Iron-based metal organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) have been regarded as the ideal precursors for synthesis of iron-carbon micro-electrolysis (IC-ME) materials. However, their conventional autoclave-based fabrication limits large-scale application, and the potential of the resulting Fe@C composites derived from Fe-MOFs for Cr(VI) reduction remains underexplored. Herein, a facile stirring method conducted under ambient conditions was successfully developed. The evolution from Fe-MOFs to Fe@C was comprehensively characterized, and its reductive capacity for Cr(VI) was systematically evaluated. The effect of key experimental parameters including reaction time, initial pH value, electrolyte concentration, catalyst dosage, and environmental matrices on Cr(Ⅵ) removal were investigated in detail on the basis of the concentration variation of Fe ions released into water. The obtained results indicated that the rate of Cr(VI) removal-efficiency change (Δη/Δt) was positively corelated with that of Fe(II) concentration change (Δ C Fe(II) /Δ t) and 98.2% of Cr(VI) was removed within 60 min under the optimized conditions. According to the results of XPS with ion sputtering, Cr(VI) was removed via multiple pathways including adsorption, reduction and co-precipitation. This work not only offers a scalable route for MOFs-derived IC-ME materials, but also provides mechanistic insights into Cr(VI) removal from the perspective of Fe(II) dynamics.

Defect-induced hierarchical HP-Fe-MOF enables efficient dual-enzyme immobilization. • The interaction of substrates with Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF was studied by microcalorimetry. • Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF exhibits high catalytic activity and enhanced substrate affinity. • Efficient degradation of butyl xanthate was achieved using Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as highly promising platforms for enzyme immobilization owing to their tunable porosity, large specific surface area, and outstanding stability. However, enzyme leakage and increased substrate mass transfer resistance have seriously hindered their practical applications. Herein, based on defect-induced pore engineering, we developed a facile and universal approach for dual-enzyme co-immobilization (glucose oxidase, GOx, and horseradish peroxidase, HRP) using hierarchical porous iron-based MOFs (denoted as HP-Fe-MOF). Precise modulation of crystal defects endows HP-Fe-MOF with hierarchical structure, which effectively addresses the issues of high mass transfer resistance and enzyme leaching, and further enhances catalytic efficiency. The intrinsic hierarchical porous features of HP-Fe-MOF facilitate strong enzyme-carrier interactions, achieving a maximum enzyme loading capacity of 169.6 mg/g and high substrate conversion efficiency (∼95%). The biocomposite, Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF, integrated the structural merits of HP-Fe-MOF and the catalytic properties of dual-enzymes, thereby exhibiting superior catalytic activity, exceptional stability, as well as enhanced binding affinity for substrates. This affinity enhancement stems from optimized enzyme-substrate interactions, which was elucidated via enzyme kinetic and thermodynamic analyses to clarify the structure-function relationship underlying its enhanced catalytic efficiency. Notably, the biocomposite maintained more than 12 times higher relative activity than the free enzyme after incubation at 70 °C for 1 h, and above 70% enzyme activity after 15 cycles. Based on these advantages, Dual-En@HP-Fe-MOF was successfully applied to the efficient degradation of butyl xanthate, underscoring the great potential of MOF-immobilized dual-enzyme composites as advanced biological macromolecular materials for environmental remediation. The oral delivery of protein-based drugs is of great significance, but faces various obstacles, including the deactivation of proteins by the low pH in the stomach and the high concentration of protease, poor transport through intestinal bio-barriers, etc. Herein, we present an acid-resistant metal–organic framework (MOF), NU-1000, in which insulin (Ins, a model protein) was loaded with high capacity (Ins@NU-1000) through the pseudo second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model. Ins@NU-1000 protects Ins from deactivation in the stomach acid environment and releases it in the intestine through the transformation of the micro-sized rod particles into spherical nanoparticles. Interestingly, the rod particles exhibit long-term retention in the intestine, and Ins is efficiently transported by the shrunk nanoparticles through intestinal bio-barriers and released into the blood, resulting in significant oral hypoglycemic effects (lasting more than 16 h after a single oral administration). Our findings demonstrate that switching the physical properties of the delivery vehicle, such as the shape and size, can contribute to the success of oral protein administration.

The leaked hazardous chemicals pose significant risks due to their harmful and combustible nature. Removing them from the environment has become an arduous task for both the industrial sector and academic community. In this paper, Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) nanosheets and metal-organic framework (ZIF-8 MOFs) functionalized polyurethane (PU) sponges (PU-Ti 3 C 2 T x -MOF sponges) were prepared by immersion coating and in-situ growth techniques. The as-prepared PU-Ti 3 C 2 T x -MOF sponge exhibited superior hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 135°. Additionally, it demonstrated a higher adsorption capacity and rapid adsorption ability for liquid hazardous chemicals within 1 min, while still maintaining good reusability for adsorption. The PU-Ti 3 C 2 T x -MOF 2 sponge had the highest adsorption capacity of 48–91 times of its own mass for liquid hazardous chemicals. Furthermore, it demonstrated excellent reusability, maintaining its high adsorption capacity for oils and organic solvents even after being used 5 times. These results surpass previously reported data and highlight the superior capabilities of the PU-Ti 3 C 2 T x -MOF 2 sponge. Meanwhile, the PU-Ti 3 C 2 T x -MOF sponge maintained the excellent flame retardancy and compressibility . This work provides a new pathway for the design of functional polymer sponges and their potential application in rapid elimination of the leaked hazardous chemicals.

