The buried interface in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) plays a pivotal role in charge transfer and device stability, simultaneously influencing perovskite film growth. Here, we employ guanidine sulfamate (GAS) as a multifunctional passivator to simultaneously modify the SnO 2 electron transport layer (ETL) and perovskite bottom surface, significantly enhancing the performance of n-i-p structured PSCs. Computational results indicate that GAS molecules effectively bind to defect sites and significantly increase the energy barriers for defect formation, thereby suppressing the generation of V I , Pb I , and Pb i defects. Experimentally, we demonstrate that this binding mechanism involves the sulfonate groups (-SO 3 H) of GAS forming stable coordination bonds with undercoordinated Sn 4+ sites and oxygen vacancies in the SnO 2 ETL. This effectively passivates these defects and reduces their concentration within the SnO 2 lattice. Concurrently, the guanidinium cations (-NH 2 ) establish strong coordination bonds with uncoordinated Pb 2+ or I − ions in the perovskite layer, decreasing defect states at grain boundaries and interfaces, thereby suppressing non-radiative recombination. As a result, GAS-modified perovskite devices from ambient-air-process achieve a high open-circuit voltage ( V OC ) of 1.157 V and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of nearly 24.00 %. Furthermore, compared to control devices, GAS-based PSCs exhibit superior ambient stability.

Issues of charges transfer at the SSI interface have been studied in depth. • The carrier separation efficiency was improved by introduce SnO 2 at SSI interface. • Coherent boundary at SSI can strikingly reducing the charge transfer resistance. • Ov-ZnO provide enough active sites for the OER beneficial to the mass transfer. • An excellent stable photocurrent density of 1.13 mA cm −2 is generated at 1.2 V. Efficient extraction of photogenerated electrons across the semiconductor/conductive-substrate interface is essential for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation, yet this interface is often less considered than bulk and surface charge-transfer processes. Herein, oxygen-vacancy-enriched ZnO nanorods (Ov-ZnO NRs) were grown on three-dimensionally ordered SnO 2 inverse-opal skeletons to construct a hierarchical SnO 2 IOs/Ov-ZnO photoanode. The interconnected SnO 2 inverse opal simultaneously provides a conductive framework and enhances light harvesting through multiple scattering and slow-photon effects, while its crystallographic compatibility with the FTO substrate alleviates electron-transfer losses at the semiconductor/substrate interface. The one-dimensional Ov-ZnO NRs provide short carrier-transport pathways, a large electrode/electrolyte contact area, and defect-mediated active sites for water oxidation. The optimized photoanode delivered a photocurrent density of 1.13 mA cm −2 at 1.2 V vs. RHE, approximately 3.3 times that of the flat SnO 2 /ZnO NRs reference (0.34 mA cm −2 ), together with an applied-bias photon-to-current efficiency of 0.274% at 0.80 V vs. RHE. Its bulk charge-separation and surface charge-injection efficiencies reached 53.3% and 71%, respectively, at 1.2 V vs. RHE. Spectroscopic, electrochemical, and density functional theory analyses collectively indicate enhanced interfacial charge redistribution, lower charge-transfer resistance, and more favorable OER energetics. These results establish the coordinated engineering of the conductive substrate interface, photonic architecture, and oxygen-vacancy defects as an effective strategy for improving ZnO-based PEC photoanodes. With the rapid development of the hydrogen energy economy, there is an increasingly urgent demand for low-power-consumption and integrable sensors capable of accurate and real-time monitoring of hydrogen (H2). In this study, SnO2 nanoparticles rich in oxygen vacancies were successfully prepared via a metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived method. Based on this, highly dispersed Pt-modified SnO2 nanoparticles were fabricated using a two-step annealing method, and a MEMS H2 sensor with high response and low power consumption was developed. Studies have shown that the 0.5%Pt-SnMOF/600-SnO2 sensor exhibits a high response of 31.5 to 100 ppm of H2 at an operating temperature of 201 °C, which is 2.7 times that of the SnMOF/600-SnO2 sensor (with an optimal operating temperature of 244 °C), and its power consumption is only 22.1 mW. Furthermore, this sensor demonstrates excellent comprehensive performance, including an extremely low limit of detection of 73.6 ppb, outstanding selectivity, and good long-term stability. Mechanistic studies indicate that the enhancement of gas-sensing performance is due to a combination of factors: plentiful oxygen vacancies, the role of Pt in promoting oxygen reactions, and its effect on the material’s electronic properties.

