A series of Ag 0.94 Nd 0.02 NbO 3 photocatalysts with tunable surface oxygen vacancy (OV) concentrations ranging from 9% to 46% were successfully synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis followed by air annealing. The band gap ( E g ) narrows from 2.91 to 2.75 eV with an enhancement in light harvesting as the annealing temperature is reduced. Mechanistic studies on photogenerated charge transfer, separation, and recombination reveal that the photocatalytic activity for rhodamine B (RhB) degradation is governed by charge recombination and separation efficiency rather than band-gap narrowing. Moreover, charge recombination depends non-monotonically on OV concentration: it is significantly suppressed at moderate OV concentrations (9–29%) due to electron trapping by OV-induced defect states, thereby enhancing the charge separation efficiency; at higher levels (46%), these defect states become charge recombination centers, severely impairing photocatalytic performance. The optimal photocatalyst A600 (29% OV concentration, E g = 2.85 eV) degrades over 98% of both concentrated and diluted RhB solutions within 30 min with reaction rate constants up to 0.475 min −1 , demonstrating excellent visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity that outperforms comparable photocatalysts. These findings indicate that optimizing OV concentration to suppress charge recombination and promote charge separation efficiency is a critical factor in developing high-performance visible-light photocatalysts.

Abstract Broadband emission from single quantum dot (QD) inherently relies on localized states that are conventionally regarded as nonradiative trap manifolds and suffer from low synthetic reproducibility. Here we show that photogenerated holes in a AgInxGa1–xS2/ZnS core/shell QD can be controllably partitioned into two parallel, kinetically isolated, and nonthermalized localized states, each of which then radiatively recombines with the delocalized electron with distinct formation and recombination kinetics. The high-energy and low-energy photoluminescence (PL) peaks are related to a small-polaron-like state in the core and a manifold of trap states near the core–shell boundary, respectively. The nonequilibrated dual-state architecture yields composition-tunable and ultrabroad emission with a PL full width at half maximum (fwhm) of 120–130 nm, near-unity quantum yield (QY), negligible Urbach tail, and robust operation under thermal and optical stress. Integrated with a blue GaN chip, a single type of QD produces efficient and stable warm-white light with a wall-plug efficiency as ∼150 lm W–1 and an electron-to-photon QY > 50%. Our results indicate localized states should be revisited as a valid paradigm for optoelectronic QD materials.

Engineered microbial therapies provide a promising strategy for in situ production of therapeutic molecules at disease sites; however, their clinical translation remains limited by insufficient retention at target tissues and the lack of external control after administration. Here, we develop a wearable bioelectronic-assisted living hydrogel platform that enables rapid in situ immobilization and remote regulation of engineered bacteria. Optogenetically engineered bacteria capable of green-light-induced anti-interleukin-6 (anti-IL-6) secretion were encapsulated within a photoresponsive Gelatin Methacryloyl/Sodium Alginate (GelMA/SA) hydrogel precursor. Upon external green-light stimulation, the precursor rapidly transformed into a stable living hydrogel within 5 s while activating the therapeutic protein expression program of engineered bacteria, thereby coordinating hydrogel formation with microbial functional regulation. This rapid in situ gelation strategy enhanced bacterial retention in the stomach and provided a protective microenvironment to maintain bacterial viability and sustained functional output. Combined with a lightweight wireless-powered wearable LED device, the system allowed non-invasive optical control after gastric administration, overcoming the limited spatiotemporal controllability of conventional microbial therapies. The platform preserved bacterial activity, enabled on-demand modulation of inflammatory responses, and demonstrated therapeutic benefits in full-thickness skin wound and ethanol-induced gastritis models. Compared with bacteria or hydrogel treatment alone, optically activated bacterial therapy further reduced inflammation and promoted tissue repair. This work establishes a rapidly assembled and remotely programmable living bioelectronic interface by combining photocrosslinkable biomaterials, optogenetic engineering, wearable electronics, and engineered microbes, offering a controllable approach for microbial therapy of gastrointestinal diseases. YAG:Ce phosphor ceramics are important color converters for high-power LED lighting. Vat photopolymerization enables complex ceramic geometries, but mixed oxide systems require control of slurry stability, reactive densification, and structure-property relationships. YAG:Ce ceramics were fabricated by digital light processing (DLP) using reactive oxide precursors. A co-dispersant strategy produced a stable photocurable suspension with 51 vol% solid loading, supporting reliable printing. Optimized air calcination regulated precursor reaction and densification, giving vacuum-sintered ceramics with a dense microstructure, low porosity (0.03%), and high in-line transmittance (78.48% at 600 nm, 0.8 mm thickness). A hill-array ceramic was further fabricated. Compared with the flat counterpart of equivalent volume, the structured surface improved heat dissipation and light extraction, reducing peak temperature (by 37.5 °C at 90 W) and increasing luminous efficacy (from 172.02 to 185.54 lm/W at 50 W). These results indicate the potential of DLP-fabricated ceramics as color converters for high-power LED lighting applications.

