Expanding the application field of fuel cell type gas sensors is of great significance for achieving high sensitivity, real-time gas detection at room temperature. Here, we developed a fuel cell type NO 2 gas sensor based on MoS 2 nanosheet/Carbon fiber (CF) sensing electrode and Nafion proton conductor , enabling the fuel cell type sensor to detect NO 2 for the first time. The effect of MoS 2 loadings(10, 20, 40, 60 and 80 mg) on the sensors’ performance and the sensitizing mechanism are investigated, the sensor containing 40 mg MoS 2 exhibits the best performance, which can be attributed to the large number of active sites and efficient carrier transport properties of the corresponding electrode materials. At room temperature, the optimal sensor demonstrates a sensitivity of 45.6 nA/ppm to 1–50 ppm NO 2 and an ultra-low detection limit of 28.8 ppb, both the response and recovery time are less than 60 s. This work not only develops a highly sensitive, reversible and fast response NO 2 gas sensor, but also provides insights into sensing electrochemistry, material selection and catalyst/support materials, offering guidelines for future fuel cell type gas sensors to monitor a wider range of environmental pollutants.

In order to construct highly sensitive and stable QCM gas sensor, we present an innovative strategy. Firstly, we employ a physical vapor deposition (PVD) method to coat a thin layer of copper on the surface of QCM silver electrode. Then, a novel metal complex as sensing material, [Cu(DDS) 2 (Cl) 2 (MeOH) 2 ], is grown in-situ on the copper layer to ensure a strong coupling between metal complex sensing materials and QCM electrode. The sensing material is characterized through following instruments: elemental analysis, single crystal XRD, SEM, PXRD, IR spectra and TGA. The sensing test results indicate that the QCM sensor exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity toward gaseous formaldehyde because of a reversible interaction between amino group and HCHO molecule. The detection limit reaches down to 50 ppb. This implies the facile-fabricated sensor has a great potential in the area of rapid, stable, sensitive, and selective formaldehyde on-site detection. Based on the temperature-varying micro-gravimetric experiment, enthalpy change is quantitatively obtained, which indicates that the interaction between the complex and HCHO molecules belongs to chemical adsorption. The values of ΔH calculated by Gaussian 09 indicate that chemical adsorption between NH 2 group and aldehyde group play a leading role in detecting selectively formaldehyde gas.

Various gas sensors have made considerable improvements to the quality of people's lives. However, in most cases, changing of materials is necessary to adapt to the changing of the target gas, which limits the further application of gas sensors. To meet this challenge, in this work, molecular imprinting (MI) technology is introduced. Acrylic acid is used as a functional monomer, while gas molecules, including acetone, are used as templates. The MI process with an acetone template helps improve the acetone selectivity of TiO2 by up to 1.74–2.80 times. Moreover, it proved that other templates can increase the corresponding selectivity by at least 1.5 times by using the same matrix material. These results demonstrate the potential importance of the MI process in constructing a highly compatible gas sensor industry. Beyond this, the MI process has proved to achieve an ultrahigh specific surface area of 384.36 m2 · g−1. The optimal acetone sensor exhibits desirable comprehensive performance compared with other reports. An excellent TiO2 based prototype acetone sensor working at 300 °C with a low detection limit of 18 ppb is obtained.

The reactive interfacial sites upon supported catalysts provide an alternative pathway to enable the reactants activation in an energetically favorable mode, thus decreasing the energy barrier and promoting the catalytic efficiency. By virtue of structural characterization, in-situ spectroscopic analysis, kinetic assessments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, supported Pt/TiN catalysts are systematically studied to interrogate H 2 O activation on the Pt-TiN interfacial sites and its catalytic function during the low-temperature water gas shift (WGS). It is found that the partially oxygen-covered TiN surface is highly efficient for H 2 O activation by oxygen-assisted dissociation with an energy barrier of 0.41 eV, much less than that on metallic Pt surface. The formed hydroxyls binding on Ti sites, observed by in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD), could readily react with the adjacent CO adsorbed on Pt clusters with the reaction energy barrier of 0.43 eV to attain the individual catalytic cycle. Benefiting from the enhanced H 2 O activation, the catalytic turnover rate of CO-H 2 O reaction on Pt/TiN is 3.8 and 20.3 times higher than that on traditional Pt/TiO 2 and Pt/SiO 2 at 403 K, respectively. The interfacial reactive sites are the origin of low-temperature WGS on Pt/TiN catalysts.

Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and m-xylene (BTEX) are typical volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that pose serious threats to human health. However, their inherent chemical stability and low reactivity render selective and sensitive detection particularly challenging. Herein, we report a p–n heterostructured gas sensing material comprising hollow Co 3 O 4 nanocubes embedded in porous ZnO nanotubes (Co 3 O 4 /ZnO NTs), fabricated via coaxial electrospinning and Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived pyrolysis. The engineered architecture combines the large surface area and porosity of ZnO nanotubes with the abundant active sites of Co 3 O 4 , facilitating efficient gas diffusion and charge transport. The resulting sensors exhibit markedly enhanced responses to BTEX gases, particularly ethylbenzene. At 50 ppm, the responses to benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and m-xylene are 2.3, 12.2, 46.5, and 30.9 times higher, respectively, than those of pristine ZnO nanotubes. In addition, the sensor demonstrates excellent selectivity for ethylbenzene and stable long-term operation. This work demonstrates an effective strategy for tuning oxide heterojunctions toward high-sensitivity, selective detection of aromatic VOCs, offering practical value for environmental monitoring.

Developing a room temperature, real-time, and efficient sensor for trimethylamine (TMA) detection remains a challenge in food safety and disease screening. Ti 3 C 2 T x , a two-dimensional material with abundant surface functional groups, is expected to form sensing materials of low operating temperature when combined with metal oxides. In this work, a series of Ti 3 C 2 T x -CuGa 2 O 4 composites were prepared using the hydrothermal method. The gas-sensing experiment found that the response values of composites were improved towards TMA at room temperature (RT). Notably, the 9.1 wt% Ti 3 C 2 T x -CuGa 2 O 4 (MCU-10) composite exhibited a response value of 33.5 towards 100 ppm TMA-a 26.8-fold enhancement compared with CuGa 2 O 4 , with a response time of 4.3 s and a recovery time of 25.7 s. Meanwhile, the MCU-10 sensor showed outstanding gas-sensing selectivity, repeatability, and long-term stability in the sensing process. The reasons of enhanced gas-sensing properties are attributed to the incorporation of abundant surface functional groups and the higher content of oxygen vacancies. Besides, a potential explanation for the abnormal sensing behavior of CuGa 2 O 4 towards reducing gases is proposed. This work not only proposes a promising sensing material for TMA gas sensors but also highlights the potence of Ti 3 C 2 T x as a sensitizing agent in the field of gas-sensing materials.

