In recent years, fluorescent sensors based on carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have been widely reported for pharmaceutical detection owing to their numerous advantages. In this study, a Fe³⁺-mediated fluorescence “off–on” sensor based on nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) was developed for the selective detection of tiopronin (TPN). Briefly, highly fluorescent N-CQDs were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method using citric acid monohydrate and diethylenetriamine. XPS, FT-IR, UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and DLS confirmed that the N-CQDs exhibit uniform size, aqueous stability, excitation-independent fluorescence, and a high quantum yield of 62.99%. Fe³⁺ selectively bound to N-CQDs to form a complex, resulting in fluorescence quenching. Subsequently, upon the addition of TPN, the fluorescence of N-CQDs showed a proportional recovery. During this process, the competitive coordination between TPN and Fe³⁺ led to the release of Fe³⁺ from the N-CQDs, thereby restoring the quenched fluorescence. The limit of detection (LOD) of TPN was 80 μmol/L, with a linear range of 0.2–0.7 mmol/L and an R² value of 0.9993. The content of TPN in enteric-coated tablets was quantified using this method, yielding recovery rates ranging from 92.59% to 104.22%. This method is simple, rapid, and reliable, offering good sensitivity without the need for expensive reagents or complex equipment. Lithium metal batteries offer a pathway toward next-generation energy storage due to their high specific energy. However, their implementation remains challenging, particularly under lean electrolyte conditions, where unstable interfaces and inefficient ion transport severely limit cycling stability. Here, we show a bifunctional ligand-bridged electrolyte by integrating ethyl difluoroacetate into a lithium nitrate/triethyl phosphate matrix. Incorporating ethyl difluoroacetate as a dynamic bridging agent drives the formation of interconnected ionic aggregates through synergistic H δ+ − O δ− hydrogen bonding with anions and coordination interactions with Li⁺, thereby accelerating interfacial kinetics and suppressing parasitic reactions. The electrolyte further enables weakly coordinating solvents to engage in the solvation sheath via non-classical hydrogen bonding, facilitating the formation of a robust, inorganic-rich solid electrolyte interphase. This design enables the realization of high-capacity (14 Ah) Li ‖ Ni95 pouch cells, which achieve a specific energy of 606.8 Wh kg −1 while maintaining 92.9% capacity retention after 75 cycles at rates of 0.1 C/0.2 C. These findings demonstrate a viable electrolyte strategy for enabling high-performance lithium metal batteries under practical conditions.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) emerge as strong candidates for large-scale energy storage due to their high safety and low cost, yet their application is severely constrained by dendrite growth and side reactions at the zinc anode. This study introduces nanosized barium titanate (BTO) and graphene (Gr) onto the zinc anode surface via electrochemical deposition to optimize the interfacial electric field distribution and provide nucleation sites, thereby synergistically suppressing dendrite growth and side reactions. The results indicate that at a BTO loading of 0.6 g/L, the composite zinc anode exhibits excellent cycling stability in symmetric cells, achieving stable cycling for 350 h at 5 mA/cm 2 and 450 h at 2 mA/cm 2 . Further addition of 0.04 g/L Gr enables uniform zinc-ion deposition along the (002) crystal plane, enabling the symmetric cell to achieve stable cycling for 300 h at 5 mA/cm 2 and 400 h at 2 mA/cm 2 . The assembled symmetric cell exhibits lower voltage hysteresis and longer cycling performance compared to the bare zinc electrode. Moreover, the full cell assembled with Zn-BTO-Gr anodes maintained a coulombic efficiency of 99.81% after 1500 cycles at 1 A/g. Electrochemical testing reveals that incorporating BTO and Gr significantly reduces charge transfer resistance and hydrogen evolution overpotential, enhancing the cell’s rate capability and cycling stability. This study provides new insights for designing high-performance zinc anodes.

