In-situ construction defect-rich CuNiCoS4 /1T-MoS2 heterostructures as superior electrocatalysts for water splitting

Jiaying Shen,Yefan Liu,Qianqiao Chen,Wanchin Yu,Qin Zhong

Rational design and construction of bifunctional heterostructure electrocatalysts with high-conductivity and more active sites is imperative for water splitting. Herein, based on the tunable property of layered double hydroxide laminates cations, topological transformation technology and template confine method, a series of high-performance bifunctional catalysts composed of transition metal doping NiCo 2 S 4 (MNiCoS 4 , M = Cu, Fe, Zn, Mn) and 1T-MoS 2 were in-situ fabricated on nickel foam. In particular, CuNiCoS 4 /1T-MoS 2 exhibits an ultralow overpotential of 163 mV at 50 mA cm −2 for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and favorable hydrogen evolution reaction activity. The two-electrode system requires only 1.52 V to attain a current density of 10 mA cm −2 . To the best of our knowledge, its OER electrocatalytic activity far exceed state-of-art catalysts reported. The outstanding performance of this series of catalysts can be attributed to two aspects. First, the highly conductive 1T-MoS 2 can facilitate electron transfer , and second, the defect-rich heterostructure can effectively regulate the electronic structure of the active metal and expose abundant active sites. This work provides a valuable strategy for developing high activity electrocatalysts for efficient water splitting.

Antibacterial MoS2-Ce6-Ionic Liquid Nanoplatform against Photothermal/Photodynamic Combined Therapy and Wound Healing Acceleration

Weiwei Zhang,Xiaokuo Shen,Wanzhen Li,Jun Wang,Zhao Kuang,Lin Gui,Yugui Tao,Ping Song,Fei Ge,Longbao Zhu

Drug-resistant bacterial infection is one of the major threats to human health. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria do not respond satisfactorily to conventional antibiotic treatment. Based on the photothermal effect, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoparticles, photosensitizer chlorin-e6 (Ce6), and an ionic liquid (IL) were used to construct a multifunctional nanoplatform (MoS2-Ce6-IL), which is responsive to near-infrared light (880 nm) and visible light (660 nm) with combined photothermal and photodynamic bacteriostatic activity. The characterization experiments revealed that the nanoplatform is spherical, with a ζ potential of −14.4 ± 1.1 mV, an overall particle size of about 230 nm, and a photothermal conversion efficiency of 54%. In this study, the treatment regimen was more than 93% effective against MDR Escherichia coli (E. coli) and more than 91% effective against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). It can effectively inhibit MDR bacteria and promote skin wound healing in mice infected with S. aureus. By destroying the bacterial cell membrane and DNA, the nanoplatform interferes with the metabolism of substances and energy in bacterial cells and ultimately causes the death of MDR bacteria. In this study, a multifunctional nanosystem with remarkable bacteriostatic activity was successfully synthesized. The molecular mechanism of multidrug resistance in bacteria was elucidated, laying the foundation for its clinical application.

Fabrication of a MoS2/g-C3N4@Au heterojunction-based recyclable SERS substrate for detecting fungicides

Wei Qingyi,Dong Qirong,Pu Hongbin,Sun Da-Wen

Aquaculture fungicide causes threats to the human community and their sensitive detection are thus essential for food safety. Herein, MoS 2 /g-C 3 N 4 @Au heterojunction-based recyclable SERS substrate was developed for fungicide detection. The optimal substrate exhibited good SERS performance with a detection limit as low as 9.908 × 10 −5 mg L −1 for malachite green (MG). Furthermore, an MCN@Au-based photodegradation of crystal violet (CV) under simulated light irradiation was realized, resulting in a degradation rate of 95.6%. With the dual function of the as-synthesized materials, good reusability of the substrates for at least six “detection-degradation” cycles was achieved. In addition, the MG in prawn extract could be sensitively determined with a satisfactory recovery from 91.60 to 124.00%. This work paves an avenue for the fabrication of heterojunction-based recyclable SERS substrates and provides a novel weapon for food safety protection.

