Well-dispersed Ag nanowires and PVP-modified BaGdF 5 : Yb 3+ , Er 3+ spherical nanoparticles were prepared by simple solvothermal and hydrothermal method, and they were further combined to obtain photo-thermal-magnetic multifunctional Ag/BaGdF 5 : Yb 3+ , Er 3+ nanocomposites. Under NIR laser irradiation, monodispersed rare-earth fluoride BaGdF 5 : Yb 3+ , Er 3+ in nanocomposite exhibit good upconversion fluorescent. Meanwhile, under the action of an external magnetic field, the nanocomposite also exhibits good magnetic properties and excellent contrast efficiency by CT/MR imaging. The NCs possess good structure and photothermal stability at multiple cycles due to that Ag nanowires are modified by polyvinyl pyrrolidone and sodium citrate. The biocompatibility and low toxicity of NCs are also remarkable. Importantly, the unique linear morphology of Ag particles can achieve high efficiency conversion between light and heat. Furthermore, in vitro tests also confirm the high efficiency of photothermal therapy for cancer cells.

Electromagnetic (EM) interference and radiation affecting human health and the operation of precision electronic devices have drawn considerable attention in recent years. Herein, a promising microwave-absorbing material, Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs)-decorated Fe/Fe3O4@N-doped carbon (NC) composite, was designed and fabricated with the Fe2O3@polydopamine@Ag hexagonal plates as the precursor. Crystalline structure, phase conversion, micromorphology, static magnetic properties, and EM characteristics of the samples were studied by various analytical techniques. The EM parameters of the obtained samples could be manipulated by increasing the pyrolysis temperature, exhibiting gradually enhanced dielectric and magnetic loss. Optimizing the coating thickness turns out to be a critical factor for regulating microwave absorption. The product obtained at 600 °C performs a maximum reflection loss (RL) value of −37.5 dB (10.64 GHz, 1.6 mm) and an effective absorption bandwidth (RL < −10 dB) up to 7.36 GHz (10.64–18 GHz) with a thickness of only 1.4 mm. In addition, the possible EM wave absorption mechanisms were further investigated in detail. In sum, it has been confirmed that the as-obtained AgNPs-decorated Fe/Fe3O4@NC composite with ultrabroad absorption bandwidths and strong absorption capacity would be an attractive candidate material for effective EM absorption materials in the future.

Herein, a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) strategy based on semiconducting substrate was exploited for detection of several antibiotic residues both in ultrapure water system and in actual water system. The as-prepared Ag-TiO 2 (Ag synchronously deposited and doped TiO 2 ) nanoparticle SERS-active substrate can achieve high sensitive SERS detection for difloxacin hydrochloride, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, danofloxacin and enoxacin (five widely used quinolone antibiotics) in actual water samples, and the detection limits are as low as 4.36 × 10 −12 , 7.08 × 10 −11 , 3.94 × 10 −11 , 3.16 × 10 −11 and 3.15 × 10 −10 mol/L, respectively. These detection limits are far below the maximum of residue limit (3.01 × 10 −7 mol/L) stipulated by the European Union. And, the desirable quantitative relationships can be obtained in a wide concentration range. The recoveries of five antibiotic residues from spiked actual water samples are found to be more than 80.8% with the relative standard deviations between 2.1% and 4.7%. Even, the proposed SERS method can accurately distinguish every antibiotic species from a mixed antibiotic residue sample with multiple antibiotics. And, Ag-TiO 2 nanoparticles can also serve as an efficient photocatalyst for photocatalytic degradation of these antibiotic residues, which provides a multi-functional platform for synchronous determination and degradation of antibiotic residues in real environment.

Transition metal ions doping has been an effective method to optimize the optical properties of quantum dots (QDs) and attracted much interest in recent years. In this work, Cu doped InP/ZnS (Cu:InP/ZnS) QDs have been synthesized via a nucleation-doping method and exhibit dual emission which consists of the intrinsic emission and the dopant emission. With the incremental Cu concentration from 0% to 10%, the dopant emission could be largely tuned from 598 to 707 nm. After introducing Ag ions into Cu:InP/ZnS QDs, the photoluminance (PL) intensity of dual emission gets remarkably enhanced with a PL quantum yield (QY) of 79%, while the emission peak positions change marginally. Through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, steady-state and time-resolved PL spectroscopy measurement, it can be concluded that the dopant emission color is mainly dominated by Cu while Ag is conducive to improve the dual emission of Cu and Ag co-doped InP/ZnS QDs. These results would contribute to further understanding dopant-dependent interaction and render this new class of single-phased and dual-emissive QDs a promising future to be applied in white LED.

