Contamination of heavy metals has always been a pressing concern. The dry-wet alternately treated carboxymethylcellulose bentonite (DW-CB) was successfully prepared by intercalating bentonite (BT) with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) obtained by solvent processes using enzymatically digested wastepaper as cellulosic raw material, and the adsorption capacity of Cu 2+ on DW-CB in aqueous solution was investigated. A 98.18 ± 2.31 % removal efficiency was achieved by 4 g/L of DW-CB after 8 h in a solution containing 100 mg/L of Cu 2+ , which were 4.1 times and 1.5 times of that of BT and adsorbent prepared without alternating dry-wet process, respectively. The introduction of –COOH groups during the preparation of DW-CB enhanced the electrostatic interaction between DW-CB and Cu 2+ , which was the main driving force for Cu 2+ removal. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model and Langmuir model better described the adsorption process and adsorption capacity of Cu 2+ on DW-CB. DW-CB still showed high removal of Cu 2+ (19.61 ± 0.99 mg/g) in the presence of multiple metal ions , while exhibiting the potential for removal of Zn 2+ , Mg 2+ and K + , especially Mg 2+ (22.69 ± 1.48 mg/g). However, the interactions of organics with Cu 2+ severely affected the removal of Cu 2+ by DW-CB (removal efficiency: 17.90 ± 4.17 % - 95.33 ± 0.27 %). In this study, an adsorbent with high targeted adsorption of Cu 2+ was prepared by utilizing wastepaper and BT, which broadened the way of wastepaper resource utilization and had good economic and social benefits .

The electrochemical nitric oxide reduction reaction (NORR) is a promising green process for nitric oxide (NO) removal and ammonia (NH 3 ) synthesis. Among existing catalysts, copper (Cu) exhibits relatively high activity but is less stable and does not provide enough *H to further increase the NH 3 yield. In this study, a Cu/Fe 3 O 4 electrocatalyst with synergistic catalysis was synthesized. Cu contributes to NO activation and sequential hydrogenation, while Fe 3 O 4 promotes the decomposition of H 2 O to provide more *H and jointly promote NH 3 synthesis. The Cu/Fe 3 O 4 shows a high NH 3 yield of 347.5 ± 5.9 μmol h −1 cm −2 at −0.5 V vs. RHE and high Faraday efficiency (FE) of 95.8 ± 0.4 %, superior to most reported non-precious metal catalysts. Moreover, the catalyst activity was not attenuate after the 100 h stability test. The aqueous Zn-NO battery system demonstrates concurrent energy generation and ammonia synthesis capabilities, delivering a peak power output of 9.53 mW cm −2 alongside efficient NH 3 production with a yield of 595.7 ± 5.1 μg h −1 cm −2 .

Cu particles are limited in their applications due to their susceptibility to oxidation. Here we report a cost-effective method for producing Cu particles with oxidation resistance. By heating the mixture of basic cupric carbonate and glucose powders, Cu particles coated with amorphous carbon were achieved. The amorphous carbon was then converted into graphene through flash joule heating (FJH). The conductivity of the final product was 47.1 S/cm after FJH, which remained as 42.3 S/cm even after in hot air for 30 min, i.e., 89.8% conductivity retention. The product was demonstrated for the application of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding with an average EMI shielding effectiveness of 12.3 dB and 11.7 dB before and after oxidizing treatment, respectively.

Powder preparation is the key step in producing laser cladding coatings with desired properties. In this paper, quaternary TiO 2 -B 4 C-C-Cu composite powder with high sphericity and good densification has been successfully prepared by a powder fabrication process combining spray granulation with densification sintering. The effects of slurry characteristics, spray granulation process parameters, and densification sintering temperature on particle morphology and performance were studied. The formation mechanism of quaternary spherical TiO 2 -B 4 C-C-Cu composite powder was revealed by analyzing the process of heat transfer and water transfer in the droplets, and the optimization direction of the powder preparation was indicated. The optimized process parameters for the quaternary spherical TiO 2 -B 4 C-C-Cu composite powder are: slurry solid content of 52 wt%, dispersant content of 1.25 wt%, binder content of 2 wt%, inlet temperature of 180 °C, the airflow rate of 310 L/h, slurry feed rate of 4.5 ml/min, and the two-stage temperatures of densification sintering are 500 ℃ and 900 ℃ for 1 h, in turn. Under the optimized process, the fluidity of the powder reaches 112 s/50 g, the apparent density reaches 1.2 g/ml, and more than 70% of the particles are between 15–53 µm. The powder has been verified by laser cladding to prepare in-situ synthesized TiB 2 -TiC-Cu composite coatings , which could have a better prospect for potential application.

