A bimetallic FeCo-NC nanozyme was synthesized via pyrolysis of a FeCo-ZIF precursor and evaluated for its enzyme-like catalytic activity and colorimetric sensing performance. Structural characterizations confirmed the formation of a nitrogen-doped porous carbon framework with uniformly dispersed Fe and Co active sites. The FeCo-NC nanozyme exhibited superior oxidase-like activity compared with monometallic counterparts, which is attributed to the synergistic interaction between Fe and Co sites that facilitates electron transfer. Kinetic analysis revealed that the catalytic reaction follows typical Michaelis-Menten behavior, with a low Michaelis constant toward TMB, indicating high substrate affinity. Based on the efficient oxidation of TMB and the subsequent reduction of oxidized TMB by ascorbic acid (AA), a label-free colorimetric sensing platform was constructed. The proposed system showed a concentration-dependent response toward AA with two linear detection ranges (0.1–5 and 5–50 μM) and exhibited high selectivity against common interfering species. This work demonstrates that MOF-derived bimetallic nanozymes are effective catalysts for colorimetric sensing and provides a feasible strategy for the development of nanozyme-based platforms for biomolecule detection.

Fabricating highly competent and cost-effective catalysts is essential for promoting the sluggish kinetics associated with the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Herein, a new type of Fe, Co decorated porous carbon composite catalyst co-doped with S and N (FeCo–SNC) was prepared by a simple carbonization process. Interestingly, FeCo–SNC inherits not only the pore structure but also the large surface area of the ZIF-67 dodecahedron. Furthermore, the electronic configuration of the two catalytic centers in Fe–N–C and Co–NC was customized. On the basis of synergetic coordination between the two active sites, the fabricated FeCo–SNC showed prior stability for the ORR even after 10 000 cycles of cyclic voltammetry measurement, besides the great limiting current density of 5.99 mA cm−2 and high half potential of 0.856 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode), surpassing the commercially available Pt/C catalyst. Moreover, the primary active site of Fe–N–C was regulated, providing the highest catalytic activity for the ORR. This research offers a new perspective on enhancing carbon-based catalysts for the ORR without relying on precious metals and introduces a strategic method for controlling active centers.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) find wide-ranging applications owing to their adjustable structures, diverse compositions, and large specific surface area. In this work, MOFs materials were grown in situ on carbon cloth, yielding self-supported electrodes V O -(Fe,Co) 3 O 4 @CC rich in oxygen vacancies through a simple high-temperature annealing treatment utilizing NaBH 4 as an etchant. Thus the resulting self-supported electrode V O -(Fe,Co) 3 O 4 @CC exhibited excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, achieving an overpotential of merely 288 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , along with a low Tafel slope of 31.39 mV dec -1 , and demonstrating robust long-term activity and stability. In addition, a liquid zinc-air battery was assembled utilizing the prepared V O -(Fe,Co) 3 O 4 @CC as an air cathode, achieving a high open-circuit voltage of 1.46 V and a high peak power density of 89.06 mW cm −2 , and it maintained excellent cycling stability during cyclic charging and discharging (with a current density of 2 mA cm −2 ) over a 32 h period. Meanwhile, the self-supported electrode V O -(Fe,Co) 3 O 4 @CC served as an air cathode for assembling an all-solid-state flexible zinc-air battery (ZAB), demonstrating a high peak power density (38.21 mW cm −2 ) and exhibiting favorable cycling stability. This experiment offers insights into the potential application of MOF-derived electrocatalysts in water decomposition and zinc-air batteries.

Dual-atom catalysts, which exhibit high activity and atom utilization, show promise for sustainable energy conversion and storage technologies. However, the rational design and synthesis of a dual-atom catalyst with structurally homogeneous and flexible active sites remains challenging. In this work, we developed a strategy for the synthesis of a carbon-based catalyst with diatomic Fe–Co sites in which the Fe and Co atoms are coordinated to N and O atoms, respectively, and linked through bridging N and O atoms (FeCo–N 3 O 3 @C). The Janus FeCo–N 3 O 3 @C quaternary dimer is a stable and efficient bifunctional catalyst in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (half-wave potential E 1/2 = 0.936 V) and oxygen evolution reaction (potential E = 1.528 V at 10 mA cm −2 ). When assembled in a Zn–air battery, it exhibits superior performance over a benchmark Pt/C + RuO 2 air cathode. A series of ex situ and in situ characterizations, combined with theoretical calculations, revealed that the bifunctional performance of the catalyst originates from the strong coupling of the Fe–N 3 and Co–O 3 moieties, which alters the d -orbital energy level of the metal atoms, optimizing the adsorption–desorption of oxygenated intermediates and improving the reaction kinetics of the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions. The in-depth insights gained into the fundamental mechanism of this dual-atom catalyst at the atomic and electronic level will facilitate the rational design of further highly efficient multifunctional catalysts with customized activities for specific reactions.