3D flower-shaped g-C3N4/MoS2 composite with structure defect for synergistic degradation of dyes

Haixia Lyu,Wenzhang Zhu,Kaixuan Chen,Jun Gao,Zenghong Xie

Three dimensions (3D) flower-shaped g-C 3 N 4 /MoS 2 composite was prepared by immobilizing molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) on carbon nitride (C 3 N 4 ) with structural defects by in-situ hydrothermal assay. The morphological structure and photochemical properties of the obtained catalysts were characterized by SEM, TEM , EDS, FTIR , XRD and XPS. Using methylene blue (MB) as the target pollutant, the photocatalytic performance cyclic stability of g-C 3 N 4 /MoS 2 composite were studied under simulated sunlight. The results showed that the prepared catalyst could remove 98 % of MB within 60 min and still reached 96.4 % after 5 cycles with good stability and regeneration. Its apparent rate constant was 0.0523 min −1 , which was 11.5, 8.2 and 13.9 times higher than those of g-C 3 N 4 (0.00453 min −1 ), C 3 N 4 with structural defects (0.00635 min −1 ) and MoS 2 (0.00377 min −1 ), indicating that the synergistic effect of structural defects, heterojunctions and 3D structure has achieved efficient degradation of MB. Furthermore, the photocatalytic mechanism of g-C 3 N 4 /MoS 2 composite was proposed by combining free radical capture experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and the results showed that that ·OH and ·O 2 - played a primary role in the catalytic degradation.

CoS2-MoS2-CNT composite modified separator with enhanced LiPS adsorption capacity for lithium-sulfur battery

Lianshan Sun,Chunyu Yue,Jianxun Zhao,Peng Chen,Heng Liu,Xinwei Wang,Wanqiang Liu

The three-dimensional mesh CoS 2 -MoS 2 -CNT composite material with abundant pores was prepared by two-step hydrothermal method as CoS 2 -MoS 2 -CNT functional separator and introduced into lithium-sulfur battery. XRD , XPS and SEM tests of CoS 2 -MoS 2 -CNT proved that the material was successfully prepared, and its morphology was a three-position porous structure composed of interwoven nanotubes and nanosheets . The results of Li 2 S 6 adsorption experiment and visual penetration experiment show that CoS 2 -MoS 2 -CNT composite material has strong adsorption effect on LiPS, and can prevent LiPS from passing through the separator, which effectively inhibits the shuttle effect. CoS 2 -MoS 2 -CNT coating effectively plays the synergistic effect of each component to achieve effective fixation and transformation of LiPS, which solves the shortage of lithium-sulfur batteries. Cells with CoS 2 -MoS 2 -CNT functional separators have a high initial specific capacity (0.2C, 1411 mAh g −1 ), excellent rate performance and excellent cycle stability at large currents (0.13% attenuation per cycle at 2C).

Graphene aerogel-doped CoFe2O4/MoS2 sheets for magnetic oil absorption and the degradation of contaminants

Xin Xiang,Wenxuan Deng,Zhiyi He,Dongyun Chen,Najun Li,Qingfeng Xu,Hua Li,Jianmei Lu

In recent years, oil spills and the discharge of industrial organic wastewater have not only damaged society and the economy, but also have had a negative impact on the human environment. The composition of oily wastewater is complex and hazardous. It mainly comprises insoluble organic substances and unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. It exists in the form of oil–water mixtures, freely suspended emulsions, and stable emulsions containing surfactants. The shortage of fresh water resources and how to effectively separate oil and water present serious challenges to the scientific community. In this study, we designed a graphene aerogel with magnetic oil-absorbing functionality, which not only has emulsion-breaking functionality, but also can repeatedly adsorb organic pollutants . More importantly, it exhibits a strong Fenton catalytic effect and can effectively degrade pollutants. The aerogel designed in this research integrates adsorption, catalysis and degradation, and exhibits excellent purification of wastewater containing pollutants such as dyes, antibiotics and aromatic hydrocarbons , providing a novel insight into the treatment of oily wastewater.