Uncovering the excitation processes of photocatalysts and enhancing the dissociation of excitons into free photogenerated electrons and holes for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction is imperative yet quite challenging. Herein, an efficient strategy of reducing the binding energy of excitons to boost exciton dissociation is reported by anchoring the low valence single-atom Cu sites in In 2 S 3 nanosheets (Cu-In 2 S 3 ), which can enhance photocatalytic CO 2 reduction activity. The investigations of photo-irradiated Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM), in situ irradiates X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and temperature-dependent photoluminescence (TD-PL) indicate that the doping of low valence single-atom Cu can efficiently drive the charge transfer and separation. Moreover, the studies of the dynamic behaviors of charge carriers by femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopy (fs-TAS) reveal that the doping of low valence Cu single-atom sites allows the promotion of exciton dissociation by reducing the binding energy of the exciton, resulting in an enhanced photocatalytic CO 2 reduction of Cu-In 2 S 3 nanosheets. The aforementioned strategy for enhancing the dissociation efficiency of excitons in photocatalysts will offer a highly efficient and promising approach for the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction and other photocatalytic applications.

Cu-doped apatite Pb 10− x Cu x (PO 4 ) 6 O was synthesized. The crystal structure and composition were determined using X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Both the primary phase and impurities have been successfully identified. We performed temperature-dependent resistivity measurements on the synthesized Pb 10− x Cu x (PO 4 ) 6 O samples. Remarkably, four distinct types of resistivity behaviors were observed in one sample. Following a thorough compositional analysis, we proposed a current percolation model, based on the formation of a Cu/Pb current channel, to elucidate the observed special resistivity behaviors. It is important to note that the Meissner effect was not observed in our magnetization measurements. Consequently, we reached the conclusion that the presence of superconductivity in Cu-doped apatite has yet to be substantiated.

Hydrothermal and ultrasonic processes were used in this study to synthesize a single-atom Cu anchored on t-BaTiO3. The resulting material effectively employs vibration energy for the piezoelectric (PE) catalytic degradation of pollutants. The phase and microstructure of the sample were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and it was found that the sample had a tetragonal perovskite structure with uniform grain size. The nanomaterial achieved a considerable increase in tetracycline degradation rate (approximately 95 % within 7 h) when subjected to mechanical vibration. In contrast, pure BaTiO3 demonstrated a degradation rate of 56.7 %. A significant number of piezo-induced negative charge carriers, electrons, can leak out to the Cu-doped BaTiO3 interface due to Cu's exceptional conductivity. As a result, a single-atom Cu catalyst can facilitate the separation of these electrons, resulting in synergistic catalysis. By demonstrating a viable approach for improving ultrasonic and PE materials this research highlights the benefits of combining ultrasonic technology and the PE effect.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are currently highly promising rechargeable batteries offering affordable prices and high reliability. However, the uncontrolled expansion of zinc dendrites, hydrogen evolution reaction, and adverse reaction greatly affect their potential sustainable application. Herein, Cu–Sn nanoparticle alloy-modified carbon nanofibers (Cu/Sn–C) are constructed as a buffer interface region onto the zinc anode. The high density of zincophilic sites of the Cu/Sn–C contributes a homogeneous Zn deposition behavior, ameliorates potential separator penetration of zinc dendrites, and weakens corrosions and adverse reactions. As a result, Cu/Sn–C exhibits a low zinc nucleation overpotential of 33.2 mV and dendrite-free zinc deposition. Besides, a symmetric cell with Cu/Sn–C@Zn anode exhibits outstanding cycling lifespan with over 3500 h at 1 mA cm −2 for 1 mAh cm −2 . Furthermore, Cu/Sn–C@Zn//Mn x V 2 O 5 full battery also achieves stable cycling at 5 A g −1 . This work provides a significant avenue for enhancing the reliability of the Zn anode, thereby facilitating the advancement of widespread applications for the next-generation AZIBs. Graphical Cu–Sn nanoparticle alloy-modified carbon nanofibers (Cu/Sn–C) are constructed as a buffer interface region onto the Zn metal anode. The abundant zincophilic sites of the Cu/Sn–C contribute a homogeneous Zn deposition behavior and weaken side reactions. Therefore, Cu/Sn–C presents a superior rate capability and long-term cycling stability.