In this study, a novel composite particle electrode was fabricated by anchoring antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles onto a carbon black/polytetrafluoroethylene (CB-PTFE) matrix to construct a continuous-flow 3D electro-oxidation system for tetracycline (TC) degradation. Characterization results confirmed the formation of a hierarchical porous structure with uniformly distributed rutile ATO crystals, which provided abundant active sites. Under optimized conditions (CB:ATO mass ratio of 1:1, voltage of 10.5 V, pH of 3.65, and HRT of 16.67 min), the system achieved a remarkable TC removal efficiency of 98.19%, significantly outperforming the pristine CB-PTFE and 2D control systems. Mechanistic investigations via radical scavenging experiments revealed a dual-pathway mechanism, where the degradation was driven by the synergistic coupling of reactive oxygen species (primarily O 2 · − and · OH) and a robust direct electron transfer (DET) process on the electrode surface. Furthermore, the particle electrodes exhibited excellent mechanical and chemical stability, maintaining approximately 77% degradation efficiency after 24 h of continuous-flow operation. This work provides a promising strategy for designing high-performance 3D electrodes and offers theoretical insights into the complex oxidation mechanisms in antibiotic wastewater remediation.

Work-function differences between SnO 2 and SnSe 2 induces interfacial band bending and constructing a built-in electric field • The BIEF enriches electrons on Sn sites for strong adsorption, while populating Li- S antibonding orbitals to weaken the bonds • Complementary barriers of SnO 2 /SnSe 2 with HCNF anchoring/buffering enable Li-S battery high capacity and long cycling The shuttle effect and sluggish conversion kinetics of polysulfides severely hinder the practical application of lithium‑sulfur (Li S) batteries. In this work, a novel SnO 2 /SnSe 2 heterostructure anchored on helical carbon nanofibers (HCNFs) is designed and fabricated as a sulfur cathode host (SnO 2 /SnSe 2 @HCNFs//S). The differences in electronegativity and ionic radius between oxygen and selenium drive interfacial electron transfer and generate a built-in electric field (BIEF), endowing the heterojunction with an electronic configuration that combines strong overall adsorption and weak Li S bonds, thereby breaking the conventional balances between adsorption strength and catalytic activity. SnO 2 exhibits a lower energy barrier for the S 8 to Li 2 S n conversion, while SnSe 2 shows a lower barrier for the Li 2 S n to Li 2 S conversion, demonstrating complementary functions, and the BIEF further reduces the overall energy barrier of the multistep reduction to the lowest level. The defect sites of the helical carbon fibers ensure highly dispersed loading of the heterojunction, and the spring-like helical morphology buffers volume expansion and maintains long-term cycling stability. The SnO 2 /SnSe 2 @HCNFs//S cathode delivers an outstanding discharge specific capacity of 1008.2 mAh g −1 at 0.2C, retains over 99.7% of coulombic efficiency after 200 cycles at 0.2C, and a rate performance of 932.4 mAh g −1 even at 2.0C, with rate and cycling performance significantly superior to those of single-phase materials and control samples. This work provides an effective strategy for the rational design of high-performance sulfur hosts for Li S batteries. Helical carbon nanofibers (HCNFs) with abundant defect sites serve as a substrate for anchoring SnO 2 /SnSe 2 heterojunction nanoparticles, ensuring highly dispersed exposure. Work function mismatch drives electron transfer from SnSe 2 to SnO 2 , enhancing Sn S adsorption while injecting electrons into Li S antibonding orbitals to weaken bonds. SnO 2 lowers reaction barrier from S 8 to Li 2 S n , and SnSe 2 lowers barrier from Li 2 S n to Li 2 S, and the built-in electric field further reduces the multistep energy barrier of sulfur conversions, thereby achieving efficient polysulfide adsorption and catalytic conversion. SnO 2 gas sensors have attracted significant interest for formaldehyde detection due to their real-time monitoring capabilities, cost-effectiveness, and portability. However, low sensitivity, poor selectivity, and limited long-term stability remain critical challenges for trace-level formaldehyde detection. Here, the synthesis of SnO 2 nanowires with preferentially exposed high-energy (211) facets and abundant (101) twin defects via a solvothermal approach is reported. Gas-sensing evaluations revealed that sensors constructed from these nanowires, particularly those with maximized exposure of (211) facets and (101) twin defects, exhibited an impressive response of 15.2 toward 10 ppm formaldehyde. Notably, these sensors demonstrated exceptional selectivity for formaldehyde against interfering gases, including methanol, toluene, ammonia, formic acid, acetone, and ethanol, with a detection limit as low as 59 ppb and robust long-term stability. The enhanced formaldehyde sensing performance is attributed to two synergistic effects: i) the increased density of active sites for oxygen adsorption on the high-energy (211) crystal facets, which possess abundant atomic steps, and ii) the Schottky barrier at the twin boundaries, which broadens the depletion layer and accelerates electron transfer through its intrinsic electric field. These findings highlight the promising strategy of engineering high-energy crystal facets and twin defects to significantly elevate the gas-sensing performance of semiconductor nanomaterials.