In situ tracking reveals the electrochemical decomposition pathway of Li 2 NiO 2 . • Metal doping stabilizes lattice oxygen and mitigates gas evolution. • Excellent cycling stability: 87% capacity retention at 1 C after 250 cycles. Li 2 NiO 2 (LNO) as a prelithiation additive faces critical challenges including poor rate capability (≤0.1 C), limited capacity, and gas evolution during cycling. Here, we report a metal-dopant lattice engineering strategy that simultaneously addresses these challenges through three synergistic mechanisms: (i) particle size reduction from 30 μm to 500 nm, shortening Li + diffusion pathways; (ii) b-axis lattice expansion (Δb/b ≈ 0.29%) and bandgap narrowing (from 1.2 eV to 0.6 eV), enhancing both ionic and electronic transport; and (iii) strengthened oxygen anchoring via short Cu–O bonds (1.885 Å), suppressing superoxide-related side reactions. Critically, this synthesis employs a one-step solid-state heat treatment using only conventional furnace equipment, directly compatible with existing production lines. The doped LNO (Li 2 Ni 0.9 Cu 0.1 O 2 , designated as LCNO) delivers an exceptional capacity of 492.1 mAh g⁻ 1 at 0.5 C (vs. 282.0 mAh g⁻ 1 for pristine LNO). When integrated into manufacturing-relevant NCM-811‖Si/C pouch cells activated under fast-formation protocols (2 h), LCNO delivers 87% capacity retention (vs. 80% for pristine LNO) after 250 cycles with suppressed gas evolution. Notably, this scalable doping strategy enables industrial manufacturing, bridging the gap from laboratory innovation to commercial production for high-performance prelithiation additives. Titanium-based metal–organic frameworks (Ti-BDC MOFs) were synthesized via a solvothermal route at different temperatures ranging from 110 to 170 °C using terephthalic acid as the organic linker. The synthesized samples were systematically characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to investigate their structural, morphological, optical, and thermal properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies revealed temperature-dependent variations in crystallinity and phase evolution, while FESEM analysis demonstrated significant morphological transformations with increasing synthesis temperature. EDX confirmed the presence of Ti, O, and C elements, validating the successful formation of the Ti-BDC framework. FTIR spectra verified the coordination between Ti metal centers and BDC linkers, whereas TGA indicated good thermal stability with framework integrity maintained up to approximately 280 °C. Ultraviolet–visible studies were employed to determine the optical band gap, and BET analysis revealed the microporous and hierarchical porous nature of the synthesized materials. Gas sensing characteristics toward n-butanol were evaluated under ambient conditions using the static liquid distribution method. Among all samples, the Ti-BDC MOF synthesized at 150 °C exhibited the best sensing performance toward 5 ppm n-butanol, showing superior response–recovery behavior, excellent selectivity, and long-term stability, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.66 ppm. The enhanced sensing performance is attributed to the optimized crystallinity, porous architecture, and abundant active adsorption sites that facilitate efficient gas diffusion and charge transfer processes. These findings demonstrate the potential of Ti-BDC MOFs as promising sensing materials for low-concentration n-butanol detection in environmental monitoring and workplace safety applications.

While conventional polymeric gas separation membranes are limited by the inherent permeability-selectivity trade-off, mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) often suffer from poor interfacial compatibility and non-selective void defects. Herein, rigid flaky polyimide (PI)-type covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were solvothermally synthesized using 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine (TAP) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The obtained COFs were adopted as functional fillers and blended into hydroxyl-containing polyimide (HPI) precursor derived from 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane (6FAP) and 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) to prepare thermally rearranged (TR) MMMs. The as-synthesized COFs possess excellent thermal stability, distinctive porous structure and moderate interfacial affinity with the polymer matrix, which effectively enhances the gas separation performance of the obtained membranes. At a PI-type COF loading of 2.0 wt%, the MMM treated at 450 °C for 1 h achieves superior separation performance. The permeabilities toward H 2 , CO 2 , O 2 and N 2 reach 2446, 2920, 495 and 131 Barrer, and the corresponding ideal selectivities of H 2 /N 2 , CO 2 /N 2 and O 2 /N 2 are 18.67, 22.29 and 3.77, respectively. Remarkably, the H 2 /N 2 separation behavior exceeds the 2008 Robeson upper bound, and CO 2 /N 2 as well as O 2 /N 2 separation performances are close to this limit. Elevated treatment temperature and extended heating time remarkably improve gas permeability but sacrifice membrane selectivity. Moreover, the fabricated MMMs display satisfactory anti-aging stability after 180-day ambient storage. This study develops a valid modification strategy via flaky PI-type COF incorporation to elevate the gas separation performance of TR polymers, providing a promising route for constructing high-efficiency gas separation membranes.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) combine the flexibility of polymer membranes and the excellent gas separation performance of porous materials, and have attracted extensive attention in the field of gas separation in recent years. In this work, a novel fluorinated non-coplanar diamine monomer 2,2-bis(4-(4-amino-2-methoxyphenoxy)phenyl)hexafluoropropane (AMPH) was synthesized through molecular design. Fluorinated non-coplanar copolyimide (AFPI) was fabricated by copolymerizing AMPH with 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) and 9,9-bis(4-amino-3-fluorophenyl)fluorene (FFDA). Subsequently, Zr-BTB, a zirconium-based metal-organic framework with high CO 2 affinity and structural stability, was incorporated into the AFPI matrix to fabricate AFPI/Zr-BTB MMMs with different mass loadings. Benefiting from the introduced fluorine groups, AFPI possesses enlarged free volume to accelerate gas permeation. Meanwhile, two-dimensional Zr-BTB facilitates selective CO 2 adsorption over N 2 through thermodynamic adsorption affinity for improved separation performance. Compared with the pristine membrane, the CO 2 and O 2 permeabilities of MMMs increase by 277% and 237% at 15 wt% Zr-BTB loading, and the ideal CO 2 /N 2 and O 2 /N 2 selectivities rise by 45% and 33% at 5 wt% loading. This confirms that embedding Zr-BTB into copolyimide to fabricate MMMs is a promising strategy for developing high-performance gas separation membranes.

