Bi 0.95 Ni 0.05 VO 3.975 with flower-like structure was prepared by the hydrothermal method. Mixed potential type NH 3 sensors were fabricated using Bi 0.95 Ni 0.05 VO 3.975 as sensing electrode and La 10 Si 5.5 Al 0.5 O 27 as electrolyte. The sensing performance of the sensors was tested in the temperature range of 500–650 °C. The test results show that the sensor exhibits excellent NH 3 sensing performance. The response signals linearly depend on the logarithm of the NH 3 concentrations. The sensor also shows a good stability and reproducibility. The sensor displays a good anti-interference ability to CO 2 , H 2 and CH 4 . However, NO 2 leads to a great influence on the response potential of the sensor. The effect of introduction of Ag into sensing electrode on sensor performances was investigated. Compared with the sensor based on Bi 0.95 Ni 0.05 VO 3.975 , the sensor with the Ag modified Bi 0.95 Ni 0.05 VO 3.975 sensing electrode shows much higher sensitivities. More importantly, the interference from NO 2 is completely eliminated and the selectivity of the sensor is significantly improved, which can be attributed to the NO 2 adsorption ability of the sensing material being depressed by the introduction of Ag. This strategy provides a new idea to improve the selectivity of NH 3 sensor besides sensitivity.

A novel polypyrrole-based aerogel (PPA) with a three-dimensional structure is synthesized through a simple hydrothermal process of homogeneous dispersion consisting of pyrrole and a block copolymer, followed by freeze-drying. The block copolymer plays the role of dispersant, which can be ascribed to the hydrophilic–hydrophobic interaction between pyrrole-based units and the block copolymer. Compared with a conventional bulk polypyrrole powder, the PPA exhibits higher porous attributes, which provide favorable conditions to the subsequent activation procedure. A nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NPC) with high porosity is then prepared after a physical activation treatment of PPA using carbon dioxide as an activation agent. The structure and porous property of the NPC are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption–desorption experiments. The as-made NPC-950-100 possesses a large Brunauer–Emmett–Teller specific surface area (2330 m2 g–1), large pore volume (2.54 cm3 g–1), and nitrogen doping (4.1 wt %). These properties result in a high carbon dioxide uptake capacity of 20.5 wt % at 273 K and 1.0 bar. Furthermore, NPC-950-60 also displays a decent specific capacitance (156 F g–1 at 0.1 A g–1) and an excellent long-term cycling stability (∼100% capacitance retention at 5 A g–1 after 10000 cycles).

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are the main source of indoor pollution. Inhalation of excess VOC gas will cause respiratory system damage. Therefore, VOC gas detection is essential for environment monitoring. In this article, an optical fiber device for rapid detection of VOC gas was proposed. Rhodamine 6G (R6G) was taken as the fluorescence indicator. The VOC gas sensor was designed for the modulation of aggregation-caused quenching of R6G. The sensing device was fabricated with three simple steps: in the first step, a multimode fiber was tapered; in the second step, the hydrogel was coated on the tapered fiber tip; and in the last step, aggregated R6G was loaded in the hydrogel. When the senor was probed into a VOC gas chamber, the gas molecules penetrated into the hydrogel and deaggregated the R6G dimer, and then, the fluorescence of R6G was strengthened. With this spectrum change, the concentration of VOC gas could be obtained. Compared with other fiber devices for VOC gas detections, the proposed sensor has the advantages of single-end, low cost, simple preparation, fast response, and large detection range, which means a great potential for in situ detecting applications.

We present a 3D-printed stackable miniature membrane reactor to handle gas–liquid-solid reactions effectively and showcase its application in the synthesis of alkylaluminoxanes. The combination of membrane dispersion and microreaction techniques allows for better process control of the ultrafast and highly exothermic reactions of alkylaluminums hydrolysis with pyrophoric reactants. Droplet generation experiments guide the optimization of the reactor structure and operating parameters, highlighting its ability to produce clustered microdroplets with a narrow size distribution and minimal energy consumption. Our visualized reactor design provides insights into the transient characteristics of alkylaluminoxanes formation, improving understanding of the complex chemistries and achieving room-temperature synthesis of highly active methylaluminoxane (MAO) and isobutylaluminoxane (IBAO) for ethylene polymerization. When scaled up, our compact and integrated five-layer stacked reactor demonstrates uniform flow distribution and consistent reaction performance among all layers, achieving an impressive production rate exceeding ten tons/year. Our work demonstrates a versatile membrane microreaction platform for the scalable and inherently safe production of highly reactive materials, offering a promising approach for other challenging chemical synthesis applications.