Antimony selenosulfide (Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 ) solar cells hold significant promise for sustainable photovoltaic technology due to their adjustable band gap, high absorption coefficient and good stability. In terms of device operation, the transfer of electrons from the Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 layer to the electron transport layer (ETL) plays a crucial role in improving the photovoltaic performance of solar cells. Until now, high-efficiency Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 solar cells have typically employed cadmium sulfide (CdS) as the ETL. However, inadequate interface contact between the CdS and the Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 layer often results in severe interface recombination, and the parasitic light absorption of CdS restricts the short-circuit current density ( J sc ). Therefore, the development of high-quality CdS film along with reduction of cadmium element usage remains an import issue for the Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 solar cells. Herein, the poly(acrylic acid)-modified tin oxide (PAA-SnO 2 )/CdS double ETLs are introduced to improve the quality of both the CdS film and Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 film, while also strengthening the interface contact between CdS and Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 . The power conversion efficiency of the corresponding solar cells increases from 7.45% in the control device to 8.15% in the modified device. This work provides a simple PAA-modified SnO 2 -assisted CdS ETL strategy to improve the interface of CdS/Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 , thereby achieving efficient and stable Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 solar cells.

Liquid metal microspheres are pivotal in biomedicine, catalysis, and microfluidics, yet their synthesis via membrane emulsification remains hindered by high surface tension and poorly controlled pore sizes in conventional metal membranes, leading to nonuniform microspheres. Addressing this, we developed a ceramic–metal composite membrane using 2D SnO2 with blade-shaped pore walls and tunable pores (0.68–7.92 μm) via in situ hydrothermal synthesis. The blade-shaped pore walls reduce liquid metal surface tension, enabling smooth extrusion through pores while suppressing aggregation. This design leverages the membrane’s large metal contact angle and structural robustness to enhance emulsification under harsh conditions. The resultant microspheres exhibit precise size control (average particle size: 8.79–35.89 μm) and narrow distribution (Span: 0.41–0.84), outperforming traditional methods. By integrating adjustable pore engineering with ceramic–metal interfaces, this work establishes a scalable strategy for fabricating functional membranes tailored to high-surface-tension systems.