Paraffin wax (PW) is a typical organic phase change material (PCM) with superior thermal storage performance. However, its poor thermal conductivity, liquid leakage, and inadequate solar absorption have limited its commercial application in thermal management and solar energy utilization. To address these limitations, polydopamine (PDA) was first employed to modify diatomite (DT) to enable uniform deposition of metal Cu nanoparticles on its surface to construct as a DT/PDA/Cu supporting material. Then, the obtained supporting material was used to encapsulate PCM, and the prepared shape-stabilized PCM (SSPCM) with 50 wt.% PW exhibited no leakage, a prominent solar–thermal conversion ability, and a high thermal conductivity. The PW/DT/PDA/Cu SSPCM demonstrated a thermal conductivity of 1.115 W·m −1 ·K −1 , which was up to 3.83 times larger than that of pure PW, and a pronounced photothermal conversion efficiency of 88.27%. The substantial performance enhancement can be attributed to the PDA modification-driven strong in situ and uniform deposition of Cu nanoparticles on the surface of DT. Furthermore, the SSPCM was also capable of generating a steady current of 39.3 mA. The study results provide an efficient method for the multiple energy conversion application of SSPCMs.

Due to the low bonding strength between diamond and copper, the thermal conductivity and mechanical strength of diamond/copper composites are affected. In order to improve the interface bonding strength, this paper prepared diamond/Cu composites with titanium element in two forms: adding titanium to the copper matrix and using titanium coated diamond particles, respectively. The microstructure and composition analysis of the materials were carried out through SEM, EDS, AFM, etc. The bending strength and thermal conductivity of titanium coated diamond/copper composites reached 230 MPa and 480 W/(m·K), respectively, which were higher than the bending strength and thermal conductivity of diamond/Cu composites with added titanium in the matrix (208 MPa and 127 W/(m·K) and significantly higher than the corresponding properties of pure diamond/Cu composites (69 MPa and 108 W/(m·K)). Pre coating a layer of titanium carbide on the surface of diamond can serve as a connecting bridge, effectively reducing interfacial thermal resistance and improving mechanical properties, which is more effective than adding titanium powder to the matrix to improve the bending strength and thermal conductivity of diamond/Cu composites.

The misuse of antibiotics leads to the emergence of a variety of drug-resistant bacteria, which poses a serious threat to human life. Novel antimicrobial strategies are urgently needed. Herein, peroxidase-like enzyme material of Cu 2 O/NPC/Pal was prepared from Cu 2 O/nanoporous carbon (Cu 2 O/NPC) derived from Cu-MOF in the presence of palygorskite (Pal) by the pyrolysis-etching-pyrolysis strategy. Cu 2 O/NPC/Pal could catalyze the production of ·O 2 − from H 2 O 2 to cause the oxidative stress and cell membrane damage to bacteria. The antibacterial rates against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa reached 98.99 % and 92.70 %, respectively. In addition, Cu 2 O/NPC/Pal can promote the oxidation of glutathione and the consumption of intracellular effectively. Introduction of Pal into Cu 2 O/NPC significantly enhances the binding affinity and forms a highly concentrated substrate microenvironment. The study provided the pyrolysis strategy for the synthesis of carbon-based metal oxide nanomaterials in combination with mineral-based materials for the enhancement of peroxide-like activity in antimicrobial application.

In this study, straw biochar (TB) was prepared by pyrolysis at 500 °C, and biochar composite material (TBS) was prepared by a 1:4 mass ratio with sludge (TS). Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were utilized to characterize the material before and after adsorption. The results demonstrated that TBS possesses significant pore structure characteristics and abundant active functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, and carbonyl groups, providing a structural basis for its efficient adsorption of heavy metal ions in aqueous solutions. The adsorption performance of the remediation materials for Cu(II) and Pb(II) in aqueous solution was systematically investigated. Experimental data showed that TBS achieved maximum adsorption capacities of 60.86 and 46.98 mg/g for Cu(II) and Pb(II) at equilibrium, respectively, exhibiting superior adsorption efficiency. Through fitting analysis using adsorption kinetic models and isothermal adsorption models, it was found that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isothermal model could more accurately describe the adsorption process of the two heavy metal ions, indicating that chemical adsorption was the dominant mechanism and characterized by multilayer adsorption. Thermodynamic parameter calculations revealed negative ΔG values and positive ΔH and ΔS values, suggesting that the adsorption process was a spontaneous, entropy-increasing, and endothermic reaction. These research results fully validate the excellent removal capabilities of TBS for Cu(II) and Pb(II). This study has shown that TBS can be considered a promising and cost-effective adsorbent, demonstrating its potential to adsorb heavy metal ions in water.