The reliable and ultrasensitive detection of antibiotic drug residue is of great interest for environmental protection and human health. Herein, we propose a simple SERS strategy based on Ag nanoparticles (NPs) as substrate with the assistance of aggregation agent (MgSO 4 ) for the SERS investigation and the high sensitive detection of antibiotic drug carbenicillin disodium (CBDM). The density functional theory calculation was performed for the assignment and identification of Raman bands of the CBDM molecule. The results indicate that the CBDM molecule is close to the Ag NP substrate surface through the carboxyl group. The CBDM molecules on Ag NP substrate exhibit the largest SERS enhancement, when the concentration of MgSO 4 is 1 × 10 −2 mol/L and the pH value of CBDM solution is 6. By this SERS method, the limit of detection of CBDM is 0.63 × 10 −8 mol/L, which is lower than the standard of European Union for the maximum residue limit of antibiotic drug (1.2 × 10 −8 mol/L). And, a quantitative detection method of CBDM can be established. There is a good linear relationship (R 2 = 0.9908) in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10 −8 –1.0 × 10 −3 mol/L. It proves that the proposed SERS method is a simple, rapid (within 6 min), reliable and highly sensitive scheme with a good reproducibility for the detection of CBDM. And, the proposed SERS strategy can also be applied for the high sensitive detection and identification of other antibiotic drug (penicillin).

In this work, we proposed a new and facile strategy for the high-performance colorimetric detection of Ag + based on the tunable peroxidase-like activity of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) mediated by histidine (His). Bare Pd NPs possess intrinsic catalytic ability to trigger the oxidation of colorless 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue TMBox in the presence of H 2 O 2 . After being decorated by His, the formed His-Pd nanozyme exhibits significantly improved mimetic activity due to its favorable physicochemical characteristics including smaller size, interactions between Pd and His, and better hydrophilicity, and such that an enhanced TMB color reaction is observed. When Ag + exists, it is able to despoil the His modifier from the His-Pd surface via the specific interaction between Ag + and His, resulting in the bald Pd again with weak activity. With this principle, highly sensitive determination of Ag + in a linear scope of 30–300 nM was achieved with a limit of detection down to 4.7 nM. In addition, the colorimetric sensor based on the tunable enzymatic activity of nanosized Pd adjusted by His could provide excellent selectivity for Ag + sensing against common interferents. Reliability of the strategy for practical detection of Ag + was also demonstrated.

With the rapid depletion of fossil fuels and the associated environmental issues, solar energy is identified as one of the most promising pollution-free and renewable resource. Herein, we prepared a novel Ag-Paraffin@Halloysite microsphere with the integrated abilities of storing solar energy and catalytic function by self-assembly method. The results show that Ag-Paraffin@Halloysite microsphere has a core-shell structure with paraffin as core and halloysite as shell, and Ag nanoparticles are dispersed uniformly on the surface of the microspheres. The high thermal storage capability, encapsulation ratio and encapsulation efficiency of Ag-Paraffin@Halloysite indicate that it can be used as an ideal heat storage material. Compared with pure paraffin, Ag-Paraffin@Halloysite has higher thermal conductivity, excellent thermal storage capacity, and faster transient thermal response. After heat storage, Ag-Paraffin@Halloysite shows much better catalytic activity (95.3% of conversion in 6 min) compared with the one without heat storage (71.1% of conversion in 6 min) for catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol. This result suggests its potential to be used as a self-heating catalyst for storing/releasing thermal energy during catalytic reactions. This work may offer a general and innovative approach to couple phase change materials with catalyst and open up a new avenue for utilization of solar energy in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering.

