Plastic waste causes serious pollution to the environment. Being not satisfied with simply disposing of them into environment, people want to efficiently convert it into high-value products, such as H 2 and carbon nanotubes . A trimetallic catalyst is provided herein, which adds Pr, Ce, La or Yb to a Co-Fe bimetallic catalyst to inhibit the formation of oil by-product in a plastic pyrolysis reaction. In this work, various plastics, including plastics with different functional groups and real plastic waste were used for pyrolysis with elemental hydrogen efficiencies above 95% in the gas product. For pyrolysis of EVA, the gaseous hydrogen efficiency reached 96.07%, and for pyrolysis of LLDPE , the gaseous hydrogen efficiency reached 95.56%, over Pr 1 Co 1 Fe 8 O x catalyst. The role of Pr in catalytic reactions is discussed in general and the formation of carbon nanotubes of various types of structures is simulated. Catalyst cycling experiments demonstrate that the catalyst still maintains a gas hydrogen efficiency of more than 70% after being used four times. In conclusion, the Pr 1 Co 1 Fe 8 O x catalyst proved to be the best choice for microwave-assisted catalytic pyrolysis of plastics to H 2 , and this work provides a new perspect for the study of plastic pyrolysis.

The hierarchical porous and chemical microenvironmental properties of Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have been emphasized in catalytic applications. In this work, after selectively removing ligands from frameworks of Ce-UiO-66 by monocarboxylic acid etching, they exhibit obvious mesoporous properties with essentially unchanged crystallinity. Distinguishing from other pore-making methods, the MOFs have abundant missing sites after etching, and Ni nanoparticles (NPs) can be efficiently anchored in the framework of defective Ce-UiO-66, resulting in the formation of Ce–O–Ni heterogeneous interfaces. The chemical environments of Ni NPs can be modulated through the Ce–O–Ni interfaces, and the metal–support interaction improves the charge densities between the active sites. The prepared catalysts showed high conversion and selectivity in the hydrogenation reaction of dicyclopentadiene, and also had good cycling performance. The present work provides new insights into the construction of hierarchical porous defective MOFs with abundant heterogeneous interfaces for hydrogenation reactions.

In order to enhance the carrier separation efficiency and redox ability of photoanode, a dual Z-scheme heterojunction Ce-UiO-66/g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 /Ti photoanode was prepared and assembled with Cu cathode to form PFC. The characterization results show that Ce-UiO-66/g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 uniformly distributed on the Ti substrate, with average crystallite size of 9.04 nm and average particle size of 33.05 nm, which provides sufficient reactive active sites for RhB degradation. The RhB degradation rate, P max , J sc , V oc and FF of the PFC were 90.9 % (90 min), 7.53 µW cm -2 , 0.152 mA cm -2 , 0.37 V and 0.134, respectively. The turnover frequency (TOF) for RhB degradation by the PFC reached 0.98 h -1 . Fermi energy level analysis shows that a double-Z heterojunction is formed between Bi 2 WO 6 and g-C 3 N 4 , and between Bi 2 WO 6 and Ce-UiO-66, which not only effectively separates photogenerated e - - h + , but also retains the high redox ability of the composite. Moreover, with the introduction of Ce-UiO-66, the composite photoanode has larger specific surface area and wider visible light absorption range. In addition, because of the built-in electric field, the photogenerated electrons can migrate to the surface of composite particles more easily and react with dissolved oxygen to generate more •O 2 - to participate in the degradation of RhB. This work provides a valuable reference for developing PFC photoanode with high efficiency and visible light response.

This research delves into the methane dry reforming, meticulously exploring the structural-evolution of Ni-Ce bimetallic alloy on Al 2 O 3 support during the reaction-process and its impact on catalytic performance. By delicately tuning the cerium content to an optimal proportion of 10 wt%, we achieved a remarkable optimization of the catalyst structure, fostering the low-temperature reduction of nickel-species and an increase in oxygen-vacancies. At 800 °C, this optimized catalyst exhibited a methane conversion as high as 98.34 % (maintained for 50 h), significantly outperforming the Ni@Al 2 O 3 . Our findings revealed that the synergistic-interaction between the Ni-Ce bimetallic properties and the hydrogen-reduction-process enhanced the crystallinity and accessibility of active-sites within the catalytic. In-situ DRIFT spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that the adoption of a cerium modulation strategy markedly enhances the adsorption and dissociation efficiency of reactants, while effectively mitigating the formation of carbon deposition during extended reaction periods. Consequently, this ensures that the catalyst maintains exceptional activity throughout a continuous 50-hours operation. This study expands the new adsorption and carbon-accumulation mechanism in the methane dry reforming and lays a solid-foundation for its industrial application.

