Separator design can improve electrolyte wetting, ion transport and dimensional stability in lithium metal cells with LiFePO 4 cathodes. Here, an Fe–Ti metal–organic framework (MOF) was prepared by a solvothermal route and incorporated into poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) nanofiber membranes by electrospinning. The effects of filler loading were evaluated against pristine PVDF-HFP and a commercial Celgard separator. Among the investigated compositions, PVDF-HFP/MOF-10 exhibited an electrolyte contact angle of 18°, an ionic conductivity of 1.7 × 10⁻ 3 S cm⁻ 1 at 30 °C, and an apparent Li⁺ transference number of 0.56 under the Bruce–Vincent measurement protocol. The composite also showed improved thermal dimensional stability. Li‖Li cells operated for over 500 h at 1 mA cm⁻ 2 and 1 mAh cm⁻ 2 , while LiFePO 4 ‖Li cells retained 92.3% of their initial discharge capacity after 500 cycles at 1 C. These observations support the use of the composite separator for improving performance under the tested conditions. Adsorption calculations provide a possible molecular explanation for electrolyte affinity, but do not establish ion desolvation, selective anion immobilization or a unique bimetallic synergy in the operating electrolyte. The contribution is the integration and loading optimization of an Fe–Ti MOF within a porous PVDF-HFP separator, with the microscopic transport mechanism remaining to be resolved.

The rapid development of flexible electronics offers new opportunities for wearable sensors, among which piezoelectric materials are attractive due to their ability to generate electrical signals without external power. However, traditional piezoelectric sensors face challenges, including single-mode signals, low sensitivity under dynamic strain, and mechanical mismatch with soft tissues. Herein, we address these limitations through the primary innovation of a stretchable dual-mode sensor that uniquely integrates a high-performance piezoelectric composite of polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene copolymer (PVDF-TrFE) and gallium‑indium eutectic liquid metal (EGaIn) with a mechanochromic visualization layer. Through the combined action of electrospinning, annealing, and liquid metal addition, the β -phase crystallization increased significantly from 36.4 % to 80.0 %, improving the piezoelectric performance. By integrating a mechanochromic liquid crystal elastomer layer, the sensor provides dual-mode feedback: electrical signals serve as data for quantitative analysis, while the corresponding color changes offer intuitive, real-time visual feedback. The latter can also be quantified via its G/B ratio, thereby enabling robust complementarity and cross-validation. The sensor's excellent performance makes it an ideal choice for applications such as voice recognition, gait analysis, and joint rehabilitation monitoring. This work establishes a platform for developing intelligent systems that combine machine-readable precision with human-interpretable feedback, catering to advanced medical and wearable devices.

Membrane fouling is a major problem in membrane bioreactors (MBRs). In this study, membrane fouling caused by membrane rejection and adsorption was study. Filtration tests indicated that membrane rejected SMP, causing membrane pore blockage and then forming a gel layer. Batch adsorption experiments showed that adsorption of SMP onto PVDF membrane was a spontaneous physical adsorption process. Meanwhile, the absolute value Δ G of adsorption of SMP onto D3520 was higher than that of adsorption of SMP onto PVDF membrane, so SMP preferentially adsorbed onto D3520 rather than PVDF membrane. Thus, the effect of ARs on reducing the SMP concentration was investigated. It was found that, 6 g of D3520 was suitable for adsorption of SMP. This physical adsorption involved external film diffusion, intra-particle diffusion, and surface adsorption. The Redlich–Peterson isotherm model performed best in terms of describing this equilibrium data. The mechanism of membrane fouling mitigation was verified by MBR simulation system. A case study of AR–MBR system was conducted. The results showed that addition of D3520 can effectively alleviate the development of membrane fouling.

In order to effectively solve the two major problems of photocatalyst recovery and membrane fouling , this research combines photocatalyst and membrane separation technology . In this study, the NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe)/CDs@GO material with good photocatalytic properties was synthesized by hydrothermal method and mechanical stirring, and the photocatalytic membrane was obtained by vacuum filtration. The results show that the NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe)/CDs@GO membrane can effectively intercept and degrade methylene blue (MB). After 10 cycles, the rejection rate of MB can still reach 99.5%, which is about 2.5 times of pure GO membrane (40%). After 15 min of visible light irradiation, the Flux recovery rate (FRR) of NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe)/CDs@GO membrane can reach 95%, and the antifouling performance is excellent. In this study, the composite photocatalytic membrane shows excellent stability, photocatalytic performance and self-cleaning property, which is conducive to widening the application prospect of wastewater treatment .