Few-Layered Defect-Rich MoS2 Nanosheets with Ni Doping as Catalysts for Efficient Hydrodesulfurization Reaction

Jiaxing Chen,Shufang Wu,Xinlin Zhang,Yongjun Liu

Unsupported MoS2 nanosheets are promising hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalysts that can effectively convert sulfur species in diesel to hydrocarbons and H2S during the production process of fossil fuels. However, the active site density of MoS2-based catalysts is limited due to the existence of a large amount of inert basal planes, hindering the improvement of MoS2 HDS activity. Herein, a strategy that combines defect control and metal doping is proposed to boost the catalytic activity of unsupported MoS2 nanosheets. By adjusting hydrothermal reaction conditions, few-layered defect-rich MoS2 (DR-MoS2(FL)) is synthesized to significantly enhance the HDS efficiency, which is further improved by incorporating Ni atoms in basal planes, achieving the highest thiophene conversion of 92.3% at 280 °C. Moreover, the Ni-doped DR-MoS2(FL) catalyst exhibits excellent stability with the high activity retained in the recycling reaction. The effect of Ni dopants on the electronic structure and adsorption behavior of the MoS2 basal planes is demonstrated by density functional theory calculation. This work reveals a facile method to tailor the basal planes with the formation of more Ni–Mo–S active sites for highly efficient MoS2 HDS catalysts.

Ying Chen,Hongmei Liu,Xiuting Li,Shiwei Tang,Chenjie Gu,Guodong Wei,Tao Jiang,Xingfei Zhou

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) with promising photocatalytic activity has attracted great attention in constructing recyclable SERS substrate. Reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was chose here to in-situ grow MoS 2 nanoflowers and effectively adjust the active area of the substrate. After the decoration of Ag nanoparticles by photo-reduction, a sophisticated RGO@MoS 2 @Ag ternary nanocomposite with a maximizing SERS enhancement factor (EF) of 8.6 × 10 6 and a prominent solar photocatalytic efficiency was demonstrated. Such superior features of the nanocomposite were revealed to be endowed by the synergistic effect of the three components including the active sites of MoS 2 , the “Schottky barrier” and “hot spots” between MoS 2 and Ag, together with the molecular enrichment surface and chemical enhancement ability of RGO . An ultra-sensitive SERS-based detection and a reliable photocatalytic degradation of mixed trace molecules were finally achieved by the developed optimal ternary nanocomposite, which can meet manifold requirements for the routine supervision of biochemical molecules.

Enhanced visualizing charge distribution of 2D/2D MXene/MoS2 heterostructure for excellent microwave absorption performance

Xiao Li,Caiyue Wen,Liting Yang,Ruixuan Zhang,Yuesheng Li,Renchao Che

The unique 2D/2D heterostructures can fully combine their respective 2D properties and exhibit enhanced performance due to its synergistic effect. However, how to effectively introduce other foreign 2D materials on the 2D MXene substrate, as well as research on their detailed synergistic effects, is still in lack. Herein, 3D conductive interconnected network with massive 2D/2D heterostructures in MXene-MoS 2 composites are constructed by a facile hydrothermal reaction , and the microwave absorption mechanism accompanying the synergistic effect is detailed analyzed. Impressively, the unique off-axis electron holography is firstly used to visually characterize the distribution of charge density at the 2D interface, which constructs an effective relationship between the charge density distribution at the 2D/2D heterostructures and the strength of the microwave absorption performance. In addition, the confined space provided by each independent accordion-like multilayered MXene facilitates the heterogeneous coupling between the layers to increase its dielectric loss capability. Accordingly, the MXene-MoS 2 composite holds the excellent microwave absorption performance accompanied by the superior reflection loss (RL) (−46.72 dB) and the distinct effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) (4.32 GHz) at only 2 mm thickness. This work refers an archetype for studying the synergistic effect between 2D/2D heterostructures.