To address the challenges of structural degradation and low solar absorptivity in calcium-based thermochemical energy storage systems under high-temperature cycling, we propose a novel Mn/Al/Ce ternary-doped CaO composite (Ca10Mn1Al1Ce1) optimized for solar-driven calcium looping applications. Through a sol-gel synthesis strategy, the co-doping strategy synergistically integrates structural stabilization mediated by Ca 2 MnO 4 /Ca 3 Al 2 O 6 frameworks, carbonation kinetics enhancement through CeO 2 -induced oxygen vacancies, and Mn element doping, significantly improving the material's solar energy absorption performance. The optimized material demonstrates unprecedented cycling stability with only 5.6 % energy density decay over 200 cycles, outperforming pure CaO (73.5 % degradation after 100 cycles). Kinetic analysis reveals accelerated calcination rates enabled by Mn doping, while DFT calculations confirm an 18.3 % reduction in CaCO 3 decomposition energy barriers. Remarkably, the composite achieves a 3.9-fold enhancement in solar absorptivity through synergistic full-spectrum light harvesting. This work establishes a multifunctional doping strategy that simultaneously addresses sintering resistance, solar absorptance, and reaction kinetics, offering a promising pathway for next-generation concentrated solar power plants requiring high-temperature, long-cycle thermochemical energy storage.

Treating real electroplating wastewater is challenging due to the coexistence of organic contaminants and heavy metal ions, which collectively increase toxicity and pose serious risks to human and environmental health. In this study, the simultaneous removal of a typical organic pollutant (benzodiacetone) and a heavy metal ion (Cr(VI)) from electroplating effluent was investigated using a heterogeneous electro-Fenton process catalyzed by a novel Ce-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 material. Comprehensive characterization and theoretical calculations confirmed the excellent catalytic performance of the synthesized catalyst. Under near-neutral conditions, the electro-Fenton system achieved removal efficiencies of 99.1 % for benzodiacetone and 98.8 % for Cr(VI). The mechanism of simultaneous degradation was explored, revealing that Ce doping enhanced Fe redox cycling by lowering the binding energy between H 2 O 2 and Fe and facilitating electron transfer from Fe (III) to Fe (II). Additionally, Ce doping improved the stability and reusability of the catalyst. And the Ce could also extend the lifetime and reusability of the catalyst. This work developed a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst in the electro-Fenton process and demonstrated that the Ce-Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 catalyst had a superior application potential in synergic removal of Cr(VI) and benzodiacetone area.

(Co)doping luminescent center(s) in a host is a universal strategy to photoluminescence (PL) modulations for extensive applications, yet its mechanism and interactions between structure and behavior in many phosphors remain ambiguous. Herein, via a facile sol–gel reaction method, differently tendentious occupations of Ce3+ in distinct crystallographic sites of K3YSi2O7 (KYS) lead to tunable PL in between blue and bluish-green under diverse excitations with high quantum efficiency. The generation of wide trap energy levels originating from heterovalent substitution Tb3+ → K+ could entrust Tb3+ as both PL and long-persistent PL (LPL) centers in green. Due to temperature-dependent filling/releasing rates of captured carriers, strong thermal-induced LPL could be obtained in KYS: Tb. By codoping Ce/Tb in KYS, multimode anticounterfeiting and information storage/encryption of KYS: Ce/Tb are realized with high security level via a screen printing technique. Because Ce and Tb possess different temperature-dependent quenching behaviors, optical temperature sensing is achieved with high absolute/relative sensitivity. To further enhance the KYS: Ce/Tb performance, trap depth engineering via equivalent substitution Gd → Y is further executed. The colorimetric/photometric analyses here provide new insights into designing novel stable and single-phased phosphor for applications in advanced anticounterfeiting technology and optical thermometry.

Two rapid and sensitive analytical methods are developed for the determination of D-penicillamine (D-PEN) and tiopronin (TP) through high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD) and capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection (CE-LIF). A boron-dipyrrolemethene (BODIPY) fluorescence labeling reagent, 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-8-bromomethyl-difluoroboradiaza-s-indacene (TMMB-Br) was successfully applied to derivatize these two thiol drugs. Fluorescein was used as the internal standard (IS) for the quantification of D-PEN and TP in CE-LIF. The derivatization and separation conditions were optimized carefully. Under the optimum conditions, the HPLC and CE separation of D-PEN and TP could be achieved within 12 min. The limits of detection were as low as 2.0 nmol/L for HPLC-FLD and 0.47 nmol/L for CE-LIF. The drugs in human urine and serum samples were determined successfully, and the recoveries were 95.0–06.7% and 95.2–104.3%, respectively.