Nitrogen-doped carbon dots (CDs) were fabricated via a one-pot hydrothermal route using hydroquinone and o-phenylenediamine as dual precursors. The as-prepared CDs were then anchored onto iron-cobalt oxide nanosheets (FeCo-ONSs) to construct a composite nanozyme, denoted as CDs/FeCo-ONSs. Although FeCo-ONSs possess intrinsic peroxidase-like (POD-like) activity, the integration of CDs with FeCo-ONSs resulted in a remarkable enhancement of catalytic performance. Specifically, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), the CDs/FeCo-ONS composite promoted the efficient oxidative transformation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), leading to the formation of a blue-colored oxidized product. Based upon the enhanced POD-like activity of CDs/FeCo-ONSs, a highly sensitive colorimetric sensor was developed for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA). This method exhibited a wide linear detection range of 0.1 to 50 µM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.018 µM. Furthermore, the developed method was successfully applied to the determination of AA in commercial beverages and fresh fruits, verifying its potential feasibility for practical applications in food quality control.

The development of electrode materials that combine high scalability with outstanding electrochemical performance is crucial for advancing lithium-ion battery technologies. Among various anode material systems, bimetallic organic frameworks have attracted extensive attention due to their ability to provide additional active sites and generate significant synergistic enhancement effects through the introduction of two distinct metal centers. However, their practical application in lithium-ion batteries is hindered by limited electron transport and insufficient structural stability during cycling. Therefore, we adopt a photoredox strategy to in situ deposit Ag nanoparticles on the surface of FeCo-MOF and successfully fabricated the Ag@FeCo-MOF composite anode material. The excellent electrochemical performance is primarily attributed to the high specific surface area of the MOF carrier and the synergistic effect of the bimetallic active sites. Meanwhile, the successful loading of Ag nanoparticles has constructed an efficient three-dimensional conductive network, increasing electronic conductivity by 100 times and significantly accelerating electron transport kinetics. Electrochemical tests indicate that the initial discharge specific capacity of Ag@FeCo-MOF is 534.2 mAh g−1 at a current density of 500 mA g−1, with Coulombic efficiency exceeding 98%. After 500 cycles, the discharge capacity remains at 513.9 mAh g−1 without significant decay.

Microwave absorption materials can achieve superior performance through the implementation of effective strategies such as morphology and composition design. In this study, a straightforward hydrothermal approach was employed to synthesize FeCo/Co@C composites with a dandelion-like morphology. Subsequently, the investigation focused on systematically examining the influence of carbon content and pyrolysis temperature on the microstructure, phase composition, and microwave absorption performance. The findings indicate that at a glucose of 3 mmol and pyrolysis temperature of 700 ℃, FCC2 exhibit a significant reflection loss (RL) of –51.13 dB, accomplished through the utilization of an exceptionally slim matching thickness measuring only 1.4 mm, additionally, optimal effectiveness across a bandwidth of 5.0 GHz can be attained at 1.5 mm. The remarkable ability of FCC2 samples to absorb microwaves can be credited to the distinctive structure resembling a dandelion and precise matching of magneto-dielectric elements. Consequently, these FeCo/Co@C composites show great potential as lightweight, high-performance microwave absorbers, offering a simple and efficient strategy for designing broadband absorption materials.

Aquaculture wastewater is contaminated with antibiotics such as oxytetracycline (OTC), which presents a serious threat to the environment and public health. In this study, Fe Co MOF@MIP combining 2D bimetallic metal organic framework (MOF) with molecular imprinting technique was prepared for removing typical antibiotic-OTC from mariculture wastewater. Batch experiments indicated that the maximal capacity of adsorption of Fe Co MOF@MIP to OTC was 36.9836 mg/g at 303 K, higher than that of Fe Co MOF@NIP. The large number of spatial recognition sites in the blotting layer provides specific selectivity, and adsorption mechanism might be associated with the electrostatic adsorption process, hydrogen bonding and complexation among OTC and Fe Co MOF@MIP. The adsorption process fits a quasi-secondary kinetic model with R 2 = 0.9966, suggesting that the rate of adsorption is dominated by a physical adsorption mechanism involving the sharing of electrons among the Fe Co MOF@MIP and OTC. In the presence of interference, the blotting factor of Fe Co MOF@MIP was 11.77, which demonstrated that the as-synthesized materials possess the excellent selectivity. Moreover, the synthesized nanosheets exhibited excellent reusability, with 16.61 mg/g OTC removal achieved using the Fe Co MOF@MIP after reuse on three occasions. These findings highlighted here is the promising role of Cu Co MOF nanosheets in wastewater treatment, particularly for the selective removal of antibiotics.