To address the susceptibility of porous Silica (SiO₂) antireflection coatings to ultraviolet (UV) degradation, this study introduces a dual-functional strategy incorporating methoxy polyethylene glycol (mPEG) as a porogen and lanthanum nitrate (La(NO₃)₃) as a UV-blocking agent via a sol–gel approach. Systematic investigations revealed that La(NO₃)₃ incorporation synergistically optimizes film architecture and spectral performance. Notably, the average transmittance of optimized films (0.3 wt% La 3 ⁺) in the 400–1100 nm range reached 93.1%, exhibiting a 4.57 percentage point enhancement compared to blank glass substrates (T ave = 88.5%). Mechanical characterization confirmed robustness, with a pencil hardness of 9 H and adhesive strength exceeding industry standards (tape-tearing grade 0). Furthermore, accelerated aging tests (5000 equivalent solar hours, ESHs) demonstrated superior photostability: while pristine films suffered a 1.22 percentage point transmittance loss, La 3+ -doped films retained 92.25% transmittance with minimal degradation (0.85 percentage point). Notably, the pencil hardness only decreased by 1 H (from 9 to 8 H) while maintaining a tape-tearing adhesion grade of 0. The enhanced UV resistance arises from La 3 ⁺-induced surface passivation and UV photon scattering in the short-wavelength regime, effectively mitigating photooxidative damage. This work advances the development of durable, transparent UV-blocking coatings for optoelectronic and architectural applications.

Lab-scale wastewater treatment studies, including urine recovery, often rely on oversimplified synthetic wastewater, thereby compromising the reliability of results and data. Here, we systematically evaluate how using full-component versus simplified synthetic urine formulations affects the performance and engineering-economic assessment of bipolar membrane electrodialysis. Our findings reveal that simplification fundamentally alters fouling mechanisms. While urea alone causes significant damage to anion exchange membranes through hydrogen bonding aggregation, natural organic co-components in real urine mitigate fouling via inhibitory interactions—a mechanism confirmed by molecular dynamics simulations and experimental characterization. After seven batches, the full-component formulations showed 29.3% less performance decay and 10–14% higher urea recovery than the simplified formulation. Moreover, the complete removal of organic components disrupts ion-organic co-aggregation pathways on cation exchange membranes, shifting fouling toward mineral crystallization on bipolar membranes. Simplification also distorts the engineering-economic assessment, overestimating cleaning costs by 15.9% and underestimating membrane lifespan by 12.5%. These findings necessitate identifying key wastewater constituents and ensuring experimental integrity to bridge lab-industry gaps, advocating designs comprehensively addressing multi-component interactions.

Rutin shows potential for reducing uric acid (UA) but suffers from low bioavailability. Microbial biotransformation can convert rutin into metabolites with enhanced absorption, stability, and physiological activity. This study aims to investigate the biotransformation effects of probiotics containing α-L-rhamnose glycosidase and α-L-rhamnose glycosidase on rutin, as well as their therapeutic efficacy for hyperuricemia (HUA). In vitro, Lactobacillus gasseri CCFM1346 exhibited significantly higher conversion rates for transforming rutin into quercetin and isoquercetin compared to other strains. In HUA mice, both the CCFM1346-fermented rutin preparation (post-Rutin) and a synbiotic combination (Synbiotic) significantly lowered serum UA and creatinine levels ( p < 0.05). Moreover, the Synbiotics group achieved superior serum UA reduction (74.7%) compared to the post-Rutin group (60.1%), despite more moderate xanthine oxidase inhibition. These treatments effectively decreased hepatic xanthine oxidase and enhanced urate oxidase activity, as well as downregulated mRNA levels of UA reabsorption transporters ( URAT1 and GLUT9 ) while upregulating the efflux transporter ABCG2 . Moreover, the combination of L. gasseri CCFM1346 with rutin significantly inhibited the transcription of renal inflammasome components ( NLRP3 , ASC , Caspase1 ) and inflammatory cytokines ( IL-6 , IL-1β , TNF-α ). Futuremore, correlation analysis indicates that these indicators exhibit a significant positive correlation ( p < 0.001). In conclusion, L. gasseri CCFM1346-fermented rutin alleviates HUA through multi-mechanistic actions, with the synbiotic preparation demonstrating superior efficacy by concurrently targeting UA production, excretion, and inflammation. These findings provide a foundation for developing synbiotic functional foods for UA management.

