Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammation are the key problems that impede diabetic wound healing. In particular, dressings with ROS scavenging capacity play a crucial role in the process of chronic wound healing. Herein, Zr-based large-pore mesoporous metal–organic frameworks (mesoMOFs) were successfully developed for the construction of spatially organized cascade bioreactors. Natural superoxide dismutase (SOD) and an artificial enzyme were spatially organized in these hierarchical mesoMOFs, forming a cascade antioxidant defense system, and presenting efficient intracellular and extracellular ROS scavenging performance. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the SOD@HMUiO-MnTCPP nanoparticles (S@M@H NPs) significantly accelerated diabetic wound healing. Transcriptomic and western blot results further indicated that the nanocomposite could inhibit fibroblast senescence and ferroptosis as well as the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway activation in macrophages mediated by mitochondrial oxidative stress through ROS elimination. Thus, the biomimetic multi-enzyme cascade catalytic system with spatial ordering demonstrated a high potential for diabetic wound healing, where senescence, ferroptosis, and STING signaling pathways may be potential targets. The design and preparation of low-cost and high-stability proton exchange membranes (PEMs) play an indispensable role in sustainable development and application expansion. In this study, sulfonic acid-amino difunctionalized hydrophilic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) (named as TA-SNU6) were designed and synthesized as proton transport carriers to be incorporated into sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone sulfone) (SPAEKS) to obtain high proton conductivity and single-cell performance. The experimental results show that abundant hydroxyl and acid–base groups significantly increase the proton transport efficiency in PEMs and improve the hydrophilicity and electrochemical performance of PEMs. The single-cell performance of the STSN-1% membrane was about 1.8 W cm–2. The proton conductivity was up to 190 mS cm–1, the mechanical properties were significantly improved, and the tensile strength reached 48 MPa. SPAEKS polymer with a specified degree of sulfonation was prepared by a stepwise polycondensation reaction, which showed excellent comprehensive properties after adding TA-SNU6 fillers. The STSN-1% composite membrane performs better than Nafion 211 and Nafion 117 in fuel cells. Therefore, it can be seen that this work has achieved certain results, which makes PEMs have excellent electrochemical performance, and provides a reference for the development of high-performance PEMs.

Water remediation from arsenite [As(III)] is critical to environmental sustainability and human health. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) hold great promise for this purpose, while their efficient application requires addressing loading and activation issues. Herein, a new bionanocomposite bead UiO-66/CB was fabricated through simple gelation followed by the freeze-casting method for remediation of As(III)-contaminated water. Highly accessible UiO-66 nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed within the networking pores of the macroporous chitosan bead with high activity retention. Moreover, the fabrication strategy effectively activated the embedded UiO-66 nanoparticles, leading to improving the utilization efficiency of the active sites. The millimeter-sized UiO-66/CB-2.0 performed much more efficiently than the freely dispersed UiO-66 nanoparticles in removing As(III) and even exhibited comparable adsorption to the activated UiO-66 nanoparticles. The maximal sorption capacity of As(III) onto UiO-66/CB-2.0 was larger than 47.9 mg/g (88.6 mg As/g UiO-66) at pH 7. 1 g/L UiO-66/CB-2.0 can reduce As(III) levels (200 μg/L) in groundwater to below 10 μg/L. It could be readily regenerated and reused. Fixed-bed column adsorption by using UiO-66/CB-2.0 could treat ∼1600 bed volumes of As(III)-spiked groundwater to below 10 μg/L. This research provides a versatile route to fabricate high-performance and convenient MOFs biocomposite adsorbents for As(III) remediation.

