This study aimed to achieve toxicity control of sulfadiazine (SDZ) and pirimiphos-methyl (PMM) via the UV/H 2 O 2 process by optimizing the reaction parameters. The results show that both drugs had a good degradation effect under the following parameters: a H 2 O 2 molar ratio of 1:200, and neutral conditions. SDZ and PMM could be degraded by more than 99% within 3 min, respectively. In the Daphnia magna acute toxicity assay and Vibrio fischeri inhibition assay, both SDZ and PMM exhibited a phenomenon of increasing toxicity. Additionally, through the use of density functional theory (DFT) calculation and HPLC-QTOF-MS, 21 transformation products (TPs) were identified, and the principal degradation pathways were proposed. The toxicity of the TPs was determined by comparing the QSAR prediction results with toxicity test data. As a result, under the higher UV light intensity (2300 μW/cm 2 ) and neutral conditions, SDZ showed highest toxicity, whereas PMM showed lowest toxicity under the lowest UV light intensity (450 μW/cm 2 ) and neutral conditions. Four main toxic TPs were identified, and their yields could be reduced by adjusting the reaction parameters. Therefore, the selection of appropriate reaction parameters could reduce the production of toxic TPs and ensure the safety of water environment.

Nonstoichiometric Zn 1+m In₂S 4+m samples were synthesized by raising Zn and S precursor ratios, enhancing [001] asymmetry. • Enhanced asymmetry gives Zn 1+m In₂S 4+m a stronger intrinsic internal electric field (IEF), boosting charge separation. • Zn₂In₂S₅ shows a H₂O₂ production rate of 2452 μmol g⁻¹ h⁻¹ in air, 3.09 times that of ZnIn₂S₄. • This work demonstrates the feasibility of enhancing the internal electric field via compositional regulation. Two-dimensional ZnIn 2 S 4 is regarded as a promising candidate for photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production owing to its unique crystal structure. However, its practical photocatalytic efficiency remains limited by the severe recombination of photogenerated charge carriers and sluggish charge carrier migration. The intrinsic asymmetric crystal structure of ZnIn 2 S 4 generates an internal electric field (IEF), which effectively suppresses charge carrier recombination and promotes charge carrier separation and migration. In this work, the structural asymmetry of Zn 1+m In 2 S 4+m was systematically enhanced by simultaneously increasing the Zn and S source ratios in the precursors, thereby significantly strengthening the IEF. Benefiting from the enhanced IEF, the optimized Zn 2 In 2 S 5 sample exhibits an outstanding H 2 O 2 production rate of 2452 μmol g⁻¹ h⁻¹ , approximately 3.09 times that of ZnIn 2 S 4 . This work not only demonstrates the feasibility of strengthening the IEF through composition regulation to enhance photocatalytic performance, but also provides new insights into the design of highly efficient photocatalysts.

Na + intercalation and cyano-group modified carbon nitride (Na-MDCN) was synthesized. • Na-MDCN exhibits superior photocatalytic H 2 O 2 yield rate of 8.8 mmol g −1 h −1 . • In-situ DRIFTS shows a stepwise ·O 2 - pathway kinetically blocking H 2 O 2 decomposition. • The in-situ generated H 2 O 2 shows practical potential in rapid dye degradation. A key challenge in solar-driven hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production lies in the precise modulation of photocatalysts that enable efficient charge separation, selective two-electron oxygen reduction, and stable catalytic performance. To address this, we developed a novel carbon nitride photocatalyst through a synergistic strategy combining NaCl salt-template-assisted synthesis with precursor structure construction. Through the precursor engineering of melamine and dicyandiamide, sodium chloride serves a dual function as a pore-forming agent and a high-temperature template, promoting the formation of a highly crystalline, porous architecture with well-structured tri-s-triazine units with incorporated Na⁺ species. This approach enables the incorporation of Na⁺ ions and the integration of terminal cyano groups, which are likely to collectively promote charge transport and light absorption. As a result, the optimized catalyst displays a prominent H 2 O 2 production rate of 8.8 mmol g −1 h −1 , substantially outperforming single-precursor counterparts, alongside excellent long-term stability and good selectivity for two-electron oxygen reduction pathway. The synergy between salt-template-mediated structural evolution and precursor structure design represents a distinctive strategy that not only yields an efficient photocatalyst for H 2 O 2 production but also offers a broadly applicable pattern for the rational construction of advanced catalytic systems. Download: Download high-res image (356KB) Download: Download full-size image The introduction of NaCl salt-template and precursor engineering construction into C 3 N 4 (functionalized with cyano groups and Na + ) creates a synergistic effect that enhanced light harvesting ability, effective oxygen adsorption actives and boosted two electron selectivity, leading to superior photocatalytic H 2 O 2 evolution performance.