A subtle functional design of hollow CoP@MoS2 hetero-nanoframes with excellent hydrogen evolution performance

Tianyu Xia,Liang Zhou,Shuaiqi Gu,Han Gao,Xiaoyan Ren,Shunfang Li,Rongming Wang,Haizhong Guo

As the star material among nonprecious electrocatalysts, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) has received much attention. However, the catalytic inertness of the basal plane, low conductivity of its steady state (2H phase), and the agglomeration of lamellar structures have seriously hindered its catalytic performance. It is very essential to design and modulate the morphology and phase of MoS 2 to improve the above issues by synergistic regulation of electrical structure and defect engineering. Herein, MoS 2 was delicately composited on CoP nanoframe derived from a typical metal–organic frame nanostructure (ZIF-67), forming the hollow CoP@MoS 2 hetero-nanoframe. This exquisite externally layered and internally hollow CoP@MoS 2 electrocatalyst demonstrated excellent catalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction, with a low overpotential of 119 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , a small Tafel slope of 49 mV dec −1 , a large electric double-layer capacitance of 10.28 mF cm −2 , and prominent long-term stability. The remarkable catalytic performance of hollow CoP@MoS 2 hetero-nanoframe can be attributed to the unique architecture of the hetero-nanostructures, appropriate component ratios, strong interaction between CoP and MoS 2 , and large-scale defects and disorder. First-principles density-functional theory calculations can prove the above arguments adequately, the hydrogen adsorption free energy of CoP@MoS 2 is close to zero.

Highly Sensitive and Selective Photoelectrochemical Aptasensors for Cancer Biomarkers Based on MoS2/Au/GaN Photoelectrodes

Danli Hu,Haiyan Cui,Xinyang Wang,Fang Luo,Bin Qiu,Weicheng Cai,Hui Huang,Jian Wang,Zhenyu Lin

An Au/GaN photoelectrode was prepared by sputtering 30 nm thick Au film on the surface of n-type gallium nitride (GaN). When the electrode contacts with multilayered molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), photogenerated electrons and photogenerated holes transfer to MoS2 because of the band gap matching of MoS2 and GaN. The presence of Au promotes charge transfer and results in a greater recombination of electrons and holes; by this means, a more significant suppression of photocurrent can be detected. This characteristic has been coupled with the high selectivity of an aptamer and applied to develop a novel photoelectrochemical aptasensor for cancer biomarkers (alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) as a model). The aptamer of AFP was modified on the surface of the Au/GaN photoelectrode by Au–S bonds, which can bind to the target protein with high selectivity. Then, the transfer process of the charge carriers of GaN to MoS2 can be blocked by the target protein so that the suppression of photocurrent is reduced. The difference of the photocurrent in the presence and absence of AFP (ΔI) showed a linear relationship with AFP concentration that ranged from 1.0–150 ng/mL (R2 = 0.9995), and the detection limit was 0.3 ng/mL. The standard addition recovery rates ranged from 85.2 to 91.7%. The method possessed good sensitivity and high selectivity for AFP detection. The developed biosensor can be modified to detect other cancer biomarkers by simply replacing the aptamer used.

Efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production of ternary composite constituted by cubic CdS, MoS2 and activated carbon

Jiangfan Sun,Mingcai Yin,Yixian Li,Kaiyue Liang,Yaoting Fan,Zhongjun Li

CdS is a promising photocatalyst and combining MoS 2 with CdS can realize efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production. However, most of the previous researches about MoS 2 /CdS composites focus on hexagonal CdS. Studies on cubic CdS are still rare due to its unstability. Thus in this paper, a ternary composite CdS-MoS 2 /C (abbreviated as CdS-MC, M = MoS 2 , C = activated carbon) was synthesized by facile in-situ liquid phase precipitation of cubic CdS on MoS 2 /C. Based on a series of characterizations, its photocatalytic hydrogen production performance was studied. Under the irradiation of a LED lamp , a high H 2 evolution activity of 879.6 μmol h −1 was achieved for the composite CdS-10%MC, which is 23.3 times that of pure CdS. In addition, its performance is much higher than that of the hexagonal CdS-MC sample (265.6 μmol/h) obtained by heat-treatment of CdS-MC at 400 °C for 1 h under N 2 atmosphere. What’s more, the stability of CdS-MC was investigated and the possible reasons for its unstability were analyzed in detail. To improve the stability, a method of 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) modification was also managed. Finally, possible mechanism for the photocatalytic hydrogen production of CdS-MC was proposed.