The efficient removal of Tetracycline Hydrochloride (TC) from wastewater, which is a difficult process, has attracted increasing attention. Aiming to synchronously achieve the goal of natural waste utilization and PMS activation, we have combined the MOFs material with waste coffee grounds (CG). The catalytic activity of the CG@ZIF-67 composite in the TC removal process was thoroughly evaluated, demonstrating that the TC removal rate could reach 96.3% within 30 min at CG@ZIF-67 composite dosage of 100 mg/L, PMS concertation of 1.0 mM, unadjusted pH 6.2, and contact temperate of 293.15 K. The1O2and ·SO4−in the CG@ZIF-67/PMS/TC system would play the crucial role in the TC degradation process, with1O2acting as the primary ROS. The oxygen-containing functional groups and graphite N on the surface of CG@ZIF-67 composite would play a major role in efficiently activating PMS and correspondingly degrading TC. In addition, the CG@ZIF-67/PMS/TC system could withstand a wide pH range (3–11). The application of CG in preparing MOF-based composites will provide a new method of removing emerging pollutants from an aqueous solution. Keywords:tetracycline hydrochloride;CG@ZIF-67 composite;utilization of natural waste;peroxymonosulfate

Natural biopolymers have widespread applications in active food packaging attribute to their low-cost, easy availability, environmental-friendly, and excellent processibility. Extensive attention has been paid to integrate or modify nanostructures on biopolymer substrates to endow packaging materials with satisfactory preservation effects. Herein, green γ-cyclodextrin-metal-organic frameworks (γ-CD-MOFs) were successfully integrated on chitosan-cellulose (CS-CEL) polysaccharide film through in situ growth method and encapsulated with carvacrol (CAR) for controlled release active packaging. The γ-CD-MOFs were anchored on CS-CEL film depending on the coordination of glucose units in CS-CEL and potassium ion , which significantly improved the surface area of CS-CEL film from 1.0294 m 2 /g to 43.3458 m 2 /g. Furthermore, the molecular docking and 1 H NMR spectra indicated that γ-CD-MOF has better complexing and stabilizing ability for CAR molecules than γ-CD. Additionally, the inhibition rate of this composite film against Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus and Botrytis cinerea reached more than 99%. The film performed a humidity-controlled release effect on CAR and the release conformed to non-Fick diffusion. The shelf life of strawberries was extended to 7 days after treated with this film during storage. By incorporating the merits of natural biopolymers and MOFs, this novel active packaging offers great potential as a substitute for traditional packaging materials.

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a naturally occurring mycotoxin that poses serious threats, such as kidney damage, to human health. Therefore, we developed a DNA walker-based dual-signal electrochemical ratiometric platform for OTA detection, which could overlook the variations in environmental and instrumental factors and DNA load densities. Cobalt metal–organic frameworks (Co-MOFs) and toluidine blue were used as the electrochemical signal tag and internal reference probe, respectively. In the presence of OTA, this developed machine resulted in the DNA labelled-Co-MOFs far away from the electrode. Thus, Co-MOFs signal at −1.18 V decreased, while toluidine blue at −0.28 V increased. This proposed strategy has displayed superior sensitivity (limit of detection = 0.31 fg/mL, linear range = 1–50 ng/mL) and high reproducibility. The sensor was also applied for determining OTA content in red wine samples and the results were comparable to those of commercial enzyme-linked immunoassay kits with satisfactory results.

Fe-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are popular in activating oxidants e.g·H 2 O 2 and persulfate (PS) for degrading recalcitrant organic substances, generally regarded with a simple interfacial efficient iron cycle. This study has revealed that a novel two-steps single-electron transfer mechanism would occur initially to activate the rapid degradation 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) in the MIL-88B(Fe)/H 2 O 2 system (88B/H 2 O 2 system). The degradation of 4-CP was acidic favorable (pH 0 ≤ 6.0) and could be divided into two reaction stages, i.e., initial lag phase (0–10 min) and following rapid decay phase (10–50 min). In the first stage, H 2 O 2 was slowly activated on the surface of 88B to form superoxide radical (O 2 •– ), which would lead to the accumulation of the key intermediate hydroquinone (HQ) through reducing 4-CP. Afterwards, HQ could reductively dissolve iron ions which would lead to the subsequent efficient homogeneous Fenton reaction for the rapid oxidation of 4-CP by hydroxyl radical (•OH) in the following rapid decay phase. It was interesting to note that specific aromatic compounds, which would form reductive benzenediols intermediates by O 2 •– , could be efficiently degraded in the 88B/H 2 O 2 system. The result of this study is expected to provide a new insight for understanding the catalytic oxidation process based on MOFs, and its application if possible.