A Janus nanofibrous membrane was fabricated via sequential electrospinning. • Fiber light trapping enhanced solar absorption for photothermal conversion. • PDA deposition was optimized to balance mass transfer and photothermal heating. • The membrane achieved 1.97 L m −2 h −1 flux and >99.99% salt rejection. • Stable PMD performance was maintained during 70 h continuous operation. Solar-driven photothermal membrane distillation (PMD) is a promising approach for sustainable desalination, but its practical application is still limited by temperature polarization, membrane wetting, and the trade-off between photothermal conversion and vapor transport. Herein, a polydopamine (PDA)@Janus nanofibrous membrane with asymmetric hydrophilic/hydrophobic architecture was developed by sequential electrospinning and in situ oxidative polymerization of dopamine. The membrane consisted of a hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)@polystyrene (PS)/thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) support layer and a hydrophilic poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA)/polyamic acid (PAA) functional layer, with PDA nanoparticles uniformly deposited on the hydrophilic fiber surfaces to construct a fiber-based light-trapping photothermal architecture. The interconnected nanofibrous network promoted multiple light reflections, while the surface-confined PDA coating enhanced light absorption within the measured UV-visible range without substantially blocking the interconnected vapor transport pathways. By systematically regulating dopamine concentration and polymerization time, the PDA deposition morphology, surface wettability, pore structure, mechanical properties, and photothermal performance were effectively optimized. The optimized PDA@Janus-2.0-12 membrane exhibited a water contact angle of 49.21 ± 2.6°, a tensile strength of 7.70 ± 0.6 MPa, and a stable photothermal response under simulated solar irradiation. Under 1.0 kW m −2 solar irradiation with 35 g L −1 NaCl feed, the membrane achieved a permeate flux of 1.97 ± 0.05 L m −2 h −1 with a salt rejection of >99.99%, while maintaining an average photothermal conversion efficiency of 88.67%. The membrane also maintained stable desalination performance during 70 h of continuous PMD operation. Furthermore, the membrane retained a flux of 1.58 ± 0.04 L m −2 h −1 even at a NaCl concentration of 150 g L −1 , demonstrating excellent tolerance to highly saline feeds. These results demonstrate that the synergistic combination of fiber-based light trapping, PDA interfacial photothermal conversion, and asymmetric Janus architecture effectively balances solar energy utilization, vapor transport, and long-term structural stability, providing a promising strategy for solar-driven desalination of high-salinity NaCl brines; further evaluation toward practical complex high-salinity wastewater will be required in future work. N-doped ZnIn 2 S 4 microflowers synthesized via one-step solvothermal method using DMF as N source. • N doping introduces sulfur vacancies and negatively shifts the conduction band of ZIS. • Optimized N30-ZIS achieves H 2 O 2 production of 350 μmol g −1 h −1 under visible light. • EPR spin-trapping confirms the exclusive two-electron ORR pathway with ·O 2 − as key intermediate. • Structure-defect-activity relationship established for N-doped sulfide photocatalysts. The photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) via the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) represents a sustainable alternative to the energy-intensive anthraquinone process. However, the efficiency of this approach is limited by the rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers and a lack of active surface sites. Herein, nitrogen-doped ZnIn 2 S 4 (N-ZIS) microflowers were synthesized via a one-step solvothermal method using N , N -dimethylformamide (DMF) as the nitrogen source. The optimized N30-ZIS sample (with 30 mL of DMF) achieves an H 2 O 2 production rate of 350 μmol g −1 h −1 under visible light irradiation (λ ≥ 420 nm), which is 1.5 times that of pristine ZIS. Nitrogen doping introduces sulfur vacancies and modulates the electronic band structure, leading to enhanced charge separation and a more negative conduction band potential. Mechanistic studies confirm that H 2 O 2 generation proceeds via a two-electron oxygen reduction pathway involving ·O 2 − as the key intermediate. This work demonstrates that controlled nitrogen doping is an effective strategy to boost the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production performance of ZIS-based materials. Nitrogen-doped ZnIn 2 S 4 (N-ZIS) microflowers are synthesized via a one-step solvothermal route using DMF as the N source. The optimized N30-ZIS delivers a visible-light H 2 O 2 production rate of 350 μmol g −1 h −1 (1.5 times that of pristine ZIS). Nitrogen doping creates sulfur vacancies and downshifts the conduction band, boosting charge separation and enabling a two-electron O 2 reduction pathway with ·O 2 − as the key intermediate. This work establishes controlled N-doping as a facile strategy to enhance photocatalytic ORR for sustainable H 2 O 2 synthesis. Photo-assisted electrocatalysis has emerged as a promising strategy to break the activity limits of electrocatalysts. Here, we develop a highly efficient hybrid catalyst by loading ultra-small PtAg alloy nanoparticles (NPs) on CdS nanorods (PtAg/CdS) for hydrogen evolution reaction. The PtAg/CdS catalyst demonstrates an overpotential of 44 mV at 10 mA cm −2 in the absence of light irradiation, which significantly decreases to 17 mV under light illumination, even exceeding that of commercial Pt/C. This improved performance is attributed to the generation and effective utilization of photogenerated charges. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the formation of electron-deficient Ptδ + sites in the nanoparticles after the introduction of Ag, whereby density functional theory calculations reveal a near-optimal hydrogen adsorption free energy. In addition to providing photogenerated charges, light also modulates the electronic structure of the PtAg alloy NPs, leading to a dual optimization of charge transfer kinetics and hydrogen adsorption energy, a synergistic effect that shows the potential of light-responsive alloy catalysts. This work provides a simple and effective interface engineering strategy to enhance photo-assisted electrocatalysis by combining electrocatalysts and light absorbers, and provides a promising way for renewable hydrogen production.