The strong reducing ability of ascorbic acid (AA) usually resulted in a limited linear detection range. To address the defect, a colorimetric sensor was constructed using an in-situ generated absorbance indicator. The SnO 2 /carbon dots (Sn-CDs) displayed high peroxidase-like (POD) activity, which could oxidize o-phenylenediamine (oPD) to ox-oPD (450 nm), and the absorbance at 450 nm decreased as the concentration of AA increased. The dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) formed by the oxidation of AA further reacted with oPD to produce 3-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl) furo [3,4- b ] quinoxalin-1(3 H )-one (DFQ, at 336 nm absorbance). And the absorbance at 336 nm increased as the concentration of AA increased. Based on the two signals, the DFQ signal offered two broader detection ranges (5.62–131.03 μM and 2.84–28.39 mM) and a lower limit of detection (0.88 μM) than the ox-oPD signal (16.54–51.62 μM, 6.88 μM). And the colorimetric sensor based on 336 nm DFQ signal exhibited a higher anti-interfering ability in complex environments. In the practical samples (Vitamin C tablets, orange, and lemon), the concentrations of AA detected by colorimetric sensor was close to that detected by high-performance liquid chromatography, which indicated that constructed sensor exhibited superior precision and practicality. The study not only presented a valuable tool for the detection of AA, but also offered a novel strategy for highly selective colorimetric sensors.

Tin dioxide (SnO 2 ) have been considered to be a promising anode material for high performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high lithium storage capacity of as high as 1494 mAh g −1 , which has been impeded greatly due to its large volumetric expansion and low conductivity. Thus, the simple but effective approach for the fabrication of SnO 2 -based material is ever-urgent. To this end, the mesoporous SnO 2 @N-rGO nanocomposites were designed and fabricated by a simple and scalable electrostatic self-assembly method and investigated electrochemically as anode for LIBs. The results show that the as-obtained mesoporous SnO 2 @N-rGO nanocomposites exhibit an excellent cycling stability and outstanding rate capability after an initial activation due to the formation of SEI layer on the surface, which are mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of nano-SnO 2 , high conductive N-doped rGO matrix network and rich mesopores. Therefore, this work offers an ingenious strategy to design and fabricate the SnO 2 -based anode material for high performance lithium-ion batteries.

The potential prospect of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) in the fields of polymer composites is severely limited by undesirable exfoliation efficiency and chemical inertness. Herein, bio-based dopamine was employed toward exfoliating bulk h-BN with hydrogen bond action and imparting a highly-active surface. With assistance of polypodamine, SnO 2 nanoparticles were in-situ synthesized and strengthened the interfacial interaction between h-BN and epoxy (EP) matrix. The integrated function of metal oxide/h-BN toward flame retardant and smoke suppression of polymer materials was firstly studied and obtained, in term of reduced peak heat release rate (decreased by 41.1%), lower total heat release (decreased by 30.1%), and suppressed total smoke production (decreased by 21.6%). In addition, the mechanism for enhancements on flame retardant and smoke suppression of EP composites was systematically investigated. Such a design route simultaneously achieves the exfoliation and functionalization of h-BN, thus offering an active platform for further functionalization modification.

The development of advanced thermal management materials with combined high thermal conductivity and effective infrared stealth remains a critical challenge for aerospace avionics. We fabricate a superhydrophobic SnO₂/carbon nanotube (CNTs) composite coating on aluminum substrates via a facile spraying method. The optimized composite exhibits a water contact angle of 159.4°, attributed to the hierarchical micro−/nanostructure formed by SnO₂ particles and CNT networks. The interconnected CNT network establishes efficient in-plane thermal pathways within the coating. The overall effective thermal conductivity has increased, mainly due to improvements in carbon nanotube permeation networks and interfacial heat transfer. Spectral emissivity measurements in the 8–14 μm atmospheric window show that the coating reduces the average emissivity from 0.85 to 0.51, corresponding to a theoretical reduction in radiative signal of approximately 40%, thereby significantly lowering the infrared signature. The coating also demonstrates excellent environmental durability, retaining hydrophobicity under mechanical abrasion, extreme pH, and temperatures up to 140 °C. This multifunctional coating shows promising potential for thermal management, infrared stealth, and surface protection in harsh operational environments.