Different amounts of Co-substituted Ni-MOF-74 have been prepared via a post-synthetic metal exchange. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption/desorption, and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analyses indicated the successful metathesis between Co and Ni in Ni-MOF-74 to form the solid-solution-like mixed-metal Co/Ni-MOF-74. It was found that introduction of active Co into the Ni-MOF-74 framework enabled the inert Ni-MOF-74 to show activity for cyclohexene oxidation. Since Co was favorably substituted at positions more accessible to the substrate, the mixed-metal Co/Ni-MOF-74 showed superior catalytic performance, compared with pure Co-MOF-74 containing a similar amount of Co. This study provides a facile method to develop solid-solution-like MOFs for heterogeneous catalysis and highlights the great potential of this mixed-metal strategy in the development of MOFs with specific endowed functionalities.

Pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) are ubiquitously detected in water matrices, arousing growing concern. Effective abatement of these toxic environmental contaminants is challenging but of great importance. Ce-based MOFs have been considered novel metal–organic framework (MOFs)-based photocatalysts in water treatment. However, limited light absorption ability, fast recombination of photogenerated carriers, and water stability limited the further application. Here, the UiO-66 (Ce) was successfully constructed onto the surface of a series of graphene oxide (GO) (1 mg ∼ 7.5 mg) in situ. GO with oxygen-containing functional groups (OCFGs) increased the adsorption (∼45 %) of the trace amount of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) (200 μg/L) over the interfaces and enhanced the degradation efficiency of SMX. The composite with the optimal ratio (GO@ UiO-66 (Ce)-5) significantly increased the charge separation ability and produced a large number of reactive oxygen species (ROS). •O 2 – was proved to be the major driving reactive substance for SMX degradation with the calculated steady-state concentration of 2.5 × 10 -9 M (∼1.37 times higher with bubbled oxygen), which is much higher than that of detected •OH (1.62 × 10 -14 ). Major operational parameters including dissolved oxygen, initial solution pH, and catalyst dosages were investigated systematically. Several intermediates were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). By choosing the strategy, MOFs were closely bonded to the surface of the GO matrix, making the leakage of Ce ions inhibited obviously (∼3 times) in the water treatment process. This study offers useful guidance for improving the performance of existing photocatalytic materials for PhACs removal.

Various metal organic frameworks (MOFs) including ZIF-8, Uio-66 and Cu-BTC are prepared and adopted with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) to co-modify TiO 2 . The resulting composite photocatalysts display high photocatalytic performances under both UV- and visible-light irradiation, and the corresponding photocatalytic mechanisms are revealed by considering the electronic structures and morphologies of these ingredients, which are proven by IR curves, STM patterns, lifetime of photoinduced electrons. The influences of BET areas and pore diameters of the adopted MOFs on the resulting photocatalytic properties are studied, and the specific influence of interaction between TiO 2 and RGO on the observed photocatalytic activities are also discussed. The large BET areas of the MOFs endow high adsorption capacities to the resulting photocatalysts, while the closely chemical contact between TiO 2 and RGO achieves the visible-light activity. After optimization, the degradation rate constants of rhodamine-B reach 1.65 × 10 -1 min -1 and 1.12 × 10 -1 min -1 under UV- and visible-light irradiation, respectively.

In this work, four metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) including DUT-4, DUT-8, IRMOF-8, and MIL-140B were synthesized using 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid as organic ligand and Al 3+ , Co 2+ , Zn 2+ , and Zr 4+ as metal centers, then coated on stainless steel wires as solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coatings. Five aldehyde biomarkers (hexanal, heptanal, octanal, decanal, and nonanal) in exhaled breath of lung cancer patients were used as the target analytes, and extracted using four MOFs fiber coatings, followed by thermal desorption and quantitative analysis using GC–MS. The DUT-4 was found to be the most appropriate sorbent. The developed SPME-GC–MS method has large enrichment factors (877–1711), wide linear ranges (0.5–1000 μg L −1 ), and low detection limits (0.056–0.138 μg L −1 ). The relative standard deviation for six replicate cycles using one DUT-4 coated fiber were 2.0–7.7 % (intra-day) and 2.2–4.6 % (inter-day), respectively. The fiber-to-fiber reproducibility for three parallel prepared fibers was in the range of 3.7–13.7 % (RSD). The fabricated DUT-4 coated fiber can withstand at least 100 cycles of extraction/desorption/conditioning without significant loss of extraction efficiency and precision. The high enrichment factors of the DUT-4 coatings are attributed to the high specific surface area, unique porous structure, and abundant aluminum coordinated unsaturated metal sites of the DUT-4 material. Moreover, the 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid has two benzene rings with a 180° orientation, which not only increases the hydrophobicity of the MOFs material to avoid water molecules occupying adsorption sites and helps to form a rigid skeleton structure with a large number of functional adsorption sites on the surface, thereby improving the enrichment factor of target analytes. Ultimately, the developed DUT-4 coated SPME fibers was sucessfully used for the analysis of exhaled breath samples, and the recoveries for the spiked analytes were in the range of 89–105 %.