A ratiometric electrochemical sensor for caffeic acid (CAE) detection was constructed using a glassy carbon electrode modified with poly(methylene blue) and flower-like nickel-based metal organic frameworks (PMB@Ni–TPA/GCE). The electrochemical behavior of CAE was investigated at the PMB@Ni–TPA/GCE, and was found to follow a two-electron, two-proton electrooxidation process. PMB was used as the internal reference probe, and Ni–TPA can enhance the electrochemical signals of both CAE and PMB. As the CAE concentration increases, the oxidation peak current of CAE is enhanced but that of PMB keeps almost unchanged. The oxidation peak current ratio between CAE and PMB recorded by differential pulse voltammetry changes linearly with CAE concentration over the range of 0.25–15.0 μM, with a detection limit of 0.2 μM. The proposed sensor was successfully employed to evaluate the total polyphenolic content as CAE equivalent in chrysanthemum tea, and the results were comparable with those given by the reference Folin–Ciocalteu spectrophotometry.

Nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) is a crucial bladder cancer marker, the accurate detection of which is conductive to improving the effectiveness of tumor prevention and treatment. However, due to low sensitivity, it is impossible for conventional immunoassay to detect the trace of NMP22 at the early stages of tumor progression. It is crucial to develop a simple, sensitive and accurate detection method of NMP22. As a variety of two-dimensional (2D) material, reduced graphene oxide-tetraethylene pentamine (rGO-TEPA) demonstrates excellent conductivity and contains abundant amino groups. As a sort of 3D material, silica-modified Cu-based metalorganic frameworks deposited silver nanoparticles ( [email protected] 2 @AgNPs) composites are characterized by large surface area, excellent biocompatibility and water stability, which allows the immobilization of anti-NMP22 in large amounts via Ag-N bonds. Through a combination of the advantages exhibited by 2D material, 3D material, AgNPs and disposable screen-printed electrode, a disposable and sensitive label-free electrochemical immunosensor has been successfully assembled for NMP22 detection. In addition to exhibiting a wide linear range (0.1 pg∙mL −1 -1000 ng∙mL −1 ) and a low detection limit (33.33 fg∙mL −1 , S/N = 3), the proposed immunosensor also demonstrated satisfactory selectivity, strong reproducibility and high stability. Moreover, the excellent performance in detecting human urine samples makes it applicable in practice.

Highly efficient and stable supported non-noble metal catalysts to realize the real-time evolution of hydrogen for the promising substitution of fossil fuels are urgently desired but are still greatly challenging to achieve. In this work, a highly dispersed ultrafine CoNi nanoalloy has been successfully enclosed within a hierarchically porous carbon which exhibits a unique core–shell metal@carbon structure through an in situ carbonized reduction approach by using bimetallic CoNi-MOF-74 as a self-sacrificed template. Note that the all-around interactions between the nanoalloy and carbon within such a unique hierarchically porous core–shell can effectively stabilize and activate the CoNi nanoalloy, meanwhile facilitating the fast mass transfer of substrate molecules. We found that the Co/Ni ratio of the original precursors of MOF-74 and the pyrolysis temperature can significantly meditate the catalytic performance of the derived composite catalysts. In particular, the synthesized catalyst, 10%-CoNi/HPC-400, showed the best catalytic activity and good stability for hydrogen evolution with a turnover frequency value (TOF) of 27.22 min−1 at 323 K, which is higher than most reported non-noble metal catalysts and even some noble metal catalysts. The outstanding catalytic performance and durability of the composite catalysts were attributed to the synergic effect of the well-dispersed CoNi alloy and the unique hierarchical core–shell structure, which demonstrated the huge potential for AB hydrolysis in hydrogen storage applications.

The sulfonated spindle-like carbon derived from metal-organic framework, MOF- C -SO 3 H, has been employed as a filler for the SPEEK membrane. The obtained MOF- C -SO 3 H@SPEEK membrane shows improved properties as a PEM for DMFCs . In particular, with the presence of 3.0 wt% of MOF- C -SO 3 H, the MOF- C -SO 3 H@SPEEK membrane can exhibit higher proton conductivity and much lower methanol permeability than Nafion 115. The specific porous and sulfonated carbon structure is believed to play an important role in the high performance of the MOF- C -SO 3 H@SPEEK membrane. It helps the good dispersion of MOF- C -SO 3 H in the SPEEK matrix, decreasing the swelling ratio and methanol permeability of the membrane, and promotes the transport of protons through the membrane, improving the proton conductivity of the membrane. More interestingly, when used in the DMFCs , it can give maximum power density of 83.91 mW cm −2 , which is ~50% higher than that of Nafion 115. This, together with its higher stability of the DMFC with the MOF- C -SO 3 H@SPEEK membrane than that with Nafion 115, suggests that the MOF- C -SO 3 H@SPEEK membrane is a promising proton exchange membrane for fuel cells.
