , Fe 3+ , Fe 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Mn 2+ , Cu + , Cu 2+ , and K + ) and high resolution for simultaneous detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ . The N-C and Ti 3 C 2 -MXene heterostructure improves the conductivity of the composites by accelerating the electron transfer. The nitrogen-doping in Ti 3 C 2 @N-C provides adsorbent sites for electrons to coordinate with HMIs. Due to the heterostructure and the coordination by nitrogen, the interface charge transfer is enhanced and the number of selective adsorption sites is increased, improving the metals determination performance. This study proposes a new strategy for improving the electrochemical characteristics of Ti 3 C 2 -MXene by using heterostructure and nitrogen-doping effect, and develops a highly sensitive sensor for selective and simultaneous determination of HMIs.
