Two-dimensional MXene and its composites are among the most attractive electromagnetic wave absorption (EMA) materials due to their unique structure. While previous studies have investigated 2D/2D MoS 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x heterojunctions for EMA, there is still a need for further adjustments to interface structure to enhance polarized electron density and electron transfer capacity. In this study, Cl-Ti 3 C 2 T x was prepared by Lewis acid molten salt etching of Ti 3 AlC 2 , and S-Ti 3 C 2 T x was prepared by replacing Cl with S. MoS 2 nanosheets were grown on the surface of S-Ti 3 C 2 T x by a simple hydrothermal method, forming a Ti-S-Mo covalent interface. The EMA properties of the composites were further optimized by adjusting the interface oriented polarization and electronic structure through Ni doping. Compared to MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x , the electromagnetic wave absorption performance of Ni-MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x had been significantly improved. When the Ni doping amount was 0.086 mmol, the minimum reflection loss of Ni-MoS 2 /TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x could reach −48.04 dB at 8.64 GHz, with an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.28 GHz. This study provides theoretical basis and experimental evidence for the follow-up research of MXene-based composite EMA materials.

Rational design and construction of bifunctional heterostructure electrocatalysts with high-conductivity and more active sites is imperative for water splitting. Herein, based on the tunable property of layered double hydroxide laminates cations, topological transformation technology and template confine method, a series of high-performance bifunctional catalysts composed of transition metal doping NiCo 2 S 4 (MNiCoS 4 , M = Cu, Fe, Zn, Mn) and 1T-MoS 2 were in-situ fabricated on nickel foam. In particular, CuNiCoS 4 /1T-MoS 2 exhibits an ultralow overpotential of 163 mV at 50 mA cm −2 for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and favorable hydrogen evolution reaction activity. The two-electrode system requires only 1.52 V to attain a current density of 10 mA cm −2 . To the best of our knowledge, its OER electrocatalytic activity far exceed state-of-art catalysts reported. The outstanding performance of this series of catalysts can be attributed to two aspects. First, the highly conductive 1T-MoS 2 can facilitate electron transfer , and second, the defect-rich heterostructure can effectively regulate the electronic structure of the active metal and expose abundant active sites. This work provides a valuable strategy for developing high activity electrocatalysts for efficient water splitting.

Incorporating suitable-sized nanoparticles into the organic phase of interfacial polymerization to form a nanomaterial-polyamide (PA) selective layer is a promising approach to enhancing membrane performance. In this work, we prepared novel thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes by modifying the PA layer with acyl chloride@MoS 2 nanoparticles. The nanoparticles added in the organic phase could obviously restrict the diffusion of piperazine monomers to the reaction zone during the interfacial polymerization process, demonstrated by both experiment results and molecular dynamics simulation. Compared to the thin-film composite (TFC) control membrane, the TFN membranes possessed a looser PA layer as well as a rougher and more hydrophilic surface with more negative charges, confirming the significant effects of the incorporated acyl chloride@MoS 2 nanoparticles on the PA layer formation. The optimal TFN membrane achieved a high Na 2 SO 4 rejection of 98.6% and a satisfying water permeance of 27.1 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 , over 2.9 times higher than that of the TFC membrane (9.3 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 ). Moreover, attributed to the chemical affinities (including covalent connection, hydrogen bonds, and electrostatic attraction) between acyl chloride groups of the nanoparticles and the PA matrix, the TFN membranes exhibited excellent long-term operation stability. The beneficial effect of grafting acyl chloride groups on the surface of MoS 2 nanoparticles was verified by the more superior membrane performance enabled by acyl chloride@MoS 2 than that achieved by original MoS 2 . This study offers a feasible strategy to improve the performance of TFN nanofiltration membranes by utilizing proper nanoparticles as organic phase additives.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) is a member of promising transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs); however, its practical application is restricted due to the heavy aggregation. 1T/2H-MoS 2 decorated with SiO 2 nanospheres was successfully prepared through a facile hydrothermal process demonstrating improved behavior for the visible-light-driven treatment of aquatic antibiotic residues. The prepared samples were characterized by XRD, Raman spectra, SEM, TEM, XPS, and KPFM systematically. The improved properties are related to the increased light absorption, decreased accumulation of 1T/2H-MoS 2 , and the reduced recombination of electron-hole pair due to the introduction of SiO 2 . Moreover, the scavenger studies confirm that superoxide radicals (⋅O 2 − ), hydroxyl radicals (⋅OH), and holes (h + ) play a vital role in the photocatalytic degradation of TC-HCl, and a possible mechanism for photocatalysis is discussed. This work provides a promising strategy to modify the photocatalytic performance by simply dispersing the photocatalyst with another component such as SiO 2 .