This study developed a nanozyme-SERS dual-function sensor that exhibits both highly efficient peroxidase (POD)-like activity and superior surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) enhancement, designed for detecting homocysteine (Hcy) in serum from colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Bimetallic Au@Pt nanoparticles (Au@Pt NPs) exhibited exceptional nanozyme catalysis and SERS performance, enabling the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to oxidized TMB (oxTMB) with a pronounced SERS signal generation. Au@Pt NPs were assembled into aminated capillaries via electrostatic adsorption and subsequently modified with Hcy aptamers to create the nanozyme-SERS dual-function sensor. When Hcy was present, the reducing thiol groups (-SH) consumed the hydroxyl radicals (·OH) produced by the decomposition of H 2 O 2 . This inhibited the oxidation of TMB, resulting in a weaker SERS signal. The SERS sensor demonstrated a remarkably low detection limit (LOD) for Hcy, reaching as low as 0.14 × 10⁻ 12 mol/L. Furthermore, within the concentration range of 10⁻ 12 to 10⁻ 4 mol/L, there was a linear relationship between the logarithm of Hcy concentration and the SERS signal intensity. Serum samples from both healthy individuals and CRC patients were tested with the SERS sensor. The results demonstrated a high degree of concordance with those obtained by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), showing significantly higher Hcy levels in CRC patient serum compared to healthy controls. Unlike traditional methods such as colorimetric assays, fluorescence analysis, and the SERS “sandwich” strategy, which often involve complex procedures and have low sensitivity, this approach offers a simple, highly sensitive, and specific method for detecting Hcy. It holds promise as an effective tool for early CRC diagnosis.

Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is increasingly recognized as an age-related systemic disorder shaped by gut–liver axis dysfunction, yet how ageing influences disease susceptibility and intervention responses remains poorly understood. Population-level GBD and NHANES analyses showed that alcohol-related cirrhosis burden and higher liver stiffness were concentrated in mature and older adults, particularly men, providing a translational context for the use of 11–12-month-old male mice. We compared Dihydromyricetin (DHM) and Silybin to determine whether these bioactive interventions elicit distinct gut–liver axis adaptations under middle-aged alcohol exposure. Both interventions produced partial and endpoint-dependent phenotypic effects, with Silybin showing more consistent improvements in survival and hepatic lipid accumulation. Multi-omics profiling further identified divergent intervention-associated molecular, metabolic, and ecological signatures. DHM was associated with adaptive energy metabolism, detoxification-associated remodeling, jejunal epithelial-renewal-associated transcriptional programs, and host-state-dependent microbial relative-abundance patterns, including context-dependent shifts in the relative abundance of Akkermansia . In contrast, Silybin was associated with transcriptional programs related to proteostasis and ER stress, inflammatory lipid-associated metabolic changes, and distinct immune-associated microbial patterns. These findings define distinct intervention-associated adaptive responses within a middle-aged physiological context and support further age-stratified evaluation in alcohol-associated liver injury.

