Stimuli-response materials have attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications in sensoring, smart coatings, and intelligent devices. Herein a novel thermo-photo staged response shape memory poly(aryl ether ketone) bearing flexible alkyl segments and azobenzene groups was successfully designed and synthesized. Its chemical structure, thermostability and mechanical properties were characterized through Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis. The resultant polymer disclosed thermo-/photo-dual stimuli-response behaviors, ascribed to its unique chemical structure. Firstly, the polymer film exhibited good thermal response shape memory effect with satisfied shape fixity ratio ( R f ) and shape recovery ratio ( R r ) (>99%). Moreover, an interesting photo-thermo two-staged responsive shape memory behavior with bending deformation over 100° upon the exposure of ultraviolet light and recovering to its original state through thermal treatment was revealed, attributed to the transcis isomerization of azobenzene groups.

A hollow polyhedral structure can effectively capture light and facilitate carrier separation, thus enhancing photocatalytic performance. Herein, hollow cubic CdS@CoS/WS2 dual S-scheme heterojunction superstructure photocatalysts are fabricated using a simple sulfidation and hydrothermal method. CdS@CoS/WS2 with a band gap of 1.59 eV and a relatively narrow band gap broadens the photoreaction to the near-infrared region and shows a good photothermal effect, which can promote photocatalytic reactions. It shows a relative specific surface area of 91.58 m2 g−1, which provides abundant surface-active sites to enhance the photocatalytic reaction. Under light conditions, the photocatalytic degradation ratios of CdS@CoS/WS2 for tetracycline and bisphenol A are up to 98.9 and 99.1%, and the hydrogen evolution efficiency is also up to 10.62 mmol h−1 g−1. The enhanced photothermal–photocatalytic performance could be due to the formation of a dual S-scheme heterojunction superstructure that facilitates space charge separation, a narrow band gap and a mesoporous hollow structure promoting solar light utilization, providing abundant surface-active sites and enhanced mass transfer. This simple strategy provides a new idea for the construction of high-performance hollow superstructure photocatalysts.

A series of porous S-doped carbon nitride ribbons (PSCN) were prepared by one-pot hydrothermal and sonochemical synthesis techniques. The morphologies and nanostructures of the catalysts were characterized by SEM, XRD and IR, which confirmed the pristine graphitic structures of carbon nitrides retained in the products. Due to sonication treatment, PSCN has porous structures in the thin ribbon and larger specific surface areas (PSCN 43.5 m 2 /g, SCN 26.6 m 2 /g and GCN 6.5 m 2 /g). XPS and elemental mappings verified that sulfur atoms were successfully introduced into the carbon nitride framework. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) results showed S-doping in the carbon nitride reduced the bandgap energy and enhanced their capability of the utilization of visible light, which contributed to higher photo-generated current. Photoluminescence (PL) analysis indicates the recombination of photogenerated carriers was suppressed in PSCN. Moreover, the photocatalytic performance showed that S-doping and porous and thin ribbon nanostructures may effectively boost the CO 2 reduction rate (to as much as 5.8 times of GCN) when illuminated by visible light (>420 nm) without the need of sacrificial materials. The preliminary mechanisms of the formation of PSCN and its applications in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction are proposed. It highlights the potential of the current technique to produce effective, nonmetal-doped carbon nitride photocatalysts.

Heteroanionic materials are of current research interest owing to their varied structural chemistry and properties. Recently, a number of heteroanionic materials have been synthesized that can be used for water splitting, battery materials, thermoelectrics , and nonlinear optical applications. Birefringent heteroanionic materials are still rarely researched. Herein, we report a series of new oxychalcogenides, AGe 2 O 4 Q (A = Ba, Sr; Q = S, Se), that are synthesized by solid-state reactions in fused silica tubes with their structures determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Optical property measurements show that AGe 2 O 4 Q (A = Ba, Sr; Q = S, Se) exhibit large birefringences , 0.13–0.19 @ 1064 nm. These are one-order of magnitude larger than their single-anionic homologue, BaGe 2 O 5 - 0.03 @ 1064 nm. This suggests that constructing heteroanions through using chalcogenides to partially substitute O in tetrahedral foundation building units (FBUs) is a viable method for designing new birefringent materials. Furthermore, the crystal structures, UV–vis–NIR diffuse reflectance spectra, infrared and Raman spectra as well as the first-principles calculations for AGe 2 O 4 Q (A = Ba, Sr; Q = S, Se) are also reported.