Perovskite materials are reported to be effective in peroxymonosulfate (PMS) based Fenton-like reactions, the leaching rates of chalcogenide materials in perovskite materials are however serious, thus leading to bad performance in long-term stability. In this study, an O-doped MoS 2 is synthesized to composite with LaCoO 3 , and the high catalytic activity of LaCoO 3 is well preserved with greatly decreased Co leaching. During the BPA degradation with PMS as oxidant, ∼100% degradation can be achieved in 20 min and this degradation efficiency can be maintained for ∼45 h in a simulated fixed bed reactor, which is almost 3 times longer than the pure LaCoO 3 . With the compositing of O-doped MoS 2 , the leached Co was greatly decreased and the dominated reactive oxidation species (ROS) transformed from SO 4 •– into O 2 •– with longer lifespan, thus resulting in the better stability. This study could promote the application of perovskite materials in the real industrial wastewater treatment .

Photoluminescence probes based on a conventional Fenton system show unsatisfactory sensitivity due to low H2O2 decomposition efficiency. Herein, we report that molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) show excellent co-catalytic activity for Fenton reactions due to the Mo4+ active sites on their surfaces facilitating Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle reactions and high H2O2 decomposition efficiency. The MoS2 QDs were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method, and the obtained MoS2 QDs showed blue fluorescence with a high quantum yield of 13.4%, storage stability, and excellent water-solubility. By using bifunctional MoS2 QDs acting as both the fluorescent probe and the Fenton catalyst, a MoS2 QDs co-catalytic Fenton sensor system was proposed for ultrasensitive and selective fluorescence sensing of H2O2 with a linear range from 0.01 to 20 μM and a detection limit of 5 nM (S/N = 3). When coupled with glucose oxidase, glucose can be detected in the range of 0.01–30 μM with a detection limit of 7 nM. Moreover, we successfully demonstrated the potential application of the proposed system for glucose sensing in actual biological samples. The novel strategy proposed in this work may open a new window of interest in an unconventional application of MoS2 QDs-Fenton sensor platform for environmental and biological applications.

Graphical His and HER : Nitrogen doped Cu 2 S/MoS 2 heterojunction nanorod arrays grafted on copper foam in situ have been created for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction. The results showed the remarkably improved catalytic activity by designing and tuning the heterostructure, conductivity and active sites. The fabrication of non-noble element electrocatalysts with comparable catalytic activity with Pt-based materials is in great requirements for water splitting to achieve sustainable hydrogen production. Cu 2 S/MoS 2 heterojunction nanorod arrays on copper foam were prepared for this purpose. The nitrogen doping was achieved in situ. HRTEM, SEM, XPS and EDX verified the heterojunction interfacial texture and the defect-rich nanoarray configuration. The heterojunction interfacial texture, the defect rich configuration and the outward active sites optimized the structure required as a high-efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst. As a result, the charge transfer resistance of the nanoarrays was estimated to be 5.4 Ω at −200 mV versus RHE, even lower than both the precursors. The electrochemical double layer capacitance was 49.95 mF cm −2 , which was higher than both the precursors. The Cu 2 S/MoS 2 heterojunction nanoarrays-like electrocatalyst exhibited significant performance with a low overpotential (91 mV at 10 mA cm −2 ) and a small Tafel slope (41 mV dec −1 ) in alkaline electrolyte with 85.3 % retained ability after 1000 cycle runs. This work paves a road for developing high-performance HER electrocatalysts.

Graphical Photo finish : A catalyst made of MoS 2 nanosheets loaded on Cu-doped CdS nanorods is synthesized through a facile two-step solvothermal approach. The working electrode is formed by loading a certain amount of catalyst on fluorine tin oxide. A significant increase in the photoelectrochemical performance is observed, owing to the synergistic effect between CdS and MoS 2 and fast interfacial charge transfer from the Cu 2+ doping. Transition-metal ion doping and efficient decoration by using a co-catalyst have been proven to effectively inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and broaden the visible-light response region. Here, we have constructed MoS 2 nanosheets decorated on a copper-doped CdS nanorod composite as a noble-metal-free photoelectrocatalyst. This kind of composite material was constructed through a simple solvothermal method. The morphology, structure, chemical states, photoelectrochemical properties, and other properties were tested by using a diverse range of analytical techniques. Owing to the Cu 2+ doping and the excellent electron-capturing ability of MoS 2 , 5 % MoS 2 /Cu−CdS (with 7 % Cu 2+ doping in CdS) exhibits excellent hydrogen evolution reaction with a rate of 10.18 mmol h −1 g −1 , which is about 48 times higher than that of pure CdS. A significant increase in the photoelectrochemical performance of the composite catalytic material benefits from the synergistic effect between CdS and MoS 2 and fast interfacial charge transfer, owing to the Cu 2+ doping. These findings provide a new thought for further research of the ion doping in photoelectrocatalytic field.

Molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS 2 QDs) are used in a fluorometric method for the determination of folic acid (FA) based on fluorescence quenching. The MoS 2 QDs synthesized by a hydrothermal method possess bright blue fluorescence (with excitation/emission maxima of 325/415 nm), quantum yield of 3.7%, and excellent storage stability in solution (30 days in the refrigerator). Their fluorescence is quenched by FA, and intensity decreases linearly in the 0.1 to 125 μM FA concentration range. The detection limit is 0.1 μM (at S/ N = 3), and the relative standard deviation (for n = 5) is 2.8% for 25 μM concentrations of FA. Studies on the quenching mechanism suggest that the effect is due to static quenching. The FA in commercial FA tablets was successfully determined.

Herein, MoS2nanoslices were simply prepared by using ultrasonic treatment, and were further decorated with Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) through an electrodeposition process to obtain the MoS2/Au nanocomposites. The obtained nanocomposites display synergetic electrocatalytic effect for the oxidation of dopamine due to the large surface area and two-dimensional structure of the MoS2nanoslices, combining with the high catalytic activity and good conductivity of AuNPs. An electrochemical sensor was constructed based on MoS2/Au-modified carbon paste electrode, for sensitive and quantitative determination of dopamine. The prepared electrochemical sensor proves excellent analytical performances: very high sensitivity, wide linear ranges (0.5–300 μM), and low detection limit (76 nM). Moreover, the dopamine sensor also displays high selectivity, good reproducibility and stability, and can be used in real sample analysis. The method of fabricating high-efficiency electrocatalysts and electrochemical sensors proposed in this study provides a good reference for developing more functionalized nanocomposites and for extending practical applications.Keywords:dopamine;MoS2;AuNPs;electrocatalyst;sensor

Polyethersulfone (PES) has been widely used as an ultrafiltration (UF) or nanofiltration (NF) membrane material in multiple industrial fields. But PES is hydrophobic in nature and easily contaminated. Thus, it is necessary to modify the PES membrane surface by physical or chemical methods for improving its hydrophilicity and other function. Herein, MoS 2 modified by zwitterionic 2-methacryloyloxy ethyl dimethyl (3-sulfopropyl)-ammonium hydroxide sulfobetaine methacrylate (MoS 2 -PSBMA) was synthesized with a reverse atom transfer radical polymerization method (RATRP) and used to prepare MoS 2 -PSBMA/PES composite membranes via conventional phase inversion. The effect of MoS 2 -PSBMA content on the structure and properties was investigated by SEM, FT-IR, AFM and contact angle measurements. It was found that the hydrophilicity of the composite membrane increased with the content of zwitterionic functionalized MoS 2 nanosheets. Moreover, the composite membranes possessed a higher water flux (108.3 L m −2 h −1 at 0.6 MPa) and dye retention, 98.2% for Reactive Black 5% and 99.3% for Reactive Green 19. However, the rejection of Na 2 SO 4 , MgCl 2 NaCl and MgSO 4 was low, i.e., 2.2%, 1.2%, 1.1% and 0.3%, respectively. In summary, the synthesized composite membrane exhibited high selectivity for dye/inorganic salts and had a large potential for dye waste water treatment.

Here we report a strategy to prepare electrocatalysts for hydrogen generation based on MoS 2 grown on highly conductive CoS 2 decorated carbon cloth (MoS 2 /CoS 2 /CC) through a two-step method. The rational design of sandwich structure of MoS 2 /CoS 2 /CC electrode was significant for homogenously dispersing MoS 2 on the carbon substrate, tuning the properties of the MoS 2 and improving long-term durability. Benefiting from the sandwich structure with highly exposed edges, fast electron transport and additional active sites brought by interfacial sulfur of Mo S Co, the resulting MoS 2 /CoS 2 /CC electrode exhibited superior HER activity and excellent stability in acid solution including an overpotential of 118 and 159 mV at current density of 10 and 100 mA/cm 2 , respectively, a Tafel slope of 37 mV per decade and excellent cycling stability in acid solution. The high catalytic performance and simplicity of the preparation method suggest applicability of the MoS 2 /CoS 2 /CC electrode for large-scale practical applications.