Tartrazine (TAR), widely used as a synthetic food dye, and U(VI), primarily originating from nuclear industry effluents, pose serious environmental and health risks due to their toxicity and persistence. However, many existing adsorbents suffer from low capacity, poor stability, and limited reusability. Herein, A bio-based aerogel adsorbent (NDC) with a stable three-dimensional porous network structure was prepared through a Schiff base reaction between dialdehyde-functionalized nanocellulose fibrils (DNCFs), chitosan (CS), and aminated metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). The synergistic effect of MOFs , DNCFs, and CS resulted in high adsorption capacities of 689.66 mg/g for TAR and 285.72 mg/g for U(VI) at a temperature of 303 K, respectively. Additionally, the Schiff base chemical bonds firmly anchored the MOFs in the NDC aerogel, providing a compressive strength of 547.4 kPa at 70 % strain. Furthermore, due to the antibacterial properties of the amino groups on CS and MOFs, the NDC aerogel demonstrated excellent anti-biofouling performance. The results suggest that bio-based NDC aerogel is an efficient and prospective for the removal of TAR and U(VI) from wastewater as an adsorbent.

A bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst was designed and synthesized, denoted DMEDA/IL–NH 2 -MIL-101. The structure and physical-chemical characterization of DMEDA/IL–NH 2 -MIL-101 and its precursors were characterized by SEM, N 2 adsorption-desorption, XPS, FT-IR, PXRD, elemental analysis, and TGA techniques. The date showed that the two catalytic components of N, N-dimethylethylenediamine (DMEDA) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (BmimBr) were chemically immobilized in NH 2 -MIL-101 nanocages. The amine of DMEDA was grafted onto carrier NH 2 -MIL-101 by N–Cr coordinate covalent bonds and the ionic liquid of BmimBr (IL (Br − )) was anchored in the NH 2 -MIL-101 nanocages by ‘ship-in-a-bottle’ method, in which the amidogen of NH 2 -MIL-101 condensed with N, N-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) firstly, and then alkylated with 1-bromo butane. This novel heterogeneous catalyst with two different active sites can efficiently catalyze the synthesis of N-aryl oxazolidin-2-ones from carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), epoxides, and anilines in one-pot under mild solvent-free conditions. It not only showed good stability and recoverability after five cycles but also exhibited shape selectivity for the substrate due to the synergic catalysis of amine, ionic liquid, and NH 2 -MIL-101. This novel bifunctional material is a promising solid catalyst for the green synthesis of N-aryl oxazolidin-2-ones.

