A reliable and non-invasive electrochemical immunosensor for nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) was presented based on reduced graphene oxide-tetraethylenepentamine (rGO-TEPA) and gold nanoparticles‑platinum nanoparticles-metal organic frameworks (AuNPs-PtNPs-MOFs) nanomaterial . rGO-TEPA is a promising template to enhance the loading ability of electrode for its large specific surface area and abundance in amino groups. AuNPs-PtNPs-MOFs nanomaterial was synthesized by NaBH 4 reduction method and applied to immobilize biomolecules due to their good biocompatibility, well conductivity , and excellent H 2 O 2 electrocatalytic ability. The electrochemical response signal was primarily originated from the obstruction of immobilized NMP22 antigen towards electrocatalytic reduction of H 2 O 2 and the signal was recorded by differential pulse voltammetry . Under optimum conditions, the immunosensor showed a sensitive response towards NMP22 at a broad concentration range from 0.005 ng·mL −1 to 20 ng·mL −1 . Two strong linear ranges could be observed at 0.005 ng·mL −1 to 0.5 ng·mL −1 (R 2 = 0.9833), and 0.5 ng·mL −1 to 20 ng·mL −1 (R 2 = 0.9909), with a low LOD of 1.7 pg·mL −1 (S/N = 3). Satisfactory reproducibility, stability and selectivity were obtained for NMP22 detection in real urine samples compared with standard ELISA assay, demonstrating the good analytical performance and potential non-invasive clinical application of this label-free electrochemical immunosensor.

In this work, hollow nanobox metal-organic framework (HNM) nanocomposites were synthesised and utilised for the first time in a signal decreased electrochemical immunosensor for the ultrasensitive quantitative determination of lymphocyte activation gene-3 (LAG-3) protein, which is a newly discovered biomarker. With the aid of signal materials, namely, SiO 2 -tagged anti-LAG-3 antibody (SiO 2 -Ab 2 ) and the biotin-streptavidin system, the sensor can achieve signal amplification . Encapsulation of tin dioxide-functionalised reduced graphene oxide (rGO-SnO 2 ) and gold and platinum alloys (AuPt alloys) onto the surface of hollow nanobox metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) was performed to prepare rGO-SnO 2 /hollow nanobox-MOFs/AuPt alloys (rGO-SnO 2 /HNMs/AuPt) as the matrix. SiO 2 -Ab 2 , which is used as the signal-decreased label, can be utilised to enhance the distinction of the electrochemical signal after the specific recognition between antibodies and antigens, owing to its large steric hindrance property. In this sensor, this proposed sandwich immunosensor can achieve a high sensitivity, especially in the presence of low concentrations of the LAG-3 protein. Under optimal conditions, this sandwich-designed immunosensor exhibited a sensitive detection of the LAG-3 protein from concentrations of 0.01 ng mL −1 to 1 μg mL −1 , with a lower detection limit of 1.1 pg mL −1 (based on 3σ). We proposed that this ultrasensitive biosensor can be utilised for the detection of the LAG-3 protein in early clinical tumour diagnosis.

Due to their controllable morphologies, tunable porous structures, diverse compositions and easy fabrication, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are an ideal class of precursor material to develop high performance carbon-based materials for energy applications. In this work, two-dimensional (2D) Co/Ni MOFs nanosheets with a molar ratio of Co2+ to Ni2+ of 1 : 1 were first synthesized at room temperature using thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate (Tdc) and 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-Bpy) as organic linkers. As a precursor material, the as-synthesized 2D Co/Ni MOFs nanosheets were further pyrolized at 550 °C in N2 atmosphere to incorporate 2D CoNi alloy nanoparticles into S, N-doped carbon nanosheets (CoNi@SNC) with a surface area of 224 m2 g−1, a porous structure, and good conductivity. Interestingly, it was found that the 2D Co/Ni MOFs nanosheets can be directly used as electrode materials for supercapacitors, delivering a specific capacitance of 312 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, whereas CoNi@SNC derived from its MOFs precursor as an electrode material for supercapacitors exhibits a much higher specific capacitance (1970, 1897 and 1730 F g−1 at 1, 2, 5 A g−1, respectively) with long cycling life (retaining 95.1% of the value at 10 A g−1 after 3000 cycles) and excellent rate capability at a high charge/discharge current. Further, an asymmetric supercapacitor device was constructed with CoNi@SNC as the positive electrode and active carbon as the negative electrode, exhibiting an energy density of 55.7 W h kg−1 at a power density of 0.8 kW kg−1 with lifetime stability up to 4000 charge–discharge cycles (capacitance retention of ∼90.6%). The results demonstrate that electrochemical activation-generated CoNi oxides/oxyhydroxides on the surface of the CoNi alloy nanoparticles in alkaline electrolyte during electrochemical measurements are the electrochemical active species of the CoNi@SNC-constructed supercapacitor. Additionally, the high performance of the CoNi@SNC-constructed supercapacitor can be collectively attributed to its relatively high surface area, which is favourable for the exposure of electrochemical active sites; its porous structure, which promotes redox-related mass transport; and the combination of CoNi alloy nanoparticles with graphitic carbon, which functions as an electron collector to improve electron transfer.