DNA methylation is one of the major epigenetic modifications and has been involved in a number of biological processes in mammalian cells. Yeast is widely used as a model organism for studying cell metabolism, cell cycle regulation, and signal transduction. However, it remains controversial whether methylated cytosine (5-methylcytosine, 5mC) exists in the yeast genome. In the current study, we developed a highly sensitive method based on gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and systematically examined the incidence of 5mC in 19 yeast strains, which represent 16 yeast species. Our results showed that DNA methylation is widespread in yeast and the genome-wide DNA methylation of the studied yeast strains ranged from 0.014 to 0.364%, which were 1 to 2 orders of magnitude lower than that in mammalian cells (i.e., 3–8%). Furthermore, we found that the 5mC content in yeast varied considerably at different growth stages and DNA methylation inhibitor 5-azacytidine could induce a decrease in genome-wide DNA methylation as that in mammalian cells. The demonstration of the universal presence of DNA cytosine methylation in yeast constituted the first and essential step toward understanding the functions of this methylation in yeast.

Gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) show great potential to improve the current densities of the industrial electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (eCO2RR). The triple-phase boundary (TPB) in GDEs is the key for promoted reaction kinetics, yet such a reaction interface typically suffers from rapid degradation due to electrolyte flooding and salt precipitation. Herein, we demonstrate that a GDE modified with liquid perfluorocarbon (PFC) would notably prolong the lifespan of the GDE with a Bi catalyst in flow-cell electrolyzers. PFC with superhydrophobicity and high CO2 solubility would construct a liquid–solid–liquid reaction interface that prevents the intrusion of electrolytes into the microporous layer (MPL) without hampering the mass transport of CO2. Our work demonstrates an effective strategy to construct a robust and efficient electrochemical reaction interface for the eCO2RR with improved stability for potential industrial applications.

In order to overcome the defects of opacity, high gas permeability, poor heat and solvent oil resistance of methyl silicone rubber, optically transparent trifluoropropyl phenyl silicone rubber was prepared by introducing trifluoropropyl and phenyl to organic silicone molecules. Then organic polysilazane (OPSZ) was coated on the trifluoropropyl phenyl silicone rubber surface with tetramethylhexamethylenediamine as a catalyst and a dense coating with low gas permeability was achieved. This process realized low-temperature curing and siliceous transition. At the same time, optical performance, mechanical properties, oxygen permeation flux, and anti-sulfuration were measured. The results showed that the fluorine-containing phenyl silicone rubber had good optical transparency, tensile strength, elongation at break, tear strength, oil resistance and heat resistance. The OPSZ coating surface was continuous, uniform, dense and free of cracks and voids; meanwhile, the coating section was dense, uniform, seamless, without cracks. The interface between the coating and the silicone rubber exhibited good adhesion. Light transmission was over 92% between 400 and 800 nm. When the coating thickness was more than 12 μm, the oxygen permeation flux remained unchanged, lamps had good anti-sulfuration ability, and luminous flux was maintained at over 99.8%. when the mass fraction of tetramethyl hexamethylene diamine (w) was over 5%, siliceous transition was achieved under room temperature and 50% relative humidity for 24 h.

Drug thrombolysis is the main means of clinical treatment for thrombotic-related diseases. However, serious bleeding complications caused by low drug delivery efficiency and secondary vascular embolism usually lead to unsatisfactory therapeutic effects. Herein, we constructed a thrombin and near-infrared (NIR) dual-responsive drug-loaded intelligent system to solve the above problems. The CREKA-modified polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles (NPs) were crosslinked by thrombin-responsive peptide (Pep), to obtain Pep-PPC nanocarriers with special mesoporous nanostructures. Subsequently, NO donor BNN6 and thrombolytic drug UK were loaded on the surface and into the mesoporous of Pep-PPC, to get the multifunctional Pep-NO@PPC/UK. In vitro and in vivo results proved that Pep-NO@PPC/UK could effectively recognize and aggregate at the thrombus site via CREKA-mediated active targeting. Then local abundant thrombin cleaved the nanoplatform to release UK. Meanwhile, PDA converted NIR light into heat and synchronously triggered NO release. This transformed the DDS into a “heat-gas” dual propulsion nanomotor in situ, driving deep penetration of UK in thrombus tissue. Under the combined action of UK and PTT, arterial thrombosis rapidly dissolved with relatively low bleeding risk. More importantly, NO generated in situ could prevent re-embolism of blood vessels at the thrombolytic site by inhibiting activated platelet aggregation, ultimately improving vascular reperfusion rate through a combination of attack and defense mode.