Lithium-ion batteries have been regarded as the most potential energy storage system due to their high energy density and theoretical capacity. However, conventional separators suffer from low electrolyte absorption, poor thermal and cycling stability, short circuits caused by dendrite growth. Herein, an effective approach was proposed to explore MOFs-based 3D-channeled separator via in-situ growth of ZIF-8 coating, which could significantly improve cycle stability and inhibit dendrite growth. Specifically, PLA membrane with 3D-channels was prepared by directional electrospinning and dopamine-induced assembling of MOFs in-situ growth onto the specified surface. By manipulating solvents, the desirable robustness of MOFs coatings could be accomplished through morphological assembly. Based on MOFs-architectured coating and microporosity , the excellent thermal stability (no change in size at 120 °C) and superior electrolyte uptake ability (290%) were finally obtained for the biobased separator. The assembled Li-ion battery exhibited ultrahigh cycle stability (capacity retention rate, 98.78% after 200 cycles at 1C rate) and preferable resistance to dendritic penetration, higher than those of the publicly reported. The excellent performance was attributed to the multiple 3D-channeled pathways for Li + provided by MOFs and coating morphology. This study shows the potential for the development of next generation energy storage devices with excellent cycle stability.

Colla Corii Asini ( CCA ), a traditional food-medicine product, is vulnerable to food safety and market integrity due to frequent adulteration. This study developed a lateral flow assay based on polyethylenimine-functionalized europium metal-organic frameworks (PEI-Eu-MOFs-LFA) for quantitatively detecting donkey DNA to assess the authenticity of CCA , without the need for knowing the types of adulterants. The protonated amino groups on the PEI‑Eu-MOFs surface formed stable complexes with negatively charged single‑stranded DNA (ssDNA) probes. Electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding facilitated conjugate formation, leading to fluorescence quenching of the PEI-Eu-MOFs via the inner-filter effect (IFE). This method enables direct analysis after DNA extraction, eliminating the need for additional nucleic acid amplification steps, and completes the entire process in just 60 min. Furthermore, a calibration curve was established between the T/C ratio and the logarithmic value of donkey hide content (2% to 100%). The PEI-Eu-MOFs-LFA exhibited excellent sensitivity and accuracy, with a detection limit of 1.86%, recoveries ranging from 85.70% to 114.63%, and relative standard deviations from 2.48% to 12.59%. Consequently, PEI-Eu-MOFs-LFA demonstrates high sensitivity and accuracy, significantly improving detection efficiency and providing an innovative approach for quality control and market regulation of CCA .

Defect-induced hierarchical HP-Fe-MOF enables efficient dual-enzyme immobilization. • The interaction of substrates with Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF was studied by microcalorimetry. • Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF exhibits high catalytic activity and enhanced substrate affinity. • Efficient degradation of butyl xanthate was achieved using Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as highly promising platforms for enzyme immobilization owing to their tunable porosity, large specific surface area, and outstanding stability. However, enzyme leakage and increased substrate mass transfer resistance have seriously hindered their practical applications. Herein, based on defect-induced pore engineering, we developed a facile and universal approach for dual-enzyme co-immobilization (glucose oxidase, GOx, and horseradish peroxidase, HRP) using hierarchical porous iron-based MOFs (denoted as HP-Fe-MOF). Precise modulation of crystal defects endows HP-Fe-MOF with hierarchical structure, which effectively addresses the issues of high mass transfer resistance and enzyme leaching, and further enhances catalytic efficiency. The intrinsic hierarchical porous features of HP-Fe-MOF facilitate strong enzyme-carrier interactions, achieving a maximum enzyme loading capacity of 169.6 mg/g and high substrate conversion efficiency (∼95%). The biocomposite, Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF, integrated the structural merits of HP-Fe-MOF and the catalytic properties of dual-enzymes, thereby exhibiting superior catalytic activity, exceptional stability, as well as enhanced binding affinity for substrates. This affinity enhancement stems from optimized enzyme-substrate interactions, which was elucidated via enzyme kinetic and thermodynamic analyses to clarify the structure-function relationship underlying its enhanced catalytic efficiency. Notably, the biocomposite maintained more than 12 times higher relative activity than the free enzyme after incubation at 70 °C for 1 h, and above 70% enzyme activity after 15 cycles. Based on these advantages, Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF was successfully applied to the efficient degradation of butyl xanthate, underscoring the great potential of MOF-immobilized dual-enzyme composites as advanced biological macromolecular materials for environmental remediation.