Porous piezoceramics exhibit enhanced voltage output response, demonstrating significant potential for applications in piezoelectric sensors. In this study, four types of PZT-based porous ceramics with triply periodic minimal surface structures were fabricated using digital light processing (DLP). By controlling the powder morphology and debinding process, composite porous ceramics with coexisting periodic macropores and random micropores, as well as simple porous ceramics with only periodic macropores, were prepared. The results reveal that random pores more effectively reduce the permittivity, however, the increased coercive field and reduced breakdown strength lead to a significant deterioration in the piezoelectric coefficient ( d 33 ). In contrast, simple porous ceramics, featuring dense ceramic phases, exhibit higher breakdown strength and lower coercive field, enabling more effective poling. Notably, the Gyroid structure achieves a high d 33 of 585 pC/N, comparable to bulk ceramics, while the relative permittivity is significantly reduced to 706. Consequently, an outstanding piezoelectric voltage constant ( g 33 ) of 93.3 mV·m·N –1 and a high piezoelectric energy harvesting figure of merit of 54.6 × 10 –12 m 2 /N are achieved, far surpassing conventional random porous ceramics. These findings highlight that DLP technology and the development of artificial periodic porous ceramics provide a promising pathway for the design of high-performance piezoelectric devices.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) represents an exceptionally hopeful approach for cancer therapy, with two primary factors influencing its therapeutic effectiveness are the light source and the oxygen source. Because of the shallow depth of tissue penetration by visible light and the low oxygen conditions present in the hypoxia tumor microenvironment, the therapeutic outcomes are often suboptimal. To tackle this issue, This study created an innovative photodynamic drug delivery system that simultaneously achieves self-luminescence and oxygen self-supply, thereby enhancing the PDT efficacy. The system PBNCs@Vc@Luminol in this study utilizes hollow Prussian blue nanocubes (PBNCs) as the main structure, loaded with the hydrogen peroxide trigger agent (vitamin C, Vc) and the intracellular chemiluminescent agent (luminol). PBNCs@Vc@Luminol nanoparticles demonstrate superior efficiency in converting near-infrared (NIR) light to heat for in vivo photothermal tumor therapy (PTT). Additionally, they can induce luminol chemiluminescence (CL) at the tumor site in situ, which is absorbed by PBNCs via chemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (CRET), sensitizing molecular oxygen (O 2 ) triggered by Vc to produce adequate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for PDT. Experimental studies conducted demonstrated that PBNCs@Vc@Luminol nanocomposites exhibit excellent anti-tumor effects both in vitro and in vivo , facilitating the combined effects of PTT and PDT with the assistance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), thereby achieving real-time monitoring and efficient treatment of tumors.

Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) are promising candidates for building-integrated photovoltaics, but their performance is fundamentally constrained by escape-cone losses associated with isotropic luminescence. Here, we report a conical emitter array LSC that overcomes this limitations through a dual light-management mechanism combining directional emission control and reflective light redirection. High-quality Mn-doped CsPbCl3 nanocrystals (NCs), selected for their enhanced stability and large Stokes shift, are assembled into micrometer-scale conical emitters arrays via a vacuum assisted filling process and embedded in a polydimethylsiloxane waveguide. Owing to the anisotropic geometry of the conical emitters, the angular distribution of luminescence is reshaped to suppress escape-cone losses, enabling edge-collection efficiencies exceeding the theoretical trapping limit of planar LSCs. In parallel, refractive-index contrast at the emitter–matrix interface induces prism-like reflection of incident light, redirecting a fraction of non-collimated solar photons toward the device edges. As a result, a 5 × 5 × 0.5 〖cm〗^3 LSC prototype achieves an overall optical efficiency of 6.5% and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.76%, representing a ∼20% improvement over conventional LSCs with randomly dispersed NCs. This scalable conical emitter array architecture provides a viable strategy for surpassing planar LSC limits and advancing high-performance, transparent photovoltaics for building integration.

Recently, bioorthogonal reactions have been widely applied in drug delivery. However, conventional bioorthogonal reactions, such as the uncontrollable coupling between tetrazine (TZ) and trans-cyclooctene (TCO), lack effective control. To address this, we designed a light-triggered bioorthogonal system, enabling spatiotemporal control. Upon 2 min irradiation with a blue LED (20 W), T-2B was fully released from T-1B. It subsequently reacted with TCO-conjugated probes (TCO-Cy5.5) and prodrugs (TCO–DOX), enabling bioimaging and active drug release (DOX). Meanwhile, TCO–DOX exhibited greater cell permeability, leading to consistently higher intracellular concentrations both in vitro and in vivo post-TZ reactions. This strategy presents a promising approach to circumvent the existing efficacy and toxicity limitations of DOX-mediated chemoimmunotherapy. Consequently, the tumor-specific accumulation of DOX potently inhibited cell proliferation and potentiated tumor immune response in both cellular and animal models. Collectively, this work presents a feasible and effective therapeutic regimen.

Perovskite quantum dot light-emitting diodes (Pe QLEDs) hold significant application potential in next-generation displays, but the device performance remains compromised by the acidity and hygroscopicity of the widely adopted hole injection layer (HIL), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). Molybdenum oxide (MoOx) has garnered significant attention due to its excellent environmental stability; however, there is still a lack of research on the influence of different molybdenum ion contents on the physicochemical properties of molybdenum oxide itself and its application as a hole injection layer (HIL) in red Pe QLEDs. In this work, three MoOx solutions with the conduction band level from −4.70 to −5.15 eV were prepared by modulating the H2O2 ratio to regulate the Mo5+ and Mo6+ content, and different MoOx were adopted as HIL to systematically investigate the influence of energy landscapes on device performance. A gradient conduction band energy was realized, and optimal hole injection was obtained when the ratio of Mo5+ is 48.1%, with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 28.6% realized. This efficiency is comparable to that of PEDOT:PSS-based devices and represents the highest value reported for MoOx-based red Pe QLEDs. Besides, the operational stability was enhanced from 3.0 to 10.6 h, and after being stored for 48 h in a high-humidity environment, the half-life (T50) remained above 3.0 h, far exceeding that of PEDOT:PSS-based devices, which nearly lost their operational stability. The proposed MoOx-based Pe QLEDs exhibited significantly improved operational and storage stabilities.