Recently, MoSe 2 has exhibited limited development in the field of gas sensors owing to its low sensitivity and slow response/recovery. Herein, various noble metals (Pt, Pd, and Ag) were employed to dope the MoSe 2 nanoflower for enhancing its sensing capability to NO 2 . Compared to Ag and Pd modification, the Pt doped-MoSe 2 sensor displayed higher sensitivity, faster response rate, and better selectivity. Moreover, the 2.5 %Pt-MoSe 2 sensor had a large sensitivity of 2.45 to 32 ppm NO 2 , good repeatability, and a low detection limit of 0.1 ppm at 110 °C. The improvement in the gas-sensing response can be attributed to the spillover effect and catalytic sensitization of Pt. Moreover, the first principle calculations for the adsorption energy and density of states have confirmed that the MoSe 2 material can adsorb NO 2 more effectively by Pt doping. The Pt-decorated MoSe 2 material exhibits a promising prospect in the field of NO 2 gas detection.

An ammonia (NH 3 ) sensor with high sensitivity based on indium-doped cerium oxide (In/CeO 2 ) was prepared by hydrothermal method , and its sensing mechanism was revealed by first-principles. Experimental results show that indium ion (In 3+ ) doping can effectually increase the sensitivity of NH 3 sensor based on CeO 2 , which is mainly attributed to the enhancement in the number of oxygen vacancies and oxygen free radicals on the surface of In/CeO 2 . In/CeO 2 sensor for NH 3 with a response value of 5412.93 at a concentration of 1000 ppm, which is 65 times that of CeO 2 sensor. Moreover, the low detection limit (LOD) of In/CeO 2 is 0.433 ppm and its response/recovery time to 5 ppm NH 3 is 1.1 s/1.4 s. Furthermore, the density functional theory (DFT) calculation confirmed that NH 3 has higher adsorption-induced charge transfer and adsorption energy on the surface of In/CeO 2 than other gases. This makes it easier for In/CeO 2 to adsorb NH 3 molecules and release more conduction electrons, thus improving the performance of In/CeO 2 . In addition, In/CeO 2 sensor can be effectively used to detect the freshness of tofu through the concentration of NH 3 released by the tofu in different storage environments. This work is beneficial to the safety monitoring of high protein food.

Plants exhibit rapid responses to biotic and abiotic stresses by releasing a range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Monitoring changes in these VOCs holds the potential for the early detection of plant diseases. This study proposes a method for identifying late blight in potatoes based on the detection of (E) -2-hexenal, one of the major VOC markers released during plant infection by Phytophthora infestans . By combining the Michael addition reaction with cysteine-mediated etching of aggregation-induced emission gold nanoclusters (Au NCs), we have developed a portable hydrogel kit for on-site detection of (E) -2-hexenal. The Michael addition reaction between (E) -2-hexenal and cysteine effectively alleviates the etching of cysteine-mediated Au NCs, leading to a distinct fluorescence color change in the Au NCs, enabling a detection limit of 0.61 ppm. Utilizing the superior loading and diffusion characteristics of the three-dimensional structure of agarose hydrogel, our sensor demonstrated exceptional performance in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, reaction time, and ease of use. Moreover, quantitative measurement of (E) -2-hexenal was made easier by using ImageJ software to transform fluorescent images from the hydrogel kit into digital data. Such method was effectively used for the early detection of potato late blight. This study presents a low-cost, portable fluorescent analytical tool, offering a new avenue for on-site detection of plant diseases.

In this study, a framework for predicting the gas-sensitive properties of gas-sensitive materials by combining machine learning and density functional theory (DFT) has been proposed. The framework rapidly predicts the gas response of materials by establishing relationships between multisource physical parameters and gas-sensitive properties. In order to prove its effectiveness, the perovskite Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 has been selected as the representative material. The physical parameters before and after the adsorption of various gases have been calculated using DFT, and then a machine learning model has been trained based on these parameters. Previous studies have shown that a single physical parameter alone is not enough to accurately predict the gas sensitivity of materials. Therefore, a variety of physical parameters have been selected for machine learning, and the final machine learning model achieved 92% accuracy in predicting gas sensitivity. It is important to note that although there have been no previous reports on the response of Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 to hydrogen sulfide, the resulting model predicts the gas response of H 2 S; it is subsequently confirmed experimentally. This method not only enhances the understanding of the gas sensing mechanism, but also has a universal nature, making it suitable for the development of various new gas-sensitive materials.