Achieving accurate quantification and counting of active lactic acid bacteria (LAB) is an important technical guarantee for the industrial production and application of LAB and their products. In this study, a gold nanoparticles@polyvinylpyrrolidone/sodium alginate (AuNPs@PVP/SA) hydrogel SERS sensor with outstanding stability and sensitivity was developed. Utilizing this platform as a substrate material to mitigate the “coffee ring” effect, we explored a strategy for the precise quantitative determination of mixed active LAB based on the AuNPs@PVP/SA hydrogel SERS platform and D 2 O-probed Raman spectroscopy technology. The results indicated that the SERS platform based on AuNPs@PVP/SA hydrogel exhibited excellent spectral reproducibility for LAB as a SERS substrate material, with a significantly reduced “coffee ring” effect. This strategy enabled rapid and quantitative detection of active lactic acid bacteria (LAB), with a limit of detection (LOD) of 10 CFU/mL. Moreover, the strategy had excellent analytical capabilities for the qualitative identification and precise quantification of different species of active LAB in actual samples, achieving an average accuracy of 98.67% with RSD values all less than 5%. It provides a potential technical support for the dynamic monitoring of relative abundance and metabolic phenomena of mixed active LAB in co-culture systems during actual industrial production. Reduced graphene oxide/strontium oxide (rGO/SrO) nanocomposites were effectively produced for supercapacitor applications using a hydrothermal-assisted approach followed by calcination. XRD, XPS, FESEM, and TEM investigations all showed the presence of cubic SrO nanorods evenly dispersed over wrinkled rGO sheets. The addition of rGO greatly improved electrochemical performance by increasing conductivity and ion diffusion behavior. The rGO/SrO electrode has a greater specific capacitance (354 F g ⁻1 at 5 mV s ⁻1 and 192 F g ⁻1 at 0.1 A g ⁻1 ) than bare SrO. The built rGO/SrO//AC asymmetric supercapacitor device had specific capacitance values ranging from 89 to 48 F g ⁻1 at current densities of 0.1–0.6 A g ⁻1 . It also attained a maximum energy density of 12.9 Wh kg ⁻1 at a power density of 3600 W kg ⁻1 . The improved electrochemical performance is ascribed to the synergistic interaction of conductive rGO sheets and electroactive SrO nanostructures, highlighting the promise of rGO/SrO composites for advanced energy storage applications.

Pseudobrookite-type Fe 2 TiO 5 semiconductor nanoparticles were systematically synthesized via a co-precipitation method for the photodegradation of organic pollutants. The dual-level optimization from nanomaterial fabrication to reaction environment tuning enables a rational understanding of the factors governing photocatalytic efficiency. Optimal synthesis conditions were achieved using a 20% excess of Ti 4+ , a pH of 8, one-time ammonia addition, and calcination at 800°C for 6 h. The photocatalyst achieved 99.4% degradation efficiency for methylene blue (MB) under visible light with a 75-mg catalyst dosage, a 10-mg/L MB solution, at pH 6, and the addition of 7 mL H 2 O 2 . The photogenerated electron–hole pairs reacted with surface species to produce ·O 2 − and ·OH that degrade MB molecules oxidatively. The catalyst exhibited versatility and excellent recyclability, maintaining high activity over four consecutive cycles with only a minor decrease in efficiency. This study establishes the optimal synthesis parameters and reaction conditions for Fe 2 TiO 5 nanoparticles in visible-light photocatalysis.

This study develops a green and efficient two-phase deep eutectic solvents (DESs) liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) method, utilizing hydrophilic DESs for Ginkgo biloba flavonoids (GBFs) extraction and hydrophobic DESs for G. biloba acid (GAs) removal from Ginkgo leaf. Initially, COSMOtherm software was employed to screen 80 DESs through activity coefficient calculations, identifying suitable hydrophilic and hydrophobic DESs. Among the COSMOtherm-screened and experimentally validated DESs, the hydrophilic DESs composed of Methyl- β -cyclodextrin and 1,4-butylene Glycol (M- β -CD/BDO) with a mass ratio of 1:5 was selected, demonstrated higher extraction efficiency for GBF. Under the optimal conditions, the maximum extraction yield of GBFs reached 10.06 ± 0.14 mg/g. Subsequently, oleic acid/lauryl alcohol (5:1) was applied to remove five types of GAs from the M‑ β ‑CD/BDO extract using LLE. Through the optimization of LLE conditions, the removal rate of GAs reached 86.28 ± 1.21%, while the loss rate of GBFs was only 6.46 ± 0.23%. Finally, hybrid density functional theory (DFT) calculations, including the measurement of the binding energy (E int ), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to elucidate the mechanism by which M‑ β ‑CD/BDO enhances the extraction efficiency of GBFs. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to quantitatively analyze the diffusion coefficients of 13 Ginkgo compounds in M‑ β ‑CD/BDO and OleA/Lau systems.
