The heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) process is a promising advanced-oxidation technology for treating recalcitrant landfill leachate nanofiltration concentrate (LNC), yet single-cathode or homogeneous EF systems remain limited by iron-sludge generation, narrow pH windows and sub-optimal coupling between H 2 O 2 production and activation. Here we engineer a dual-cathode heterogeneous EF (DEF) reactor that spatially decouples (i) high-rate in situ H 2 O 2 electrosynthesis on a carbon-black modified Ni-foam gas-diffusion cathode, from (ii) efficient copper-activated Fenton-like decomposition of H 2 O 2 on a Cu-coated Ni-foam cathode. The synergistic, reagent-free configuration operates from pH 3–7 without external Fe 2+ dosing and produces negligible metal sludge. Under the optimum current (0.718 A) and pH 3.5 determined by response-surface methodology, the DEF removed 72.74 % COD and 65.31 % TOC from real LNC within 120 min at an energy demand of 128 kWh/kg TOC—54 % lower than anodic oxidation—and maintained >90 % activity after five reuse cycles with ∼0.715 mg/ Cu leaching. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy verified ·OH and ·O 2 − as the dominant oxidant, generated via a surface Cu 0 /Cu + /Cu 2+ redox cycle that accelerates H 2 O 2 decomposition. Compared with homogeneous EF and single-cathode heterogeneous EF benchmarks, the DEF offers comparable mineralization yet superior energy efficiency and zero-sludge operation, providing a scalable strategy for treating refractory industrial effluents.

Biochar derived from wheat straw was prepared and subsequently modified with hydrogen peroxide through ball milling, yielding ball-milled wheat straw biochar (BMWB). BMWB/Pebax mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were prepared by incorporating BMWB into Pebax-1657, and their CO 2 separation performance was evaluated. The results showed that ball milling successfully reduced the biochar particle size, increased its specific surface area, and strengthened the intensity of surface functional groups. Furthermore, hydrogen peroxide modification augmented the oxygen-containing functional groups on the biochar surface, enhancing its hydrophilicity and improving its dispersion within the Pebax-1657. Under the experimental conditions of 25°C and 0.2 MPa, the MMMs loaded with 3 wt% BMWB exhibited significantly enhanced gas separation performance, with a CO 2 permeability of 97.75 Barrer and CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 62.3. These values represent substantial improvements of 38.8% and 32.8%, respectively, compared to the pristine Pebax-1657 membrane. This enhanced separation performance can be ascribed to two primary factors: (1) the presents of abundant functional groups (e.g., carboxyl and amino groups) on BMWB significantly improved CO 2 affinity; and (2) the intrinsic gas transport channels within BMWB, combined with the tortuous pathways generated by the effective stacking of BMWB particles, synergistically enhanced both CO 2 permeability and selectivity.

The rational design of efficient photocatalysts is critical for solar-driven chemical conversions. Pyrene-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising candidates due to pyrene's excellent electron-donating ability and planar π-conjugation, making them potentially powerful photocatalysts. However, the limited availability of pyrene monomers hinders the design of such COFs. This study explores COFs incorporating a novel pyrene monomer for selective two-electron oxygen reduction (2e− ORR) and two-electron water oxidation (2e− WOR) to produce hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Under visible light irradiation, COF-Pytri achieves a remarkable H2O2 production rate of 1046 μmol g−1 h−1, representing 4-fold and 5-fold enhancements over the COFs without pyrene or triazine units, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the triazine unit acts as an electron acceptor site for selective O2 adsorption and reduction and the pyrene unit provides the site for the water oxidation reaction as an electron donor, and the combination of D–A structure improves the efficiency of charge carrier separation and enables the reaction to proceed in an orderly manner. Furthermore, COF-Pytri exhibits rapid photocatalytic degradation of environmental pollutants, as demonstrated with Rhodamine B (RhB). This work provides a design strategy for developing advanced pyrene-based photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications.