In this paper, graphene-supported S-doped cobalt molybdate composite (S-CoMoO 4 /GR) was prepared by a simple in situ hydrothermal method. X-ray diffractometer (XRD) was employed to determine the component, which verified that S was doped in the CoMoO 4 . X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), N 2 adsorption-desorption analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the surface valence state, microstructure and the morphology of the composite, which demonstrated that S-CoMoO 4 was dispersed on the carrier of GR with small plate morphology. Then, the composite was applied on the surface of glassy carbon electrode with oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance investigated by different electrochemical technologies including linear sweep voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and i-t tests. The results demonstrate that the prepared catalyst needs an overpotential of 354 mV to achieve the current density of 10 mA cm −2 (η 10 ) and presents good long-term stability with a negligible current decrease in 30 h i-t test, verifying its good OER performance.

Coordination CIS-EDTA-CdS S-scheme heterojunction for PEC cathodic protection. • EDTA: bifunctional layer, passivating defects and modulating band positions. • S-scheme charge transfer enhances carrier separation and suppresses recombination. The development of photoanodes combining broad-spectrum light response with efficient charge separation is crucial for photoelectrochemical cathodic protection. In this work, an atomic-scale S-scheme heterojunction was constructed between narrow-bandgap CuInS₂ (CIS) and CdS via coordination-bond interface engineering. Specifically, EDTA was first employed as a small-molecule bridging agent to passivate dangling bonds and surface defects on CIS through coordination interactions. Subsequently, CdS was grown in situ onto the CIS-EDTA surface, yielding the CIS-EDTA-CdS composite photoanode. Results demonstrate that EDTA modification not only suppresses non-radiative recombination but also directionally tailors the band structure of CIS, transforming the heterojunction from a Type-I to an S-scheme configuration. The optimized composite photoanode achieves a photocurrent density of 1.3 mA·cm⁻² under light and shifts the corrosion potential of the coupled 304 stainless steel to −1.15 V (vs. NHE). Mechanistic investigations reveal that the S-scheme charge-transfer pathway promotes the recombination of conduction-band electrons from CdS with valence-band holes from CIS-EDTA, while preserving the high-energy electrons on the CIS-EDTA side for effective cathodic protection. This study provides a new paradigm for the application of atomic-scale interface engineering in photoelectrochemical anticorrosion, highlighting the potential of coordination-bridge strategies in designing high-performance photoanodes. The S-scheme heterojunctions can effectively separate photogenerated electrons and holes, retain their high redox capacity, and provide great prospects for enhancing the photocatalytic activity of the composites in different fields. Herein, S-scheme heterojunction photocatalytic materials were rationally designed and prepared by a simple hydrothermal method between narrow-bandgap red phosphorus (HRP) and wide-bandgap BaTiO 3 (BTO) photocatalysts. Owing to the effective charge separation and redox ability from the S-scheme mechanism and oxygen vacancies, BTO/HRP exhibited good photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic degradation ability. Systematic photoreaction tests demonstrated that BTO/HRP had high practicality in the removal of pollutants from wastewater; its photodegradation rate of Rhodamine B reached 3.029 × 10 −1 min −1 in 12 min; and it could inactivate 1.8 × 10 9 CFU/mL of Escherichia. coli in 1 h, with an antibacterial rate of 99.8%. This paper provided a promising photocatalyst for pollutant removal and a new strategy for the fabrication of efficient RP-based photocatalytic materials.

Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) have widely attracted significant attention due to the excellent mechanical performance, biodegradability, and high surface functionality. However, the high flammability of CNFs commonly restricts their wider application. In this study, the intrinsically flame-resistant holocellulose nanofibrils (HCNFs, which is rich in both cellulose and hemicellulose) were obtained from bamboo under pretreatment using a highly efficient ternary deep eutectic solvent (TDES) and subsequential mechanical homogenization. The phytates and sulfate-containing HCNFs (PHCNFs) displayed nanofibril diameter of 3–5 nm and high aspect ratio of (∼500), and the aqueous suspension exhibited colloidal stability and high transmittance. The PHCNF films exhibited excellent fire resistance, mechanical and optical properties. Compared with raw HCNF, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of PHCNF-120 film was up to 52.5 %, and the total heat release (THR) and peak heat release rate (PHRR) of PHCNF-120 films were significantly reduced by 92.2 % and 82.4 %, respectively. The flame retardant mechanism was attributed to the synergistic effect of P/N/S in both condensed phase and gaseous phases during the burning process. This work provides a novel, efficient strategy for developing eco-friendly flame-resistant and fireproof holocellulose-based nanomaterials.