A facile method for fabrication of In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 @palygorskite composites from a Co/In-based metal-organic framework (MOF) was reported. First, Co/In-MOFs hybridized with palygorskite (PAL) was prepared via a one-pot solvothermal method. Second, In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 @PAL composites were obtained by pyrolysis of In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 @PAL in air. It was found that the In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 @PAL composite exhibited higher photocatalytic activities than In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 to the degradation of MB and TC under visible-light irradiation. About 99% of MB (within 40 min) and 80% of TC (within 120 min) were degraded using In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 @5.0%PAL as catalyst. It was supposed that the efficient adsorption of MB and TC, and electrostatic interactions between electron–hole and PAL were responsible for such improvement. The photocatalytic degradation mechanisms of MB and TC on the In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 @PAL were investigated. This work shows that hybridization MOFs with PAL could enhance the photocatalytic properties of MOFs-derived metal oxides for water treatment.

Rapid and accurate field testing for oxytetracycline (OTC) is crucial for ensuring food safety and monitoring environmental pollution. Herein, we report the construction of an aggregation-induced emission metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-mediated molecularly imprinted ratio metric fluorescent sensor (AIE/Eu@MIPs) for the rapid and selective detection of OTC with high sensitivity. AIE MOFs with ultra-high quantum yield were utilized as the blue fluorescence emission carriers, thus avoiding any compromise between convenience and cost-effectiveness. The detection sensitivity was significantly enhanced by modifying the fluorescence signals, driven by the combined effects of the inner filter effect (IFE) and antenna effect (AE). The detection limit was as low as 21 nM (about 9.67 μg/kg). More importantly, a portable optical sensing platform integrating AIE/Eu@MIPs was developed for visual detection of OTC. The developed probe and portable device-based sensing platform demonstrate considerable potential for on-site detection of OTC in real-world applications.

The In 2.77 S 4 /In-MOFs Z-scheme heterojunction composite photocatalysts were successfully synthesized via an insitu hydrothermal growth method. The chemical structure, morphology, optical properties, and photogenerated carriers transfer behavior of the as-prepared In 2.77 S 4 /In-MOFs composites were characterized in details. The In 2.77 S 4 /In-MOFs (10 wt%) composite showed the optimal photocatalytic degradation efficiency of 95.9% in 90 min for the tetracycline (TC) model pollutant, which was significantly higher than that of pure In 2.77 S 4 (75.1%) and In-MOFs (9.7%). The X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), photoelectrochemical, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique were carried out to illuminate the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of In 2.77 S 4 /In-MOFs (10 wt%) for TC, which showed that the Z-scheme heterojunction structure of In 2.77 S 4 /In-MOFs (10 wt%) could reinforced the light harvesting capacity and promote the photogenerated carrier migration under visible light irradiation. Furthermore, the photogenerated holes play a major role during the photocatalytic degradation reaction. Finally, this work maybe offers an effective method for the designing In 2.77 S 4 -based Z-scheme heterojunctions to facilitate the charge carrier transfer in heterogeneous catalysts.

The conversion of CO 2 to cyclic carbonates is a promising approach for chemical fixation of CO 2 and the development of robust catalysts is still a big challenge. This work suggested ionic liquids (ILs)-based ionic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) using a bisimidazole-based IL as organic link. The introduction of ILs made the ionic MOFs dual active center catalysts (ILs and metal ions). Experiments indicated that the catalytic activity of the ionic MOFs using indium ion (In 3 + ) as metal center was superior to that of those with zinc ion (Zn 2+ ) as metal node due to the stronger electrophilicity of In 3+ than Zn 2+ , making In-based ionic MOFs more effectively activate the epoxide ring, which was verified by the results of theoretical calculations. Moreover, a high chloropropene carbonate yield (98.1 %) could be obtained without the addition of co-catalysts under the optimum conditions (0.1 MPa CO 2 , 5.4 % catalyst, 80 °C for 7 h).

In recent years, metal–organic framework materials (MOFs) have garnered significant attention in the field of metal corrosion protection. In this study, novel Co-MOFs were synthesized using cobalt nitrate as the metal source and 4,4′-bipyridine as the organic ligand. A one-step solvothermal method was employed to synthesize a black MOFs/LDH composite coating, integrating corrosion resistance, friction reduction, and hydrophobicity into a single coating. The successful reaction between metal ions and organic ligands was confirmed through FTIR, FE-SEM, EDX, XRD, and XPS characterization tests. Cross-sectional SEM and EDX analyses demonstrated the successful synthesis of the coating. Electrochemical tests indicated that after 14 days of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl, the composite coating exhibited the lowest corrosion current of 2.23 × 10 −9 A∙cm −2 , outperforming the aluminum substrate (5.99 × 10 −6 A∙cm −2 ) and anodized aluminum (7.08 × 10 −7 A∙cm −2 ). Hydrophobicity tests showed that without additional modification with low surface energy substances, the composite coating had a contact angle of 154.7°, demonstrating excellent hydrophobicity. Tribological tests revealed that the composite coating exhibited superior tribological performance, with a friction coefficient of 0.3.