In this paper, nanocomposites that contain core-shell Ag/TiO2particles as the filler and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as the matrix were investigated. Two surfactants, namely octyl phosphonic acid (OPA) and pentafluorobenzyl phosphonic acid (PFBPA), were applied to modify Ag/TiO2fillers for uniform dispersion in the matrix. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis of bonds between the TiO2shells and the phosphonic modifiers shows Ti–O–P chemical bonding between the Ag/TiO2fillers and the modifiers. Thermogravimetric analysis results show a superior adsorption effect of PFBPA over OPA on the Ag/TiO2filler surface at the same weight percentage. For nanocomposites that contain modified Ag/TiO2nanoparticles, the loss was reduced despite the high permittivity at the same loading. The permittivity of the nanocomposites by PFBPA is larger than that of OPA, because the more uniform dispersion of inorganic particles in the PTFE matrix enhances the interfacial polarization effect. The mechanism of enhanced dielectric performance was studied and discussed. Keywords:core–shell structure;interfacial modification;dielectric properties;nanocomposites

In this article, we report an ultra-thin shell of MoS 2 (3–7 nm) deposited on Ag nanowires (AgNWs) to form a core-shell hybrid system by the sol-gol method. Since AgNWs is easy to be oxidized, a protection shell is necessary. Compared with commonly used hydrothermal method for MoS 2 , it could produce a more thinner and homogeneous shell with the least 3 nm thickness of MoS 2 shell, which is a breaking-through of making MoS 2 shell based on noble nanoparticles . Results show that the obtained hybrid system has great value on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) due to surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanowires. Ultra-thin MoS 2 shell was suitable for protecting AgNWs and simultaneously had excellent SERS signature, and this effect was rare for MoS 2 shells. By decreasing the thickness of MoS 2 film from 7 to 3 nm, the intensity of SERS signal could be enhanced. It was observed that the microstructure of this AgNWs@MoS 2 system consist of crystal AgNWs surrounded by crystal MoS 2 . AgNWs@MoS 2 showed excellent SERS effect with Rhodamine 6G (R6G) and N719 dyes, the detection limit could reach to 10 −5 M. Finally for comparison, local electromagnetic field enhancement of AgNWs@SiO 2 was also simulated to indicate AgNWs@MoS 2 better.

The plasmonic photocatalyst Ag@AgCl was successfully prepared through a facile solvothermal method via a deep eutectic solvent (DES), which is composed of choline chloride and urea. X-Ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, element-mapping, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, N2 absorption–desorption, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance techniques were adopted to analyse the performance of the plasmonic photocatalyst. Characterisation results indicated that the DES not only served as a solvent and Cl source, but also as a reductant. Meanwhile, the probable mechanism for the formation of Ag@AgCl is discussed, which revealed a visible light enhanced photocatalytic property for the degradation of benzidine. Furthermore, the photocatalyst showed no decrease in its catalytic activity even after five cycles of operation. Finally, a possible photocatalytic oxidation mechanism of Ag@AgCl is proposed.

In this paper, highly ordered titanium dioxide nanorod (TNR) arrays decorated with Ag-Ag 2 S quantum-dots (QDs) were synthesized on FTO substrate through hydrothermal treatment and in-situ vulcanization . The content of Ag 2 S QDs on Ag/TNR was controlled by changing the immersion time of Ag/TNR in the N-N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) solution containing dissolved sulfur element. The morphology, structure, composition and optical, photoelectric and photocatalytic properties of QDs/TNR arrays were studied in detail. In the visible range, the QDs/TNR array with a soaking time of 12 h exhibits the maximal photocurrent density (0.082 mA/cm 2 ) and photodegradation rate (62.2%), which is 5.5 and 1.85 times higher than that of pure TNR. The improvement of these properties could be attributed to synergy effect between Ag and Ag 2 S materials. That is, Ag QDs can stably capture and transmit photo-generated electrons from the TNR surface, whereas the Ag 2 S promoter is regarded as the interface active sites to enhance photocatalytic reactions. Therefore, the synergistic effect of Ag-Ag 2 S can significantly enhance the photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic properties of the TNR arrays.

This work describes the fabrication and characterization of antibacterial poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) hollow fibre membranes via phase inversion using dry-jet wet-spinning technique. Ag-loaded NaY zeolites were particularly synthesized and then doped with PVDF spinning solution to produce a novel antibacterial hollow fibre with enhanced antibacterial efficiency. The morphologies, crystal structures, and Ag + loading of synthesized Ag-loaded NaY zeolites were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), respectively. The antibacterial efficiencies of the prepared hollow fibre membranes against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) were evaluated by halo zone test, E. coli suspension filtration test and adhesion test. The surface morphologies , pure water flux, hydrophilicity, tensile strength , through-pore size, resistance to BSA of antibacterial PVDF hollow fibre membrane were also investigated. All results demonstrated that PVDF hollow fibre fabricated by doping Ag-loaded zeolites showed excellent antibacterial property, high permeability and mechanical strength , indicating the promising application as the antibacterial ultra-filtration membranes.