Oxygen vacancy is one intrinsic defect in metal oxide materials. Interestingly, we herein found that the surface oxygen vacancy can significantly enhance the catalytic activity of Co3O4 nanowires in the luminol–H2O2 chemiluminescence (CL) reaction. 0.1 ng/mL Co3O4 nanowires containing 51.3% surface oxygen vacancies possessed ca. 2.5-fold catalytic activity of free Co2+ (the best metal ionic catalyst for the luminol–H2O2 CL reaction). The superior catalytic efficiency is attributed to the enhanced adsorption of H2O2 by surface oxygen vacancies, which in turn accelerates the cleavage of O–O bonds and generates •OH radicals. More importantly, the surface oxygen vacancy-rich Co3O4 nanowires retained about 90% catalytic activity after modification with antibodies. The surface oxygen vacancy-rich Co3O4 nanowires were used to label the secondary antibody, and one sandwich-type CL immunoassay of carcinoembryonic antigen was established. The detection limit was 0.3 ng/mL with a linear range of 1–10 ng/mL. This proof-of-concept work proves that surface oxygen vacancy-rich Co3O4 nanowires are suitable for labeling biomolecules in CL bioanalysis and biosensing.

An ultrasensitive fluorescent biosensor is reported for glucose detection based on a Fenton-like reaction triggered chemical redox-cycling signal amplification strategy. In this amplified strategy, Cu2+ oxidizes chemically o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to generate photosensitive 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP) and Cu+/Cu0. On the one hand, the generated Cu0 catalyzes the oxidation of OPD. On the other hand, H2O2 reacts with Cu+ to produce hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) and Cu2+ through a Cu+-mediated Fenton-like reaction. The generated ˙OH and recycled Cu2+ ions take turns oxidizing OPD to produce more photoactive DAP, triggering a self-sustaining chemical redox-cycling reaction and a remarkable fluorescent enhancement. It is worth mentioning that the cascade reaction did not stop until OPD molecules were completely consumed. Benefiting from H2O2-triggered chemical redox-cycling signal amplification, the strategy was exploited for the development of an ultrasensitive fluorescent biosensor for glucose determination. Glucose content monitoring was realized with a linear range from 1 nM to 1 μM and a limit of detection of 0.3 nM. This study validates the practicability of the chemical redox-cycling signal amplification on the fluorescent bioanalysis of glucose in human serum samples. It is expected that the method offers new opportunities to develop ultrasensitive fluorescent analysis strategy.

Excessive amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) cause various biological damages and are involved in many diseases, such as cancer, inflammatory and thrombotic complications, and neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, ROS-responsive polymers with inherent ROS scavenging activity and biodegradability are extremely needed for the efficient treatment of ROS-related diseases. Here, this work fabricates the amphiphilic diblock copolymer PEG-b-PBC via ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of phenylboronic acid ester conjugated cyclic carbonate monomer. The copolymer easily forms micelles (BCM) and scavenges ROS rapidly. BCM not only releases the delivered drug but degrades to produce the small molecules p-hydroxybenzyl alcohol (HBA) with anti-inflammatory capability in the presence of H 2 O 2 . BCM can reduce the oxidative stress of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and the levels of inflammatory factors secreted by macrophages, showing antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activity. Finally, BCM exerts a significant capability to reduce the complications of inflammation and thrombosis in vivo. The biodegradable aliphatic poly(carbonate)s have the potential to be used for drug delivery systems (DDS) for diseases induced by reactive oxygen species.