Developing innovative, efficient, and economical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts for zinc-air batteries (ZABs) is critical but challenging, and biomimetic-designed hybrid catalysts stand out. In this work, the hierarchical N-doped carbon nanofibers (Ru@FeZn-HNC/CNFs) anchored by ultra-small Ru nanoparticles (NPs) was achieved by covalent organic framework/metal organic framework (COF/MOF) template approach combined with electrospinning technology, which exhibits a unique and stable biomimetic “branch and leaf” morphology. This distinctive biomimetic architecture not only facilitates fast charge transfer and mass transport, but also exposes more active sites (Ru NPs, M-N x , and active N species). It is possible to remarkably reduce the Ru content without sacrificing ORR activity, thus ensuring cost-effectiveness. Specifically, the synthesized catalyst presents impressive limiting current density (J L = 6.15 mA cm −2 ), outstanding half-wave potential (E 1/2 = 0.85 V), high 4e − selectivity (H 2 O 2 yield <2 %) and distinguished durability (94.7 % current retention after 20 h) at low Ru loading, surpassing the state-of-art Pt/C catalyst. Furthermore, the aqueous/solid-state ZABs assembled by Ru@FeZn-HNC/CNFs perform significantly better open-circuit voltage (1.48 V and 1.41 V), power density (175 mW cm −2 and 86.9 mW cm −2 ), specific capacity (810.2 mAh g Zn −1 and 720.2 mAh g Zn −1 ), and long-term cycling durability (> 300 h and 1000 min) than Pt/C-based counterparts. Intriguingly, Ru@FeZn-HNC/CNFs-based flexible ZABs demonstrate satisfactory foldability and mechanical stability. This study evidences the feasibility of Ru@FeZn-HNC/CNFs catalyst employed as air cathode of ZABs, and opens up a new avenue for the exploration of flexible wearable energy supply devices.

Aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1 ) is a potent carcinogen which threatens human health, therefore, rapid and efficient detection of AFB 1 is highly needed. Herein, a novel turn-on ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobe (RhB@NH 2 -MIL-53(Al)) was fabricated via a facial grinding for sensing AFB 1 . With increasing AFB 1 concentration, the fluorescence of Al-MOFs was enhanced due to molecular clamp action and electron transport, while the fluorescence of RhB remained almost unchanged, thus obtaining limit of detection (LOD) of 4.16 nM in the range of 0.005–2.56 µM. The sensor demonstrated excellent anti-interference capabilities and gave reasonable results when used to measure AFB 1 in grains. In addition, a paper-based portable sensor for AFB 1 detection was developed with a LOD of 29.89 nM in the range of 0.04–12.8 µM, while the colour changes from light pink to blue upon UV light exposure, making it a straightforward and effective technique for the on-site determination of AFB 1 . To address the limitations of natural enzymes, more and more artificial enzymes have been developed. As the most appropriate candidate, metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOFs-based derivatives have generated extensive interest due to their remarkable properties and potential applications in enzymes mimicry. In this work, Ce/Cu mixed metal oxides-carbon composite (CeCuO x /C) was synthesized through a simple oxidation method with bimetallic MOFs CeCu-BTC as precursors. It was found that the prepared CeCuO x /C possess four different enzyme-like activities, including peroxidase, oxidase, laccase and phosphatase mimetic activities. The kinetics parameters and potential influence factors of enzyme-like activities were studied and CeCuO x /C exhibited high catalytic activity, excellent stability, and reusability. Additionally, a cysteine detecting method was established via oxidase-like activity of CeCuO x /C. The linear response to the cysteine was in the range of 50 to 900 μM, and the limit of detection was 3.24 μM. The spiking recoveries were in the range 93.5–100.2 % for cysteine in artificial human urine samples and the relative standard deviations were found within the ranges of 1.2–2.9 %. This work presents a new approach for the design of multi-enzyme mimics and develops the potential of CeCuO x /C for biological sensing.

This study introduces a new electrochemical sensor for bisphenol A (BPA) and metal ions utilizing a microsphere dual-ligand Ni-based MOFs modified carbon paste. The MOFs (Ni-bipy-btc) synthesized from dual-ligands were prepared via a hydrothermal method and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), FT-IR spectrometer, X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS), and specific surface area test (BET) analysis. The resulting MOFs exhibited promising performance as electrode materials for electrochemical sensors targeting the detection of BPA and heavy metal ions (Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ ). The linear range of the MOFs (Ni-bipy-btc)/CPE electrode for BPA detection ranged from 0.2 to 150 μM, with a detection limit of 0.045 μM, demonstrating robust immunity and stability. Additionally, the limit of detection for the MOFs (Ni-bipy-btc)/CPE electrode was found to be 4.3 and 9.5 nM for Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ ions, respectively, showcasing excellent stability and reproducibility. This study presents a straightforward approach for the highly sensitive electrochemical detection of BPA and heavy metal ions using a simple hydrothermal reaction method.