Peroxide-induced dynamic vulcanization of poly (vinylidene fluoride)/silicone rubber (PVDF/SR) blends was studied in this paper. We controlled the size of rubber particles by changing the rotor speed , and discussed the influence of shearing on the particle diameter and the particle diameter polydispersity ( d p ). The size of SR particle was confirmed to be decreased with increasing the rotor speed. However, a good matching degree of shearing and crosslinking rate helped the SR phase to achieve a uniform crosslinking, as well as a narrow d p . In this particular PVDF/SR system, the suitable rotor speed was found to be 90 rpm, at which the d p reached a minimum of 1.1981 and 1.1614 for the P9S1 and the P7S3, respectively. At last, we discussed the influences of the macroscopic breaking energy ( E dk ) and the coalescence ( P ) on the number-average particle diameter ( D n ) of the SR. This work is thus devoted to construct a model for predicting the particle size in dynamic vulcanization of PVDF/SR blends.

In the present research, a novel composite proton exchange membrane with heterogeneous dual-interface proton transport channels are constructed by impregnating γ-polyglutamic acid functionalized cellulose whiskers/poly(vinylidene fluoride) nanofibers (PGA@CW/PVDF) into the sulfonated polysulfone matrix through a micro-impregnation method. The heterogeneous dual-interfaces generate enriched proton acceptors and donors facilitating the proton conduction, which is clarified by calculating the activation energy barriers of different proton transport pathway via density functional theory . The composite membrane with 15% content of PGA@CW/PVDF demonstrates a high proton conductivity of 0.582 S cm −1 (80 °C). Benefiting from the combined physicochemical and structural advantages of PGA@CW/PVDF and the matrix, the composite membrane achieves a low methanol permeability of 2.05 × 10 −7 cm 2 s −1 , an enhanced tensile strength of 44.61 MPa, and a competitive power density of 201.14 mW cm −2 . This study demonstrates a promising prospect in direct methanol fuel cell application .

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) dual layer hollow fiber membrane was modified by coating dopamine and grafting polyethyleneimine , then the hydrophilic and antibacterial PVDF membrane was obtained through quaternization reactions. The attenuated total reflectant Fourier transform infrared spectra (ATR-FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were applied to confirm the successful modification. The water contact angle measurement suggested that the membrane hydrophilicity was significantly improved. Morphological changes of membranes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The pure water flux before and after BSA contamination was measured and the flux recovery rate for the modified membrane was as high as 94%. The antibacterial tests showed that the hydrophilic and antibacterial PVDF membrane owned excellent anti-bacterial efficiency and resistance to bacterial adhesion. The average pore size, mechanical property and zeta potential were also investigated. All the results demonstrated this facile method can enhance the hydrophilicity and antibacterial ability of PVDF dual layer hollow fiber membrane, and would have application in water treatment.

In order to improve the proton conductivity, CH 3 OH barrier performance and long-term durability of proton exchange membranes in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs), herein, a novel functional nanofiber substrate (IL-ZIF-8@PVDF) was prepared by in situ growing metal-organic framework (ZIF-8) on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanofibers, followed by modification with ionic liquid (IL) containing sulfonic acid groups. PVDF nanofibers can provide flexible mechanical support for ZIF-8, thereby effectively solving the processing difficulties of ZIF-8 caused by its brittleness. Further IL modification of ZIF-8 can not only increase the compatibility between ZIF-8@PVDF and the filling polymer, but also utilize the continuous PVDF nanofiber network to establish long-distance continuous H + transport pathways within the membrane. The as-prepared sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) impregnated IL-ZIF-8@PVDF composite membrane showed a very high proton conductivity of 161.92 mS cm −1 (80 °C). Meanwhile, the presence of nanofiber backbone and ZIF-8 inside the membrane effectively limited the swelling and methanol permeation. The peak power density (PPD) of the DMFC output equipped with the membrane is up to 114.86 mW cm −2 (2 M methanol, 80 °C), 1.28 times that of the commercial Nafion 211. The durability test suggested that the composite membrane assembled DMFC possessed excellent open circuit voltage stability (only 6.3 % attenuation after 320 h of continuous testing). This work provides a new design idea for PEMs for DMFCs.