Timely detection of hepatic oxidative stress is effective in preventing the onset and progression of liver disease. However, real-time and dynamic monitoring of oxidative stress in vivo remains challenging. Herein, we report a H 2 O 2 -responsive dual-peak ratiometric NIR-II fluorescent probe (Er@Ag 2 S:Pb), made by combining H 2 O 2 -responsive fluorescent Pb-doped Ag 2 S quantum dots (Ag 2 S:Pb QDs) with a fluorescence-stabilized reference substrate NaYF 4 :Yb/Er @NaYF 4 . By monitoring the change in emitted I 1550 /I 1220 intensities the probe can be used to sense and quantify H 2 O 2 concentrations ranging from 5 to 100 μM with excellent specificity. Experimental studies using mice models have shown that this probe can be used to monitor of hepatic H 2 O 2 -related oxidative stress in real time and non-invasively. Thus, the developed probe provides a powerful ratiometric NIR-II fluorescence imaging tool for timely monitoring of oxidative stress in vivo .

Although the fact that H 2 O 2 is employed in the medical, food, and chemical industries, trace detection of H 2 O 2 remains a difficult and significant problem. For the detection of H 2 O 2 residues, SERS assays based on enzyme inhibition techniques show promise. As a result, we csynthesized CeO 2 @nanogel/Au nanoparticles with dual enzyme-like capabilities to detect hydrogen peroxide in this study. CeO 2 nanozymes possess both peroxidase-like and oxidase-like activities which could oxidize colorless 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine to blue TMB oxide. Surprisingly, after the addition of nanogel, CeO 2 @nanogel were prepared and both of its dual enzymatic activities decreased, especially the oxidase-like enzymes almost disappeared. To better investigate the enzyme catalytic activity, Au NPs were introduced and CeO 2 @nanogel/Au nanozymes were self-assembly prepared. Based on the significantly enhancement of CeO 2 @nanogel/Au nanozymes peroxidase activity, we developed a Raman detection method for H 2 O 2 with TMB ox as the probe molecule. The Raman intensity showed good linearity for the concentration of H 2 O 2 in the range of 10 -9 M−10 −1 M with a correlation coefficient of R 2 = 0.9922 and a detection limit of 2.68 × 10 -12 M. Thus, the proposed SERS mode sensor exhibited good selectivity and interference resistance, providing a new avenue for environmental monitoring.

The conventional Fe(III)/H 2 O 2 system is of low efficiency on the removal of most organic pollutants. However, we discovered that the Fe(III)/H 2 O 2 system was robust on remediating tetracycline (TC) in water (0.109 min −1 for the pseudo-first kinetic constant), and the reaction was even slightly faster than that in the conventional Fe(II)/H 2 O 2 system (0.105 min −1 ). The addition of TC could also initiate the degradation of other refractory pollutants in the Fe(III)/H 2 O 2 system. Complexation between Fe(III) and TC with the stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 was observed. Electron transfer from TC to Fe(III) gave rise to the slight production of Fe(II), which served as the initiator of the following Fenton reaction. •OH was ascertained as the main reactive species through quenching experiments, EPR tests and the probe method, while O 2 • − /HO 2 • was also a subsidiary contributor. Hydroquinone intermediates were proved to be generated through the hydroxylation of the benzene ring of the TC molecule by •OH and thus facilitate the reductive transformation of Fe(III) to Fe(II). This study analyzes the relationship between molecular structural features of TC and the catalytic efficiency of ferric Fenton-like reactions. We expect to shed light on new mechanistic insights on autocatalysis in the Fenton-like catalytic processes.