Herein, Fe0.32Co0.68 binary metal nanoparticles synthesized at room-temperature were loaded onto a novel hierarchical flower-like γ-Al2O3@C composite, which improved the stability and dispersity of the Fe0.32Co0.68 nanoparticles. The freshly prepared Fe0.32Co0.68/γ-Al2O3@C displayed good adsorption of Orange II (100 mg L−1, 973.55 mg g−1). Subsequently, the used Fe0.32Co0.68/γ-Al2O3@C adsorbent (Fe–Co oxide/γ-Al2O3@C) was reused as a peroxymonosulfate (PMS) catalyst. Amazing results were obtained, which demonstrated that Fe–Co oxide/γ-Al2O3@C can highly efficiently decompose Orange II (60 mg L−1, 1 min; 90 mg L−1, 2 min, 120 mg L−1, 7 min and 150 mg L−1, 10 min) as a PMS catalyst. It also exhibited good general degradation of different organic pollutants and excellent reusability (98%, tenth cycle) due to the structural stabilities of γ-Al2O3@C. Further, an experiment was carried out to treat high concentrations of Orange II (200 mg L−1) with the Fe0.32Co0.68/γ-Al2O3@C nanocomposite. After adsorption, PMS was added, and 98% degradation occurred within 5 minutes. The combination of adsorption and PMS advanced oxidation techniques may be one of the effective ways to deal with high-concentration dye wastewater.

This study addresses the challenge of designing simple and environmentally friendly methods for the preparation of effective electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing materials with tailored microstructures and multi-component regulation. N, O doped walnut-like porous carbon composite microspheres loaded with FeCo nanoparticles (WPCM/Fe–Co) are synthesized through high-temperature carbonization combined with soap-free emulsion polymerization and hydrothermal methods, avoiding the use of toxic solvents and complex conditions. The incorporation of magnetic components enhances magnetic loss, complementing dielectric loss to optimize EMW attenuation. The unique walnut-like morphology further improves impedance matching. The proportions of Fe and Co components can be adjusted to regulate the material's reflection loss, thickness, and bandwidth, allowing for fine-tuning of absorption performance. At a low filling ratio (16.7%), the optimal WPCM/Fe–Co composites exhibit a minimum reflection loss ( RL min ) of −48.34 dB (10.33 GHz, 3.0 mm) and an overall effective absorbing bandwidth (EAB) covering the entire C bands, X bands, and Ku bands. This work introduces a novel approach to composition regulation and presents a green synthesis method for magnetic carbon composite absorbers with high-performance EMW absorption at low loading.

Generally, incorporating different metals in a catalyst can provide a synergistic effect for enhancing the catalytic performance. However, the interaction between the two metals and the effect on the catalytic performance seem elusive. In this work, a bimetallic metal–organic framework (MOF) is synthesized, and then, a novel bimetallic catalyst is prepared for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS). The combination of these different metals and a MOF-derived porous carbon supporter offers a unique active surface structure that may lead to improved catalytic performance. Herein, alloy-type structures were observed in FeCo and FeNi bimetallic MOF-derived catalysts, while a solid solution with a spinel structure were observed in FeMn and FeZn bimetallic MOF-derived catalysts. The bimetallic catalysts supported on MOF-derived porous carbon display stable and excellent catalytic performance during 100 h compared with a single-metal Fe catalyst. X-ray diffraction measurement, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and H2 temperature-programed reduction were employed to study the synergistic effect of bimetallic components on surface composition and electronic and reduction properties accordingly. The relationship between catalytic performance and catalyst composition was deeply studied. These research work results will provide a new approach to design novel bimetallic FT catalysts.

A new type of layered multi-space composite material was synthesized by solvothermal method based on the spindle shape of FeCo-MIL-88 sulfide, nickel sulfide and nickel oxide (Fe .92 Co .08 S@NiS/NiO). The morphology and structure of the hybrid were studied by SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS. The lamellar structure provided a large gap for effective electron transfer, and the composite showed significant electrochemical properties. This includes excellent specific capacitance (1868 F·g −1 at 1 A·g −1 ) and significant cycle stability (the specific capacitance remains at 62.5% after 5000 cycles). In addition, when the asymmetric supercapacitor is 251.1 W·kg −1 , the energy density is 38.2 Wh·kg −1 , and the cycle stability is excellent after 5000 cycles, and the capacity retention rate is 85.3%. The results show that Fe .92 Co .08 S@NiS/NiO composite electrode has potential application in high performance supercapacitors. This new material has strong competitive potential in high-performance ultracapacitor electrode materials.