Ce–Ni mixed oxides with different Ni/Ce molar ratios, promoted by a rather low amount of Pd (0.2 wt%), were prepared by a simple one-pot precipitation method. The thus-synthesized CeNiXOY and Pd–CeNiXOY catalysts were applied respectively to the direct N-alkylation of amine and alcohol via oxidative coupling, under O2 in the absence of basic additives. The CeNiXOY catalyst could provide a >99% yield of imine in the model alkylation reaction of aniline with benzyl alcohol at 100 °C. The Pd-promoted Pd–CeNiXOY catalyst surprisingly showed an enhanced imine yield (>99%) at a mild temperature of 60 °C. This catalyst exhibited good reusability, and moreover, demonstrated high performance towards imine synthesis from various amines with alcohols. The presence of Pd species and the Ni/Ce molar ratio showed a synergistic impact on the conversion of aniline, as well as on the product selectivity, which was believed to be related to the improvement on the intrinsic activity of the oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. Various physicochemical techniques, including ICP-MS, XRD, N2 adsorption–desorption, UV-Raman, H2-TPR, TEM, EPMA and XPS, were employed to study mainly the composition, structure and redox properties of the catalysts. The proportion of Ce3+ species and oxygen vacancies, which can be manipulated by the Ce–Ni redox system and the interaction between Ce and Ni, was crucial to the selective activation of alcohols in the presence of reactive amines. The activation of alcohol on the highly reactive Pd0 species was the other crucial factor.

Cerium modification modulates the surface acidity and metal-support interactions of the Ni/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst. • Cerium species can not only suppress the formation of strong acid sites, but also regulate the adsorption configuration of pyridine molecules. • The enhanced electron transfer from cerium to nickel improves the reducibility and hydrogen activation performance of nickel. • The Ni/Al–Ce(10) catalyst achieves high catalytic activity in the pyridine hydrogenation reaction. To address the key challenge of achieving both high conversion and high selectivity in the selective hydrogenation of pyridine, this paper proposes a strategy of precisely modulating the surface acidity and metal–support interaction of an alumina support via cerium (Ce) modification. The study shows that Ce modification effectively suppresses the strong acid sites on the alumina surface, thereby promoting the desorption of the target product, piperidine. Meanwhile, Ce doping induces a flat-lying adsorption configuration of pyridine molecules, which is more favorable for the saturation hydrogenation of the aromatic ring, significantly enhancing the hydrogenation selectivity. Ce species facilitate electron transfer to the nickel active centers, increasing the local electron density around the nickel sites. This reduces the binding energy of nickel, enhances its reducibility, and effectively inhibits the formation of nickel aluminate spinel (NiAl 2 O 4 ), thereby improving the intrinsic hydrogenation activity of the catalyst. Under the reaction condition of 200 °C, the Ni/Al–Ce (10) catalyst achieves a pyridine conversion of 99.5% and a piperidine selectivity of 97.4%. The catalytic activity of DRM reaction over 1M-1Co-1Ce/AC-N (M = Ca and Mg) catalysts was investigated at 800 °C and under atmospheric pressure. By promoting N-doped activated carbon supported Co-Ce catalysts with alkaline-earth metals to obtain catalysts with better catalytic performance is the main purpose of study. The catalysts were prepared by wet-impregnation method and the influence of impregnation sequence on catalytic performance was also studied. The characterization was conducted using TPR, TPD , XPS, TEM and Raman. The catalyst 1Ca-1Co-1Ce/AC-N promoted with Ca and prepared by co-impregnation exhibited higher catalytic activity than unmodified. This was mainly due to the stronger interaction between metal and support as well as better active metals dispersion. The 1Ca-1Co-1Ce/AC-N catalysts also displayed excellent stability and XPS results indicated that higher Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ and O β /(O α +O β ) ratios were observed on this catalyst. However, the catalyst 1Co-1Ce/1Ca/AC-N prepared with sequential impregnation exhibited poor stability. In addition, the TEM of the spent catalysts revealed that there were a large number of carbons were generated on active metal surface.

Biomass is a sustainable and renewable resource that can be converted into valuable chemicals, reducing the demand for fossil energy. 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), as an important biomass platform molecule, can be converted to high-value-added 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) via a green and renewable electrocatalytic oxidation route under mild reaction conditions, but efficient electrocatalysts are still lacking. Herein, we rationally fabricate a novel self-supported electrocatalyst of core–shell-structured copper hydroxide nanowires@cerium-doped nickel hydroxide nanosheets composite nanowires on a copper mesh (CuH_NWs@Ce:NiH_NSs/Cu) for electrocatalytically oxidizing HMF to FDCA. The integrated configuration of composite nanowires with rich interstitial spaces between them facilitates fast mass/electron transfer, improved conductivity, and complete exposure of active sites. The doping of Ce ions in nickel hydroxide nanosheets (NiH_NSs) and the coupling of copper hydroxide nanowires (CuH_NWs) regulate the electronic structure of the Ni active sites and optimize the adsorption strength of the active sites to the reactant, meanwhile promoting the generation of strong oxidation agents of Ni3+ species, thereby resulting in improved electrocatalytic activity. Consequently, the optimal CuH_NWs@Ce:NiH_NSs/Cu electrocatalyst is able to achieve a HMF conversion of 98.5% with a FDCA yield of 97.9% and a Faradaic efficiency of 98.0% at a low constant potential of 1.45 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. Meanwhile, no activity attenuation can be found after 15 successive cycling tests. Such electrocatalytic performance suppresses most of the reported Cu-based and Ni-based electrocatalysts. This work highlights the importance of structure and doping engineering strategies for the rational fabrication of high-performance electrocatalysts for biomass upgrading.