Advancing the two-electron (2e - ) oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic media is pivotal for sustainable, on-demand hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production, but remains challenged by insufficient activity/selectivity at industrially relevant high current densities. We present a breakthrough catalyst design featuring cobalt atomic sites embedded in curved nitrogen-doped carbon layers (c-Co-N-C). This architecture achieves nearly 90 % H 2 O 2 selectivity across a wide potential window, delivering 11.70 mol g⁻¹ h⁻¹ productivity at 300 mA cm −2 with 80 % Faraday efficiency in flow cell tests. Particularly, the catalyst maintains a stable 300 mA cm −2 operation under 1.9 V cell voltage (surpassing prior-art systems by 0.2 V) for 120 h in a PEM electrolyzer, producing pure-phase H 2 O 2 (4.1 wt%). Through integrated experimental and computational analysis, we reveal two complementary enhancement mechanisms: first, the finite element simulations quantify the enhanced interfacial electric field that concentrates protons and dissolved oxygen; then, the density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate a downshift in Co d -band center optimizes *OOH adsorption while suppressing O-O bond cleavage. This work establishes curvature engineering as a universal design strategy for advanced catalysts through controlled structural modification, opening new pathways for sustainable chemical synthesis.

Biofilm infections present escalating clinical challenges due to their intrinsic resistance to conventional treatments, underscoring the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies. Here, we show a pioneering approach that leverages sacrificial nitric oxide (NO) to enhance hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) retention for antibiofilm therapy. H 2 O 2 has the ability to produce hydroxyl radicals (•OH), the most potent oxidants in nature, but it is often neutralized by H 2 O 2 scavengers before •OH formation. Our design utilizes ultrasound irradiation to release NO from the biofilm-anchoring nano-xanthiums (G-B@NXs), which subsequently interact with biofilm-associated H 2 O 2 scavengers, including catalase and glutathione, to suppress the decomposition ability toward H 2 O 2 . Additionally, glucose oxidase on the surface of G-B@NXs supplements H 2 O 2 production, facilitates its conversion into •OH, and exhibits effective biofilm sterilization in different infection models. Our strategy not only shows the promise for advancing antibiofilm applications but also provides novel insights into the development of NO-assisted biomaterials.

Enhancing the photocatalytic efficiency of zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn 2 S 4 , ZIS) for hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production remains a significant challenge. Based on a viscous solvent system, this study innovatively introduced polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to assist the hydrothermal synthesis of ZnIn 2 S 4 . Acting as both a dispersant and stabilizer, PVP guided the self-assembly of nanosheets into a highly ordered petal-like architecture with expanded interlayer spacing, while effectively suppressing random nanoparticle aggregation. This unique structure not only enhanced light harvesting and mass transfer efficiency but also facilitated electron transport through nanosheet bridges. This distinctive architecture enhances light absorption and mass transfer, while the interconnected nanoflake networks provide efficient pathways for electron transport. This integrated design effectively suppresses photogenerated charge recombination and increases the accessibility of active sites. Consequently, the optimized 160-PVP@ZIS sample yielded 843.2 μM of H 2 O 2 , 2.92 times higher than pristine ZIS. Combined XPS and FTIR analyses revealed that sulfur vacancy enrichment and surface hydroxylation synergistically promoted the generation of key reactive oxygen species (·OH and ·O 2 - ), thereby enhancing the photocatalytic performance. This study demonstrates that PVP-assisted hydrothermal synthesis provides an effective strategy to regulate both morphology and surface chemistry, offering new design principles for high-performance ZnIn 2 S 4 -based photocatalysts toward sustainable H 2 O 2 production.

Manganese containing mesoporous materials Mn-MCM-41 were prepared by template-ion exchange (TIE), in situ reduction (ISR), direct hydrothermal (DHT) and wetness impregnation (WI) methods. The samples were characterized by XRD , N 2 adsorption–desorption, HR-TEM, TG, UV–Vis, H 2 -TPR and ESR techniques, which illustrated that the definite structure of the MCM-41 was retained after introducing Mn into MCM-41 by different method. The catalytic activity and selectivity of the Mn-MCM-41 in the epoxidation of styrene with 30% H 2 O 2 as an oxidant agent were explored. The TIE catalysts showed the highest activity but Mn 2+ was leached during the reaction. The ISR catalysts exhibited high activity for epoxidation of styrene. Furthermore, recycling studies proved the ISR catalysts as heterogeneous catalysts , which did not lose the catalytic activity after four recycles appreciably. However, the DHT and WI catalysts showed poor performance in the catalytic epoxidation of styrene. Various parameters such as different reaction molar ratio of H 2 O 2 /styrene, catalyst amount, and kinds of solvents were studied to optimize the reaction conditions.

Piezocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production holds promise as a sustainable technology, but its practicability is hindered by inadequate polarization fields, sluggish charge transport, and rapid bulk carrier recombination. Herein, we propose a catalyst-design strategy integrating bulk iodine doping with surface MXene cocatalyst coupling in a typical piezoelectric bismuth titanate (Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 , BTO). This design generates intensified bulk polarization fields that markedly suppress electron-hole recombination, while MXene functions as an efficient interfacial electron sink, significantly reducing surface kinetic barriers by facilitating electron transfer for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The optimized iodine-doped MXene-coupled BTO (MBTO-I) catalyst demonstrates a piezocatalytic H₂O₂ production rate of 5890 µmol g⁻¹ h⁻¹ under ambient conditions without any sacrificial agents. Theoretical calculations and advanced characterization techniques reveal that iodine doping effectively lowers energy barriers for *OH intermediate formation and stabilizes O–H bonds, while MXene coupling significantly improves interfacial charge transfer and accelerates the ORR kinetics. Furthermore, the produced H 2 O 2 was successfully employed for bacterial sterilization and rapid degradation of pollutants. Subsequent chemical analyses and biological assessments confirm a substantial reduction in the toxicity of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) degradation products, highlighting the catalyst’s considerable potential for environmental remediation applications.

Two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e−-ORR) represents a sustainable and energy-efficient approach for decentralized hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production compared with the conventional anthraquinone process. Among various electrocatalysts, metal–nitrogen–carbon (M–N–C) materials have attracted extensive attention owing to their tunable electronic structures and favorable *OOH adsorption behavior. However, the uncontrolled pyrolysis process generally leads to structurally heterogeneous and ill-defined coordination environments, making it difficult to precisely regulate active sites and understand catalytic mechanisms. Herein, we report a single-atom catalyst (CoN@OCNT) featuring spatially confined pyridinic-N-coordinated Co single sites, synthesized by anchoring a well-defined hexapod terpyridine Co-precursor onto oxidized carbon nanotubes (OCNTs) to suppress metal aggregation during pyrolysis. Benefiting from the optimized coordination environment and enhanced mass/electron transfer, the CoN@OCNT catalyst exhibits nearly 100% H2O2selectivity over a wide potential window from −1.0 to 0.66 V versus RHE in neutral electrolyte. In situ FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy reveal a rapid *OOH-mediated reaction pathway during the 2e−-ORR process. Furthermore, membrane electrode assembly (MEA) testing demonstrates an H2O2production rate of 21.8 mol h−1gcat−1with stable operation over 80 h at 60 mA cm−2. Remarkably, at an industrially relevant current density of 300 mA cm−2, the catalyst achieves a record H2O2production rate of 70.3 mol h−1gcat−1and a salt-free H2O2concentration of 9.4 mM, highlighting its great potential for practical large-scale H2O2electrosynthesis in neutral media.