Solar-driven interface evaporation is promising to alleviate the fresh water scarcity in an economical and sustainable way. However, most of currently reported photothermal conversion materials (PMs) are time-consuming costly, inefficient, or complex preparation process, which causes low utilization efficiency, and difficult to be practical for large-scale application. To solve this problem, a facile and green strategy for preparing hydrogel evaporator (SiO 2 -PILs/starch) by grafting poly(ionic liquid)s onto silica and doping it with starch is proposed. Benefiting from the broad solar absorption ( ca. 91 %), strong hydrophilic, and superb salt tolerance and stain resistance of SiO 2 -PILs/starch. Under 1 sun irradiation, the SiO 2 -PILs/starch achieves a remarkable solar evaporation efficiency of 91.72 % in pure water and 81.45 % in 20 wt% NaCl solution, respectively. In particular, SiO 2 -PILs/starch exhibited outstanding long-term salt stability (8 h) and crystalline salt can be self-cleaned in the dark environment. It is worth noting that the prepared hydrogel also possesses a satisfied evaporation efficiency of 75.84 % in oily wastewater (3 wt% n -hexadecane solution) due to its excellent water retention. These properties of SiO 2 -PILs/starch may provide desperately needed solution for efficient desalination and guaranteed high applicability and durability in practice.

Recycling gold from e-waste is not only beneficial to environmental protection, but also to resource sustainability. However, it remains a great challenge due to the limitations of high cost, lengthy balance process and the interference of coexisting metals. Herein, a family of low-cost, nitrogen-rich content and acid-stable imidazolium-based poly(ionic liquid)s, designated as P(nDVB-mVBIMCl)s, were synthesized for recovery of gold from e-waste. The obtained P(2DVB-8VBIMCl)s achieves outstanding adsorption capacity (820.5 mg·g −1 ) and rapid equilibrium time (15 min) and satisfactory reusability (more than 8 cycles). XPS, EDS and ion chromatography revealed that the excellent adsorption performance was attributed to synergistic effect of ion exchange and chemical reduction. In addition, the P(2DVB-8VBIMCl)s showed excellent selectivity for gold in actual e-waste leaching solution, exhibited satisfactory selectivity coefficient for Fe 3+ (1.46 × 10 4 ) and Ni 2+ (1.12 × 10 4 ), obtaining 23.4 karat high-purity gold after calcination. In addition, the P(2DVB-8VBIMCl)s shows its good economic feasibility. Overall, this work provides a feasible adsorbent, which becomes a promising candidate for industrial gold recovery from e-waste.

For effective gene delivery to breast cancer MCF-7 cells, a folate-targeting redox gene carrier was synthesized by Michael addition polymerization between 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine and N,N′-cystaminebisacrylamide. Folate was then conjugated through an amidation reaction. The obtained folate-modified hyperbranched poly(amido amine)s (FA-PAAs) degraded in the presence of glutathione and displayed excellent transfection efficiency in vitro. In particular, FA-PAAs showed much higher gene delivery efficiency than PEI-25k in the presence of serum, leading to an obvious decrease in MMP-9 protein expression and the apoptosis of MCF-7 cells. Moreover, FA-PAAs displayed lower cytotoxicity and better blood compatibility than PEI-25k, suggesting a potential application in gene therapy for tumors.

Developing transparent conductors to replace indium tin oxide (ITO) is a critical objective in the field of organic optoelectronics. Non-atomically doped (NAD) ZnO thin films, while currently exhibiting limited conductivity, are highly promising candidates due to their unique advantages, such as having complete transparency in both the visible and near-infrared spectral regions, solution processability, and the desired surface electronic properties. In this work, the impact of surface modification by insulating polymers on the ultraviolet-enhanced conductivity of NAD-ZnO films is investigated. It was found that polymer modifiers that are rich in amino and hydroxyl groups are effective at increasing the concentration of oxygen vacancies and the conductivity of NAD-ZnO films. The highest conductivity of over 1000 S cm–1, which is more than twice as high as the previous record for NAD-ZnO films, is achieved using polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) to modify NAD-ZnO films. Subsequently, the replacement of ITO in organic photovoltaic devices by a ZnO/PEIE electrode is realized. The ZnO/PEIE-based OPV devices that were created exhibit performances comparable to those of ITO-based devices under simulated solar illumination and performances better than those achieved with ITO-based devices under simulated indoor illumination. These results make NAD-ZnO a promising candidate for the widespread replacement of ITO in optoelectronic devices.