Dandelion has received wide attention in food and medicine fields due to its excellent antioxidant properties. Nonetheless, the underlying mechanism of this action has not yet been fully clarified, particularly at the metabolic level. Herein, the effects of dandelion extract (DE) on H2O2-induced oxidative damage was investigated. The results indicate that the DE alleviated H2O2-induced cell damage (increased by 14.5% compared to H2O2group), reduced the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level (decreased by 80.1% compared to H2O2group), maintained the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) level, and increased antioxidant-related enzyme activities. Importantly, the metabolic response of PC12 cells indicates that H2O2disturbed phospholipid metabolism and damaged cell membrane integrity. In addition, energy metabolism, the central nervous system, and the antioxidant-related metabolism pathway were perturbed. In contrast, DE rescued the H2O2-induced metabolic disorder and further alleviated oxidative damage. Collectively, these findings provide valuable stepping stones for a discussion of the mechanism and show the promise of DE as a suitable additive for functional food products. Keywords:dandelion;antioxidant;oxidative damage;metabolomics;lipidomics

In this study, a facile and cost-effective hydrothermal synthesis method was used to synthesize zinc oxide nanoflowers modified by reduced graphene oxide, and subsequently, trimetallic AuPtRu nanoparticles(AuPtRuNPs) were supported via the reduction method for high-sensitivity colorimetric detection of H2O2 in weakly acidic solutions. Compared to monometallic and bimetallic nanoparticles, trimetallic nanoparticles exhibit significant synergistic effects and enhanced catalytic activity. After providing a three-dimensional structure with multiple pores by zinc oxide and enhancing electron transfer ability by reduced graphene, the trimetallic nanocomposites (AuPtRu/ZnO-rGO) exhibited excellent peroxidase-mimicking activity, which can effectively catalyze 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce a blue oxidation product (oxTMB) in the presence of H2O2. Compared to horseradish peroxidase (HRP), AuPtRu/ZnO-rGO demonstrated significantly enhanced catalytic velocity (Vmax = 6.16 × 10–8 M/s) and affinity (Km = 0.02) for H2O2. The study of the catalytic mechanism showed that trimetallic Au, Pt, and Ru could effectively catalyze H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals (•OH) to accelerate the oxidation of TMB and enhance the peroxidase-mimicking activity of the AuPtRu/ZnO-rGO nanocomposites. The results showed that the as-synthesized hydrangea-like AuPtRu/ZnO-rGO nanocomposites showed enhanced peroxidase-mimicking activity. It could be used for the colorimetric detection of H2O2 in the range 5–1000 μM with a LOD of 3.0 μM (S/N = 3), and the recoveries are 93.0–101.7%. In addition, the AuPtRu/ZnO-rGO nanocomposites have good applicability for sensitive colorimetric determination of H2O2 in milk, and it has broad application prospects as a multifunctional sensing platform in the food processing industry.

In this paper, a new Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs)/graphene nanocomposites with polydopamine (PDA) as coupling agent was electrochemically synthesized and has been used as electrode modifications for the electrochemical detection of H 2 O 2 . The structural characterizations clearly showed that small sized and highly dispersed AgNPs were electrodeposited on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) with the help of PDA agent. The obtained AgNPs/PDA/RGO nanocomposites exhibited higher electrocatalytic activities toward reduction of H 2 O 2 compared with the AgNPs/RGO composites without involvement of PDA. The AgNPs/PDA/RGO nanocomposites presented excellent electrochemical sensing performance for detection of H 2 O 2 with wide linear concentration range, high detection sensitivity, good selectivity and excellent reprodutibility and stability. The successful application of AgNPs/PDA/RGO nanocomposites in human serum samples for the detection of H 2 O 2 was also demonstrated.