Biomineralization of bacterial as a ultrasound (US)-triggered CO generator. • Engineered bacteria can decompose through acid-response in tumor microenvironment. • Self-supplying H 2 O 2 , amelioration of hypoxia, Ca 2+ -induced mitochondria damage. • US-triggered CO release for apoptosis in tumor cells. • Activating anti-tumor immune responses for significant inhibition of tumor growth. Carbon monoxide (CO) gas therapy is emerging as a highly promising strategy in cancer treatment. However, the tumor-targeted delivery and on-demand release of CO remain formidable challenges, and monotherapeutic efficacy is inherently limited. To address these issues, we report a self-guided “CO-releasing bomb” constructed by armoring Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) with 3-hydroxyflavone-D-alanine (HF-D-Ala) and calcium peroxide (CaO 2 ) nanoparticles (EHC). Upon reaching the acidic, hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME), CaO 2 instantly generates Ca 2+ and H 2 O 2 ; the bacterium then self-catalyzes H 2 O 2 to produce a local O 2 burst. Subsequent ultrasound irradiation triggers HF-D-Ala to liberate a high concentration of CO owing to the O 2 -rich environment, selectively damaging tumor-cell mitochondria and inducing apoptotic death. Moreover, the O 2 generation alleviates tumor hypoxia and reverses the immunosuppressive TME. Concurrently, E. coli antigens promote dendritic cell maturation and enhance T-lymphocyte recruitment and infiltration. In vivo studies demonstrate that the EHC under US irradiation significantly suppresses tumor growth and potently activates antitumor immunity. These findings provide compelling evidence to support the potential application of combined CO gas therapy and immunotherapy for in vivo tumor treatment. Thermally rearranged (TR) polymers are promising membrane materials due to their excellent gas permeability and thermal stability. Nevertheless, the harsh thermal rearrangement conditions (typically >400 °C) and limited intrinsic selectivity severely hinder their application for helium (He) recovery. Herein, we propose a synergistic Claisen rearrangement-crosslinking (CRX) strategy to address this issue. The He/CH 4 selectivity of the CRX hollow fibers increased from 59.47 in precursors to 120.51, corresponding to an enhancement of 102.6%. Moreover, SEM images revealed that 2D shrinkage mode effectively alleviated thermal densification, resulting in a ∼ 15% thinner skin layer. Consequently, the CRX-240-1 h-2D membranes achieved a higher He permeance of 281.66 GPU while maintaining excellent He/CH 4 selectivity. Importantly, under operating conditions of 70 °C and 0.5 MPa, CRX-240-1 h-2D membranes still maintained outstanding performance. Overall, this work provides an energy-efficient and reliable approach for the fabrication of TR hollow fiber membranes, showing great potential for helium recovery from natural gas.