FeOCl/MIL-88A composites were used to modify the surface of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes. • Simultaneous high pollutant degradation (94% RhB, 91% MB) and remarkable antifouling with FRR increased from 61% to 93%. • Low Fe leaching (0.102 mg/L) and sustained performance over 5 cycles confirm excellent reusability and safety. • The heterojunction between FeOCl and MIL-88A facilitates charge separation and generates ·OH and·O 2 − . Catalytic membranes fabricated by surface loading of active materials have shown great potential for antifouling improvement. This study investigated a photo-Fenton synergistic membrane separation process by fabricating a FeOCl/MIL-88A composite on the surface of PVDF membranes, which markedly enhanced the membrane performance. The modified membrane (FM-3) maintained high pure water flux (518.2 L/m 2 ·h·bar) and porosity (80%) while exhibiting hydrophilicity (contact angle of 8°). Compared with the pristine membrane, FM-3 achieved a substantially higher HA rejection (78%) with only a minor loss of permeability, alleviating the conventional permeability–rejection trade-off. Under visible-light-driven photo-Fenton conditions, FM-3 demonstrated high degradation efficiencies of 94% for RhB and 91% for MB, with stable performance over 5 cycles. Moreover, the membrane demonstrated remarkable antifouling performance, with a flux recovery ratio (FRR) of 93% and an irreversible fouling rate (R ir ) of only 7%. Finally, a possible membrane antifouling mechanism is proposed:·OH and·O 2 − are the primary active species in the catalytic process. The formed heterojunction facilitates efficient charge separation and promotes the Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ cycle. DFT calculations further confirmed the electron transfer direction from FeOCl to MIL-88A, providing theoretical support for the proposed heterojunction mechanism. This work provides a novel and effective approach for designing high-performance catalytic membranes with synergistic separation and anti-fouling functions for sustainable wastewater treatment. The development of high-performance flexible piezoelectric materials is essential for next-generation wearable and self-powered electronic devices. Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), a representative piezoelectric polymer, suffers from an intrinsically limited piezoelectric response, which is primarily governed by the content and orientation of the electroactive β-phase. Conventional strategies for β-phase enhancement often involve complex processing with limited efficiency and scalability. Here, we report a facile and scalable electrospinning strategy for fabricating PVDF nanofiber mats with uniform and tunable diameters ranging from 100 to 1000 nm, achieved by regulating polymer molecular weight and solution parameters. A systematic investigation reveals a pronounced diameter-dependent enhancement of the β-phase content, with finer nanofibers exhibiting significantly higher electroactive phase fractions. To further improve the piezoelectric performance, a synergistic post-treatment combining multi-temperature thermal annealing and bias-controlled grid-corona poling was employed, leading to enhanced crystallinity and more efficient dipole alignment. As a result, ultrafine PVDF nanofibers with diameters of approximately 100 nm achieved a β-phase content of 95.1%, a crystallinity of 0.541, and an effective piezoelectric coefficient of 136.0 pC N−1, which is approximately 4–5 times higher than that of commercial PVDF films, together with a high sensitivity of 362.0 mV N−1. This work elucidates the coupled effects of nanoscale confinement and post-treatment on the structure–property relationships of PVDF nanofibers, providing practical insights for the scalable development of high-performance piezoelectric polymer materials.

Electromagnetic shielding (EMS) materials play an important role in modern technology and industry, especially in electronic equipment, communication technology, military applications and so on. With the continuous progress of technologies and the increasing demands for functional materials, EMS materials are expanding towards flexibility and being lightweight. Recently, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered significant attention in the EMS field due to their unique structure and adjustable properties. In this paper, alloy-based porous nanospheres (CCZ-C) were fabricated by heat-treatment using CoCuZn-MOFs as precursors, and then electrospun CCZ-C/PVDF nanofiber membranes (NFMs) were prepared in a large-quantity by blending them with PVDF. Afterwards, a hierarchical porous structured NFM (MPPA) was obtained by loading a highly conductive Ag nanolayer on the surface of CCZ-C/PVDF nanofibers using pDA as a binder. By adjusting the CCZ-C content, it was determined that the EMS performance of MPPA was highest when the CCZ-C content was 2 wt.%, with an average SSE of 12,017.01 dB·cm2·g−1. This was because the hierarchical porous structure formed by adding an appropriate amount of CCZ-C further improved the electromagnetic attenuation and impedance matching of MPPA.

Objective To develop a self-powered, flexible, and biocompatible piezoelectric energy harvesting device for real-time oral health monitoring and therapeutic applications. Methods A composite membrane was fabricated by combining polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂) nanoparticles (0–3.0 wt%) using electrospinning technology. The membrane was characterized morphologically, chemically, mechanically, and piezoelectrically. The resulting piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG) was integrated into bite-force testing films, mouthguards, and aligners. Biocompatibility was assessed using CCK-8, LIVE/DEAD, immunofluorescence, and ICP-OES analyses. Results The addition of 1.0 wt% ZrO₂ significantly increased the β-phase content and piezoelectric output, yielding a peak voltage of 0.81 V under 0.5 MPa pressure. A two-layer mouthguard achieved up to 1.05 V, enabling real-time bite-force monitoring with excellent linear response. Biocompatibility tests confirmed no cytotoxicity, along with normal cell adhesion and proliferation. Significance This work provides a biocompatible, self-powered piezoelectric platform that can harvest oral mechanical energy for wearable diagnostics and therapies, offering a promising strategy for advanced, real-time oral healthcare systems.