Multifunctional film design combines AIE-H 2 O 2 probe and silica-Cu 2+ sensor. • Dual ratio sensing enables visual detection of H 2 O 2 vapor and Cu 2+ simultaneously. • Flexible film realizes encryption/decryption for anti-counterfeiting smart labels. • Film exhibits mild antimicrobial effect and food preservation function. • Integrated sensing & antibacterial features in intelligent packaging. Fluorescent sensing films are considered as powerful tools for portable detection of various analytes due to their advantages of being non-invasive, real-time and easily integrable. The multifunctional design of fluorescent film sensors plays a crucial role in expanding their practical applications in complex detection scenarios. Here, a flexible ratiometric fluorescent sensing film (PAN@SD-S@CS-TB) with mild antibacterial performance was designed for dual sensing of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and Copper (II) (Cu 2+ ). Specifically, a silica nanosphere-based Cu 2+ probe was incorporated into the film fiber through co-electrospinning, and subsequently, the fiber surface was functionalized with aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-featured H 2 O 2 sensing molecules. Based on different fluorescence responses, the blue-emission of the film could be quenched upon interaction with H 2 O 2 vapor, whereas the red-emission exhibited “turn-off” behavior in the presence of Cu 2+ . This multifunctional fluorescence film was convenient for the sensitive, selective and visual detection of H 2 O 2 and Cu 2+ , with the detection limits of 27.6 ppb and 80.3 μM, respectively. Based on the multiple-responsive performance of the film, an intelligent anticounterfeiting label was constructed for information encryption and decryption. Moreover, PAN@SD-S@CS-TB demonstrated real-time detection capability in food products. Meanwhile, it exhibited certain antimicrobial properties on food surfaces, which could extend the shelf life and maintained the food freshness. The film with integrated functions of sensing and antibacterial revealed huge advantages in intelligent packaging. This study provided a novel avenue for the development of multifunctional film systems and offered great application values across various fields. Despite the growing use of three-dimensional electrochemical reactor (3DER) in wastewater treatment, the synergistic mechanisms and degradation performance of 3DER coupled with hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) using iron concentrate (IC) as particle electrodes (PEs) remained largely unexplored. In this study, a 3DER utilizing IC as PEs and H 2 O 2 as the oxidant (3DER-H 2 O 2 system) was developed for bisphenol A (BPA) degradation. Physicochemical characteristics reveal that IC possessed high iron content (54.8 wt%), favorable electrical conductivity (1.9 ×10 4 S·m −1 ), and structural stability, making it an ideal PEs material. Under optimal operating conditions (5 mM of H 2 O 2 concentration, 0.4 A of current intensity, 2 g·L −1 of PEs dosage, 10 mm of interelectrode spacing, and initial pH value of 7), the 3DER-H 2 O 2 system achieved 89.7% of BPA removal (initial concentration 10 mg·L −1 ) within 70 min, with energy consumption (EC) of 38.15 Wh·L −1 and specific energy consumption (SEC) of 4.27 Wh·mg −1 . Comparative experiments demonstrated significant synergistic effects (synergy factor >10) of the system, attributed to enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and improved mass transfer efficiency. Electron paramagnetic resonance and quenching experiments identified hydroxyl radicals (HO • ) as the dominant ROS, while sulfate radicals (SO 4 • ⁻) contributed minor roles in the system. High-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) analysis BPA was mineralized into CO 2 and H 2 O via aromatic substitution and C–C cleavage, with acute toxicity decreasing progressively. Stability tests showed that 49.7% of BPA removal efficiency after four cycles, with heavy metal leaching remaining within safety limits. This study provides a cost-effective technical solution for BPA-contaminated wastewater treatment and promoted the engineering application of 3DER technology for emerging contaminant remediation.

Precise structural modulation of Pt-based nanozymes is an effective strategy to enhance the catalytic performance for biochemical sensing. Herein, we report three-dimensional (3D) hollow nanospheres (HNPs) featuring highly dispersed Pd/Pt atomic sites as an efficient peroxidase mimic. The Pd/Pt-HNPs exhibit markedly enhanced peroxidase-like activity, which we attribute to the synergistic catalysis of bimetallic active centers combined with the hollow 3D architecture. Kinetic analysis reveals a Vmax of 20.29 × 10–8 M·s–1, corresponding to an activity ∼10-fold higher than that of Pd-HNPs and ∼1.6-fold higher than that of Pt-HNPs. Notably, the Kcat reaches 5.44 × 105·s–1, which is approximately 103-fold greater than that of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) under the same assay conditions. Leveraging this excellent catalytic efficiency, we established an ultrasensitive colorimetric platform for H2O2 quantification (limit of detection (LOD): 1.14 μM by calculation; visual limit of detection (vLOD): 2.5 μM by naked-eye inspection), exhibiting a detection range from 2.5 μM to 12.8 mM. The Pd/Pt-HNPs-based method delivers a sensitivity 55 and 13-fold higher than those of HRP and a confirmatory method, respectively. The assay further demonstrates reliable accuracy in complex food matrices (milk, dried bean curds, and chicken feet), affording good recovery rates (91.36–115.71%) with a coefficient of variation in the range from 4.06 to 15.41% and low susceptibility to interference. This study highlights the synergistic effect of Pd/Pt bimetallic sites and nanoengineering in enhancing nanozyme catalysis, enabling sensitive and reliable detection in complex food matrices.
